SartoriaJ Mini Part II

Aug 19, 2023

    1. Ah! There she is :)
      Lovely!

    2. The bustle gowns are gorgeous. Does anyone know if the Eternity Vampire collection clothes are sold separately for the MSD like they are selling the SD size clothes alone? Or does one have to buy the complete full MSD Set to get the clothes?

    3. @Dollibird - I don't think any Eternity collection clothes are available for the MSD sized dolls at this time.

    4. Thank you for confirming this. Shame, because those dresses are gorgeous.

    5. Another handsome hunk from SJ! :D:love
      Congrats!!

    6. I noticed that the SJ website no longer has SOLD OUT under all their standard dolls. I'd love to get Sarah but am going to wait to see if they have a holiday event.

    7. My Evelyn arrived yesterday! She looks so very classy to me, like a movie star from the golden age of cinema! I named her Saran, which means moon in Mongolian if Google is to be believed ;)

    9. @Ashemanu - Oh she's a beauty! And I love the knitted cardigan/wrap you have on her. Did you make it?

I got my Evelyn and also have her in blonde hair (it was a wig on hand) and I really like her in it. I need to find something for her to wear.

Edited to add: I took a quickie photo.:whee:

    10. Both Evelyn’s are so beautiful!!! They really do have a classic movie star look, don’t they?

      • x 1
    11. @luluna Thank you! A friend knitted/crocheted the wrap, it´s a small wonder. I could never do something like that! Her wig was a lay-around too ... I am still thinking what I would like for her. Have to look at hairstyles from the 20ties til 60ties.
@morganatron Thanks and yes, they have :)

I asked Jay, they are preparing clothes for SDs and MSDs up from middle of November. Which would be wonderful since I seriously don´t know where to get clothes for them after PABA Doll closed their shop on etsy.

    12. Can we post the la poupee dolls in this thread?

      • x 1
    13. I am so happy they did the Nutcracker dolls in this size!

I think I La Poupee dolls are fine for this thread. Especially since there is one in the Nutcracker set.

    14. I really like Heather. She reminds me of a Scandinavian super model (not a specific one, just the general type) :)

    15. Congratulations on the arrival of a true beauty!! Your Saran is incredible!!! :aheartbea:aheartbea:aheartbea

    16. How secure is Sartoria J's website? The address bar lacks a lock or https, but the shopping cart and sign in page both said they're secure. The December mouse doll caught my attention, but I don't want to risk my personal information.

    17. Although I lurk on this thread as I haven’t yet taken the SartoriaJ plunge and always thought it’d be one of the boys I went for I’m quite tempted by Gemma as she reminds me of a young Milla Jovovich.

    18. The arrives-before-xmas La Poupee mouse has sold out. It was nice of them to have some dolls ready to ship!

    21. Wonderful picture! Did you make the skull in the sand?

    22. @morganatron - Thanks! We went down to the beach so many times for this story, but it was so worth it.
@nancy_schroeder_ca - Thanks! No, I found that skull at Value Village in their Halloween section back in September. I immediately had all kinds of photo ideas, so bought it.

    23. Hi - friends and lovers of SartoriaJ BJDs ^_^ My order from Kate (Daphne 44) and Benedict (N51 ATH) arrived on Monday. Ordered on October 29th but without face-up - still very fast! But I think it was a bit too fast - I have some quality problems. On Kate, the head cap doesn't fit so well, but the dividing line disappears under the wig. The gap between the knees in the area of the "kneecap" is slightly large/larger than that in the back of the knee.
But the bigger problem I have with Benedict is his elbow joints. If I bend/angle my arms at the elbow and then straighten them again, the rubber bands get stuck in the gaps and the joint becomes blocked. It seems that the rubber on the arms is too thick. But it could also be that the gaps for the rubber are too small. The gap for the rubbers is not straight but tapers towards the ends.
Does anyone else have the same problems with the N51 ATH body? I am grateful for feedback on this topic.
      Thanks for the attention <3

    24. @JL_The_Lion I'm sorry there seems to be some issues, thats always a bummer! I'm afraid I always order the 1/3 sizes, so I can only speak to those. Do you have any pictures of the issues you could share? Maybe someone who regularly orders the 1/4 size can share their experience.

    25. Thank you very much! <3
      I will contact SartoriaJ directly.

    26. I have the same issue with my new Matias with the same body as yours, for now I solved it by avoiding bending his arms XD Pls post what Sartoriaj tells you. I kinda thought it was only my problem by doing something wrong with him...

      • x 1
    27. Thank you for your feedback. I'm relieved that I'm not the only one who feels this way. But it's also a shame that there is such a problem with the beautiful N51 body. I will publish SartoriaJ's answer here.

    28. I will say in my opinion Sartoriaj bodies lean more towards prioritizing aesthetic rather than poseability. But I'm usually more concerned with aesthetic so works for me haha

    29. Hi - back to another place. I don't understand why but it doesn't matter

I wrote an email to SartoriaJ and after the weekend I received a very quick reply :-) Sartoria is very accommodating :thumbup

Here is the answer to the problem with the elbow joint on the N51 body:

      Elbow Joints

We customize elastic band from a subcontractor and band size is slightly different from time to time.
This time we got a slightly thicker band but we didn't think it would be a problem.
If you can resting the dolls, I will send a thinner band and a new elbow joints so you can exchange it with a new one.
It will take about a week and I will send it within this week.

      A very excellent service!

I will thank Sartoria for this. As far as a quick replacement is concerned, I'll try to have the parts shipped with one of the two remaining deliveries. No rush - I have time.
Given my hobby and the distant production locations, I feel guilty anyway. High CO2 emissions for the pleasure...

    30. Wow, that's great, thank you! I will contact them too. I've never done restringing, but it shouldn't be that hard, right :sweat Sartoriaj also has pretty nice restringing guide with pictures, time to put it to use.
Aand photo of Matias because he is so handsome. Now wearing purple.
Ohh, maybe he will pose better with new elastic string too...I bet he will.

      • x 6
    31. He is so very handsome indeed!!!! :D

      • x 1
    32. Oh wow - what a sight! Matias in the purple shirt is breathtaking! Congratulations on this dream :love
Yes, the SartoriaJ instructions are very well done. To help me pull, I use the old, out-of-fashion parcel tie, mostly made of hemp fibers. It doesn't cut into your hands so much and the natural material gives you a good grip.
Good luck with Sartoria and also with stringing with new rubber :thumbup

    33. That purple's a great choice.

    34. Matias is so breathtaking! I can also vouch that SartoriaJ has excellent customer service. They work quickly and provide reasonable solutions or compensation.

I really like the look of the new David body. I wonder how posing compares...

    35. Is anyone planning on ordering any of the new celestial dolls? I'm so tempted to order Stella in midnight blue but I just keep going backwards and forwards with it. I really wish there were owner photos to help me decide. I love the face up but would like different colour lips, would I get custom face up and choose no face up on the order page?

    36. I saw too late that they were also offered in 1/4 size, otherwise I maybe would have chosen a small Stella. But too late now :D

Yes, you would chose no face up with Stella and the custom face up extra. Or you could ask Jay if it would be ok to just write a comment under order comments, if you just want the color of the lips changed. I did that before, and it worked.

      • x 1
    37. I really love the midnight color, but I'll have to pass because cannot really afford the hefty add-on price (and no characters to use it on). :')

Chiming in to say that SJ's "split elbow peanuts" drive me nuts as well, especially if the doll has to wear long, fitted sleeves. My Demian is on the older Athletic bod, and mygahd his arms just want to snap straight if he's wearing his coat. It's really an engineering issue imo, but I love my guy nonetheless. Here he is getting a little intimate with IH Doria in their indoor garden.

    38. If I could get a SartoriaJ head on a GranadoDolls body, I think that would be perfect.

I sort of get why Jay only sells full dolls but my god, what I would do for a head only sale.

    39. Does anyone have a doll with the David body ordered yet? I'm chomping at the bit for some owner comparison to the older body!

      S. Dean has such cute ears. I wish they had a photo of the face in a regular skin tone. The two limited tones are cool but not for me. If Stellas outfit had a 1/4 version Id be all over it! $200 for her havoc staff is so crazy to me...at least I don't collect 1/3 so that's an easy pass.

    40. Me, just wanting Stella's staff and hair. Haha.

The blue is beautiful. But, I'll budget for a doll maybe next year. I really wanted Joey, this year and I missed her TWICE. :sigh

    41. I’d like to see a photo of the two blue heads in a regular colour too - I love the blue, but it’s not for me, and it’s hard to see the sculpt details or imagine it in a regular colour! Well, not that I’d be getting a new doll this time anyway, but I’d still like to see!

Speaking of bodies… has anyone ever tried a Sartoriaj head on a FID muscle body? It’s too big for the Model neck, but wondering about the Muscle one? I have my Oscar coming with two heads, and I might need to get him an extra body!

    42. Annnnnd I've just placed an order for s Stella on the APH body with a custom face up.

I try not to buy dolls I don't get instant must have vibes from, the weird thing is that when I first saw her I knew I had to buy her but then I went back and forth a few dozen times. So, here's hoping I made the right decision!

I'd really love to get some horns for her, does anyone know of a place that sells them for this size?

      • x 3
    43. Ooh congratulations!!! Hmm, Resinsoul sell a head with horns, they might agree to sell them separately? They’re pretty helpful like that! Leekeworld also sell horns, and you can usually find people that make them on Etsy too if you search, although I can’t think of any specific sellers right now.

    44. @morganatron thanks for the suggestions! I'll definitely check out Resinsoul and Leekeworld! Yeah, I'm on etsy quite a lot and haven't come across anyone who makes horns but I haven't specifically searched horns most times I just search bjd. I know when I first started out in the hobby there used be quite a few people who made things like horns but there doesn't seem to be as many now? Or maybe I'm not looking in the right places.

    45. I just had a look and if you do a search for “BJD horns” a fair few come up - good luck!!! I’m sure there’s more BJD companies that sell them too, maybe someone else can think of some?

      • x 1
    46. @morganatron I've found some that come close to what I want. I really wish SartoriaJ did them in the 1/4 size.

    47. I wish that too!!!

    48. If a bunch of people ask they might!

    49. Edit to add: I just got my invoice :XD:

Does SartoriaJ still send out an invoice when payment is due? I placed my order on the 30th and asked for layaway. I've had a reply basically giving a thumbs up but they haven't sent the invoice for the first payment. Has anyone else received an invoice?

    50. Yes. I just got my invoice and it was a day after the 'yay! you ordered a doll!' notice. So it's coming.

Got this dress for Christmas and Yu got first dibs.

Trying to take more pictures of my dolls but it's so difficult. Does anyone have any tips?

      • x 5
    52. Lighting is important and you can do it surprisingly cheaply. I mostly use my sewing lamp and some of those ringlights that are meant to clip on your phone for selfies which I got at my local pound shop. Paper works as a decent cheap light diffuser

      • x 2
    53. Yes, lighting is very important. You want light from several directions so you don't get dark shadows behind the doll. I also recommend no flash.

      • x 2
    54. Thanks! I'll look into a ringlight!

@nancy_schroeder_ca thanks, I'll try that. Yeah, I never use flash.

    55. I ALSO recommend a phone sized ringlight. I got tired of one of my bjds photograph being inconsistent and displaying his resin color inaccurately. He's not a Sartoria J, but the Sartoria J resins look pretty.

      • x 1
    56. Thank you for the ring light tips! I hadn't heard of those!

    57. Hi all, I’m wondering if anyone here has a Joshua. Looking to get a fashion size boy from IH, SartoriaJ or Raccoon but can’t decide on the sculpt although I’ve narrowed the list down. Although not as blatantly handsome as a few on my list Joshua seems to have a bit more resemblance to a particular person in some of the photos on their site but I’d like to see owner pics if possible to help make up my mind about him.

    58. @Blodeuwedd - I have an Elf Joshua in PC resin. His nose is definitely his prominent feature. :XD:

    59. @luluna thank you so much for this! He’s amazing and coincidentally that’s exactly what I was aiming for and the skin tone I’d choose which makes this photo even more helpful!
I think his nose lends to the aloof aura elves sometimes exude.

Do they have a particular time of year they release the elven versions or is it a case of wait and see if they do?

      • x 2
    60. @Blodeuwedd - Oh, I'm glad seeing him was helpful! He does have a glorious nose. Quite epic.

I haven't noticed a time of year when they do the elves...it's hard to predict. I noticed right now everything is 'sold out'.:abambi: I don't remember that before. Maybe he got lots of holiday orders and will wait till mid-January for whatever he offers...next. Maybe then some of the sculpts will be made available.
