I haven't even dug out the bathing costumes from where I stashed them yet so you're way ahead of me. I've been working on a full sized Victorian outfit for a friend, and some sewing for a children's charity which has kind of eaten all my sewing energy). I've served Christmas Day and Boxing day for my own sewing time though. Teddy
There's still another week left...poor Josiah still waits on the work table. I printed off pattern pieces but kept finishing other to-dos first. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm off to visit @Alice80 for a few days between Christmas and New Year (train strikes permitting) so it cuts into that remaining time, but I have two days of my own sewing before then so might get the bathing costumes moved on a stage or two. It's that time of year when there seem to be even more to-do's on the list than usual Best of luck! Teddy
Motivation: Minimal... Distractions: Excessive! A small bit to update. I thought Teddy might appreciate how my brain arranges things. ;} While continuing to procrastinate, it dawned on me that the gentleman will need white stockings with his breeches...and then got to thinking how burgundy velveteen breeches might well need lined to minimize staining...when I finally checked my sock making stash, there was one leg of a toddler's white tights which I managed to turn into a pair of snug tights for Josiah! Now with his socks on, I won't have to worry about whether his pants will fit over them later. Also, while studying up on the period, I had realized the ruffled neck of his shirt just would not do! And figured out making him a pleated stock today to cover said shirt collar. Hooray! Still two more days left for actual clothing to occur...
I have sewed something for one of my abs girl. Not very appropriate in the theme but well, I sewed something. x) (unfortunately she is off topic so I can't show her here... plus, she needs a face-up ^^')
I had to laugh when I saw this statement…ain’t it the truth! I myself had the best of intentions for this month but just as I was ready to start my sewing, my dear hubby came down with a severe upper respiratory flu (in spite of getting our flu shots) followed shortly by my getting it. I guess we were fortunate it wasn’t Covid but yikes!…it laid us down low for most of the month. I crawled out of it just long enough to clean house and cook Christmas dinner for the family, but absolutely nothing else got done this month, and our strength still isn’t back to normal levels. Why, when things like this happen, is our creativity always the first thing to go? It’s so not fair! So my plans for this month will have to wait until our future “unfinished business” round. Good for you! Getting any sewing done for dolls is a very good thing indeed!
I finished the jacket! It turned out ok-ish but I'm still pretty happy that I got it done at all. This fabric is fragile, slippery and pinholes are permanent. And this I chose for a jacket with a lapel collar and set in sleeves... Oh well. I did adapt the sleeves and the collar a bit from the original pattern and as you can see, it does work well enough for the jacket to be worn in several different ways, but it still doesn't lie as flat as I would have wished for. But I know what to change if I do this again. Still, she does have a jacket now. So, a win, I guess? Oh, and happy new year, to you all!
Lilith, it looks great & kudos to you for getting that fabric to work! Josiah almost has drop front breeches now! It was a long day of melding three patterns, head scratching & learning about a clothing style that was the latest improvement 300 years ago. XD So sorry you & your hubs were sick PoeticSoul. :/ I agree...last month I spent sitting, bored & sick & got nothing done when it would have been the perfect time to quietly create if I'd had the energy. {}
I do indeed. Well done with the tights and stock. Well done - the in-progress picture of them you sent me looks very good. Well done! So sorry it happened - and at this time of year too. But it's not surprising it took too much out of you to leave you eneergy for anything else. I hope it clears up fully soon. Glad you managed to get it done! I now keep a set of sewing clips ("wonder clips") beside my sewing machine machine for use on fabrics that make pinning difficult. Happy New Year to you too! My progress on the bathing costumes was minimal, I'm afraid. I managed to get the hand finishing done on sleeve and leg cuffs for two of them (Edith's red one, and Cressida's pale blue) so they're ready to have the braid added... ... But, then had to pack for my trip to Cornwall. and was out of hand-work on the Bathing costumes so took the last few of the ginham dresses with me to finish hand-sewing the sleeves/lining seams on the trains to and from Cornwall, so at least I've now got all of the gingham dresses to the point where they jsut need fastenings and the final accessories (belts/sashes/Swiss-Waists, depending on which doll it's for), even if it wasn't progress on the "(un)seasonal" bathing costumes as I planned Plus, we managed to nearly complete the organising of @Alice80 's new doll room, while I was there. So, it just needs a couple of bookcases for extra doll shelving (plus, working through a mountain of sales listings to get the outgoing items out of the way). So the distraction from sewing was largely doll related. Happy New Year, everybody! Teddy
Just squeaking in, & still lacking a waistcoat & coat...Josiah now has pants!! I am so happy with the fit in the end, but getting there really pushed my brain figuring out the pattern adjustments & the construction steps. ;} And, he can even sit down in them! Happy new year everyone!
Fabulous! Getting pants to fit well is always dificult and fall front pants adds another level to that. I made a pair for an off topic doll once and I remember how much confusion there was before I managed to wrap my brain around it. I am very impressed! These looks beautiful. Progress is progress, however small. I still think they will be awesome when they are done.
I’m so impressed with all this flurry of activity at the end of the month! Wonderfully done everyone! And now it’s onto the new month’s offering. I hope you will join us! /threads/sewing-project-fairytale-round-118.864691/
