Just For Fun Show your "old school" BJD

Aug 1, 2014

1. Of course they are, darling!! And someone was just saying that they wanted to see more Juri '06, so Ellie would be welcome . . . and there have been TONS of modded dolls in this thread!

I have some of Mezelline here, if you need them, and there's a thread for Ellie here . . . bring on Mistral and Benedict and all your crew! :aheartbea

LovelyHouse/DollTi!! Love those sculpts -- I've owned two ShinB's over the years, and would still have them both if I'd ever been able to find a LovelyHouse body for Grail V.1, and I had to sell Grail V.2 when we got swamped with medical bills . . . so nice to see some of the originals in happy homes!

I can't remember if I shared them before . . . so here they are, a very yellowed human-eared head on a Soom Gem [not Super Gem] body, and a full DollTi-release human-eared ShinB (I never did manage to find one with the elf ears, to my regret.)

2. Yes!! Zelgadis is a Shin-Ma - he'd been painted a dozen colors of gray when I got him and thus was a perfect candidate to turn teal and become Zel. I had NO idea at the time how rare they were, even at that point.

The Shin-Cho is a new acquisition for me, but obviously an old doll; he'd clearly had his human ears on all that time because the elf ears are pretty much pristine (and weren't staying put well for my pictures). He's yellowed but he's got the most glorious faceup...

I've seen your 2nd girl there before and she's absolutely one of my favorites. I just love the Lovelyhouse/Dollti faces. Never had one of their original bodies but I understand they were very slim, much like the Fantasydoll bodies my guys are on. When I first got Zel he was on a FtM modded body that suited the head well but not necessarily the character, so it's gone on to weirder mods over the years :)

Ooo does Unidoll count as old-school? Because I have a UH-08 who was absolutely my first grail doll. I also have a UH-02 girl who may actually be my favorite girl doll, but she was purchased in 2009 or so when they did their final round of "get 'em before they're gone" sales. ... I still remember the utter shock when they released Ark because he was so different.... and now we have dolls with tongues stuck out and fantasy parts and everything else, and Ark seems so tame in comparison!

3. I'm going to post a few of mine without IDing them, see if you can guess! (no fair Cynthia, you have been around almost as long as dirt, let someone else try these first!! lolol). All of these are sculpts released between 2004 and 2006, maybe one is older?

4. There's a Yui! Wow, still sooo beautiful...

As for the other dolls: I recognize Tony, Michele and of course the regal Bermann. There's also a Hypermaniac, I just never could remember the sculpts' names and a Custom House doll.

5. Okay, you got the Yui, Tony, Michele and Bermann by sculpt name so I'll fill those in.
Still some spots left.

6. Ok this is going to kill me. Come ON braincells! I was just looking at one of those (your #5) the other day and do you think I can remember the name now? "What a draaaag it is getting oollllldddd..."

7. 3's a Musedoll Re-che, 4 looks like a Chowon, and 5's Hypermaniac Omicron, which is the only Hypermaniac sculpt I can actually ID.

Ok, this I don't own this guy anymore, but he was from the first release of this sculpt and was an old cutie

8. I do, I do, but the beginning of the semester sat down on me so hard that I've gotten WAY behind with this thread!

Poor Nini hasn't had many pictures taken (this is a theme with me, yes), but I think this one's kind of cute:

and idrisfynn WOW, a Kanon Yui . . . it is such a thrill to see her! :abow:

9. I can be satisfied knowing my own dolls as this point. There are exponentially so many more sculpts since the way back days, I am nowhere close to knowing all the larger doll sculpts and man, I used to know them all on sight!

DINGDINGDING you got the rest of them!! (though you are also in the old as dirt crowd)
That is my even earlier ReChe, so he was a Kyante ReChe, from before they were Musedoll. He is on the version 2 Iplehouse boy body, which is barely 60cm tall. The Chowon I bought second hand, he still has his default faceup. And yes, Omicron! Who was the tallest boy BJD ever made when he was released at a towering 67cm! He was my first sold-out-before-I-knew-about-him BJDs, had to track him for over a year. SDink (shout out to C) repainted him for me a couple years back and he looks nice with such a modern style faceup. ^__^

Now, I am trying to guess your guy... is he a Tenshi type?

I lucked out, I put up a WTB for Rui/Louis (maybe five years ago) and two days later was contacted with an offer of this sculpt. I'm glad I went for it, I haven't seen a Yui up for sale in a long time. And no sign of a Rui for sale since 2006. (Mine is a boy though, you know how this hobby works ^__< )

I haven't seen a CH Shaman Varim in a looong time! Wonderful!! <33

10. Ha ha, man we are all a bunch of old as dirt doll collectors. Kyante! I knew Musedoll was called something else when they just released heads but couldn't remember what it was.

And yes, he is a tenshi type.

11. Kim, is he a Shiratori? Such a cutie.

12. Kim, your boy is/was SO CUTE! Definitely a sibling to Mimi13, Jun Tachibana, Sch B and Byakuren.

idrisfynn, I recognized Tony and Michele right away. That's about as good as I can do. LOL!

13. "Things are diff-a-rent todayyy, I hear ev'reee collector say, they just don't appreciate that you get tiiiired.... but if you buy more of those, you will GET an o-ver-dose...."

(:dance My dad & I sing that song to each other whenever one of us does Utter Recall Fail for some memory or other. You don't feck with the classics.)

LovelyHouse Shin-Cho I have ALWAYS had a crush on...! That is not a face you get to see every day, for sure.

Also, I had no idea you still had your Zelgadis. My stars, but he's a blast from the past, isn't he? In doll AND in character-- I can't remember the last time I saw ANY Slayers fan art/dolls. :aheartbea What a joy to see him again.

14. So many beautiful dolls in this thread!

I'll share a photo of my old school girl... my precious grail, Galatea: a 2004 Ghost in the Shell II Gynoid

15. :kitty1 Envy!!!! :kitty1 She's beautiful!!

16. curiouscourtships, I adore all your pictures of Galatea -- I think I'm subscribed to every thread she's in. I can't bring myself to post any pictures of my gynoid, Haraway, because they never please me as much as yours do. :aheartbea

oh, and idrisfynn, groveling apologies to your Yui, for mistaking him for a goil! *whapping self*

17. Thanks so much! Even after all the years I've had her and all the other dolls I've acquired, Galatea's still my grail and my favorite. <3
I do wish you would photospam your gynoid, though! They're so blasted rare, I always get ridiculously excited when I see another gynoid owner post their pix. :D

18. I've just envisioned a new career for myself -- portraitist for lovely older dolls whose owners are unsure of their photographic skills! Yes, yes... send them ALL to my house... ;)

(In all seriousness, I wish we weren't so geographically scattered -- I'd dearly love to host an Oldskool Tea Party, so that we could all admire these classic beauties in the flesh! Not that newer people wouldn't be welcome, but I'd love to see an event where the focus was on older dolls, without being brand/artist-exclusive.)

*makes note for Yet One More Thing To Do When I Win The Lottery*

19. That would be so cool! (I've just discovered my hubby's got 20,000+ airmiles...:) ;) )

Alicex

20. Yup, he's as Shiratori. Definitely a super cute sculpt with a lot of potential that you don't see around a lot

21. I've been stalking this thread and haven't commented yet, but this sums up my feelings very well :). I started researching about BJDs in about 2004 before getting my firsts in 2006. Then I had to take a break for a few years because of life and when I came back.... there's soooooooooo many companies and dolls I have never heard of *_* it's more overwhelming than when I started in the hobby and I didn't know if "Hound"s were actually dog-shaped BJDs or not (lol).

So, this thread is very nostalgic and feels great to see so many companies I recognized from long ago but haven't seen in ages :D. So much eye candy here. I'm afraid I can't contribute anything special or super rare. My oldest girls are pretty basic/common (old-as-dirt, pre-headplate 4 sisters and msd maggie). Then I suppose my next oldest treasure is my Unoa Mocha (2006)... just slightly too "new" for this thread .

22. Well thank you! Yes, he's always going to be Zelgadis, and I can't imagine selling him :). I also have Gourry, Amelia, and Lina -- Younger daughter has Xellos, elder daughter has Gaav, Valgaav and -- What'serface-- the golden dragon. Many Slayers fans in the house.

23. How wonderful it's been to go trough this thread. :D There were molds I didn't remember I admired!

Here's my 2005 Bluefairy Tinyfairy Jerome, he came to me right after BF's resin changed from creamy yellowy to really peachy. He also has the face up which changed just before he was purchased. ^^ I loved the outfit the Jerome had in the promotional photos, but I didn't have the finances to get it when I bought the doll. I was so pleased to get it later with my Sweet Day Louis as a gift. =w= For me he is still the sweetest little doll I have, I squee with delight every time I see him. ;w;

24. I'm only 26, but most of my kids are old skool.

Guess who? This guy was made back in '04-05 and was the 2nd one ever made (the girl is fullset DOT Shall from first release as well)[IMG]

These three are 2003, 2004 and 2005 respectively:

25. Bishonen House (Donn) boy?

xaya... Jerome is sublime. :)

26. Bishonen House!! And I see a Volks boy (Lucas/Chris?), a Volks F-08, and a CP/Luts Juri05!

-- A :D

27. Correct to both of you! the boy is an f-28 :0)

Love that Donn jawline :)

28. Before the month is out I do want to get in a pic of my CyberBohemian Shiwoo, Dani. I know he's a little too late for the thread, but he's a classic.

29. Hey, everybody -- I started two all-companies "old dolls" threads for us to continue the fun:

in the Larger Dolls Community Photo Sharing forum: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...he-quot-old-quot-dolls-watering-hole-(Larger)!

in the Mini Dolls Community Photo Sharing forum: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?640707-The-quot-old-quot-dolls-watering-hole-(Mini)!

I don't have any older tinies, so if somebody does start a thread in that Photo Sharing forum, please post here to spread the word--

30. angelynx-prime: He sure is and I still LOVE that wig; it's the best braided wig I've ever seen.

31. Here are a couple of my 'old' guys...from 2003. They've been chums
for a while. ;)

32. Christy, they're gorgeous :aheartbea

And I'm off to sign up to the other threads -- somehow missed the notice that they'd been made!

Ran into another oldskool-Bishonen-House doll tonight (along with his owner, who also had a Steve), which made me think of this thread!

-- A :kitty2

33. Oh cool A., I was soooo tempted to get Steve, all those faces would be too fun for photo shoots! :)

34. If he hadn't already been sold out when I discovered him, I would have snagged one in a heartbeat! Really want a fully-painted one someday . . . in my spacious house with plenty of doll space that I buy with lottery money ;)

(He's definitely on The List, but I have to admit, space is at a premium right now -- at least he's small!)

He looks just as good in person, too! :D

-- A :kitty2

35. Here's my earliest one.
To be fair I know almost nothing about her other than she seems to be a very early Angel Region sculpt on a very early AR Fair female body.
She is probably a bit of a frankendolly, as her head looks like a sort of ivory WS and her body is NS, though it looks like a better match in pictures.
She was a doll I bought as a restoration project that had been badly yellowed, then spray painted brown to try and cover it up:doh
Her body is so heavy and clunky, you can tell it has been cast as a big solid chunk and hollowed out for the elastic to pass through, my best guess at her age is around the 2005-ish.
I call her Effie.....

[IMG][/IMG]

P.S. I'm loving all these gorgeous Choa's!!
and idrisfynn's Hypermaniac Omicron :D

36. Cynthia-- Thanks for making the photo threads!

37. I only have two old dolls, the first is from 2005 and the other maybe 2006/7 (not sure because I'm at least her third owner)

38. I have a few that I found on the secondhand market. These guys might be an easy guess for many of you here, but I feel SO lucky to have found them nontheless!

Noriko is a 2005 Luts/CP Delf Dark Elf Soo on a 2014 FL F60 body.

Prism, the Goddess of color on a 2008 Luts Delf body.

Tielo, looking somewhat Hobbit-ish. He should be an easy guess to many of you on this thread. ;)

And finally, this is the tiny doll that showed me I prefer SDs and larger. I no longer own him, but he was my very first BJD back in 2008, and by then I was his fifth caregiver. This pic is from his boxopening.

Any guesses? :wiggle
