How does this work? Every round, you try to make one complete outfit (or more) that fits the theme as you interpret it. It doesn't have to conform 100% to it (feel free to be creative in your interpretation!) These projects are here to inspire your sewing and creativity. During the four weeks, you post your plans, inspiration images, progress pictures etc. It's no contest, there is no winner, we all just try to motivate each other. NOTE: Sewing Project is free for anyone to join whenever they want. New faces are always welcome at anytime during the round. Hooray for a chance to work on those unfinished sewing projects we never quite finished…or to use up that fabric we so thoughtfully stashed back and then promptly forgot about…or to revisit that great design we always intended to do but never quite started. If it’s been on your back burner, then it’s time to move it forward and get it done! Week 1: 6/1-6/7 * Pick a doll and post their name, sculpt and picture * Decide what you want to make and post a description or inspiration images * If you use pre-made patterns, decide on which ones to use * If you make your own patterns, get started on that. If you have trouble finding or making your patterns, ask for help in the thread! Week 2: 6/8 to 6/15 * Buy or get done with your patterns * Gather your materials (fabrics, notions etc.) and post a picture/pictures of them! * Get started with the sewing and post progress pictures! Week 3 and 4: 6/16 to the end of June * Try to get the whole outfit done! * If you have time left over, make some accessories! When you are done, make sure to post a picture of the completed outfit, if possible on the doll! Coming rounds: [ Round 148 ] The Alternative Styles: Lolita/Decora/Gothic/Punk/Steampunk/Glamrock/Visual Kei/New Romantics/etc. [ Round 149 ] Mori Style/Dark Mori/Cottagecore [ Round 150 ] Designer’s Choice! [ Round 151 ] Seasonal [ Round 152 ] Fairytale [ Round 153 ] Leftovers and Recycling [ Round 154 ] Vintage and Retro [ Round 155 ] Monochrome [ Round 156 ] Theater/Masquerade [ Round 157 ] Unfinished Business [ Round 158 ] Pick a Decade [ Round 159 ] Working with Scraps [ Round 160 ] Bohemian [ Round 161 ] Science Fiction/Fantasy/Cosplay [ Round 162 ] Basics [ Round 163 ] Comfy-wear/Sleepwear/Delicate Underpinnings [ Round 164 ] Unfinished Business
Heaven knows I always have a queue of unfinished projects I need to get to! For this month I’m thinking of completing an outfit to go with the cute ruffled bloomers I made last month. I really like how they came out, and I have more of the same fabrics to work with for this round. I just purchased an adorable head in the marketplace (Luts Senior Delf Aru) so she will be the one I’m sewing for since her character needs absolutely everything. Hopefully I’ll also be able to get her faceup done this month. And here’s my inspiration, these bloomers from last month’s round. I’m thinking of a Lolita-inspired blouse and skirt with plenty of pink ruffles. And here are my fabrics:
What a sweet doll face, I’m looking forward to seeing the ruffle wear for her and hopefully her face up! I absolutely love love love the lace and material! I collect dot material, it’s so perfect for dolls in my opinion, love the small soft dots on yours! ❤️
Once again I will try to join in this rou nd - I should at least make an attempt to get the nightgowns I tried to work on in the last round moved on some. Teddy
I’m definitely in need of this round because I still need to make her something from last round! I don’t know what I’ll make since the saran wrap pattern I made for her got all stuck together. I think the first time I made a corset for an sd I used saran wrap and tape, gosh that was years ago. I’ll try for something more my style of dressing my dolls.
Okay, so this one might be a bit lame... I have a lot of felt. I had to repair my kids toy and needed red felt. The store was out of red felt, unless I bought a pack. Now I have a lot of felt. My SD boys are running out of shoes ... again. I have never succeeded in making a decent pair of shoes, but some felt slipper boots just might work! I need to make a few pairs of these for the guys without shoes. Normally I just buy shoes, but with the current events, not going to happen. So, it's time I learn to sew some shoes! The other little pattern is for little felt bunny rabbits for the kid dolls to have as toys. If I have time after the shoes, I want to make my little kid dolls each a stuffed bunny. They have a few tiny stuffed toys already, but I think matching bunnies for all of them would be cute. It's felt, so I am just going to hand sew it all. I know I can sew felt on a sewing machine, but the detail work in shoes in tiny bunny rabbits would just be easier to sew by hand. Here is the pile of felt and some patterns: KODAK Digital Still Camera by Rabbid Bunnies, on Flickr
Hahaha I have so many projects that fit in this round ! But I started new projects not related to dolls recently. x) So I'm not sure to join again. But will definitely follow other projects. ^^
I'm in for this round. I have the outfit I made (and didn't post) for last round that still needs a back fastener added. And I had a plan for last round to make a couple petticoats for my ladies that I didn't make yet.
This isn't unfinished business per se, so much as it is something I just decided to do while I procrastinate on other tasks. I'm working on a smocked dress for my girl Quinn, who's a Peak's Woods/Doll Chateau hybrid. I found this GORGEOUS variegated embroidery thread at a secondhand craft store, so I'm using that for the smocking stitches as an extra decorative touch.
Hm... I want to join this round, but I'm torn. Should I finish the outfit I'm half done with for DearMine Demian, or should I finish the ballet set I started for a Feeple60 but never completed?
I'll be joining this round! I need to finish both the decorations on the top I made of my Vanora in the fantasy round, and the outfit for her friend Faolán that I started for the basics round! I made a couple pairs of pants for him, but want to tweak my pattern a little more I think, and they need to be dyed. I need to sew down the facing in the neckline of the shirt mock up and finish sewing that to see how well it works, and if it works, it will need to be dyed too. and I haven't started it, but I want to draft some kind of pattern for a dressform, so I can drape some patterns for other outfits for Vanora
CUTE!!!! Lovely! Flip a coin - and if you're not happy with the outcome, do the other one. Good luck. It sounds like a lot. Teddy
Here’s my getting started for my Dollzone Nana from last round, different material and different ideas. This was the pattern, very simple one for the bloomers that I used but did extend the length and added extra width for the seams. I’m not sure I’m using that pink material yet.
oh shoes, love making shoes and I look forward too seeing these! Smocked! Oh wow you’re so fortunate to be able todo that, I have a book that tells you how to do it but following directions is something I struggle with! Love the start of your dress! Both lol! Well either would be awesome, looking forward to your choice! I love dying my dolls clothes, sometimes I get carried away! Looking forward to see what you do!
I’m truly looking forward to seeing how this progresses. Both these projects sound absolutely wonderful! Ohhhh…those bloomers look amazing! I love the fabric you used for them…it’s so pretty, and that little blue bow with a tiny pearl is the perfect finishing touch.
@PoeticSoul Ohhhh…those bloomers look amazing! I love the fabric you used for them…it’s so pretty, and that little blue bow with a tiny pearl is the perfect finishing touch. Thank you so much, that was from a baby dress I found while hunting for material. I’m thinking that pink matches nicely, now what to do with it…. LoL Not sure how I ended up with so much pink to sew with!
Oh, goodness knows I need this round. Be it the eternal stash war or the various things in Time Out, there's plenty of unfinished business around these parts. I know I've got some of my pink silk scraps cut into an outfit (at least, I hope I cut all the pieces out), so maybe I'll start there, and then I have some rainbow floral trim that I've been wanting to use for a summer outfit forever, I just need to pick a pattern and the right fabric to go with it. Looking forwards to seeing what everyone makes! I see folks have tons of cool projects!
My first petticoat in progress. The machine couldn't sew perfectly straight enough to sew the trim on, so I did it by hand. It took hours. And both finished except for closures.
@Leo Pheonix Those look so beautiful! And sewing that tiny trim by hand was definitely a labor of love but totally worth the effort.
This is an outfit for this doll from last round, now I’d like to randomly make something for an Volks sd because they are far more easier for me to sew for. fun photo first Not perfect but I had fun.
{grin!} Although I CAN make for smaller sizes of doll, I really prefer sewing for the larger ones, it's so much less fiddley and much easier to find fabrics, fastenings and trim in the right scale and drape for the doll the larger you go. I've sewn for RealPuki, but it's not for me so I'd rather save up and commission someone to make the really tiny stuff and concentrate my time on sewing for LitteFee/YoSD size or (preferably) larger. Teddy
Who cares about perfect? That outfit is cute! Real life is a bit weird right now, so I may not be as active as I'd like, but I will join anyway. I will make an attempt at getting somewhere with my long term troll project. This is Aldhissla (Maracreatures Ramunder) at his current stage: My main task right now is going to be to finish his tunic. You can't see it in the photo, but the lower edge in not finished, not even hemmed. I need to do that and to make some sort of embroidered border to tie in with the collar and cuffs. The width of the tunic is around 140cm at the hem, so it will have to be a simplified border, compared to the more visible parts, or I will never be able to finish it. I also need to add buttons and button holes at the neck opening, but that should not take long. If some miracle occurs and I find myself with more time or energy than I am currently expecting, I may also look further into the rest of his wrderobe needs: *Legwear *Footwear *Belt It's kind of funny how ones perception changes, depending on what we are used to, isn't it? I just spent months working on traditional stuff for tinies and simultaneously working on similar garments for myself and my mother. For the little ones it's all about how to fake it so that it looks kind of right, for the human stuff it's all about figuring out how it would have actually been done historically. (My mother even wove the fabric for our skirts and aprons!) Now for the troll I am kind of right in the middle. He still needs to look in scale with the tinies, so I need to make sure that drape and details looks at least plausible next to them, but the seams are so long in comparison. And yet, compared to the human stuff, his things are still kind of small. I thought myself quite used to skipping around between different scales but I am not ashamed to admit that this is getting confusing.
Oh yes indeed a lot is dependent on our perceptions, knowledge, and experience. I'd like to see your historical outfits for you and your mother - I've never gone to gthe extent of weaving my own fabric although some of my firneds have (someof them even raise their own sheep and spin their own yarn/thread). Glad to see some more of your troll outfit. But you already know I'm a fan of him. Teddy
@mydaffer How cute! That floral fabric with the butterflies is absolutely adorable. @Lillith Aldhissla! I love seeing him pop up in these rounds, he's so cool. His outfit looks great so far. I used up a chunk of eyelet fabric that's been hanging out - it was literally a small rectangle attached to a larger one, so I went the easy and efficient route and made it into a tube top dress. I sewed it by hand and added on the floral trim the same way while some friends and I were watching gaming showcases. It fits Megu pretty well as a floor-length dress, and would probably make a cute tea length dress for the taller dolls. (link if it breaks)
This is so cute!! I love the little summer outfit! It's so playful! It already looks very good. I am excited to see how this all turns out! Such a pretty summer dress! I love that floral trim, it really brings it all together!
I’m so happy seeing this cute top to go with those gorgeous bloomers. This is such an awesome summer look! Big cool looking troll guy for the win! Lovelovelove him! I’m so looking forward to your progress this round. This is an excellent use of eyelet lace, and that sweet trim ties it all together beautifully. Well done!
It came out very pretty. I've always thought broderie anglaise fabric looks beautifully summery, My older sister had a long tiered skirt of it in the 80s that I loved the look of. Teddy
@Teddy bigger is easier and less complicated but yosd are small to me and the dollzone girl is basically a smaller size yosd with long legs and arms, definitely not a chunky Volks type doll. LOL I’ve seen your sewing through the years, I really look forward to seeing you back at it again someday and hopefully soon! @Lillith that trolls tunic is amazing, perfect color and material and you’re adding more too it, my opinion is that it looks complete to me. Love it! ❤️ @JaxxCapta Oh my your Megu is so charming in that, what a lovely dress, I love the simplicity of it, love your Megu she really wears it well! Also, Megu was the first doll I wanted to get and discovered when I found bjds, I couldn’t figure out how to order her way back when from the japan site so I settled on an old big headed Nana and I love her the same. Megu will always be my most favored though! @RabbidBunnies thank you for the sweet comment on my dolls outfit. @PoeticSoul thank you, that was actually my delicate under pinnings that turned summer outfit, I actually like it, honestly it was hard to make being so small. I actually think I may try this on one of my yosds because this dolls basically a yosd with long arms and legs. She’s very hard for me to sew for because of her proportions and upper bumps are a bit out there, my dolls of choice are unusual flatter in the upper region. Thank you everyone for commenting about my dolls outfit, I appreciate the feedback! ❤️
Thanks everyone for the kind comments! Here are my ladies in their finished petticoats. Newly arrived Isora (Dollzone) seated and Wren (Aishavoya) standing. Two Ladies in Petticoats
They looks so pretty in them, we'll done, that material was such a good choice, you can pair it with anything. I do love the lace you hand sewn on, although it may have took a long time, it’s so perfect. ❤️
Okay…so I finished her blouse at least. It gave me absolute fits because I initially did it wrong, but I had no extra fabric to make another one so had to rework it. Her faceup is giving me fits too and is still a work in progress. This doll is making things quite difficult!
@Leo Pheonix They look awesome in these petticoats! It fits them well. They are both so cute too! @PoeticSoul I love this! You did so much tiny detail! It looks so comfortable as well! Both of you did such great jobs!! ...and here I only finished one pair of slipper shoes so far.
That’s so pretty on her, I love the things you make! The ruffles look so cool they don’t lay flat, how do you get them to come out like that? I hope to see all your dolls together in the lovely outfits you’ve made them! ❤️
@PoeticSoul her outfit looks lovely! Thanks @mydaffer , @Teddy ! I'm really happy with how they came out.
@Leo Pheonix Those petticoats go great with their shirts! And I love how Wren's hair bows match the red flowers on her shirt. @PoeticSoul Ugh, running out of fabric is such a headache. It turned out well, though, and it's just perfect with that wig.
@Leo Pheonix Those petticoats look great on your girls! @PoeticSoul I'm sorry it gave you problems, but it looks great now. Good on you for sticking with it.
I’m going to try and make a dress like this for my Uda, the one I sewn a Cinderella dress for, Mimi stole Uda’s dress (this one here) and I really liked this one on Uda, but Mimi wears it well too. Mimi Uda
Thank you for your lovely and kind comments everyone. I truly appreciate it. And I finally did a faceup on her that I’m completely happy with, so that’s a big sigh of relief. Now it’s onto the skirt (which will be much easier I hope) to finally complete this outfit. Well, in truth that’s just the way they come out. I sew them by hand, gathering as I go (one gather at a time…a big pain, but it gives me the look I want.) But the real reason, I believe, is that I use cotton eyelet instead of regular lace. It has more body so it just naturally stands out more. I liked the effect so much, I ordered more of this same eyelet in two other colors so all her outfits will be coordinated. I’m trying to build her a wardrobe style that is cohesive with her character…even if she fights me kicking and screaming all the way.
@PoeticSoul thank you and that’s nice you were able to get more in different colors. I love the idea of hand sewing rather the sewing machine for some things, definitely turned out nice the way you gather them. Can’t wait to see the skirt next and it’s nice you got her face the way you want.
And I’m finally done with this outfit. I wanted her bloomers to show since I worked so hard on them, plus I was going for a youthful, over-the-top cute look. I’m happy with it.
That’s so pretty I love how the ruffles show at the bottom and definitely worth showing and not covering up! Love her face up (perfect for her) and that wig is perfect for her as well, she is a cutie! I always love what you make, this is really super cute and I’m ridiculously crazy for all things cute! ❤️ and the hair bows are a lovely added touch!
She looks so sweet! I just love this outfit so much! I like that the bloomers show underneath the skirt because they are just too pretty to cover up. Her shirt and skirt are nicely done. The bows in her hair are adorable. I like the fabric mix a lot. It's a nice subtle contrast that makes the ruffles pop out and get noticed.
I got the felt shoes done! They look fine. Although it's a little difficult to see the details in the picture. But, I recently found a some faux leather at 25 cents a roll. They didn't have a lot of variety. I got two white and a reddish brown one and a navy one. I figured for a dollar on all of that it was worth a chance to see if I could make better shoes with it, and the shoes in the front are the result. I mean they are not perfect, but for my first pair of shoes with real shoe material, I'm pretty happy with it! KODAK Digital Still Camera by Rabbid Bunnies, on Flickr I decided to go ahead with the bunny projects for the little kid dolls. The month is only half over and I have time to do that. I also never made these before, so this month is one big experiment for me.
Wow!!! I’m so impressed! I’m always fascinated whenever someone can actually create shoes…it seems like cobbler elf’s magic to me! Well done indeed. Those one’s in the front that can be easily seen look utterly amazing, so I assume the rest are equally as wonderful. What a skill to have.
I made this outfit for my doll last night and this morning. It’s not the one I wanted to make but as always I get side tracked. She needed a dress from me anyway so thats done lol. I need to make the long bloomer pants still and will do that tonight. Then I’m going to keep searching my large stash for the white material I need for the dress I really wanted to make to begin with. This has a very pretty lace over the top that was part of a sheer blouse I had on hand, it didn’t turn out well as I’d of liked but it’s a doll dress, does it really matter? Flickr is blurring my photos I post I think?
Thank you all for the comments about the shoes! I hope to get better at making them and even try different styles when I get more used to making shoes! This dress is so lovely! I like the lace and ruffles as well as the headband. It looks very soft and comfortable too, Perfect for a summer's day! I cut out all of my little bunnies that hope to make. If I don't get to them, they can fall into the next batch of unfinished projects. My HZ Doll, I think he's an Ao Ze Tian, the company faceup matches. Got home to me yesterday. I don't think the previous owner knew much about these dolls. They told me his eye was missing, and it was just inside the head cap. He must have just been kept on display. Ao Ze Tian's original wig is black and this doll had terrible black stains all over it's head. So far I've tried magic eraser, baking soda, acetone polish, and light sanding. Nothing is getting this out. I left him sitting with OXY 10 on him all night, so I'll see how that worked (A wig will cover the stains.). He might sidetrack me from getting back to the bunnies this month. Here are all the little bunnies cut out and ready to be sewn. KODAK Digital Still Camera by Rabbid Bunnies, on Flickr
