This is so pretty and perfect for summer! She looks absolutely adorable in it, so I’d regard this as a wonderfully serendipitous side-track.
Thank you, ha ha for so long I didn’t have time to do doll things and somehow had time to gather more material then I’ll ever use! Thank you for the kind comment, I’m really happy with the dress as it rekindled the love for her. I can’t wait to see these all together, how fun and cute! Good luck with the black stain, if you get it off please post an update for others, I know I have a doll with the same issue. Awe thank you! It really didn’t turn out like I envisioned, although I shouldn’t expect it to as nothing does, but it was fun and once I get started making something I can’t stop. I have a lot of fun though!
Well, since I’m faced with half a month left and a doll with only one outfit, I guess I should start on another outfit for her using up some of the unused eyelet trim from the outfit I just finished. So here we go again! Here’s the supplies I have to work with:
Everyone's stuff is looking amazing! I've worked a bit on Demian's unfinished outfit, but work has picked the worst time to get so busy. I might not finish before my work travel next week, but I'll post a picture if I do manage!
So I started on the dress for Uda and it’s nothing like I wanted because I sew random and have come to the conclusion I can’t even copy my own work! LoL I’m not done but so far everything as as far as the back and everything it’s all sewn together, I’d still like to make pantaloons and something for her head. I think Uda is on the larger body by Volks the one with the balls for ankles. I hope this fits her! This is a regular Volks body. Oops I still think Flickr is blurring my photos, anyone know why?
@mydaffer That looks positively lovely…so delicate and sweet and summery! I love the way you utilized the trim on this one and that sweet ruffled hem is just “chefs kiss”.
Wow, thank you so much for the feedback! I love making dresses like this for all my dolls! That was my goal when I started buying them years ago. I added cotton trim behind the trim and found some perfect matching buttons. I don’t know if the details show for you but they don’t for me. Flickr changed again for non paying members. I upload here in a small size, maybe that’s why?!?! Thank you again.
Larger body? I thought she was on an SD10 body? Do you mean either the SD13 or SDGr body...? or am I misunderstanding? Either way, I hope it fits Teddy
So the original Volks has balls at the bottom of their ankles, maybe an sd 10 but seems larger. I tried it on her and it fits, just different. I believe the body I have in the photo has bigger front bumps. Also, the older body has a sway back. But it does fit! Yay! Thank you! I stand corrected…. LoL The upper bumps are the same and the older one is an Sd13? Nono. I’d have to dig through mounds of boxes to figure it out. I’m curious though. I looked back on my purchases, the older one is an sd 10. But now I think I’ll put them on their rightful bodies, Uda looked good on the older body but sadly Nono is getting it back!
I finished the smocked dress, modelled here on my girl Quinn I also brought home a secondhand Shinydoll Hikali over the weekend, and she got a very voluminous skirt and petticoat! Technically the petticoat is unfinished business, as it sat unfinished in my clothing stash for at least a year.
@kaschan502 I adore your dolls outfits you made, they both are lovely and look amazing on your dolls! ❤️ The smocking is awesome and that skirt is gorgeous!
Finished…. I’m taking a break, plotting out my next project and waiting for all the outstanding sewing projects here to be posted! Spoiler
Oh, I see you have an SD10 body and a Swarrico body (have several of each) basically the same size but one has a body joint and the curved slots in the hip joint so she can sit differently. As far as clothing goes, they're pretty much interchangeable. I'm glad the dress fits. The outfit is perfect for the hot summer days. Lovely - that pleated ruffle is sweet. I'm very fond of pleated ruffles. Nice! Teddy
@Teddy thank you. Yes the bodies are nearly the same size but clothes fit both. I made socks for the outfit last night, I went way over board (sewing crazy) this month! I’m really done now!
Oh my! You guys are just killing me with the summery cute sweetness this month! What a treat for the eyes! Your smocked dress is just so lovely to see, and I truly admire that smocking detail. It makes this dress so very special and it looks truly amazing on your girl. That flared skirt and petticoat on your Hikali is so much fun…it gives her such a wonderful perky vibe! Great sewing accomplishments this month for sure. How delightful! I love how this outfit has grown with the little additions you’ve added. They’re such a fun touch and add so much personality to an already adorable outfit. This style is absolutely perfect for her and gives her so much character.
@PoeticSoul thank you, I really had “sew” much fun this round and feel I’m getting back in the groove of doll sewing. Something I wanted to do when I got into dolls in the first place. I almost gave up on sewing but your threads keep my interests going. Thank you for hosting these themes!
Somebody has to make up for my complete lack of action on that front, I guess that falls to you this round. Teddy
Awe, thank you very much, I was surprised at how it turned out. It was so fun to make. Thank you for the compliment
She is adorable! I lobe the big comfy socks on her! The bonnet is adorable, and the dress so pretty and delicate! She looks amazing!
Thank you Thank you!!!!!!! I really have no clue what I’m making most the time because I sew from scratch, hence why the socks are oversized (I eyeball everything). I am so over the edge happy when things work out well. I appreciate the comment!
Bunny Brigade!!! I managed to get the bunnies all sewn up for the little kids! KODAK Digital Still Camera by Rabbid Bunnies, on Flickr Spoiler: Closer Pictures Of Kids And Bunnies! 100_3960 by Rabbid Bunnies, on Flickr KODAK Digital Still Camera by Rabbid Bunnies, on Flickr 100_3962 by Rabbid Bunnies, on Flickr I'm glad I got it done. Hand sewing all that was a bit of work, but worth it! Now they all have their own little toy!
Great job with all the hand sewing, so rewarding I’m sure! Your photos of the dolls and bunnies are awesome!!!!
Bunnies for the win! What could be cuter than that? You did an amazing job completing them, and your little crew looks absolutely adorable snuggling with their cute new treasures. Well done indeed!
@PoeticSoul Thank you! I am glad I got them finished. I'm already looking forward to next months project!
@RabbidBunnies Oh my goodness the bunny brigade is so adorable! So many rabbits to hand-sew, too, wow! @mydaffer I love the little details on that outfit, like the bow on the bloomers. And I just cannot get over how perfectly that fabric drapes in doll scale. @kaschan502 Have I taken the opportunity to say that smocking is fantastic yet? Because that smocking is fantastic. And yay for moving projects out of the stash! @PoeticSoul Pink and yellow is a fun combo to play with, and feels very appropriate for warmer weather!
@JaxxCapta thank you for the sweet comment, I’m happy you like it! The fabric is very thin and yes drapes perfectly for dolls! I wish I had more, just the trimmings left, maybe for a yosd I love girly doll clothes so I have a lot of cute buttons and bows.
I’ve finally finished my second outfit for the month (don’t ask me why I do this to myself!) Because all the ruffles and gathers have to be done by hand, 90% of these outfits are hand sewn. Takes forever! But I brought it in under the wire for this month, and I’m very proud of that. Of course, because I’m a tired idiot, I completely forgot to push her puff sleeves up to look properly poofy. But I’m not retaking the photos…they’ll just have to do. And of course she has matching bloomers.
@PoeticSoul I couldn’t wait to see what you made and how it would look with the material colors and and I’m here to say that this is gorgeous! The colors look awesome together, did you make a pattern for this outfit? It’s really nice and suits your doll so well! Hand sewing, well worth it, this outfit turned out perfect! ❤️
Thank you so much! Yes, I make all my own patterns (out of paper towels.) I have a fairly good-sized collection of dolls of all sizes, so I’m constantly tweaking one pattern or another to keep my slave-driving crew in outfits. If I didn’t make them myself, I’d go broke!
@PoeticSoul with the outfits you make you definitely want to keep them and patterns on paper towels, that’s smart and inexpensive great idea. what I meant by keep them was (the patterns you make) because I don’t make patterns and regret it….
@PoeticSoul This outfit is awesome! I love the fabric combination. It looks like so much work to do all those ruffles by hand, but well worth the effort! I I love the bloomers!
@JaxxCapta Thank you so much! @PoeticSoul Your girl's new outfit looks fabulous! Love the color combo!
Everything everyone made is so nice!! I haven't been very active in the thread this month, but I did manage to get my goals done fro this month! I finished the decorative embroidery at the hem of Vanora's top And I made and dyed the outfit for Faolán. I might try to dye his shirt to see if I can get it a little darker, and I do want to add a little more to the stitching fro the facing, but since I don't want that to be green, I'm waiting until I decide about it. And since the thread for the hem in the front didn't really take the dye, I'll probably try to do some embroidery over it too. I just need to make a few more accessories for them, and their basic style will be all set!
@quilleth Vanora’s outfit is amazing and she looks so pretty, I love the colors choices for both doll outfits. Vanora’s outfit is perfect for her and looks so good on her! Faolán’s outfit is adorable and those sandals and belt are a perfect addition and pull it all together. Bravo! ❤️❤️
@quilleth These are awesome. They look like the drawings you made of the outfits! Such pretty detail with the embroidery. I like the neckline on your Faolán's outfit. Both outfits looks very nice!
Our latest July sewing round is now up: /threads/sew...a-gothic-punk-steampunk-etc-round-148.888792/ Come join us! @quilleth These turned out so perfect for your crew! You’ve definitely defined their style, which is both casual and fun. And I’m very impressed with your embroidery to add that perfect finishing touch to both tops. Wonderful!
So delicate - makes for a pretty effect. Good luck! Dye can be tricky at times and not do what you want it too. Oooooh! Thanks! Teddy
Like @PoeticSoul , I had finished my initial project for this round and decided to tackle another one. One I'd been planning and buying supplies for for quite a while. I'm just terrible at posting progress photos! I decided to take on Grace Faerie Marzipan, included in a doll magazine I've had for years. It was quite the project! It includes in corset style top, meaning eyelets, which I'd never done before. I ordered the same eyelet setting tool suggested in the pattern instructions. I pieced together 4 strips of a recycled dress shirt for the ruffle on the underskirt, and hand sewing the lace on the skirt. I remade the top (7 pieces of outer fabric, 7 pieces of lining) because the first version was too big for the doll I intended it for and too small for the doll who could wear it instead. I adjusted the seam allowances to fit the second doll when I remade it. After all that, here's my Aishavoya Wren in Marzipan! Marzipan on Wren Marzipan from the back
@Leo Pheonix So much work! But the result is truly lovely and definitely something to be proud of. Your girl looks wonderful in this…it goes so beautifully with her coloring. That tiny stripe is epic!
Thanks! I'm very happy with how it came out. BTW- the striped fabric is poplin from Spoonflower, if you have ideas for doll garments from it too!
