I updated the fist post (since I can do that) but do we want a theme? Something Valentines related maybe? A red theme? From my recollection, we've had security indoors at Japantown think that we're somehow selling dolls or doll items. And of course they don't allow sales without it being part of an event with permits. We've had security at Yerba Buena think that we are students from the art college doing photo assignments which they did specifically did not allow on the property. I think Westfield didn't want us because our dolls and bags created a safety hazard in case of emergency? Once the security people have decided what they think we are doing, we have never been able to convince them otherwise. The tea party space at Jtown is gone and all the others are in the avenues. In terms of outdoor space, we've met at various areas of GG Park, The Palace of Fine Arts, Alamo Square, Lafayette Park, Michelangelo Park, and way at Stern Grove.
What are we thinking for a March meet? Third Sunday is like the 16th so maybe the 23rd? General spring theming?
Am I allowed to bring a smart doll? I'm still picking out a BJD, so I don't have one yet, but I understand if I shouldn't. Thank you!
If anyone’s interested in carpooling to save on gas/parking/driving/environmental reasons, lmk! I’m by Santa Clara (South Bay), and I can drive &/or contribute to gas & parking.
Oooh, I'm curious which doll drew you into the hobby or how you got into it!! For me (and this was ages ago), it was Dream of Doll, a now closed-down company.
I'm so sorry, but I won't be able to make the doll meet this time, but I'll keep my eyes peeled for the next gathering. Until then, please have fun for me.
I started by watching youtube videos, I liked watching people dress up their dolls. Then I went to a really big doll convention and found Polaris by Elfdoll!
Ooh I'd love some video recommendations! I've heard bili bili is a great place to watch BJD reviews, faceup tutorials, and unboxing videos for cool new BJD stuff, but I haven't toggled around as much because it always asks me to register/login every few minutes ^^;;; Sorry I didn't get to speak more with you today, but it was great meeting you IRL!!
I have proposed it for next saturday if anyone wants to and is able to come, but I think the large bimonthly meets are in a good enough spot for now.
There's literally never been a target and it does happen monthly and bimonthly on and off depending on the vibe lol. There never was a standard here
Originally the target was last Sunday of the month, every other month. At least that's how it was when C was talking about it with J and I, but there was wiggle room so it could be the third Sunday. By keeping a formula it's easier to plan around it. The 11th is Mothers Day which might be an issue for some people. Are we not feeling the 18th? I kinda like that date~~ Maybe a "picnic" theme? We could actually use the mini hill grass area outside of Embarcadero 1 and bring doll scaled picnic blankets, mini food? (not that I follow the theme half the time due to pure laziness) And it'd be nice to do some grass photos maybe? People could also picnic a little...
Ah, right, I am still not on discord at all~ but when MacaronTea isn't around I am also able to update the into in the first post with my mod abilities~ Maybe we can bring some of that planning back to this thread sometimes? Anyone who is brand new to this SF meet might not know about the discord and are relying on this thread~
I thought my bringing it up in here two weeks ago *was* me bringing planning into this thread? I wanted to make sure that those who expressed their opinion on the date in the discord poll also had a voice here because a number of those members don't have access to DoA or are not in this thread. That said, I think a picnic theme sounds cute.
We relay all planning info back onto this thread, don't worry! And the discord group is very open so anyone who sees us mention it here or comes to the meet, we can give them the discord link if they want it! It's very accessible. I think most people who attend the meet are in the discord, so it's easier to plan that way and it's an easier social outlet for those of us in it than strictly planning on DoA, since we get instant notifications and such.
I love a picnic theme and plan to be there on the 18th! Will we still meet at the usual place then walk to the park?
Yeah, the park is literally right outside the doors we meet closest to, so it still makes sense to meet there.
I likely won't be able to make it on the 18th, but I'll be at Fanime if anyone would like to meet up there!
Exhaustion has caught up with me this week, so I'm going to sit this one out. I always like seeing all the Bay to Breakers costumes all over the city too, but I need a day of silence. ;_;
It's been a bad week for allergies! I'm glad I already bowed out, got some bad news this morning so I would have been a mess anyway.
That means I am out as well, staying home with my honey~ also I am just over the flu and gasping for air, pollen would overwhelm me.
Hi all! Just checking in to see if the Botanic Garden meet is still happening? It was mentioned earlier in the thread, but I don't see if we settled on a date or not. Somehow, I remembered it being for Sunday, June 22nd, but maybe I hallucinated that.
Yeah, we're still planning to go! I don't know that we got beyond Arboretum 6/22 1pm. I guess we have to figure out where to gather inside.
Yes, the San Francisco Botanical Garden meet is scheduled for Sunday 6/22 from 1pm to 5pm. I still need to make a detailed schedule for the meet as we will be visiting specific locations.
I am definitely going to this one! I've been so MIA since January's meet? Haha Was this a picnic/summer theme? Am I hallucinating now too?
Hi, discord has been kind of quiet so I came here to see if the botanical garden meet was still on too. I'll be there! though I'll have to leave early, have to catch my train home.
