Perfect solution! A white dress is certainly a mainstay in a girl’s wardrobe. And that little rose is such a delightful touch. Well done!
Thanks! I was worried I won't be able to make anything to match with it. I'm happy White dresses almost always goes with any color of jacket. Thank you so much!
I hit a wall in that I couldn't find my threadbox, which was driving me up the wall because as is the law of the universe I felt like I had just seen it the previous round. And it wasn't at all where I thought I'd remembered seeing it, but that's what happens when your "clever storage methods" just become part of the scenery after a while With that crisis averted, I've got all the colors I need to get started on the actual sewing! It's about time, lol, though hopefully these should work up quick. I'll be making my penultimate layaway payment on the girls these outfits are for at the start of next week, so I'm very excited to be in the home stretch!
Are you sure you aren't talking about my house....? Yay! Good luck getting them done for when the girls come home! Teddy
I totally didn't get distracted from shirt making by the allure of making pants. I learnt several things in this, most importantly that functional tiny buttonholes make me want to cry. They're not quite fully finished, I want to topstitch the top edge of the waistband for aesthetics (that's what the stray thread is) but they're done and functional now.
{LAUGH!} That's not a phrase you hear often (especially here in England where "pants" are underwear, not trousers). Teddy
So if it's not allow here please remove. But I am so excited to share I am working on a full outfit for my new dolls companion. I want him to have the wood elf/fey.
Hooray for functioning pants! You’ve done an excellent job on these, and I’m quite impressed considering pants (or trousers as our British Teddy would call them) are often difficult to fit properly. Yet they’re a mainstay of a guy’s wardrobe, so if you can pull it off you’ve conquered a major tailoring milestone! Wonderful! And certainly feel free to share your progress with us here. That look is a perfect basic for fantasy characters and we’d love to see it!
I think the way to enjoying buttonholes is to do them by hand. And also proper buttonhole silk thread. I did 28 tiny lacing holes and 3 buttonholes on a shirt this month and I did not even think about it.
I've been enjoying the teeny stitches of the vest's armholes, I'm curious to see how it'll look! The original pattern called for lace fabric, but I'm using a solid cotton, so I'm interested to see what the drape will look like. Maybe I'll make a different one closer to the original instructions to compare to in a later round! As it is, once the vest is finished I'll be sewing the darts into the dress bodice and hemming/pinning pieces together! Will return with pics when I have more to show, lol
So... I got off track and ended up making a corset rather than a bra and panties. I still need to figure out the back.
Ooooh! That looks really, really good on her! What a great basic piece for her wardrobe, and I’m certain she’ll get lots of wear with that because it’s such a great piece. Besides, a bra and panties would fit perfectly into our June round, so perhaps you can work on those then.
Good job! I wish I could make those type of pants. I should try too. Beautiful! I usually have problem with the back of all the outfits too Have to find a god solution every time.
Mockups save lives. You can fiddle to your heart's content and sort out where you want them to sit and how tight you want them to fit. Also for some reason my brain completely understands how to sew pants together one way (there is another way, I do not understand that way) but I still have to treble check that I'm setting sleeves in the right way. Brains are weird.
Nice. I always say that if something is going to go wrong with anything I sew it will be the sleeves - That's why I took to costuming renaissance styles where the sleeves are separate garments that tie on at the shoulder instead of needing to be set into an armhole. Teddy
Well I've finally got some progress to report back with, lol. The vest was time consuming, getting the seams right for a nice gentle curve was a challenge I think I did well with! I'm proud of how it turned out. Our household is currently in quarantine, one of my roommates tested positive for covid so although I missed a wedding I was supposed to go to this weekend , I've had plenty of time to relax and sew. I had a spare bit of small ribbon that arrived in some packaging with some corsets I bought from Raouken, and it's the perfect length to be a cute little belt! Vest is done! by Jules B, on Flickr Now to decide whether I want to work on the test top or the dress next... ETA: I forgot to mention!!! The rest of the household is also testing daily and so far we're all negative, and our housemate is in "solitary" separate from the rest of us, so we're doing what we can! He's doing okay, luckily, hopefully he'll be on the mend soon!
The girls I'm sewing for were ordered from a dealer in my country in March, my first minifees! But I have a few months to wait, I think Fortunately once they arrive at the dealer, they should be shipped pretty quickly!
@Mamo Oh excellent! That vest looks so well done, and I really like the gentle curves and topstitching details. Whenever your girl arrives, she’s going to be so well dressed!
Thank you!! I'm super happy with how it turned out! These past few rounds have been great for getting me started on making sure there's outfits at the ready when the package finally arrives
