    3. Yay! I love seeing people's pets!

My sister and I have been off at college, so my mother told us that she would get kittens (after our two white brothers, Lily and Cocoa, died of old age.--We're terrible with pet names: Cocoa was all white and odd-eyed, and Lily was a boy) to bribe us to come home more often. After we got new kittens, my sister and I discovered that they are really surrogate children for my parents.

Here are my sister and my replacements: Sherlock and Watson

Sherlock (larger, bottom) and Watson (smaller, top) are brother and sister. They match our floor perfectly. Sherlock is very outgoing, and rather brazen, but kind of a wimp in the face of danger (he really embarrassed himself at the vet). Watson is braver and more opinionated, but very shy and somewhat wary of people. She's come a long way--she used to hiss and kind of growl deep in her throat when anyone came near (thankfully, she was so little when we got her that it was funny rather than threatening), but now she will sit at your feet and talk with you: she understands the pauses and tone of human speech.

Watson is my avatar here at Den of Angels.

Here is a video of when they were little. Sherlock is playing with my sister, and Watson hasn't quite grown into her ears in the back inside the tent.

Cat owners here probably know, but all cats are strange in very unique ways. I've had a cat (Cocoa) who would fetch. Lily allowed me to dress him up in American girl doll clothes and push him around in a kid's grocery cart. Watson sleeps like she's boneless, with her shoulderblades and spine pressed so closely to the floor she looks like she's been run over. Sherlock frequently gets into trouble. He was lost one morning before my dad went to work, and my dad found him in the sock drawer--luckily, he hadn't closed Sherlock in for the day.

They both have a habit of forceably cleaning one another: they get in fights when the other won't settle down for a grooming, and hold each other down until the grooming is complete.

    7. I have eight feather beans, that are currently being babysat by a member of my family. Meanwhile my hubby and I have our house up for sale till we can find somewhere closer to my family.
(Only have photos of my seven parakeet/ budgies.) Don't have pictures of all eight of them yet, because, Carmen (Canary), came shortly before being babysat.

Jay (Sky Blue Boy) and Mabel (Pastel Green Girl) were our first two. Behind them is the log where their eggs were laid.

Then we adopted Sheldon (he's dark grey/ black and thinks he's batman)

Then we adopted Star (she's special and albino :whee: )

Shortly after that, Jay and Mabel had three babies! Left to right: Archie (periwinkle Girl), Kevin (sky blue Girl), and Fred (pastel rainbow Boy). All of them have matured quickly since hatching in February.
This photo was after their feathers fully grew out. Their colors have developed since then.

Carmen (our yellow canary girl), was rescued/ adopted shortly after, and there are no photos of her just yet due to da birbs currently being cared for away from home.
All of our birdies are such great fliers! When they swoop past it sounds like a helicopter! My hubby built special rope shelves for the babies to fly to in our living room. Now that the house is up for sale we had to repurpose them as decorative shelves. Hope we move to a better place soon, because I miss my cherubs so much! So quiet without them. :sorry

    8. I have a three year old female cockatiel that I rescued called Silver. She's terrifed of new people and doesn't like coming out of her cage for longer then a few minutes for cuddles. When she's in a good mood she stays out longer and likes to sit in weird spots.

I also have a three year old rescue cat called Nugget (although she also answers to catfink). Like silver she's terrifed of new people and has separation anxiety. She also has a few problems around eating to quickly due to not being fed before I got her.

I also have a chicken who has neurological problems due to getting severe heat exhaustion as a two day old chick and nearly dying. I don't have a photo of her sadly as she thinks the phone is out to kill her and attacks it LOL

    11. Jabberwocky92 your cockatiel is beautiful. I have a real soft spot for 'tiels, my dad had them when I was a kid. Our female was a rescue who was very nervy also.

This is the newest member to my furry family. Olive is an elderly rescue hamster. She has a number of health issues, mammary lumps, over grooming, sores that come up occasionally on her skin, blindness, and at some point she had a very mild stroke. Along with being a non handling hamster. She hates having humans touch her. I had to have her, she's not exactly a fun pet to have, but I feel so sorry that she's lived a miserable life first being terrified and manhandled by children, then being ignored and a tiny prison of a cage. That her life was deemed unimportant and she was never taken to a vet. She now has a 3 ft tank full of toys and fun stuff, a Sandbath to keep her skin and her hair nice and lots of lovely fresh veg and occasional meaty treat. Her life with me will be a short one but it will be the best she's had <3

    12. Aww thanks @orphansparrow . I have a real passion for pocket/starter pets. They get a pretty raw deal poor babies.

    13. This is my kitty Alsatia. She just turned 6 on Saturday. She's got an unhealthy obsession with laser pointers, she demands playtime every evening when we've finished eating dinner (and usually before that, she likes to see what she can get away with).

    17. I love this thread, so many well loved pets.

we have four cats at this moment.

[IMG]Theo and Boris on the lookout by DominiqueBB, on Flickr

Theo and his half brother Boris are Norwegian Forest cats, best buddies and champion shedders of cat hair! Two lovable big 20 lbs goofs.

      [IMG]Phoenix by DominiqueBB, on Flickr

Phoenix, aka Little Ball of Hate, a little stray we took in three years ago, she has quite the temper. Boris considers her his plaything to chase around the house.

      [IMG]LilouOct2014 by DominiqueBB, on Flickr

Lilou, better known as the Wooly Bully, the dowager of the house at 18 years old but still very feisty despite severe hyperthyroidism that requires pills daily.

      [IMG]SamanthaOct2014 by DominiqueBB, on Flickr

in Memoriam Samantha, whom we lost this year at 17, was another rescue cat we had since she walked into our house one day. The most affectionate and un-demanding cat you could have wished for.

    19. Dropping by to add a few bad quality phone photos of my cat; Mystique. Her mother was a tortoiseshell and her father.. well, we have no idea. We adopted her from the Animal Welfare league. She's about 9 or 10 years old now and far too fat :XD: But as I always say; she's fat and happy so it's all good.

She loves this little foam kid chair

      Winter, the newest addition!

Shiloh, a rescue kitty whose abuse can be found on youtube :| she's such a good girl though. Poor thing takes medication for seizures due to her head trauma :( She's a special one.

and last but not least, Sebby-kun... the playful little rascal that needs attention all the time (he's got extra toes!)

    32. You guys have such adorable pets... no clue how to upload a photo just yet. I got a cute fat cat named Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot...Ozzie for short. :kitty1

    33. Den of Angels does not host images, so you are not able to upload an image with your post. You will need to post the images to an external account like Flickr, Photobucket or your own website.
Once you've uploaded your photos, copy the URL of your image. The URL should end in jpg, gif or png. Some sites, like Etsy and Facebook, may have image URLS that will not work on DoA.

    34. Thank you! I got flicker and trying to figure hos to upload there but I'll figure it out soon enough

This is my little rescue ESA, Signe. She's a dachshund and Miniature Pinscher mix and she's hard to photograph, being all black. Her job, as she sees it, is to defend the house from all invaders (like robins, cats, and the postman), and to cuddle up to anyone who smells like stress hormones or sounds like they are upset.

    42. I have a new petling! He doesn't live with me yet (my best friend adopted his sister and they're still in a nursery tank at her place), but he'll move in once I got his habitat set up and he's grown enough to not get lost in it:

Poor little noodle is still nameless. Suggestions welcome ;)

    43. I don't have a name suggestion, but my gracious, I am *dying* over how tiny and adorable the wee noodle is!

    45. So, I have accidentally become Momma to my family's Labrador Retriever, Grunt. (That's the name he came with when he showed up at their door, and they never changed it because they thought someone would surely answer their advertisements about a found dog.) He's a gigantic baby (85 lbs/38.5 kg), and says "Mum-mum" at me when he needs lovings or cuddles, or when he gets frightened by birds being too loud outside. For being so big, he's really gentle!

    46. Awww, he's adorable!

    47. @Jany
Aahh!!! That is the most precious lil noodle ever! :D I'm partial to fantasy and dragon names for shnakeums~ Maybe Smaug or Ryuu? (I'm terrible with names, whoops-)

      @Osaka
What a sweet boy! He looks like he gives great hugs~

I'm currently on my way to pick my doggie up from the vet, she needed surgery... But she's doing really well now! So I'm happy she's coming home. :3nodding:

      • x 3
    48. @KiyoshiSenshi Thankya! He's a little derp. Smaug would have been first choice if I'd gone for a lizard. (I contemplated geckos for a bit, but then those emergency noodles happened and needed homes so ... yeah.) There are too few named snakes in literature and movies.
Aw, poor doggo! Hope she's well again soon <3 Lots of cuddles help, according to my cat ...

      • x 1
    49. @Jany
Yeah, finding snek names seems hard... Let us know when you figure something out! (And my doggo is doing pretty good, she got lots of scritchscratches on the way home and now she's sleeping off her meds. She's a lil dopey sweetie~ :kitty2)

      • x 2
    50. So cute @Jany , its so very tiny!!

    51. Right? And he wasn't even the smallest ...
As for the name, a friend of mine (not the one he's living with) started calling him "Sir Hiss" and it might stick, even though Sir Hiss is green and he's red. :huh?:

    52. Lol sir hiss that's still cute name although not entirely fitting. Aww this just makes me miss having pets around :(

    53. What about Severus, or Sevie for short? If I had a snake, that's what I'd name him.

      • x 2
    54. Mind if I Slyther-in? :whee: (But you know I'm going to endorse a name like that....8-))

    55. Severus Snake  You guys rock!

      • x 2
    56. Awwww, Severus Snake is the cutest name! :kitty1 I cannot get over this tiny noodle, he is too precious...

An update on my surgery dog: she does like like pain, but also does not like pain meds, so she will be grumpy for another couple days until those are gone. But she can now go up and down the stairs and is eating like a starved creature and keeping it down, so all is as well as it can be! :thumbup

      • x 1
    57. Congrats to the doggo! Keep up the good work!

And snek update - you guys won, he's officially named Severus Snake now. :XD: Here he is with his sister Coleen:
