Just For Fun Show your "old school" BJD

Aug 1, 2014

    1. Old-school BJD love!

For those of us with pre-2005 "old school" dolls (or those who admire from afar), here is a chance to celebrate them. This is just for fun, no prizes, and no winners.

How well do you know your old-school BJDs? Try your luck with our guessing game! Posted below are various dolls. Some are full-face photos, some are cropped for extra challenge. How many can you identify? Post your guesses into the thread.

      For extra fun:

Share photos of the old-school BJDs in your collection so others can play "guess that sculpt". Rare long-discontinued doll? Original faceup from 10+ years ago? All-original fullset? We would love to see them!

Your sole clue is that these are all older dolls. Some are iconic, others are obscure. Take your best guess!

    2. Well, then I open the guessing.
I won't be much fun, because 8 of the 9 don't tell me anything, and the one I know, I don't need to guess^^.
      5. Lutls Delf El
I could of course post the answers our little friend G. gave me, thou that would not be guessing, but rahter cheap.

And since I guessed number 5, here is mine. Bought second hand here on the market place, Type 2 head modified to be put on a type one body. My first doll love^^

Sorry don't have any other that fit in here, for you to guess.....

Edit: I asked my sis If I could post her boy, because he could be counted as the old school. All my others aren't fit for that^^

      Have fun guessing

    3. This is fun! I joined here on DoA -06 and when I started this hobby two of these dollies were on my "want to buy" -list! So nostalgic!

      My guesses:
      1. Dream of Doll Bee-A
      2. Customhouse Choa
      3. Serendipity Sharmin
      4. Angelregion Dana
      5. Luts Delf El
      6. Dollmore Dean
      7. Luts Delf Lishe
      8. Volks MSD Nasia...?
      9. This I've seen and I think she's MSD size, other than that I have no idea of her name :XD:

This is one of my old school dolls! I actually just sold her few weeks ago after having her for 7 years, it was time to say goodbye. Guess who she is!

    4. I recognize some of these :

      1. Dream of Doll Sha?
      2. Customhouse Ai Choa
      5. Luts Delf El
      7. Luts Delf Lishe

Here is my old-school girl :

This is her default outfit except for the wig.

    5. Here are my guesses:
      2 - Customhouse Choa
      6 - Dollmore Dean
7 looks like another Luts guy, but I can't place the sculpt, 9 looks like Hypermaniac, but again I don't know the sculpt.

And here's my own challenge of old-school dolls, complete with my own old-school faceup attempts:
On the right is my own Dollmore Dean, but who's the guy on the left?!?! He was my first ever BJD, bought in 2004. :daisy

Edit: Eiko, I think yours is a Customhouse Soye maybe?

    6. Lucius Sikilmituile, yours is driving me crazy -- who is he?

Giggy, is she a Unoa Lusis?

Ophiaca, is he a Happydoll Arthur?

Eiko82, is she a CH smiling Mina? (she was a Unique, iirc)

      My IDs and guesses:

      1) DOD, but I never did know those sculpts -- Sha or Shall, whichever is the girl?
      2) CH Choa
      3) Serendipity Sharmin
      4) This one has me completely stumped! Happydoll?
      5) CP/Luts El
      6) Dollmore Dean
      7) CP/Luts Lishe
      8) Volks Nasya
      9) Hypermaniac Eujquiv, which I've probably spelled wrong

It's so hard to choose just one, because I have a house full of oldschool, but here goes: 2003 Customhouse Unique Sully, in her original company portrait and her everyday look. Yes, she's still rocking her default faceup!

Okay, I can't choose just one, because Etsuko HAS to be in this thread -- she's a 1999 Volks Sara. :aheartbea

And to keep the game going, who knows this guy?

    7. AH, darn it, I know this! He was one of the original Souldoll limited boys, I want to say he was either a one-off, or released in a VERY small number. I wanted him really badly! I just can't remember his name!

    8. Yep, yep, yep . . . AFAIK, there were four of them made . . . come on, you can remember that name . . .

    9. Yes, that's right, Cynthia! :) But I have no idea who your rare guy is.

Lucius Sikilmituile, not sure, but could this be more of Luts/Delf? Hm.

All these pretty old-school faces, I hope lots more will post here! <3

    10. Hmmmm, I think #4 is an Angelregion Cien... :huh?: Or Ren!

Here's an unusual girl for you --
      [IMG]
Hint -- she once belonged to Mercy. ;)

    11. Gosh, most of my collection can fall under this "old school" category.

Most of my guesses have been guessed already, but...

      1. DOC Bee-A
      2. Customhouse Choa
      3. Serendipity Sharmin
      4. Angelregion Dana?
      5. Luts Delf El
      6. Dollmore Dean
      7. Luts Delf Lishe
      I don't know the rest xD;

Here's some of my old schoolers!

Edited because I realized it said pre-2005... and Breakaway is from '05, lol. Well, anyway I'll post my Delf Chiwoo and Sleeping Soo mods instead :). My Chiwoo's head is probably the oldest thing in my collection.

Can anyone guess these two boys? The second isn't too hard, but the first (the blond) boy might be! I never see him anywhere anymore, lol. I think he only had one release.

    12. 09 is Hypermanic Eujquiv :)
I wanted to share my Sharmin and Mina

      Mina (Miss Ima)

      Sharmin (Apollonia)

    13. 1. DoD Bee-A
      2. Custom House Ai Choa
      3. Serendipity Sharmin
      4. ?
      5. CP/Luts El
      6. Dollmore Dean (almost guessed "Adam" for some reason)
      7. CP/Luts Lishe (almost didn't get this, even though I have an Elf Lishe!)
      8. ? (wanted to say Mau--but doesn't look like a Mau)
      9. ?

      -------------

      Oldies but Goodies!

My first BJD arrived in 2004. Elurin (Delf Elf El) purchased through Liria from Cerberus Project, original CP faceup (with some modding). Beauty White. (photo from early 2005)
      [IMG]04-12-elfel-113c449 by aprilllee, on Flickr

And the Elf El Vampire head came with him. (Elureth, photo taken in 2008.)
      [IMG]08-11-Vamp327x449 by aprilllee, on Flickr

Squeezing in... because I purchased her in 2004, but she arrived in Jan. 2005: CP Elf Lishe, Open Eyed head, bw (Lothiriel).

CP Elf Lishe, bw, Dreaming head:
      [IMG]05-01-Lishe-151a449x600 by aprilllee, on Flickr

Here they are in a photo from last year. (Elurin wearing the special DoA DollHeart male green Fer.)
      [IMG]13-03-ElvesinGreen_0334a-df7a by aprilllee, on Flickr

I can't play the "guess this sculpt" game because mine are a bit too recognizable! :D

I have kept ALL my dolls, so I have quite a few oldies! CP Elf Yder and CP Juri '05 came to me the year after. Then a Volks Shirou Tachibana One-Off and a Volks Cyndy 2 in 2006, and on and on from there!

    14. I'm not good at guessing sculpts, but I love this nostalgia thread! So many beautiful dolls! :)

    15. Dollshe April Agaci!! I wondered where she went -- I'm going to ring your doorbell one of these days and ask for a royal audience with her.

And Ophiaca, it is such a pleasure to see an Arthur! Talk about an interesting doll who never found a wide audience . . .

Okay, okay! My mystery fellow is Souldoll Gunun. Remember Souldoll's phrase "limpid resin"? So much more appealing than "resin that will inevitably turn the color of Dijon mustard."

    16. 1. DoD Bee-A
      2. Customhouse Choa
      3. Serendipity Charmin
      4. Angelregion Dana (?)
      5. CP EL
      6. Dollmore Dean
      7. CP Lishe
      8. Volks, but again, don't know which one.
      9. It's a hypermaniac, don't know which one.

      My own Old-School dolls:

Who's able to guess? They're not too hard, except for the MSD in the first photo. Btw, you have to look at the heads alone, because all of my dolls are hybrids.

Lucius Sikilmituile: Is he a Dream of Doll Yu?

beamlette: Is she a Souldoll? If so, don't know what sculpt :)

Oh yes! Of course; that nose!

    17. I could be totally wrong, but is your MSD boy a Tender Zen, Silk?

    18. Nope. He's a very rare boy, made by an artist doll maker who used to only sculpt heads. In this case there were only 30 copies made.

    19. Oh, a hard one indeed. I probably know who the artist is, but... it's been a long time and I can't remember the name! It's right on the tip of my tongue, lol. This is going to bother me all night.

EDIT: Wait, wait... Gomidoll, is that it the artist? I don't know the mold though, lol.

    20. Datsuki: A Kid Delf Somi? She's cute! I like her wig :). I'm a sucker for red heads.

    21. Bingo! The last time anyone else posted a Somi in the gallery was 7 years ago. If there is anyone else with a Somi still, I wish they would post them!

    22. Oh my god...I wanted Somi!! I have a Bomi but by the time I had the money, Somi was long gone. I was gutted and bought an Aru girl instead. Finally sold her after I got my Lolly.

    23. I love this thread. Here's my old girl when she arrived a couple of years ago, she was still sporting her default faceup. I've repainted her, but I left her carved in eyebrows.

    24. Oh my gosh, these were all still around when I first stepped into this hobby! I'm sad now. I always loved Sharmin but had no use for her, and I still don't so no reason to hunt for one second-hand. :( Some dolls are just beautiful things you admire from afar.

    25. I spy CP Luts babies! Here are my crew of "old schoolers"!
      Brena!

    26. I don't own anything that was made before 2005.

      But I'm pretty sure that

      8. Volks Nasia/Nasha
      9. Hypermaniac Eujquiv

And that's all I know, haha.

    27. Well I joined in 2005 so none of mine are before that. I found BJDs in 2004 but never thought I'd be able to own one! 90 something BJDs later...

    28. I only have one pre-2005 doll, a DoD Yen! There are about a million of them around so there's no sense posting a photo of him, but it's great to see all these older dolls! Some of these I used to love and had forgotten about.

    29. I just have one confirmed "old school" bjd, my Dark Elf Soo:
I got her secondhand and she had had at least two owners before she finally came home to me. I am not certain of her true age, but she has a few hints at being an older girl (heavier body, original faceup that seems to match the style of other 2004-2005 DESs).

I am not certain when the Kid Delf "Head No.1003" (aka Ttori Elf) came out, but she might qualify as well? (I have seen an arrival date as far back as March of 05). If I can get confirmation that the sculpt is pre-2005 I will have to come back and add her as well. :)

    30. It was so hard not to peek at everyone else's answers first! Best guesses:
      1. DoD Bee-A
      2. CH Choa
      3. Serendipity Sharmin
      4. AR Dana
      5. Luts CP El
      6. Dollmore Dean!
      7. Luts CP Lishe
      8. ??
      9. CH Petite Gabriel!

And there's no school like an "old School"!

My Volks School A head from 2002 (so old he's from back when there was only a "School" head!), Etienne Gavreau.

      Linda S.

    31. Oh, there are some I'm not going to get right....
1 Dream of Doll Too Be A
      2 Custom House Choa
      3 Sharmin ....?
4 HappyDoll or Angel Region not sure which
      5 CP Delf El
      6 Dollmore Dean
      7 CP Delf Lishe
8 cat girl must be Volks?
      9 Hyper Maniac Eujquiv (sp?)

There are some other dolls I can almost identify, but then the names slip away....

And here's my super obscure guy who is all alone in his database here:

    32. [IMG]

my old school el! He came to me second hand in 2005!!

    33. BINGO! He's a Gomidoll Iru-HS head :).

FunnyLori: Wow, that IS an old girl.
About a year ago I organized a meet at my home and although not many people came, we all had many dolls to show. Since these were all people who came into the hobby at the same time as I did, we had a nice collection of both new BJD's and old-school ones. And when you see those side by side, you can really see the difference. They looked like a completely different type of doll!

It was awesome, but it also made feel strangely 'homesick' for a lack of a better word.

    34. Nope! They do look alike but this girl is from other company. ;)

    35. Ahhhhhhh, N-Doll Miso? (if I'm right, research-fu FTW!)

      Psyche X? (noooooo, I didn't look!)

    36. There's already been a couple of ELs posted in here so I'll skip posting mine. Here are my other two not-obscure old school boys, DoT Homme Ducan (2006) and Volks F-17 (2005).

    37. Ooo... Don't see Dollshe April Agaci around, almost at all... How many did Dollshe make?

    38. *snicker* and not a N-doll Miso either. This girl's a bit smaller!

    39. Whoa, I totally get that! I wish that we had the room to keep all of our older dolls - so many have been reshelled with "modern" sculpts - I miss seeing the big, open faces of El, Shiwoo, Gomi Igon, CH Cyn, K-Doll Kayan...

Yep! You have a good memory! ;)

    40. Whoever he is, he's beautiful!! *swoon* Just the kind of BJD esthetic I like.

Ophiaca, I recognize your mystery boy, because a certain friend of mine here in this thread has several of them! *koff beamlette*

And speaking of beamlette, what year is your super-unique girl from?

TatsuKitty, I love your leopard-faceupped boy! He's gorgeous.

And Eiko, I am SURE your CH girl is one of my early favorites from visiting here at DoA!

      Linda S.

    41. Much, much love for the older dolls so this thread brings me much delight.

I don't believe I've shared him on DoA, so it's about time I introduce you to Dante, lovingly nicknamed Methuselah here. :3

Dante is a Volks Licht, the very first Super Dollfie boy Volks released way back in December 2001! I'm going to have a teenager on my hands come year-end, eeps! :P

Dante is wearing his original full-set outfit, wig, and eyes. Out of respect for Volks history, I don't intend to change his faceup... and his eyes, they're pretty much cemented in, so a blue-eyed cutie he stays!

And since Dollmore Dean was shared in the game and he was the very first BJD I received when I joined the hobby back in 2005, here's a photo of Trent! <3

Trent's sporting his default Dollmore faceup, and that ain't going anywheres either! ;)

I long ago sold my original Dean to somebody who still owns him (Hello, Gany sweetheart!), and it was just this year that I re-bought a Dean out of nostalgia. It felt so good to be reunited with Dean -- like seeing a good friend after a long time apart.

    42. I am completely stumped! Do tell . . .

I've had a crush on X for years -- he's one of the sculpts I always kicked myself for not pouncing on when I had the chance. But iirc he turned up around the same time I was buying my Minawadou Saikis, and the money only stretched so far.

Yaaaaaaaaaay Dante!!! And more yays for Dean Mark II -- sometimes dolls just need to come back into the family.

    43. I know! I'm lucky enough to have a Sharmin and an Alice (purchased way down the line) but they rarely do anything but sit and be fit ;) I could easily do the pound-of-flesh thing for a lot of these old dolls. I love them.

FunnyLori, is she one of the original F-05s? I recognize the carved-in-eyebrows, (or did they do that to all of them back at the beginning?) but the one I had was in several-times-modded condition when I got her and only partially resembles that face. She's beautiful!!

    44. I have quite a few of oldies. I don't know the years on them, so I don't know how old, but I know they are older.

      Kiley is a Serendipity Cumi.
She has her default face-up still, and she is wearing the fullset for another Serendipity tiny, although I do have hers I just don't like hers as much.

Nadyne is a Notdoll tanned Lucy.
She still has her default face-up but I don't have the rest of her stuff.

Payge is a CP Shiwoo SS Elf Head on a newer ImplDoll Female Model Body.
She had her eyes opened a little more and her nose has been reduced.

And last is the newest addition to my doll family, Zsófia. She is an Uni-Doll Dahlia with a custom face-up.

    45. Ha! I have a "Methuselah" too! He likes to be called Matt. ;)

He's from 2005 or earlier. I got him second or third hand.

[IMG]Methuselah (Matt) - Iple House Soo Ri by aernath, on Flickr

I started looking at the dolls in 2005, but didn't step in and buy my first until 2006, and back then you didn't care when it was made, just that it was made and that you were able to get it.

I have an old Dollmore Aiden boy on the old body with the old style headcap that's held on with his head s-hook. I think he might be from '05 or earlier.
[IMG]New shirts by aernath, on Flickr

And an old Blue Fairy Kyle that I got in '07 that was at least a couple years old when I got him second hand, but no way to know when he was made.
[IMG]Lysle - Blue Fairy Kyle by aernath, on Flickr

    46. My first doll is from July 2004:

He's not really obscure, though XD He's a dream of doll Yen.

I also have a 1st version Shiro Tachibana, although he's only been with me a few years now. He came to me full set with his default faceup, but it was already coming off in places so he had to be repainted:

Aaaand now. One for you all to guess ;) I am the second and fourth owner of this head. Unfortunately I haven't got him painted up yet, but that'll add to the challenge, yes?

Looks like a Dream of Doll Si to me.

    47. Kitazawa -- Eee, a Yen! I don't mind at all that he's not "really obscure"! I enjoy seeing them, and your guy is a cutie. I have a Tender Yen, but would love to someday have a doe-eyed Yen to join the DoD group here. I have a soft spot for the original Dream of Doll models (the "guardians", Yen, Zen, Too & Bee-A, etc.) -- I remember when they just had the mini dolls before the release of their Dream of Teen line. Memories!

As for your guessing game, I would wager Choa/Chowon?

    48. There's someone with several of these boys? How sweet! :) Please, beamlette, do show them here, one sees them so seldom!

Kitazawa, the eyes loke like Customhouse, but I couldn't name the sculpt.

    49. It is one of those two, yes ;)

    50. My two pre-2005 lovelies.

My beloved little Dasha, a Dream of Doll Tender Bee-A.

Nola, my mysterious unknown aged Volks old f-08. She was certainly made pre-2005, as she is lacking a headplate.

    51. I see those cute Chowon lips! :D

    52. I'd recognize that Sharmin a mile away... Rowan, my first BJD, has had a long-distance Sharmin girlfriend for 9 years. ^^ But Rowan (SDC Arashi) came out in summer *of* 2005 so he's not quite old enough for this game. I started collecting in '05, and I have a ton more dolls from exactly '05, but they'll wait till next anniversary's thread. :3

From 2003, here is Sora, a Volks SD13 Shiro Tachibana v.1. I am at least his third owner, and he has had at least as many faceups... this guy has been around the block a few times even before he got here, and has had many adventures in his past ten years of life. In Velveteen Rabbit terms, he's practically Real. He's one of my touchstones. :aheartbea

And from 2004, we have SD13 Tsukasa Konoe...

Also from 2004, we have both SD13 Isao v.2 and SD13 Isao v.1...

And... I'm only mostly-sure that AngelRegion's Present Ren "Smile" edition came out pre-2005. It might have been in 2005. He was sold out when I first discovered him, but he was one of the first fullsets I went gaga for (he was a dainty little priest! :aangel:) (so of course mine is a deathrocker xD). Anybody remember his release year?

Oh, I think I'm friends with that Dean, aren't I?... If it's a certain Dean named Ganymede who lives in Berkeley and sometimes wears little horns on his head? :D I am so terribly fond of him, and it's always a pleasure to run into him at meetups year after year after year.

And wow, a Licht, I've never seen one. Far out.

    53. Wow, I recognized most of those! Someone on instagram mentioned Rasendou the other day and it got me thinking about old companies and molds! Here are a few of mine to add, I'll try to not spam too much with oldies
:(That F8 is gorgeous, I never could get mine to look nice.)

My first BJD, a Nono from I think 2001? or so, before we started the yahoogroup and got kicked off the DollfieDreams group for spamming with those giant ugly dolls, LOL. She's had the same wig since day one!

There are still a few of these kicking around ; D

    54. Yep, that's the very Dean I was referring to! <3 That warms my heart that he is receiving love to this day. He's so special, and it tickles me he's still a green-eyed brunette as he was when he lived with me.

Dante is honored to be the first Licht to make your acquaintance. ;)

    55. Correct! She is a Customhouse Ai Soye, her default outfit was a Domuya exclusive. Only 10 of them were made.

    56. Yesssss! there were some close guesses, too. Si came to us at least second hand, I don't know how many owners he had before, nor when he was made, but my research bought up that the mold was around at least in 2005, if not before, so I posted him here^^ If I remember correctly he has a custom face up from DOD, from one of their other dolls. When he arrived home I made his default outfit for him, and a white fur wig. It's not the same as the company, but I tried to make it as similar as possible^^

Indeed, this old dolls look so different from the newer BJDs. But they compliment eachother nicely, well, at least the boys I have at home (most of them molds from 2009)^^.
      I't s beautyful thread.

    57. Lucius Sikilmituile, I love that you made your Si his default outfit! I remember seeing him on the DoD website waaaay back when I was trying to choose my first BJD. A DoD wasn't my first, but I did get one as my third BJD.

I've already made my guesses, but I found two more "old school" sculpts in my resin family in the same photo! Adding to the DoD and Volks love...

They are the only MSD-size BJDs in my SD-sized world! Both are from '04.

I also have a Volks Lucas, but he's a newer pure skin version (Black Cat), so borderline on whether he counts. I also have a Dollmore Calvin MSD, but he's too "new" by one month (introduced January 2005).

    59. Oh, what a beautiful Choa!! And a Lune, oh, my . . . he makes me wish I had snapped up more of the early Souldolls when I had the chance. I so love seeing the original Shiwoo faceup, too -- what wicked eyebrows he has.

    60. Yup! I so regretted when I sold him to a friend, so I'm glad I was able to get him back ;o; Even though it was without his body.
