And while I'm at it - my Jenice with the corset bust in a new Tudor dress I made!!! (Also wearing her new eart of a Fairy eyes). This body is so perfect for sewing historical clothes for, I love it so much! I think I need to alter the fit of the bodice slightly, but I'm pretty pleased with it. Made with Christmas quilting fabric - I love it when you find random things that work for dolls, even when they weren't intended for it!
So I ordered a doll from SartoriaJ on the 1st August last year. In December they told me it would be ready to ship mid January but that came and went without any news. I messaged them mid February and they said she will be shipped within 10 days which has now passed without any news. Is this normal? I've noticed that other people who ordered around the same time as me already have their dolls. I don't really want to keep pestering them but I'd like to know what's happening. Any advice?
No, that´s not normal. Normally Jay is super helpful and open with information. Just keep asking them. But I wouldn´t worry too much, so far everyone here got their dolls in the end
@Loganberry - It is getting more 'normal". I had a June order that came on the last days of Dec. My June order took longer than something I then ordered in July. Wait just a bit longer and I bet it will ship out soon. Jay is usually very good and conscientious.
Thanks for your replies it's made me feel a bit better . I know I'll get her, it's just annoying being told she'll ship and then nothing happens.
@Loganberry I ordered two dolls in May, received one in November and the second one came 5 weeks later. I had thought they would ship together?...
I think different sculpts get sent to different faceup artists...so that could be the reason dolls ordered at the same time arrive separately. I also had that happen to me.
Melissa finally arrived and she was so worth the wait! She's my first SartoriaJ doll and I'm just so impressed. I want an army of them
@Ashemanu thanks, I'm really pleased with the face up. I think SartoriaJ has great default face ups. @bdrlmoe68 thanks! They're actually a pair of default acrylic eyes that came with one of my iplehouse dolls. I'll be switching them for a resin pair eventually. They look brighter than they usually do because it was a really sunny day.
Finding out recently about Sartoriaj from a sale post on Facebook, I caughed up only today with this thread and these dolls are absolutely amazing I am also in admiration with how talented everyone here is, with the beautiful outfits you make, and your pictures making these magnificent dolls stand out, now it makes me wanna get the one I saw
Nice to see another fan of the SJ wagon. LOL. They have been coming out with some fantastic dolls that's for sure. Just curious which one had caught your eye. My favorite is and will be Jude, unfortunately he is no longer made, but I love seeing pictures of him. here is a black and white one of him.
Welcome, also glad to have another convert!!! They're such beautiful dolls, aren't they! I haven't posted my (still unnamed!) Jenice girl in a while, so here she is, in an outfit I made for her. Well, actually, it's an outfit for another doll I don't have yet, I intend to get another SJ girl but the perfect sculpt hasn't come up yet - but her clothes will be ready when it happens! I'm also waiting on a Phillip, ordered him in December. Looking forward to making some boys clothes too!!! Hoping he gets here soon, but I think the wait time is around 6 months at the moment - anyone know for sure?
I fell in love with Ella in the MSD series with the company faceup. I love how natural-looking she is, there is something also very peaceful about her that is exactly what I love But just after posting here, I also found out on their "La Pou Pée" line and I love how poseable the body is ! I haven't really fallen for one of their releases so far, but I can't wait to see what other characters they'll offer. (to be fair, a perfect match for me would be the Ella head on the La Pou Pée body for her to be a bit smaller since I am not used to MSD anymore but the original body is beautiful as well) I find too bad that we do not see much of the company because they definitely deserve more recognition ! Their work is amazing @morganatron I am speechless, not only are your dolls sublime, but these outfits you make are to die for
Thank you!!! No, I drafted the pattern myself - I've found the corset bust is such a different body shape to any other dolls the same size (including the same SJ doll but with another type of bust!), that any regular pattern doesn't fit, at least not in the top half - so I'm making all her patterns myself! So far I've got that one, which I might also use to make a 18th century style outfit once I work out how to do the skirt, and I'm working on a Renaissance pattern too. Thank you so much too, @Lutopienne !!!
@morganatron - I agree your medieval dress is just marvelous! I love the way you used the print fabric with the black. Just so lovely!
Sorry for double post, but the new MSD limited dolls, Eugene and Emma, have gone up for sale! I have been waiting and waiting for the perfect female MSD and saving my doll money, and as soon as I saw Emma I knew she was the one - I just went ahead and ordered her! So excited!!! Now to settle in for a long wait until she arrives.... Anyone else going to get one of these two dolls? Or their limited outfits?
I am seriously tempted regarding Emma ... especially after watching the new Fallout series on Prime. I like giving my dolls some kind of back story, and she would be nearly perfect for such a scenario.
Ooh that would be very cool, I just finished watching that too! She would work very well in that world!
@morganatron Grats to your incoming girl Since she wouldn´t leave me alone I just ordered her Complete with outfit, face up, eyes and manicure And some underwear too! Now I am rather broke, but happy! First time also that I chose the Mintonette body.
I managed to buy a second hand Yu and I love her. Definitely my new favourite. I was gutted when she was discontinued, so I'm very happy to have her in my collection.
@Crissaegrim thank you! I got the wig from ZergaStudio on etsy. Its size 15cm-16cm, it's not snug but if you use a bit of eye putty it keeps it in place.
I have an Ella, and I love her faceup in particular. I agree, her face is peaceful and almost introspective, like she's got some deep inner thoughts that I'm really curious about. If you ever decide to buy her, I hope you love her straight out of the box, like I did upon first seeing her! I'm still waiting on some components and clothes to arrive before I take her out of the box and take photos. Mine is going to be a redhead like their version of her (hopefully that exact wig will come back into stock and stick around long enough for me to buy one!).
Yes honestly, it would be impossible for me to leave a doll in her box even without having all her customisations, that would too tempting
@MB Lilac - Love your Matias! And his outfit...and his owl is wonderful too. My Edward, Evander... Evander by luluna33, on Flickr
I can finally post here now that I've finished the faceup for my SartoriaJ Demian. I ordered him on the old 51Ath bod before it was discontinued, in Rosewater. I wasn't sure the color would work for the character (a little too pale for my liking), but thankfully it turned out fine! Mini Guórén reveal by Yela Gatchalian-David, on Flickr
She is a bit similar! I'm glad I ordered Emma though, I like her better - but I'm sure others will like Dorothy! Now I'm wondering if they will have a Seconds sale, like last year, of extra, limited in stock dolls. I thought it was June last year, but it was actually Halloween - but I wonder if it might be whenever they have extra dolls? On the other hand, maybe they won't do it again. I was sort of hoping they would, as the thought of not having to wait for a doll to ship would be amazing - but on the other hand, I've spent too much on dolls lately! Still, if they do it later in the year, that's time to save up, I guess?
Yeah! Sartoriaj definitly has a type when it comes to ladies. Dorothy, Emma, Joey, Constance, Camille look like they are related, in my opinion. I like more unique sculpts from them like Vittoria and Lobelia more, they are lovely and have so much character
My favourite is my Jenice. Which I guess is also a similar look, I definitely have a type! Full lips and half closed eyes and I want it every time!
Many thanks @Ashemanu and @morganatron -- he's the fashion mini version of my 75cm Granado Noah, so they have almost identical styles. If one wants to shell out interrelated ladies, SJ's girls would be a very good candidate imo. While I adore their sculpts, it won't hurt to have some variety. I quite miss Sienna honestly, but I couldn't afford her during the discontinuation.
Have I missed something? I just went onto the SartoriaJ Website to browse the 1/4 dolls and they only have 10 standard dolls now. Melissa is missing, and Sarah. Possibly more? Is this normal do they just quietly discontinue them? I did want to get Laura with the cinderella face up so fingers crossed she doesn't dissappear!
Yes, I noticed that too. I had wanted to get Sarah, but she went poof a while back. I had hoped that they took her down in order to reintroduce her as some special character in one of their ongoing series, but no. She's still missing.
Unless I'm mistaken I think they used to have 14 standard dolls. Perhaps that was a bit much for them? But still odd that they were discontinued without notice. Glad I got Melissa when I did!! This might be an unpopular opinion but I feel like the discontinued ones are the best and the ones that remain I'm mostly meh about except for Laura. Not that I don't like the others but just not enough to buy.
Same! I wonder if it's something psychological that we want what we can't have But for reals, I love available sculpts, but some of the ones that were discontinued I love more and would buy. And there is even less sculpts in msd and some choices I can't understand, like why, for example, Paul is in sd and msd, and Mathias sd only(who, in my very subjective opinion not only one of the best sculpts from sartoriaj, but like ever, while Paul is just a good sculpt).
I ended up getting my human Jude very suddenly when they announced his discontinuation. I'd planned on getting him because he's my favourite of their sculpts - although I agree with Fyrwenn that Matias is also absolutely beautiful - and I didn't want to miss him. I would genuinely love to know what's going on behind the scenes and why the choices on who stays vs who goes and why who is in which size are being made. Not in a particularly critical way, I'm just really curious
@Fyrwenn possibly psychological cause I could have bought every one of the original girls, Naomi, Vittora (I know that's spelt wrong ), Yu (luckily found her 2nd hand.) But I always thought Naomi was super popular, like everyone always loved Naomi. @Crissaegrim yes I would too! Like just genuinely interested. I'm assuming it's based on sales, so it would be interesting to know which sculpts sell the most. Or maybe it's based on time, like each standard sculp is available for a year or something? If I knew then I could plan who to buy next
