Simply Divine Discussion - Part 2

May 10, 2016

    1. He looks amazing, like a real person!

    2. Gorgeous work! Is he a Jesse?

    3. She got back to me and got it fixed in absolutely record time. I've never had a artist be so responsive in all my life. :aheartbea I'm super excited to get my Harlequin head now.

    5. So handsome! He's gorgeous

    6. I finally caved and bought a Thomas head this morning. I chose Venetian Luna Sunrise in the end for the color after a long debate between that and Magnolia. I have wanted Thomas for ages and I am so glad I finally took the plunge.

      • x 1
    7. Congrats on taking the plunge! I have mine in Venetian Luna Sunrise, but I blushed him to match the intended body. If you need a clear picture of the head cap (it is unpainted) with some other resin's, just let me know!

      Edit:

    8. Thank you!! And thank you for the photo :D if you have a picture of the headcap that would be wonderful!

    9. @IzabethS thank you! :)
@Girrl thank you! He's Richard, I have two brothers, Jesse and Richard :3nodding:

    10. Thank you very much!

@Rook_Sever did you paint your boy yourself? That is a stunning faceup.

    11. Just had to stop in and say, he is stunning! I LOVE that face up :)

    12. @Rosslyn my partner painted him - we own dolls together. Thank you!

@stinesculpture ohhh thank you so much! I do love your sculpts, and so happy to own them! :love

    13. I just received my Harlequin and. Photos don't do him justice--he's absolutely stunning! My indoor lighting is terrible so I don't have any pics yet, but I have mine on a Loongsoul 68cm body and the fit looks to me to be near perfect. Trying to decide on his character and such, and whether I want to attempt his faceup on my own or send him out... but for right now I'm just enjoying him. And how so far, out of all the clothes I've bought for him, he's settled into 'snooty hobo professor' the best. Go figure.

    14. Harlequin is such a stunning sculpt. I need to get mine a proper body. I've found one that I like, but the cost is prohibitively expensive thanks to terrible conversion rates. :(

    15. OOp! My wallet slipped and I just ordered a Thomas head <3 I've been wanting one for YEARS but never had an actual excuse to get one till now. He will be my character Vivian from the novel I'm working on and he will be glorious! Pretty sure he was the character I had in mind for the sculpt all that time ago too honestly. . .

      • x 2
    16. Congratulations! Thomas is a dream! I wanted one for ages too! I can't wait for mine to arrive :D Hopefully the wait isn't too long.

      • x 1
    17. On that note, does anyone actually know the general wait time for these heads? I'm not in any hurry or anything, just curious. I still know he'll get here before my Dollshe's lol.

      • x 1
    18. Taking the holiday season plus Covid into account...4-5 months perhaps? I waited 3-4 months for my Harlequin head a couple of years back.

      • x 2
    19. Thank you <3 That means I should likely have a good amount of time to get Vivian's wardrobe together. . . . which is good, since I keep buying too much stuff for my new girl just now.

    20. Hello,

happy holidays everybody. I’m joining this thread. I just order a Tatsuo head. Do you know if the head will fit DollsTown 18yr body? Also how long is the waiting time? Thank you so much in advance for your help :)

      • x 2
    21. Welcome! The waiting time I heard is around 3-4 months but could be longer due to covid.

    22. WOW! That’s a long wait. I thought it was going to take 2-3 weeks like it said on their Etsy page.

    23. in the hobby 3-4 months is pretty average and a little on the fast side. And, well, you know, *waves* global pandemic.

      • x 2
    24. I know and I don’t mind the wait. Especially for a beautiful head like Tatsuo. I have waited about 6 months for a bjd in the past. I was just a little bit shocked this time because I based my order on the Etsy shipping estimate. I was thinking may be the head was already in stock that’s why the shipping estimate was so short. Now to kill the waiting time, I can start planing or looking for clothes that will fit the DollsTown 18yr old boy body I will be using. I have never owned a male doll that big. So none of the clothes I have for my 65cm vindolls fit him.

    25. Yeah. I am not sure how they calculate the etsy shipping estimate but I think you're right; it might vary if there's heads in stock or not.

You're gonna love him but HE A BIG BOI. Weighs like 12 lbs. Do you have the body in hand already? A lot of us have that one for our Simply Divine heads so maybe we can help with what fits- Although I'm not much help there, lol, because I sewed stuff for my guy. I do owe him more outfits.

LIGHTBULB MOMENT- I should make him a historical Persian outfit! hrmmm do I have any fabric even suitable??

      • x 2
    26. Yes. I do have the body already and is heavy. I only have one resin boy and he is an iplehouse FID and the rest of my crew is vinyl or ABS plastic. So, I was shock I need it both hand to carry the body. I usually do it with one. The body was meant for a custom head I got a few months ago but I didn’t fit properly. I have owned resin dolls before but the largest was my 69cm loongsoul girl. He is bigger than that with a head on.

    27. You should absolutely do this, and then spam All The Pictures(!!)
Side question: d'you have a recommendation for good resource(s) for historical Persian costuming? This has great written descriptions and provides context and historical background, but no pictures, which is usually the most helpful for pattern drafting (at least for me)

    28. I am spoiled for choices when it comes to historic costume because I am a historical Reenactor; let me see if I can find some of the Persian stuff I have...

https://www.scribd.com/document/4786465/A-Step-Further-from-Fantasy-Middle-Eastern-Garb-in-the-SCA This is one of the best short resources another reenactor put together on Medieval middle eastern clothing styles, and what is Modern or fantasy and what is actually historical, but you need a scribd account I think

Silk Road Conjectures This lady's done a lot of research on the Silk Road and cultures along it.
Persona: 16thc Indian and Persian Here's another researcher's blog.

Persia in particular has left us a wealth of beautiful and detailed paintings, so if you know the basics of rectangular construction* and can look at some online images of actually 1500s Persian paintings you can get a good idea of what the upper class usually shown in those may have been wearing at the time.

      * Pin on SCA - 1502-1722 Safavid Persia this is one example of patterns from a turkish ensemble, but you see the idea. I can't vouch for the total authenticity of this specific one but if you look at "extant Persian 15th century CE clothing" you can often see what analysis has been made of them.

Most of what I have is on women's clothing but I think my Harlequin will be getting something built a bit like this:
Patterns of Time Ottoman Turkish Man Pattern, Medieval-Renaissance-Elizabethan | Turkish men, Ottoman, Turkish clothing

PPPS: I basically mean to find a good actual persian miniature and see if I can duplicate the outfit as historically as possible. Probably Safavid period Persia (Iran)

    29. Does anyone know if Loongsoul's Real Skin resin is close to VL Parchment?
Considering a Tatsuo on an LS 68cm body.

    30. Got my shipping notification today for my Tatsuo head. Finally some happiness. I been struggling with covid for a few weeks, I was sure I was not going to see the head :)

      • x 4
    31. oh yay! I hope you feel better soon!

The fabric has arrived for my Persian outfit reconstruction project. I've decided to duplicate the outfit of the figure on the left in this painting by Aqa Mirak in 1530. The tricky bit will be how tissue thin the silk and faux-silks are, and handling and manipulating them, but at least he's huge so that helps. Fiddly or difficult costumes feel easier in 1/3 scale.

    32. I hope you feel better soon! Wonderful news about Tatsuo! :D

    33. Thank you. I’m feeling much better. I finally got hungry again. Now I’m very hopeful I will recover soon. I’m so excited to get my Tatsuo head. I can’t wait to see it on the DollsTown 18yr body. I still don’t have a name for him :)

    34. So happy! I got my Tatsuo head today. I named him Adachi and he is so beautiful. The artist told me the head was smaller than the other heads. But I think he looks great on the DollsTown 18 year old body. But I don’t mind the head being smaller. I actually prefer it that way. So what do you guys think?

      Here is Haru :)

    35. Wow! He looks gorgeous. I think he fits nicely on the DT18 :D

Which resin color did you order?

      • x 1
    36. The head is in Venetian Luna white resin and the body in pale resin. The color match is almost perfect the body is just a little bit lighter but almost not noticeable:)

here is a picture without the wig. You can see the proportions are good :)

    38. Thank you. I can’t wait to send him to get a face up, but I also can’t part with him just yet. I haven’t been able to stop looking at his gorgeousness:p

    39. My Thomas head has arrived!
The placement of those ears so far backward does mean I'm going to need to make his wig. The one I had for him doesn't fit. I wonder if I'll mod them, or just leave them.

      • x 2
    40. Congrats He is gorgeous!

    41. THanks! now I gotta get him his body, later this month.

    42. [IMG]

Just looking at my Pulse Harlequin and loving him. He is on the Soom Mecha Angel body. He has hooves. :D

    43. He looks amazing! :D

      • x 1
    44. Jareth, thank you so much! :aheartbea Pulse did a incredible job on him. Liz and I have this running joke that "he has no paint". Pulse whispers in paint. The paint is so subtle and so gorgeous. Liz says it is invisible. Harlequin is just a great head.

    45. He is absolutely gorgeous! Those eyes :drool

    46. Congrats on your arrival! Yeah, the ears are really really far back, I noticed that on mine too.

He's stunning! I love how his eye seems to glow!

    47. My Thomas head arrived today <3 He's gorgeous! I'm gonna be moddng the neck hole so I can fit him on a Dollshe Mystic body, so no photos yet. . . but I am thinking he SHOULD work for my sinister purposes. I've seriously wanted that head since I first saw it in 2013 or thereabouts. . . whenever I first saw it. A long time ago lol!

      • x 2
    48. Congratulations! Thomas is gorgeous- I can’t wait to get mine! I am interested to see if he will work on the Mystic body :)

      • x 1
    49. The proportions are great for the Mystic body, the neck hole however is from a time before bodies aside from Iplehouse had big necks I think lol. So, just have to get that widened up and he'll be fabulous.

      • x 1
    50. Thomas seems to be a bit smaller than Harlequin, so I really beg, if anyone has an old soom supergem, spiritdoll grace or other 14-14.5 cm shoulder doll body they can show to us with the Thomas head on it, that'd be awesome.

      • x 1
    51. Well, I like him on that body. :3nodding:

    52. Sadly I don't have any big guy bodies other than the Dollstown 18 and the Dollshe Mystic right now, so I can't really help. Now, once I get his neck hole modded I will definitely show how he looks wigless and shirtless (and probably eyeless and faceless) on the Mystic body. I am gonna look at him on my modded Dollstown 18 now lol. Poor Dr. Madsen doesn't want to take off his shirt for the cause though.

    53. He does look fantastic!

So far the one I am dying to know about is the Ringdoll 68. I know Thomas is too big for the gorgeous DikaDoll 68 which is an older style body I have my IOS Anima on- I tried, but I think I will spend the "spoons" to go unearth my Soom lads from where they are stored out of the sunlight to see if Thomas would fit the Old Soom pre-2012 body, which I did like. I also think he might fit Granado Nuevo, even though that body is too muscular for the character I am trying to shell. Dang boi, being lean AND tall.

      • x 1
    54. Okay so!
Thomas does just barely fit, scale wise, on a Soom Supergem Old type body, which was made for a 9-10 head size originally, so he'd probably fit on the larger two newer ones beautifully.
He has "dolly" slightly large headed proportions with this body. I tried to get the pic as true to size as possible given how seriously my phone lens tries to distort images.

He looks fantastic on the 70cm(?) Granado Nuevo body, and the neck fits almost perfectly.

Lol please ignore my closet curtain.

      • x 3
    55. He looks so good on the Granado body. :)

I’m missing my Adachi (Tatsuo). I spend so little time with him. I send him yesterday to the face up artist. I’m excited to see him with a face up. For now here is my barefaced Haru.
