Sartoria J Design Group - Part 3

Jun 26, 2023

    1. I have a cocoa brown 64 mtn with dew bust (small)
I have Iplehouse Carina, Bibiane, Aaliyah, Lahela, Asa, Rania, Ashanti, Rexy, then I have Iple elves Aurora & Grace. which one would you like to see on that SJ body?

      • x 1
    2. @susieagent99 thanks!! Oh, Aaliyah would be good to see. Thanks again :)

    3. ;) welcome!

    4. Anyone have wig maker recommendations for SJ ladies? In particular, modern medium length wigs and curly updo styles.

It's a pain in the butt to wait for my craft supplies to arrive before I even attempt to make anything

Would be nice to find some ready-made wigs that surely fit well out of the box

      • x 1
    5. @sageyufi Almost all the wigs for my dolls are made by SophyMolly - she is very easy to work with and the quality is great. You can find her here: https://www.instagram.com/sophymolly/

She is from Russia which makes payments with Paypal impossible, but so far there were always other options. But you will need a credit card.

And the wigs are made to order, but they are totally worth the wait.

    6. Just read the body swap posts here. My Sarah, which I love alot, is on a 64 MTN-body which is directly from hell. She cannot sit, there is something wrong with her tighs. Ok, she can sit with legs outstretched, which takes far too much space. The moment I bend her knees they turn outwards while crossing her ankles, which forms a very awkward triangle. And looks horrible.
I am thinking of putting her head on my SID Kaliยดs body, and Kaliยดs head on the MTN-body, since she is mostly standing. Skin color is very similar. Thankfully my MTN Stella doesยดt have this problem, but I chose her with the mobility function. Maybe that makes all the difference.

    7. @Ashemanu Oh my gosh, thank you! Their wigs look exceptional and I see just the styles I need! Curls, glorious voluminous curls!

I have the 64 MTN solid type and she sits natural with her knees bent, thighs together. To my delight, she can also cross her legs by the ankles and over the knees looking nice enough just so long as something supports her back so she doesn't fall backwards. Could it be a stringing problem with your Sarah's body?

The one thing I don't like about Cori's body so far is the double jointing at her knees not locking in place very well because of the shallow grooves.

    8. what size would you say the big dolls come under in terms of clothing?
Ive seen a cute pair of jeans but the only sizes it states is SD13/SD16. I want them for my 59cm Evelyn, but dont know what size would be perfect

      • x 1
    9. @jp_bestie SJ ladies are in the category of โ€œBig Girlโ€ in the Chinese marketโ€”known for their fuller bodies. Their closest similar fit is Iplehouse dolls and possibly clothes for other big girls like IMPLDOLL. For the 59 DPN I think the Iplehouse equivalent is SID size. Make sure you compare measurements though.

On a curious note, could anyone tell me if SJ ladies can fit into SJ menโ€™s pants?

      • x 3
    10. @sageyufi Thanks for the tip with the stringing! I just checked, it looks ok to me. Also when she sits with straight legs, her feet point automatically outwards. There is no way I can move them in any direction, the whole leg blocks any movement. This cannot be right. I took pictures and will contact Jay this evening. I donยดt think I will get a solution though, it probably will be my fault one way or the other. I just know I am very unhappy with this girl for months now.

      • x 1
    11. 1) Try removing her head, using a hook tool or piece of strong string/leather/ribbon, hold the body tight (with your legs/or have a helper) pull up on the "S" hook and rotate, the elastic may be twisted. Sometimes while removing the head to dress, you turn the "S" hook and the elastic gets twisted, and you need to rotate it back a few turns.
      2) Hold the upper part of body, and pull each leg, and rotate a turn or two. The elastic may be twisted from the waist down.
      3) remove 1 foot, insert a strong pencil/pen/small screwdriver tool through the elastic, and turn a couple of times, put the foot back on, and try the position you want. If that doesn't help, do the other foot as well, and try the position you want.

The 2 elastic cords that runs from the "S" hook inside her head goes all the way to her feet, if there is any twisting going on, it affects the legs movement.
What your describing is a problem with "twisted" elastic.

    12. @susieagent99 Thanks for explaining! I just restrung her, completely. The problem persists, the moment I sit her down her knees and feet turn outward. To me it looks as if that is the only position that her upper thigh ends can move in the hip sockets. I feel so stupid and frustrated right now. I am in the hobby for 19 years and have restringed countless dolls. And I simply cannot figure this out.

    13. (scratching head) Hmmmm
Take photos/video and ask Jay over at SJ.
Write a Q&A telling Jay the problem, and tell her that you'll send her a email and attach a video so that she can see.

    14. I have never been happy with dolls that are strung with the elastic crossing at the hip.

      • x 4
    15. Crossing at the hips? The strings go straight from the S-Hook at the neck in their respective legs. There isnยดt any crossing anywhere. Maybe that is the problem?

EDIT: YESSS!!! That solved the problem! When I crossed her strings above her thighs it finally worked! Thank you all so much for your help! I would never have figured it out otherwise! Thatยดs why I love this community :love:love:love Finally I can enjoy her :dance

    16. @Ashemanu haha so glad you figured it out, its funny how even an offhand comment from the community can be so helpful sometimes!

    17. Queen Amara, my Natalie 59 DPN came home!

Handling Cori for a month, I was shocked the 59 DPN feels so much smaller by comparison lol
I love the sculpted softness of her limbs, especially her hands.

The 64 MTN by contrast is leggy and fashion doll-like which I love for her broader shoulders, curvier frame, and of course the height difference!

    19. @sageyufi Your girls look great, can't wait to see them with finished faceups!

@luluna He's so handsome!! I love his slightly brooding air

      • x 2
    20. @luluna He looks so expressive - love the angle. The picture screams elvish to me, but that is probably the hair ;)

      • x 2
    21. @Wittyilynamed - Thanks! He seems rather, serious.:)

@Ashemanu - Thank you! He does look otherworldly. He has the human ears...but who knows. :XD:

      • x 1
    22. Looks like we got a glimpse of Colette and Louis! They're on the site but not for sale yet. I love them both, but I THINK I'm safe so far! (but that could change, as I've said that the last 5 times I ended up buying .)

      • x 1
    23. Think I am safe too ... I love the theme of the Napoleonic era, but I am not so sure about the face ups of the guys. They look so artificial to me, not really natural. The dress could have seriously tempted me, but since itยดs for the corsett bust, I have to pass.

The bane of BJD collectors

    24. I do have to say, I really love that SJ doesn't shy away from different or strong features, especially on women! Collete is GORGEOUS and one of the features I love is her strong chin! I also love some of the roman noses on the boys. I'm gonna have to sit with them for awhile and decide if I really really need any more SJ dolls this year haha. I am definitely passing on colette even with the temptation, but one of the boys may come home. I still regret not getting Derek

@Ashemanu yeah for once I'm safe from the outfits, as gorgeous as they are the 1800s through 1820s are my least favorite styles of the 19th century haha.

      • x 2
    25. They all look so charming. Collete wants to test my resolve. (I still want a Joey.)
I like staring at these photos and wonder which of the dolls would look good standing next to my dolls.

      • x 1
    26. Collete is amazing, I love how she looks very Sartoriaj but at the same time she has a different character, you can see she is strong willed woman, like an empress. And although her dresses are gorgeous I wonder how she would look like if she have had short hair and dressed in military uniform like the other guys from the collection. Too hot, I think :D

And I love Louis, he has a very interesting face. I am safe for now, thankfully, after no buy resolve ended I have more discipline XD I actually ended my no buy by buying a first lady in my collection, metis doll Violet, she is getting face up now.

Antoine looks similar to Andrew from previous gemini collection, although both are cute, I compare them to my fav blond guy from SJ, tarot Daniel and something is missing in them, idk what, they are less lifelike? Maybe like Ashemanu said, some face ups are more simple now...

      • x 2
    27. I love the whole collection. I can't afford much but I'd like to choose something...The uniforms are glorious. I think I need one (at least). Colette is divine...and her outfit. While it would be nice to have a uniform option for the MSD sizes too...there is really too much temptation for one month! Have mercy SJ. :whee:

The photos of the dolls and theme really remind me of the glory-hey-day of Iplehouse at its finest.

      • x 6
    28. (and I MISS those Iple days) :atremblin:(

      • x 2
    29. Ahhh yes! Iplehouse's best days seem long ago :pout:...It's sad, because they still are among the favorites of my collection.

SJ is surely picking up the slack...and then some. :XD: To stay on topic here is my newly arrived Audrey in Peach Cream resin.

It's funny, I had this wig for ages and never found the perfect doll for it and suddenly I put it on her and it works wonderfully. I love when that happens. :)

    30. @luluna OMG, she is gorgeous! Beautiful picture! Now I wish I had gotten both her and Stella :vein She is so totally lovely :love

      • x 2
    31. Same. I wish SJ will make badass uniforms, armour, or just pants-outfits again soon for the ladies. Vittoria was the peak for having both a beautiful queen's gown and a proper full armour set (and sadly, most regrettably, I hadn't been there during that time).

I want to buy outfits from SJ so badly because they make such gorgeous clothes, but alas they have yet to catch the fancy of my needs :eusa_pray

@luluna Your Audrey is so lovely, thanks for sharing! She definitely has the kindest expression I've seen of all SJ's sculpts

      • x 3
    32. @luluna Love your Audrey's gentle expression and yes, that hair works so well with her!

      • x 1
    33. @Ashemanu - Thank you so much! She did turn out better than expected, so I'm thrilled! :XD:

@sageyufi - Thank you! She does have a kind expression not that you mention it. :)

@Wittyilynamed - Thank you! It is always a fun kick when a long-owned wigs comes in handy and looks so in tune with a new doll. :whee:

      • x 1
    34. I also thought about Vittoria! One of the best Sartoriaj dolls! She has a unique face(and both face ups look very natural and alive) with a character and armour sets look amazing on her.
I agree with people here who like Elliot's face up the most, idk how to explain why, I am not an artist, but it looks more alive to me, style similar to Vittoria's here:sweat
When I started in the hobby I thought face up is not important if the sculpt is good :XD:Sculpt matters more, face up is just to highlight the sculpt :XD: But after seeing many, many dolls I realized how much it changes everything and developed my preferences. Just a fun noob mistake:sweat

    35. I want to join in the Vittoria love! :XD: And her outfit is just awesome!

    36. She is very pretty! Congrats!
I know exactly what you mean about having a "wig" in the collection and waiting for the right doll for it. She looks fabulous in that wig, and the horns? makes it look that much better :love

      • x 1
    37. So im not sure if i can request this, but i'd love to see a satoria big girl next to a feeple65 girl?

I was saved from the current dolls on sale, they're nice but wouldnt fit my current crew. Waiting for the next set of dolls lol

    38. I really would love an Asian/Japanese/Chinese theme, with kimonos and such for some of the next dolls! My wallet would most certainly die an instant death then :love But it would die happy!

      • x 3
    39. @susieagent99 - Thanks! :)

Well, I ordered a couple of the outfits...but couldn't swing a doll at this time. Such a lovely theme...with so much temptation.

    40. received my Dean, please forgive the messy snapshot version... just so excited to share him :love
I'm working on a big tattoo on his chest so his fancy official pics will have to wait

I guess I need to colour the lace front of the wig to blend with his unusual resin colour so it doesn't stand out so much.
If anyone has tips I'd love to hear. I was thinking maybe just dry brushing matched acrylic paint on the lace, since it would be inert once dry. or is it better to stick with pastels?

anyways, this colour is fantastic, I'm so glad to have been able to participate for this edition.
I hope the knickers give you a giggle.

    46. Did anyone receive clothes (not dolls) from the latest elven preorder? I ordered the Isabelle dress set and another in stock dress back in March and haven't heard anything yet.

    47. @Amadiel - I don't think any of the elf clothing or dolls have been shipped yet.

    48. Have sartoriaj had their summer sale already and I missed? :abambi:I have birthday coming up and it's the only time of year when I don't feel guilty spending:3nodding: I wanna see what they have this year before deciding, last year they had such a good one, I got Mathias. I already feel the itch to buy so bad lol...I don't know if I can hold even a few more days :shudder

    49. No, and I am wondering for some weeks about that now. It takes unusually long for them to ship, at least I feel that way.

    50. Hi guys!
So i'm in a bit of a pickle and would love your help^^
I'm looking for a sister sculpt for my malena and cant seem to figure out what doll would be
perfect. I've seen a beautiful custom make up raffine on flickr and think she'd be perfect
but thought i'd ask for help.

      and my malena Layla

      • x 1
    51. A pity Sartoriaj has limited sales, because there is such a good choice for you - Isabelle from Sartoriaj can be great older sister and Maya can be a younger sister, for example. But, Raffine is a great choice too! She is so pretty and she can definitely be Malena's sister, good find :3nodding:

      • x 1
    52. Thank you so much for the recomendations <3
Because of the limited sales and not knowing exactly what the next dolls would look like, i decided to look at iplehouse since they're similar in style.

    53. I ordered just the 2 elf ladies outfits, and I wrote Jay last month, and she said the elf products are taking longer than expected and that they plan to ship in July (I'm still waiting)

      • x 1
    54. Their new theme and summer sale starts July 18th!
They just posted a "notice" & sent out emails with the notice in it. New dolls, new sizes, free shipping!!!

      Mermaid body???
