Scam on Ebay: seller "brandshopping-2008"

Jul 5, 2008

    1. I'm not sure about the doll, but there is one thing that worries me about their shipping. It says in the listing:

      "8~15days after send out.

We are able to notify customers when their order ships as email with tracking number(EMS)"

EMS does NOT take that long. EMS is express so all my EMS packages took 3-4 days to deliver. I'm guessing they'll send by surface mail or air mail and take the rest of the money for themselves.

It kind of all looks fishy to me and I wouldn't bid on it myself, especially since the Ebay member has no feedback. The doll price is also strangely low? Sounds like one of those "too good to be true" offers that ends up being "exactly what you pay for" (if they send the doll at all). Oh gosh, I sound really terrible, but I just want you to be careful. =(

    2. Thank you very much for your opinion. That's just what I thought... If it would only be the body the price would be ok but if I understand right the head is included. (?) Does anyone know the name of the girl? I'm not too familar with Angel of Dream so help would be appreciated :D Especially since I try to find a 1/4 BJD instead of the MDD I was wishing for (heared about their loose legs, that's why I'm not too sure about buying her anymore :( )

    3. She looks like either a Lan or a Rao to me, but I believe she's a Lan.

I would be wary of this one to be honest. I think your best bet would be to order from an already known reliable dealer.

    4. I just looked at the pictures again and... could it be possible that she has 2 different heads? especially if you look at the last 2 pictures? Oo

Thank you for your opinion either. I will look for a dealer ^^ And thank you for your help with the mold :D

    5. I took a look at the AOD website and I agree with WrathChu - she does look like AOD's Lan. =)

I noticed that the ebay listing has pictures (of the doll body) that look exactly like AOD's pictures. O_o Another thing to be suspicious of. Scammers are known to use pre-existing photos taken from websites instead of their own.

    6. I'd say if you are looking for an AoD doll (I agree with the fact of her looking like a Lan, does to me too) then it would be better to buy directly off AoD. They do have an ebay account themselves if you prefer buying from there...though it appears they haven't got a postage price on their auctions and I don't actually remember how much it is off the top of my head since I bought from them in february

    7. I definitely won't order from this ebay seller, thank you for your help! :D Lan is really cute, now I only have to decide between her and B&G Hera :sweat You both were a big big help for me ^-^

    8. Thank you, too, einon ^.^ Do you know how to find their ebay store? I would love to have a look around

    9. lol, another thing.
They say that Mitglied: seit 21.06.08 in Südkorea
      Versandkosten: Nach Deutschland
      Artikelstandort: Guangzhou, China

      I think that says it all ^^;;
I like the head a lot by the way xD

There may be a tiny tiny chance it is legit, because the information is identical to that on the AOD site and it does actually say AOD in the title name rather than a made up brand. But it still seems suspicious. XD Just to be sure you should get the one from the aod website like others have said- its only a little bit more. ^^

    10. Removed hotlinked image:
      http://asun77.cafe24.com/hujoo/WAN.jpg

EDIT: HAHAHAHA. XD To put it plainly~ Look at the edited shipping times, I mean come on. XDD

Thats such a shame. She is an adorable girl, but who knows what sculpt she was probably copied from T.T

They probably changed all the information because they were found out by someone- oh, is that person on DoA by any chance? :O

    11. Better off just buying the doll from AoD :)

    12. I agree, definately buy directly from AOD. I bought my first girl from them and they are great to do business with and your girl will come home safe and sound. :)

    13. No items of this seller can be found anymore. Strange, strange...

Thank you all again for your help ^^ In case that I decide for this girl: I'm going to buy her directly.

    14. It looks like they fixed everything we discussed: a better photoshopped image of shipping times, real name of doll was listed, price was slightly raised as to not look too suspicious. Urgh... definitely trying to cover themselves. I hope someone doesn't fall for it..

    15. I have contacted the seller to see if they will tell me which company makes the dolls.

    16. I don't know about the legitimacy of the seller, but I do want to mention that many legitimate companies severely overestimate the length of time EMS will take to ship something. I think the two times I've had something coming from Luts, they've said I can expect my package about ten days after shipping--and both times it's arrived in four days or less. I remember hearing about that from friends before I bought my first doll, too--the company may say over a week to ship, and the doll still arrives in a few days. So don't assume they're not using EMS just because they give a long arrival estimate.

    17. Hi :) we revived an old thread to keep the history of the seller alive but the current issue is the new auctions that show Volks heads and possible AoD bodies for only $280 BIN and they talk about choosing a skin tone for the production - as if the seller is producing the Volks heads and AoD bodies.

Here is what the seller had to say when I asked them which company makes the dolls they are selling:

"we can say this is the own brand
the bodies is made by the professtional factory in ShenZhen in china by our OEM process and then we make-up them by our company. at now we are preparing the decoration of doll like eye, clothes as our brand
any questions please feel free to contact to me
thank you for interesting for our BJD "

    18. The prices are cheep, but they look like Volk's dolls, and he only has 6 feedbacks.
Does anyone know anything about them.
Sorry Mods if this is in the wrong place.

    19. I was wondering the same thing. I ran across an auction just now that has what looks very much like an AoD body with a Volks head on it. I can't imagine someone selling such a combination for that price, so I'm... concerned.

Here's just one of the auctions:
      http://cgi.ebay.com/1-3-BJD-Doll-Fantastic-Male-Version-Two-Hui_W0QQitemZ270290636238QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item270290636238&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A3%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

There are a bunch of auctions, this though was the one that most clearly shouted 'Volks head!" to me. $280 for this? Cheap indeed!

ETA: Oops, looks like there's another thread discussing the same thing: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=227060

    20. Wow. I remember seeing a lot of those heads on Y!J. The ones I recognize were all artist customs that were sold by the artists themselves and it goes without saying that they went for a lot more than what this ebay seller is asking for. Actually, now that I'm looking, closer, they didn't even crop the watermarks on some of the pictures, so you can still see that "Rain" is actually a custom School A by Hiyohiyo Emotion. What a crappy scammer!

Oh, and just for fun, here's one of the pictures I saved off of the original Y!J auction :

    21. And most (if not all) of the Volks head pictures they're using were stolen from artist's Y!J auctions/websites so if someone were fooled into buying one, that's definitely not the face-up they would be getting with their illegally recast doll hybrid thing.

    22. So seriously, how do we go about reporting for fraud because this makes me a bit nauseated to see. I really hope no one falls for it.

    23. They don't just look like Volks molds, they are! All of those pictures were stolen from the legitimate custom artists who painted and sold these heads on a japanese auction site. What's even funnier to me is that about 80% of these so called "original molds" are School As with different face-ups/slight customs, but are presented as being distinct sculpts.

Since the pictures are not legit, I really wonder what a hypothetical buyer would end up with if they were to purchase one of these dolls. (Most likely, nothing.)

    24. no, the pics are all stolen, i doubt they even recast anything. i dont know if youd even get anything if you bought one

    25. There's a "report this item" link at the bottom of each auction page. I've reported them as being replica/counterfeit items, but there might be a better category (like, outright scam).

    26. This is a great idea - I'll report them too.

    27. I read the other thread. Yes it looks like this is a scam. I can't believe the auctions are still up.

    28. I went and reported a few of them too!

    29. there's a whole thread about this person...been going on for a while now

    30. What I did not see this. This person is selling counterfeit. Photos of dolls are also stolen from famous artists. DO NOT BUY! They probably don't even have anything to sell to you to begin with and has a bogus feedback of 6 at the moment.

All this talk about them selling hybrids is bull. So upset right now oh my goodness. -_-|||||||||

    31. In my experience it takes eBay a few days to respond to a report

By the way I wrote to Volks yesterday and gave them a head's up. They're looking into it too.

    32. unfortunately, ebay is not likely to do anything just on our say-so. The company whose sculpts are pirated, and the artist whose faceup pics are being used will have to report it in order for ebay to even look into it.

    33. It's weird...I can't select anything when I click File a Report....I hope ebay has received enough reports to put down all the auctions from this pirate doll seller. I feel so angry for this.

    34. It does that for me too. I tried reporting from eBay's "contact us" page and it doesn't work either so I think the function is down ...

    35. I'm really getting sick about these fake dolls..
WHY THOSE COMPANIES ARE STILL ALIVE!!!!

      I cannot select anything either.
It seems that Ebay's having problems?

    36. enyka, if you (or anyone else) has yj links that should help - definitely send them to ebay

as for the reporting, it no longer works if you are using Opera or Firefox. I haven't gotten it to work in several weeks now.

    37. Thanks for heads up! Let's move everything to that thread. Sorry for double posting.

    38. i saw these on ebay and i imidiately recognised the aod body, so i went over here too look if there was a tread as id didn't recognize the face sclupts, and didn't know for sure they were copied...
too bad they are copies i really like these two

      http://cgi.ebay.com/1-3-BJD-doll-Fa...photoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

      http://cgi.ebay.com/58cm-1-3-BJD-Do...photoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

anyone knows of wich orginal sculpts these the copies are of (especially the second link)? i really like them and i rather buy orginals ...i really hate those bootleg copie companies, it makes buying something on ebay without a lot of research really hard...you never know if something is copied, and not evryone knows all the sculps out here

    39. lamira: The first one is probably a Volks SD10 Kun and the 2nd one is a Volks School Head A ?

      - - -

I have a question, just to clarify, is this a modded Volks Sweet Dream School Head A?

    40. Yep, by Musée Noir
      [IMG]
(I compulsively save things off Y!J :sweat )

I've tried reporting again so I could send the link of the original auction / artists website, but it doesn't work in any of my browsers... (safari, IE, firefox)

    41. omg... =_= if only these were not fake. I'm all over the modded sweet dreams school head a.. thanks for letting me know enyka...

    42. well i'll be darn

    43. I don' tunderstand- why is wrong to buy a copy? Is it not cheaper? I'm a real newbie in case anyone couldn't tell- I just started here two days ago... :(

    44. It's wrong because normally the resin can be made with sawdust and break easier, while sometimes actually being TOXIC. Also, fake dolls are not allowed here on the forum.

Fake dolls steal talented artists' work and give money to some scumbag who is unoriginal and dishonest.

    45. Isn't the 2nd one by ctb? Channel Toy Box? I think that is F16. 1st one is Kun.

      http://www.eonet.ne.jp/~channel-toybox/

    46. Teruchan - You are right that it would typically be cheaper to buy a knock-off doll (or of anything, for that matter).

But try and think of how copies usually are. Let's take most boot-leg movies. Generally, they are lower in quality as well as illegal. Knock-offs of brand name handbags. Not illegal in some places, but same thing. Lower in quality, and of course, resell value. These dolls are expensive, and even the copies are expensive. Though, with the original, you will usually get what you pay for. With a copy, you may be in for some nasty surprises. It is also unlikely that the doll would be able to be sold again for the original value. Pictures could hide the fact that it's a fake, but should a buyer discover that after receiving it, you can imagine how that would turn out.

If you buy a copied doll, you run a health risk. Resin is toxic and if the appropriate measures are not taken, you may get sick from the powder. Some symptoms that I have read run to severe headaches and rashes.

Buying a copy is also disrespectful to the original creators. Ball-jointed dolls can be considered (and are by some) a type of art. If you copy someone else's art, it takes away value from the original piece as well as encourages others to make copies as well. While the original dolls can be more costly, at least you know what you are getting -- an original piece of work hand crafted (and generally lovingly crafted as well).

Ball-jointed dolls aren't just factory made bits like some toy dolls would be. They're sculpted from someone's imagination and made real. Taking that idea and claiming it as your own to make a profit, well... I hope that explains what all the hullabaloo is about at least a little.

    47. Yikes. I fell.

    48. I would cancel the transaction if I were you.
