Please count me in for the September meet! I finally have some free time. I don't quite know which doll to bring yet, but my fallback will be SD16 Diamond
I haven't decided who I'll bring either. lol I know who I'm tempted to bring tho. If anyone has requests, please let me know.
Is there interest for the meetup this Sunday the 22nd? So far only two folks have responded saying they can make it. If we can’t get more than 4-5 folks with interest by Thursday, then we will cancel and try again in November.
Oh, sorry! For some reason I didn't get any updates to this thread and nothing was happening last I checked. M and I can spoop on over, for sure!
So this will basically be our Halloween meetup! Finally a chance to break out the right dolls for the occasion that don't usually fit for any other theme. V----V just went to Dolpa so he's out. So maybe Nathan (K-Doll Khan) will come along. --- If anyone is reading this thread for the first time~ we welcome all new members doll or no doll. You can also bring Off Topic for the forum dolls as long as they are legit~ Feel fee to ask questions if you're new to the hobby! @joanmccarthy10 and @kiraabsol are you down for the meetup? Any interest @JennyNemesis @Grimalkin @Astro @Shopoke @snowleopard @doldrums @fluffmaster @nekkous @CrystalAeluro @Insane-Chan @positivespace @ADuckInATrenchCoat @DayofDiana @cat2hall @BridgetKeely @tsukibun @CutiesaurousRex @Dinnerroll @nekkous @TaShaa There are a lot of old-timers out there hiding around the Bay, we'd love to see you!
@tsukibun - even after all the years I've being in the hobby and going to meetups, I still get the eeeps before going to meet people. But I still have fun when I get there. We just chat, and look at each others dolls. Maybe eat some snacks. I usually take my doll aside for some photo time and so do others. I think it's nice to take the opportunity to do outdoor doll pics without being on your own~
@idrisfynn Thanks for giving folks a poke! I'm excited to see we'll have a mix of new and regular folks. Now if I can just decide what doll I'm bringing. ^^;
Hello! A Halloween meet is a perfect time for me to come out of my lurker shell, so that's a yes for me! I recently started some restoration work on a newly acquired Volks F-12 Miisha, so I'll bring her if I can get most of it done before the meet. If not, then I'll bring a vintage Knickerbocker rubber-faced, plush doll.
I think ill be able to join!! and hope its not too late to say that im coming!! >v< I will be bringing my Volks DD 9S actually second thought i think ill bring freedom teller everett boy instead of 9S lol
Of course not @jwonhot! I was trying to tag you in my @mention post but I couldn't remember your DoA name spelling @___@
Thanks, this is really reassuring I don't think I'll be able to arrange transportation for this time, but maybe soon I will join
@MacaronTea Unfortunately I've come down with something and will have to sit this meet out to be safe but I hope I can make it to a future meet!
if anyone needs foam packing sheets (like to wrap face ups) or thickers ones (1/4 inch) or bubble wrap. Let me kow. I'm trying to get rid of packing materials.
Sadly, I’m not going to make it to the meet today. I’ve woke up exhausted, with zero energy to do anything. Hope everyone has a lovely time and someone can share their lovelies afterwards on the photo thread.
Okay, they did not have the lights on in our little corner of tables, so we went up the escalators and up the spiral ramp to the top to that shaded table area. If anyone feels lost, just go up the spiral 2 times and we're right there
Hey all, as promised, I got a discord server put together for the group. Please feel free to join and invite other bay area doll people to it. https://discord.gg/KrgzeMUWNp
I'd still like to meet up in November, but I can't do anything on the 10th. The 17th would be best for us if that works for the majority??
I'm almost entirely sure I'll be able to make it to this meet - I'll be at the Fluevog swap meet in the morning!
We're heading up to the top floor, up the escalator or spiral walkway. It's dark down in our regular space so we're after more light!
We could pick that date, but with it being winter we may have to play it by ear a bit as the date gets closer. If it's freezing and raining with hail it might be too cold to meet in our usual spot? But at least it does provide shelter!
For me, I'm open to changing locations as long as the new location is also close to a BART station, otherwise I wouldn't be able to make it! But of course if it works for the majority of the group I can always wait until the next available meetup!
Generally, unless we've made reservations at a private space, we've not been allowed to meet with our dolls at indoor locations. SF really doesn't have many free public indoor spaces, those that do exist are usually open Mon-Fri as they are still privately owned. The Embarcadero has been the most sheltered place we haven't been kicked out of. I think that meeting in cafes works in smaller towns, but most places in SF are not comfortable with a group coming in with dolls to hang out. Our group has had a dozen people plus dolls and that really takes up space. Cafes need to turn tables and would certainly expect us to buy enough to compensate for taking up their space for an extended period of time. Even then, no guarantees unless somebody want to scout for a place that would give us prior approval~ Whenever we've tried to meet say, inside Japantown we've been asked to leave. I don't think a museum would allow us with all of our dolls and bags and stuff. If we were just a regular group meeting up without all our hobby gear we'd be okay. Once you show up with bags and dolls, people don't understand what we are doing and security moves in. We used to do private tea parties at this time of the year but that requires pre-planning and fees. I think the place we used to go has changed ownership and now it's like $80+ per person for 20 people to buy out the private room. None of the private tea party spaces are downtown or as easy to get to compared to the Embarcadero... Really, we're better off bundling up and bringing our own hot drinks.
Super insightful and also really disappointing that security tends to move in and kick us out although a group of a dozen doll collectors bringing one or two dolls could look strange to the general public... I wonder if it's mostly because of the group size rather than the dolls? In any case, I'm open to anything! Depending on the weather and if any of my dolls return or come in, I'll bring whoever I can to the meetup!
Yeah, it’s been a very long time since I organized a whole-ass meet inside a place. It’s a whole thing and would require planning to start about now for the next meet to really kick off. As Idrisfynn said, it really cuts down on accessibility to the meet to host one like that. I may still do so in the future as I have some places near me that would potentially be amenable, but it would absolutely cost money up front. that said, maybe it’s also time to scout around embarcadero center for an “enclosed” space that has more light since our counter lights got turned off (understandably) in our original meet up spot. I know there used to be a whole larp game that would meet up in one of the other buildings, but I’m not sure about the lighting/setting up space looks.
I’m planning for the 19th! It’ll be cool, but we’re experiencing a dry winter, so rain isn’t expected.
