Wearables Sewing Project: Theater/Masquerade [ Round 139 ]

Oct 1, 2024

    1. Amadis' Stargazer outfit is finished, just on time for her to go to a costume party (if she won't mind going without shoes, that is  ).

(I cut the mesh shirt while making a film and masking tape pattern for the vest, and had to resew it, also correcting the shoulders)
The trousers and vest consist mostly of velvet ribbons, with some silky lining fabric for the trousers and thicker natural silk for the vest. The collar and cuffs are also made of ribbons and are put on separately, fastened with snaps. The mesh shirt stretches wide and just goes over the head with the faceplate removed, no closure. The trousers are also without closure, held with elastic in the waistband.
The black cords on the cape have stars at the ends; the cords wouldn't go through the holes in the stars, so I just melted the ends with a lighter and sewed the stars on with thread.
In the spirit of the season, here is another picture I got while playing with the lighting:

    2. @helgie Good for you…you got it done and it looks spooky awesome on Amadis! This turned out so great, and I love the overall structure of your design.:D

And I’m coming in right under the wire too.:) It was a crazy and stressful month, but I was determined to complete Mesquite’s quasi matador/mariachi/fantasy look so he would at least be in character and not naked. I even managed to actually get his faceup and headpiece done before I completely ran out of sealant. (The rest of his body will have to wait until I can restock my MSC supply after the new year.) But at least he has a face, so his character can shine through for me. I did this prior to his outfit which left me really scrambling to finish because these old used and delicate fabrics gave me absolute fits! Parts had to be reconstructed and pieced together to have enough for the pieces, and creating a pattern to fit this body was a nightmare (and yes, it is actually fully removable.) It was daunting but I muddled through, and I got the look I was going for. Whew boy, I’m glad it’s done!:sweat

    3. Everybody's been on fire this round!! It's been delightful. I kinda fizzled out due to an ongoing unexpected family emergency, I'm about a third of the way through with the topstitching but I'll still need to do detailings and such. I'm not beating myself up about it, but I'm hoping to just get it finished soon regardless.
