Eeek! 8 more days until the release of 45cm Aphrodite girls, the wait will be excrutiating! Can't wait to see all their lovely faces and stylings.

 

The bodies look really good on instagram! Very Renaissance lady looking to me. But most importantly- FLAT NIPPLES ! omg after getting doll after doll with nips to poke an eye out I never expected to be so excited to see a doll like this. I wasn't planning on buying any more dolls for a while (kind of splurged this year) but I am really digging this design!

 

I love the Aphrodite body too! And I love that it seems that they will offer it with quiet alot of their SD head molds. I really like Luthien, but I am so out of room for bigger dolls that I didn´t buy her. A mini Luthien would be far more convenient!

 

I’m looking forward to buying one of the Aphrodite girls, they are breathtaking!

Looks like all the dolls are up and ready to order. I like the styling on Yvonne. Yu looks good too. I don't really do "modern" so I'm a little disappointed, especially since Luthien looks so good in SD size. Maybe this event isnt for me, I'll wait for an elf earred or at least more fantasy version .

 

So, I finally decided and just bought Luthien in peach cream. I really loved the big Luthien, but since I am seriously out of space, she wasn´t an option. MSDs can still be squeezed in between somewhere ... And since I love the new Aphrodite body, I was very happy to see her mold offered too. Only the skintone gave me a hard time, I hope I chose the right one. Got the Serena outfit for her too, since I am not sure if FID clothes will fit her - at least she has something to wear then.

 

I just bought a Yvonne yesterday, she will be my first fashion sized doll!

 

Grats! She is the most beautiful of all their sculpts imo

I would have loved if they had released an Elven Luthien, I would have bought her in a heartbeat!

 

My Jude arrived on Christmas Eve, but I still need to make him a wig...

@Kaname Kimura The pictures of MSD Luthien were rather not convincing ... I went with the pictures of her big sister. I hope it were just the angles when photographing her that made her look so unappealing. But I didn´t like the pictures of any of the Aphrodite girls, except Yvonne. And since I have a MSD Yvonne and know how she looks I hope that I will like Luthien despite of her promo pictures.

 

I love your Jude @MB Lilac !! Can't wait to see him all wigged up in your photos. Mine can't get her quickly enough! And I ordered Joshua on long lay a way in the Christmas sale.
@Ashemanu I really like Yvonne's face too, but I'm not sold on the Aphrodite bodies, so am going to wait and see owner pics of the girls before splurging on one.

 

@Ashemanu & @JinCIncy - Thanks. He's going to become my version of Braveheart, with long, dark blonde hair. At least that's the plan. Right now he's just wearing some spare outfit pieces from my FID guys, since I'm not a fan of having naked dolls standing around.

I was really impressed with him. I love his elbow joints. He has an extra swivel motion in his elbows that will make it possible to do way more realistic poses. I also thought it nice that SartoriaJ included a set of dressing balls.

 

@MB Lilac - Your Jude is wonderful. And I believe the elbows you are referring to are on the Pose Plus body. I don't know if they are on the other body.

I also have a Jude on the Pose Plus body. ( I guess I forgot to show him here yet.)

I'm naming him...Vidar. I have photos of him with a short wig that is working out very well so for.

@luluna - I wasn't familiar with the options, since Jude is the first doll I've ever ordered from them. I just assumed 'Pose Plus' meant he'd come with a mobility joint' in his upper leg. I had no idea it also included that elbow joint.

 

@MB Lilac - Yes, that elbow joint that allows the 'twist' is only on the pose plus body. It was the reason I also went for that body. It's a nice feature that I use most.

 

@Ashemanu The pictures of the bigger Luthien are much nicer than the smaller version, same goes for Naomi.

I wonder did anyone order one of the other sculpts during the summer introduction sale of the 51cm guys? I haven't seen any other doll but Jude thus far in owner pictures.
I can certainly understand why..................I have Jude coming too, I do love many of the other guys as well and have ordered Joshua in the current sale. I've loved seeing all the Jude pics though! He's certainly a handsome sculpt!!

I went for Joshua! This is just a box opening photo, but I was really impressed by the sculpting and the faceup. He makes a good evil duke, I think! Those clothes will end up on my Jude-on-an-IH-body, but for now, I think Joshua will keep them.

I ordered 51cm Jarrad months ago, but he's still waiting to ship unfortunately. I guess SartoriaJ are waiting for the festive season to be over before posting? I am so looking forward to his arrival though.

Lessyface, your Joshua is gorgeous! Please do you have any closeup photos or a blog to see more of this handsome guy? I'm wishing I could have afforded that amazing outfit now His hair is superb for that look!

I made my guy a wig, although I've decided not to try trim and style it until after he gets his outfit. Then I can decide just how rugged I want him to look...

Is that a crochet or hard wig cap? I made my very first wig the other day, from a Monique stretchy 6-7 wig cap and sewed on mohair wefts. Rofl is all I can say, haha! When my mini Aphrodites and Jarrad arrive they may have to wear hats... But I shall keep persevering. I even attended a 3-day doll wig making course many years ago, so I guess now I've got the first one out the way after all this time, things might get better.

The 51cm mens' wigs have to be a lot more precise though, don't they. Your Jude's wig is a great colour and texture too.

@LilyAndRuby - Thanks. It's a hard cap wig. I've never been so nervous making one on someone with a faceup before. I sew wefting from Angora mohair locks that I've had in my stash for thirty years, and hot-glued them on, one tiny bit at a time, paying careful attention to the natural waves in the hair. I haven't done any trimming at all yet, since I want to see how he looks in his outfit first - once I make it. I do have a tutorial on my website for making a hard cap wig - Hard Wig Cap Tutorial. Unfortunately it's pretty much impossible to explain how one selects the curve of the mohair when gluing it on, but here's the basics on adding the actual mohair - Hard Cap Wig - Tutorials

It's not too bad once you get used to it. In fact I've changed my technique to just wrap the head with one or two really long narrow strips of the tulle, and then soak the wig cap area with the glue. It's a lot easier than dealing with all those tiny loose pieces. I just trim it afterwards into a proper wig cap.

I was wondering how my Jude would look in one of my Iple knight's outfits, and decided to go the lazy route and just do a head swap....

I must confess, if I were to get one of the boys it would be Jude as well lol. I really like the look of the aphrodite bodies, but I don't feel strong about the gals faces....maybe Yvonne, I like her little teeth. I even kind of like the flamenco set.

 

I love Yvonne's face............I'm just not sure about the girls bodies. I want to wait and see owner pictures before I jump on that train. I'm also anxious to see the elves Jay said are coming in the spring.

Since changing outfits is as easy as switching heads, I tried him in something else....


I think he will need a SartoriaJ lady friend, but can't say I like the new bodies. I hope we can get a choice in the future.

 

@MB Lilac Maybe they will make a "slimmer" SJ female body in future with less junk in the trunk. Nothing wrong with curvy, but the SJ women are curvy enough on the bottom I worry it will affect their ability to share with my Iple and RD ladies, and that's one of the main reasons I didn't spring for one in the holiday sale. I love Yvonne's sculpt and may still get one in future, but I would prefer a slightly slimmer hipped version. Jay did tell me he was planning on doing elves in the 51cm/45cm size in the spring, so maybe a new more slim body will come out with those?
Your Jude is SO handsome!! I got word mine shipped yesterday and I'm anxiously awaiting him!!

By the way, anyone know if Jay at SJ is a man or woman?

Wow JinCincy that's great news about the springtime elves. I agree, a slimmer body style would suit them well. I must admit though, that I love the 45 Aphrodite bods and am looking forward to mine arriving. I like the old 18th/19th century fashions, and I'm hoping their natural shape may well eliminate the need for cumbersome panniers and bustles underneath voluminous skirts

 

@LilyAndRuby I will look forward to seeing your girl here on the forum. I really am looking forward to seeing owner pics of the girls. And good point about the bodies being conducive to 18th/19th century fashions. I love those styles too!

I really like the texture your tiny wigs have. I've been using yarn but I really want to get some natural fiber for a rugged wig like that!

 

Thanks. I use mohair locks that I got years ago from a woman who raised Angora goats especially for doll hair. I find the fibres have a more natural look than purchased wigs, especially for my guys. I can't say I enjoy making the wigs, but I do love the look, so make the effort to do it.

@MB Lilac I am totally in love with that outfit, in my amateur eyes it couldn´t be any more perfect. Especially the tartan - it must be hell to get a fabric with such a tiny pattern. Simply wonderful!

@Ashemanu - Thanks. I have a whole box full of tartan fabrics, but most were purchased for the larger dolls, so were too big scale-wise for him. Unfortunately it's impossible to buy fabrics in person these days, so I had to go with something in my stash. I ended up choosing this one, which started out as a gold and black plaid, but I had over-dyed it with blue, when I was trying to create a 'Fraser' tartan for an Outlander character. So it had the perfect grungy colour. I made his under tunic navy blue, just so there's a bit of a contrasting colour.

Here's a full length photo. He's borrowing the sword from one of my OOAK sculpted dolls (MacBeth) who has a similar costume, but with a MacBeth tartan...

 

Introducing my Jarrad 51 who arrived yesterday!


He is my first ever SartoriaJ to arrive.. or, should I say, the first I completed instalments on !!
Now here's a thing.. I shall have 2 more small SJ girls on the way eventually (saying that calmly, but Can't Wait!) BUT I haven't ordered eyes with them, so there will be no Eye Putty with them

For Jarrad, being the special guy that he is, I permanently borrowed the eye putty from one of my floating head girls, as he needed good putty.

What white putty is best for these beautiful SJ dolls? I don't want too sticky or too solid, as I like to change eyes occasionally, and I certainly don't want it to ruin their resin over time. Any suggestions/recommendations please?

I have never had a BJD come without eyes before, so putty has never been an issue before. Also, when he arrived his right-eye's eyelashes were not fixed in properly, so he looked like he was winking! This didn't get any better when I started choosing eyes to put in, so I took the eyelashes out completely. They were a bit long and lush for him anyway, but I've kept them.

On the positive side - Oh my! How fabulous and classy is the SJ box and packaging! It even smells beautiful!
