Just For Fun Show your "old school" BJD

Aug 1, 2014

    1. *waving hand in the air* Rorek, Avery is a Souldoll, and I think he's a Lune --

Rowen is a handsome Volks Lucas or F-28/F-16, but I don't think I recognize the fellow with him.

The next-to-last boy is a CH Little Junior Jupiter, I think, though I have some trouble telling Jupiter and Mars apart :sweat

And your final cutie has a CH Petite Ai head, but I've never been any good at recognizing the individual sculpts. Gabriel? Hanael?

Okay, Calabri, now I feel REALLY, REALLY old . . .

    2. You have been amazing me with your guessing skills, and I'm delighted that you continue to be able to tell so well.

Avery IS a Lune, WITH the original Souldoll ear piercings and factory faceup no less.

Rowan is an F-28/F-16. Robbie is a Volks doll too, one that you can only get at Dolpas or Events.

Elli is a Mars (RollingPumpkin faceup, Mars for Valentine first version).

The last one is the Uriel head, which was on a Little Junior body, called Uranus. :3

    3. School C~ :aheartbea

One of my superpowers is that I can recognize a School C at a thousand yards with one eye closed. XD

    4. Still hoping someone can guess Toshi -- the blonde holding my other old-school guy :). I just recently refinished restoring him with the help of a "junk" body that I bought here; although being a really old body from the same company made it perfect :) I'll grab a current shot of him later on.

Oh and the faceless head in the same shot recently acquired a brother from the same company. I'm blown away by how much I love these guys. ;)

And I think I'm going to send my ninjas out to spirit Bear away in the night. That is the most wonderfully appealing face ever!

(This post brought to you by the letter P. Procrastination R us).

    5. His eye shape has me completely mystified -- I have NO idea! Looking forward to the answer, though . . .

    6. Oh wow! I remember this guy from when I first started in the hobby! I wasn't familiar enough with any of them to know lots of the sculpts but I definitely remember seeing him early on. And being, like everyone else, VERY impressed :)

    7. Oh yes, Paris is SO smug -- especially when I am changing his clothes! He looks like he is sure I am enjoying it.

linnyp, I would LOVE to see some of your classic Volks girls!

Speaking of classics, Leadora, I feel like Lishe has never waned in popularity. And I think we have ALL taken photos of our dolls (especially our early ones!) that we have regretted!

Baakay, I remember seeing your Rurouni Kenshin very early on! Your Toshi looks very DollZone-ish, like a younger Wing.

Rorek, I would recognize your Avery in a heartbeat! And is your Ro a Tender Too? Is Shen a Volks Enn?

      Linda S.
      galatia9

    8. aikoe - Yep! Robbie is a School C. Great eye. ;) I'd love to have a few more School C dolls. X3

Baakay - It's really funny because I purchased Bear for his sculpt (and the special body it was on) but once I got him in hand I really liked the faceup much more than I expected. He's got a ton of personality.

galatia9 - Yes Lune is so distinctive, and especially as you have your own beautiful Souldoll Classic boys. <3 Ro is actually a Tender Yen, and yes, Shen is an Enn. :)

    9. oh my god i'm ancient

YES yes yes I'd love to continue this conversation!! I meant to get more pics of my old kids (i have MORE old kids) this weekend and just didn't get to it. but yes it has been fun, and has brought back some really nice memories. I'd love to see it continue!!

I meant to take all new pics for this thread, but I have a little time at work, I'm goofing off (shh!) :eusa_naugso I wanted to share another old girl, Fairfax Redux. She has a nice story... I recently encountered a real jerk in this hobby, and was feeling really upset and hurt by it. But looking back through some of my oldest dolls, I am reminded of some rather staggering generosity that has come my way, which made me feel better about The Jerk. I'm not going to let one rotten apple spoil my bushel!! OK So... Fairfax Redux... this is one of my favorite pics of her. Bikini by me. Faceup by Gen (yamamuratatsuya, don't know if SHE is still around or not, she was great!)

      [IMG]sd-bikini2 by tubbysnuggles, on Flickr

      Fairfax's Story
I had gotten a BW juri when she was first issued in 2005 as a luts event. So her head, in a way, was free. I really liked her, but wasn't completely over the moon about her... so I sold her to Rachel (Evenstar) who re-did her up in her usual glorious Rachel fashion, and put her on ebay. Some time passed, and I started missing her, but decided NS was a better way to go, since my OTHER girls were NS. By that time, Juri 2005 heads were going for a VERY pretty penny, and I didn't have much hope of getting one, as I really didn't want to overpay. Nice Gesture #1: Mia, my friend, knew I was looking for one and spotted a BIN auction for a very good price on ebay. I was able to snatch her head up. VERY Nice Gesture #2: By then, another good friend who I'm not sure I should name or not, was getting out of the hobby and GAVE me her former Lishe's body. She described it as being in really shoddy shape (which it WAS NOT). I sent her some $50 for shipping and got an evenstar blushed and tattooed body. So, in a way, I look at Fairfax Redux as being sort of a freebie doll.

Not everybody in the bjd hobby is a jerk! Far from it! Play it forward! WOOT

    10. I'm so surprised at how many people told me that in recent weeks. I really am! He's obviously pretty special to me. Thank you!

...And as to Toshi: Close enough! He's definitely a Dollzone - I bought his head in 2006 (from Catdancer, if I remember correctly) -- my very first piece of resin ever (his body came along later). He's a Dollzone Shuang, one of the first set of minis they released after "the incident": [IMG]

Those two are random images from "the Google" but the lower one is definitely what Toshi looked like originally. He's since had a great deal of his Neanderthal ridges sanded down but he still has that weird and quirky face :)

How about "poor Yorick" whose head he is holding? :) I never did have a matching body for him but here is one after I got done modding him: [IMG]

    11. I need to get around to taking more pictures of her then.
They did! I see them around every now and then. I'm still impressed by Cumi's body! It is pretty advanced even now.
I still need to get around to finding a good face-up artist to fix her face-up. Most of the eyebrow and eyelashes on one side have wiped off over the years.

I just got her, and I have been very impressed. She definitely went to the top of my favorites list right away.
She's got such a beautifully sculpted face. I'm for sure going to be watching out for them on the market from now on.
She's even got a touch of the Uni-Green, but I still like her. Her age adds to her charm.

Super cute! I had Candy for a while, but I ended up not really bonding with her. I loved the Cumi so much she just kept getting outshone.
I eventually found her a good home.

      What incident? o:
      You have piqued my interest.

    12. Probably referring to the fact that Dollzone used to recast dolls and sell them as their own. I think it was only one or two dolls, and it was a long time ago, but I still would never buy from them to this day.

Rorek... I think we need to start a School C rehab group. XD

Does anybody have CH Sram still? He was the first doll I ever wanted.

    13. I posted my friend's Sram on page 7 (she doesn't like her own photos of him lol), but here's another one of him (stealing one of my doll's wigs):

    14. Dollzone copied a Delf mini (I think it was) back when they first started up as a company, in 2005. They got soundly slammed for it, pulled the dolls, apologized up one end and down the other, and have since had nearly ten years of stellar original work. The only reason I even brought it up was to place him in his historical context.

I wouldn't call Toshi "stellar" but lots of companies have so-so sculpts when they start sculpting :)

    15. Sram is such a cutie, just the right amount of smile! :D
The only good thing about not finding BJDs before 2009...not spending all my money on CH & Delf dolls in the early days! X0
The more you guys post, the more dolls I discover I wish were still available. <3

    16. Aw gosh, look at his chubby little cheeks! He wouldn't fit in with my crew, but I still have a soft spot for that face.

    17. Oooh. Hearing that, I might have heard that before, sounds familiar.

Yeah, but support is what helps them grow.
As we've seen some companies in this thread already that didn't get that support and failed to flourish.
So even if he isn't stellar, he's a big part of dollie history.;)

    18. It looks like, of the dolls I posted, only two have not been guessed, so here those two are again, from a different angle to maybe help a bit. :)

    19. Thanks! that's kind of why I posted him. He's weird but he's wonderful - to say nothing of being one of the oldest sculpts I have, aside from the very early DD head that I recently acquired. I should take a shot of her, because I ADORE the head and know absolutely zero about the sculpt itself, but I'll bet someone here would :).

Rorek - your two are making me crazy(er). It's just right there on the tip of my brain but I can't...quite...

    20. i know the one on the right is a volks tenshi tsubaki. i have one! :) the one on the left is a delf boy isnt it? bory? i think bory is more pouty.

    21. THAT's why the tenshi looked famiiliar! I knew I'd seen one somewhere else recently ;)
And I'll bet you're right about the Bory. He's got such an appealing faceup, this one. What a sweetheart!

    22. The one on the left is a Hewitt, whom I've always thought of as the grumpy twin of Tsubaki. :)

My Hewitt no longer has his original face-up because it was wearing off, so I had him repainted by Sairin. People in this thread might remember who she is! :)

    23. Oh wow! Well we were wrong as heck. :) St. James, yours is adorable :)

    24. Sticking Lewis in amongst the oldiegoldie El's here - he just scrapes by the pre-2005 technically. He was ordered late 2004, but arrived Jan 2005. I still remember the original El sale photos on the site and how they stole my heart away :' ( I get so nostalgic for the old days sometimes haha.

    25. Lewis!!!!! #^________^#
      ;3;

    26. Schtiel, Lewis has a beautiful faceup!! Yep, back then it was a lot easier to make choices, wasn't it??

Rorek, is that Manabu on the right? <3

      Linda S.
      galatia9

    27. Anyone want to take a shot at identifying the girl I used in these "smoke and mirrors" images? Same doll, and she steps out of the bjd history books for sure.

HOO-boY. Having either brain or computer issues [or both]. Images didn't show up, and I can't find how to delete this comment. I've been out of circulation almost since last year's anniversary celebrations after 2 surgeries that kicked my butt and then my Mom "got" {?} advanced lung cancer. Anyway. Loving these posts! I fell in love with bjd in 2011 but I've collected many of the older dolls as well as newer ones.

If I should delete this for rambling just tell me how?

    28. Volks Hewitt and Volks Tsubaki!

      EDIT:
Oh, dang, a little late there ^^;. I love Hewitt though, he's still on my WTB list.

Don't we all :)? When I see old stock photo's I'm getting all weepy.

    29. Ooo!! Please post! I love the looks of some of the old school DDs!

    30. Lewiiiiiiiiis~ I remember you~

    31. I have a 2005 old-school doll^^ and I could recognize all the dolls except that I don't remember their names:sweat but I used to seen them a lot...the ones I remember:

      1. Dream of Doll Bee-A
      3. Serendipity Sharmin
      5. CP El
      6. Dollmore Dean
      7. CP Lishe

And this is my cutie pie, he is from 2005 and the joy of my life.

      with his original face up

    32. Here's one of my older dollies, her 'sister' has been in this thread once but here's the unmodified version :3
      [IMG]

    33. Kittywolf13 - Yes, Ichigo is the Tsubaki. I love their sweet little faces. :) Delf Bory does have a similar look to this sculpt, but he's not a Bory.

      St. James
      - You are absolutely right! Bear is a Hewitt with a non-default faceup. I also love the comparison of him being the grumpy twin to Tsubaki. ;) Your Hewitt is lovely! I'd like another Hewitt myself. :D

      Schtiel
      - I love your beautiful old school El. <3 I'd love to get my hands on an unmodded type 1 El someday.

galatia9 - Neither of these two is a Manabu but I do have one. Mine is on a girl body, and a bit later than 2005 release date, but here she is for comparison:

Silk - Right in one! Great guess, full credit for guessing since you didn't see the other correct guesses first. ;)

yumi~ - DOD (DOC) Zen! Right? Such a cutie!

      Uninu
      - Is she a Unoa Sist? I think I remember Sist being the close-mouthed girl, and Lusis being the open mouthed one. She's lovely!

    34. Oh, doesn't Manabu make a cute girl! :aheartbea

      Uninu, is that Unoss?

yumi~, I don't know who your boy is, but he's adorable, and it's wonderful that he is the joy of your life. My first BJD boy is like that for me, too.

      Linda S.
      galatia9

    35. Yup, she's an unmodified Unoss! ^^

    36. I got the Chowon I posted earlier as "guess this head" painted last night. Thought I'd share him again with a fresh face:

(That is a volks oldskin body. Somehow that blue wig magically makes my camera unable to pick up the yellow. Guess it goes into panic trying to balance the blue against it XD)

    37. She's gorgeous!! Is she the Unoss that Evenstar painted?

(And, yes -- I remember Sairin!! Is she still around? I have a Unoa Bully faceplate painted by her, that I got secondhand, and I love her!)

Here's Paisley (Unoa), with a shot from this week of Grigori (Woosoo) as a chaser ^____^

And, WOW -- gorgeous Chowon!!! :aheartbea

      -- A :kitty2

    38. Thank you Ashbet! She was painted by Jesmoth according to my wishes, but now that you mention it she does kinda look like the one Evenstar painted! :D

    39. Beautiful! Unoss was such a different look back in the day.

      Beautiful!

      :aheartbea Woosoo :aheartbea

Dream of Doll Zen? Dream of Doll someone... well, whoever he is, definitely a cutie. Dream of Child sculpts were ass so precious (coming from the person who worships her T.Too :XD: )

    40. I feel so emotional looking at all these beautiful photos of everyone's early dolls. It's wonderful we still have them and treasure them.

Some early dolls in my CH "orphanage" !

    41. Oh my god, all that CH spam is to die for.

    42. It's so nice to look at all of these old beloved faces - especially the CH.

    43. Beautiful CH family! :aheartbea

    44. I think she was made 2006, i recently re-bought this girl as i sold my original one, Luts Minifee Scent of Flower Shushu Elf, i was thrilled as she came with all her original paperwork, box and even soap flower petals!

    45. pianissimo, it doesn't get any better than that!! Thank you for sharing your beautiful early CH family.

      Linda S.
      galatia9

    46. Ah, OLD dolls! Hurray, I've tons of ancient boys and girls. XD Makes me realize how much the doll hobby and tastes have changed.

And here's a fun doll for you to guess! Can you identify this old boy (without peaking)

    47. What aikoe said! That's amazing.

AerynAerie!!! I am Going to HAVE HEART FAILURE... an ORIGINAL Red!!! He is my very very favorite sculpt ever. But mine are from 2006 ... And your guy is so beautiful! O_O

Wow, that was worth the price of admission all by itself.

    48. Wow, this has been a blast from the past, for sure!!

Here's my attempt at the list:
      1. DOD Bee-A
      2. Lovelyhouse Choa
      3. Serendipity Sharmin
      4 Angelregion Cien
      5. CP El
      6. Dollmore Dean
      7. CP Lishe
      8. Volks MSD Nasya
      9. Hypermania Eujquiv

My only remaining bjd, though I have a WTB out for an old Soulkid Tiffie...

      My Notdoll Aletheia vampire.

    49. The CH babies have my heart beating faster and my eyes tearing up! Thank you so much for posting these, which are, to me, the holiest of grails!
Here are my oldies, in their cringe-worthy first faceups. I still have them all, unchanged (unfortunately for them)!

I brought Fuji to the first US Volks tea party and she got her picture published in a doll magazine!

This is my first bjd ever, Lotus. I'll let you guess who he is...!

And this is Lily. As if she wasn't obscure enough already, my very first faceup has rendered her unrecognizable. I bow to the master who guesses this one!

    50. ghostdollie - Is your Lily an Angel Region Diana? I'm so sorry if I'm totally wrong but my sister used to have one ages ago and she looked kind of familiar. I love Fuji's outfit and hair by the way!

    51. There have been some more great old dolls since the last time I came in this thread! All the old CustomHouse spam really takes me back. When I first got introduced to the hobby in early 2005, I spent a lot of time looking at all the available companies' websites, and well remember staring at all the Uniques they used to have! :) (Of course, I also remember when Bermann was still available on the Tensiya website, and could've saved myself a lot of heartache in the later releases if I'd bought him then! But he was SO EXPENSIVE to me back then. XD)

I know, I know! :D But it's probably cheating for me to say, since I know him in "person" and all. ;)

    52. Good gravy, my jaw just dropped! I do believe that striking fellow is a Happy Doll Ein. :aheartbea

And count me among the star-eyed folk from looking at pianissimo's classic CH beauties. :love

    53. Wow, it's lovely seeing all of the old sculpts. It makes me seriously nostalgic. Is it bad that every time I see a Souldoll Paris or a Tender Yen, I have to squelch the urge to go see if there are any in the marketplace?

Almost all of my dolls are pretty old sculpts... :sweat

      Here are a few favorites:

Really modified Volks Link from the original Standard Fair release in 2004.

Angel Region Glow-in-the-Dark (does not actually glow ;)) from 2005.

      Kill_u 2nd from 2005ish.

    54. I consider a lot of my dolls oldschool but a lot of them are just a tiny bit too new for this thread. My first doll, an Elfdoll Wu, was one of the first Wu's on the forum to arrive. He came home in March 2006. I think he may have been ordered in the tail end of 2005 , but his birth certificate says he was made in Febuary 2006. So too new. My Yukinojo is also a bit too new, having come out at the very end of 2005, and besides, some one has already posted one. My F-05 was cast in 2007, but the sculpt it's self is oldie. My Kohya is the DP20 edition, but he was first released in 2004. Does anyone know if there are any differences between the 2004 and the 2008 version of Tohya/Kohya, besides the faceup? Here he is:

[IMG]New makeup (Volks Kohya) by cosmosuchu, on Flickr

My Bermann is one of the original 77, but I don't have photos of him. He's away being painted. This will be something like his 5th faceup. I know I'll find the right look for him eventually.

I recently purchase 3 'old school' dolls at once from the marketplace. Very indulgent of me, I've never ordered so may dolls so close together, but they all came up at the same time. 2 of them, Latidoll Aida and LAtidoll Adel, are bit too new, having been released in 2006, but the other fits in here. Can you guess who he is? (this is his original promo photo, not one of my a actual doll. He needs to be repainted before he's ready to post):

A couple of my floaters are old enough to put here as well, but I tend not to see them as part of my collection until they have bodies.

I think being in this hobby so long has messed my sense of time scale up a bit... I still see sard an co. as those 'new' soom doll!

    55. That's one of the Dollti sculpts, was it called Wooyan? I just remember them looking like Cloud Strife and wanting one.

    56. DollTi Wooyan? But didn't he come out in 2006? Still, always nice to see a DollTi, they definitely belong to the old schoolers. :aheartbea

    57. Thought I'd try again to post my girl from the history of modern Asian bjd.

hmmm... my url from deviantArt still won't show up? Anyway, great fun looking over these lovelies being shared here.

    58. It's so good to see so many lovelies! ^3^ I will always regret not getting a CH Jun and Choa.

      Anyway, here are mine!

My very first BJD, acquired in part in the first week that I joined DoA!
After many different eyes and wigs, and FINALLY acquiring his own body, he has settled on a look and a name. May I present Yukimura!

      My dearest boy, Christian!

And my girls, Laurel and Allister!
Laurel is a blonde with blue-green eyes now, but my camera died before I could get a more recent picture. DX

There are quite a few 2005 babies in my collection, but that's later than I'm willing to go. ^o^

    59. armeleia, thanks for sharing your beautiful Link!! I love Link's profile, his nose and his square jaw. I have one from 2004 also.

Here's Trevor, my resin family therapist. He's a busy guy. I originally bought his head as a backup for my 2005 Link when Volks discontinued the sculpt, but he became his own man instead. I'm very happy to have him.

DaughterofEden, I hope you can get your pictures to show up! Now I'm curious.
