Scam on Ebay: seller "brandshopping-2008"

Jul 5, 2008

    1. I hope this is the right place, I think this is where I write about this, if not sorry, I'm a bit lost
      :doh

anyways, so I was searching ebay and I found this seller called
brandshopping-2008. The dolls she is selling are beautiful, and I was wondering if anyone has bought from her. I'm really suspicious of ebay, and always want a second opinion before buying from people.

and sorry again if this is a repost, or in the wrong place
      here is the store:
      http://myworld.ebay.com/brandshopping-2008/

edit-- found another forum about this, sorry ^^

    2. in my point of view, most of her dolls look like volks and k-doll.
      it's wired.

    3. I swear those girl heads look like Volks Masha.

    4. thanks sorry, I was kind of lost~

    5. They seem like a scam to me. All of the 60-cm dolls look like Volks recasts or, even worse, stolen photos from y!J

Anna looks like a School A

      Ann looks like a Kun

And Min looks like a Michele.

The rest look like modded School A's or F-16's to me.

ETA: Yup, they're on the scammer's list >> nm.

    6. They are stolen pics from Y!Japan. -__- Who knows what, if anything, you would actually get if you purchased one of these.

    7. Pamdora - cancel the transaction, if you can. Because this store is taking photos directly off of Yahoo!Japan auctions (as has been proven by several posts before), it is highly likely that you won't get ANYTHING. Not ever a poorly face-uped knock-off made of resin mixed with saw-dust. Most companies selling knock-offs at least take some pictures of the dolls they recasted, face-upped differently and claimed as their own. These ones are just taking images that can come up in any image search.

    8. MIN is a modded school a (with mouth open for teeth) it's not Michele.

Pamdora: Please file dispute with paypal and ebay. Do not give your money to such sick person!

    9. Wow, you guys are good. I came here to check out any info on this site and/or dolls. Looks like you have answered all my questions. Thanks for your good work and for sharing. I've learned some good things today. Thanks!!

    10. I tried to be careful, do my research, went through every single picture on Gigglegeek and google. The artists' original work do not come up for me, or I would send this along with my dispute to ebay. If someone has the original doll or the original links to the pictures featured on the auction called Sunny, please let me know. I will keep you posted.

    11. Like I said earlier, I am really sure that is Chie's F16 (Channel Toy Box). She has way too many photos on her website for me to find those exact photos but I am 100% sure by looking at the ones posted the auction you won. You are not gonna find anything using search engines such as gigglegeek and google (unfortunately). It seems you bought a ''blank'' with no face-up. So regardless it will not look the same as photo and seller can really argue with you saying it is the same doll when it is not maybe............I really don't know what else to tell you now.........

Except this is INDEED an illegitimate item.

    12. Hi Pamdora,

Ask them for a photo of the blank doll head on the blank body.
You should see a picture of what you are buying before you pay for it.
Include copies of your request to Ebay.

    13. http://cgi.ebay.com/1-4-BJD-doll-bo...Z017QQcategoryZ160851QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem

notice the 1/4 doll shows the exact same AOD body photo as the 1/3 dolls.
I asked them about this, also about Volks heads/AOD body and their answer is posted in the listing:

Q: why does this 1/4 doll listing show the identical photo of the body as the 1/3 listings?
This also looks exactly like a Volks Megu head - is it? And the body looks identical to an AOD 1/3 body.
Are you getting these dolls from those companies or are you casting them yourselves?
Do you have your own photos that show the exact dolls you are selling?
The reason I'm asking all these questions is it is being reported on other forums that these are knock-offs or bootlegs and not the real thing. If these are genuine, or are your own unique product, I think it would be helpful to provide more photos to show buyers what the actual doll they will receive looks like. thanks Oct-28-08

A: Hello!! we have been selling the BJD Doll in contract with the factories producing BJD BODY AND HEAD the company joined with us are producing BJD version 2 same to AOD'S Doll body. so we have been ordering the body to that company, but not AOD's. we make-up the Dolls and sell the Dolls after purchasing the body from factory by OEM process, that is why we can sell the Dolls competitively. as well, we have been provided the HEADs of Doll from each factory so those might be same to other brand but we don't use them form AOD'S OR Volk's listing the 1/4 body is why we are only explaining the form of body of the version 2 of BJD, but we will revise the details of the picture or update them any other questons please contact to me again we will reply for your question as soon as possible thansk a lot for your time

I don't even understand what they are saying in their answer!

    14. They're trying to say they use the same companies as these other companies, so pretty much they get the overstock or whatever. But we all know that's obviously impossible for them to be working with both companies that provide for AoD or Volks since Volks uses mostly private artists and there's also the fact one company is based in China and the other in Japan. It would be too time consuming and too much money to have imported from two companies. They're just being utterly ridiculous and their lies are just pathetic.

    15. Would it be useful to let Volks and AoD know about this? BTW, it seems the store changes names every time something is added to the inventory. I've seen them go from brandshopping2008 to Happy-Doll-Paradise back to brandshopping2008 within the past week.

    16. I almost ordered from this seller myself! So glad I didn't...

Noticed you were thinking of a B&G Hera ... Hera is just adorable! I just ordered a B&G doll myself (Afra) and I LOVE the doll! A very nice quality for a good price. If you order, I reccomend jack (renaissance fashion) on ebay. He's great!

    17. @dollmania: that is a Volks Cyndy, the one in the "brandshopping store is a Four Sisters. And yes, they do look alike^^

    18. i have a four sisters myself but i thought the makeup of the brandshopping store looks much like the faceup of the YJP auction and thought the pic was stolen off it :sweat

anyway it looks shady overall and unsafe to transact so thank you for highlight

    19. I did send a pm to the official AOD person here on DoA but have not heard back.

    20. EMS does take a long time from China, it's strange. 5 days - 12 is what I have waited most times.

    21. I have heard and read comments about this seller on Chinese forums about this seller. A buyer told them, everything you sell are bootlegs and the Seller replied with: HOW DO YOU KNOW? All dolls made in China are fake.

      (can you believe some people!?)

There is not even a need to try to find out or justify what they sell. They are illigitimate, PERIOD. END OF QUESTION.

    22. Shipping times are kinda beside the point... Whether you wait 2 or 15 days, you're still getting either:
      A) A poor quality illegally recast Volks/Aod hybrid that doesn't look anything like the sales pictures.
      b)Nada

Report is back on! I'll be reporting again with links to original pictures. If you have any, or know who the artists are and can link to their sites/auctions, please do the same!

    23. yeah....we all know these are fake. But by keeping the discussion alive it alerts others. Also their incredibly stupid reply that they posted in the auction listing helps to alert buyers as well. Hopefully, enogh of those stupid replies on their part and ebay might just pull them. And of course it would help if the owners of the stolen photos, along with AOD and Volks would alert ebay that would be great too.

    24. I came accross this kind of late, but I was wondering if Volks has been notified about this yet?

    25. [IMG]

this head had been faceup+mod by an artist in japan
      sold on YHJ for 191,000 円 (that's roughly around 2000$ )
so it's impossible that they're selling both head and body for just 280$ !!

      the auction link

      http://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/116309601?u=musee_nior

i'm quite mad right now
it's obvious that this seller is a scammer who use photos from YHJ!

    26. YEAH! SICK.

http://web1.kcn.jp/musee_nior/c_sa2.html (Le Musée Nior's web photos of this school A directly from her site here) This seller doesn't JUST take photos from Y!J. :x:x

And I believe this seller has knowledge about BJD as well. Perhaps she is even a doll owner who is supporting her own dolls by this practice. SICK SICK.

    27. Izam - i'm always mad when i see somebody try to makes a profits from other peoples's work
I'm a fan of Matsuo-san's work. my blood's boiling now to see her works being abuse like this
because scammer like this that many great artiest don't like posting their works in public.

    28. God, that's bad!!I'm thinking to who bought a doll from this seller...will lost a LOT of money...sad indeed =(

    29. this auction has now been won by someone called jasminecarrol(0) I almost feel like messaging them and warning them and giving them the link to this thread - I feel so sorry that they may have fallen into the trap and paid already! :x:evil:

    30. Do it! I have done it before in the past (although the buyer never wrote me back).

    31. I notified Volks on Monday. They are looking into it too.

    32. You might want to keep in mind telling people who won the auction about what their getting is a fake, that they might have known that. For example last time when their was a wave of babydoll, I told the people that they'd bought fakes and two of them messaged me back telling me that they knew it was a fake but were buying it anyway because they couldn't afford the real thing. But there you go. :3

    33. Its a good thing you had the courage to ask *hugs* aside from the blatant and disgusting theft from another artist, I myself would love to have a Volks doll but cannot afford it, and I wouldnt ever consider in a million years buying a rip-off copy as aside from their reduced quality, the pleasure of owning a rare beauty just isnt there... Copies in this indestry arent like rolex watches off the side of the road, ABJD's are a more boutique industry and literally every doll sold by a company counts, its what keeps them going and producing such beautiful work. If you buy a cheap knock-off you are putting money in the pocket of someone who hasnt had to lift a finger towards creating the desire for a doll and is pocketing the profits from someone elses hard work....

Oh and I sent an e-mail to the seller.... LOL just to let her know EXACTLY what DoA and ZoZ thought of the blatant knock-offs.... I kept a thinly veiled politeness but would have left them in no-doubt that we a p***ed off about this and that everyone and anyone we can warn will be!! And that they were unimaginitaive parasitic lepers trying to make a living off someone elses hard work.... Do you think I was too rough?

I messaged thw two buyers, looks like one of the winning bidders as mentioned above has set up an account purely as a feedback generator (account started on the 29th of Oct with 0 feedback) and the other is a regular ebayer so fingers crossed ebay gets this scammer off ebay asap!!

    34. holy moly.... just got this on my ebay in response to my e-mail to the seller about our being aware of the use of fraudulent photographs:

"we are an agency of the factory of the Doll so we have started this business, we also want to keep in intellectual property of other company. we will connect to the company about this issues. and we are going to remove the listing. anyway thank a lot for information and advice.
      - brandshopping-2008"

      And this from the buyer:

"Thank you for contacting me - I read the thread on DOA - I have contacted other buyers and they have indicated they received original dolls in original boxes in new condition and quality - I am heartbroken, but am awaiting a response from ebay and paypal regarding the auction and my bid withdrawal. I appreciate you contacting me regarding this - I thought I had done my homework before bidfding, but will post on DOA from now on if I have any question. Again, thank you.
      - p********"

so it looks like the Hujoo they were selling were real, but they are quite cheap anyways so not a hard thing there to generate feedback, it will be very interesting to see how this turns out hey...?

    35. But those were transaction for Coco dolls..................-_-............weren't they? She may actually be selling those..........

    36. Urggggg i've just been the brandshopping-2008 page
thery removed the doll that was useing Matsuo's picture

      but the others still remains
i'm pretty sure the other heads are stolen pictures from other sites too
so i think they'll only remove the one that have "solid" prof agains them

unless we can find the original sale, artiest, etc prof for the other picture it seems they're never going to stop

    37. Yeah they are real aparently which is a good sign... (and nah they are hujoo's that she has FB for the cocos are for sale as we speak but no FB for those as yet...) its the Volks rip-off that suck SOOOOO much!!

    38. I had contacted AOD yesterday, and this was the reply I got:

      "Thank you for your email.
We have checked this store. The bodies in the picture is our doll bodies.Maybe this seller bought doll bodies from us,then sell their doll with our bodies. We don't want to report to ebay because the seller didn't sell our dolls completely. We can accept it so far."

so.... sadly, it does not appear that AOD even cares or is willing to look into it further. Unbelievable! I guess this is why these scam sellers are so blatant and proliferate.

    39. Honestly though, I kinda agree--there isn't much they really can do. They might actually have bought AOD bodies. I don't believe that, but it's a hard one to prove.
It's more obvious from the heads and the yj pics that these are fakes.
I'm absolutely baffled that they are still up on ebay with all the evidence and all the auction reporting we've done.

    40. We had this problem last time with another fakes seller and ebay took forever to do anything about it, so don't hold your breath. :/ They are very slow at taking action because unless they are selling fakes, and claiming it to be something legit (i.e. if the auction said, selling Volks School A head) then ebay would take quicker action, but because they aren't claiming it to be a Volks sculpt then things become more tricky.
      Ebay doesn't know anything about BJDs let alone tell that the Volks four sisters head should be on a 1/3 body only as it was never produced for 1/4. -_-;

    41. We could always make a bid, not commit to buy yet n leave bad feedback saying that the seller is a fake, etc...?
That's what happened to one that was selling bogus luts dolls a few years back.

    42. Isn't making a bid though, a contract to say that you will purchase it if you win and I thought you could leave feedback until you win it. ^^;

    43. O_O

Don't you have to go through whole transaction and complete it? Then you can make feedback to seller......although seller can no longer give NEGATIVE feedback to buyers but......................:o:o

If you don't pay they can ask ebay to do something to your account I think.........and then that feedback cannot be posted on their account..........since there is a dispute..if I remember correctly.

    44. I dont think so, just as long as you dont commit to buy then you're not fully agreeing to pay for it... I cant quite remember how it went with the Lut's dolls, but that's what happened...
There were people who bidded, refused to pay and left really nasty feedback saying that the seller was a fake and warning people not to buy from them.

    45. Hmm, thats a bit unfair concidering that there's someone potentially stealing people's money and Ebay wont do anything about it and they will do something about people not paying for something, with a decent reason.

    46. I have to say judging from mhdolls's response from the company, if the company doesnt seem to care, I certainly dont see why i should bother...

    47. Well, obviously people are concerned about other people giving away money for something that is likely not to exist from that seller.
Fair enough you shoulnt bother, but at the end of the day the person thats copping out the money will be the one who missed out, so why should even the company's care?

Fact of the metter is, people on this thread care about other people being scammed or for other reasons, like, respect for the company products, etc.

    48. looks like ebay has pulled all their auctions (for now anyway). None listed, and ll the ones previously listed are showing as invalid item.
So yes, it is still worth reporting.

    49. Sweet! Even their genuine Ugg boots are gone! I guess they're probably dropping that seller ID.

    50. yeah, they'll be back with a new scam, but for now at least no one will get scammed on their dolls :)

    51. Everyone good job! I'm glad to see this seller GONE. If they come back up again, we'll knock them back down. YES WE WILL!!!!!!

    52. Just to add to that, she is now no-longer a registered user which means the account has been closed.... I don't think this is the last we will hear of her but it will be interesting to see what pops up next hey? At least they know we cant be fooled *grins* gotta love that shut-em-down-for-being-fakers feeling hey

    53. yaaay!! thanks for the group effort everyone :)

    54. I started up a topic in Links out about getting Tineye.com to index images from doll sites.

If we can get at least the most popular websites cached there, it will make it LOTS easier to track down the source of photos when scammers like this pop up.

    55. Ahhh- I see- thank you so much (I really sounded like an idiot :doh) I just wasn't sure really how all of it worked- but it's understood now, these dolls really are beautiful too, so it sucks that the true artist isn't getting proper credit :(
