Looks like I'll be out of town that weekend..... I am wondering how often the SF meet-up is held. Once a month?
I'm hoping it's a summery theme, not that the weather will necessarily play along. I already know who I want to bring so whatever the theme, I'm bringing Max my LLT Red Dove. I wanna take pics of him before I change him into a new outfit.
Meetup theme for this month: Vacation: Let’s take a vacation together! Do you want to go to the beach or shop in the city? The possibilities are endless! How to decide?!
Hi CrystalAeluro! I haven't gone to a meetup in a while, happy to meet you and hopefully many others at the meetup this Sunday!
Based on the flyer imagery, it looks like it will be right there at the fountain. I am not keen to take dolls to a spot overrun by 5000 people partying. Japantown is hosting Japan day and has Taiko drumming etc, so that's not a great alternative.
Past places we've met are the Botanic Gardens, but that's only free for residents, or Lafayette Park which does have nice bathrooms and views.
We could go to the roof of one of the further Embarcadero Center buildings? I hope the partiers won't want to walk to a rooftop with no view of the show
I just remembered there's this hidden rooftop public park across the street from 2 Embarcadero Center that I don't think a lot of people go to. It's accessible via a bridge from the 3rd(?) floor of 2 Embarcadero Center, next to Patriots Pub. It doesn't have any tables or seating, but it has some steps we could setup our dolls on, along with a delightfully odd horse statue. If the pictures don't load, view them here: Imgur: The magic of the Internet Spoiler: More pictures bridge to park Good horse Fountain Modern art
Well looks like the fun never ends around this location sometimes. Definitely want to move the meet. I’m liking the idea of Lafayette Park, for both restrooms and not dealing with any rave event wandering folks. There are tables and benches at the hill top with shade. If that spot is reserved, then there are other grassy spots in the park we could go. Thoughts from everyone?
I suspect that anywhere in the Embarcadero is still going to be incredibly loud and parking will be scarce. Could mean it's even emptier than usual, but I'm also cool with a change of scenery over at Lafayette. If we bring some meadow mats, we can settle anywhere.
Oh no... not again D: I'm coming from South of Market by the ballpark so hopefully it won't be too bad when I try and head up there! Lafayette Park is super nice, especially for a summer theme, hopefully the weather isn't too windy!
I specifically brought a tan doll with me since I thought we'd be in a nicely covered area Lafayette park might be a bit too sunny for me to be comfortable with taking him.
The top of Lafayette is shaded by trees, and by the time we get there the side facing downtown will be shady too. @MacaronTea Might want to edit the title to alert folks to the relocation
First post all fixed up with location update. So glad the weather looks to be good for a park day. I know I need to update the attendee list, so I’ll be doing that tomorrow. If anyone is coming out and hasn’t posted yet, do let us know you plan to attend.
I will be bringing my Volks Cristal boy this time, I think. For those not familiar with the area, there is a Whole Foods a block away on California St. if you need snacks and drinks.
okay, so, for full transparency: my parents went on a two-week trip overseas recently and have been back for a week. my dad just tested positive, and won't be in the house until he tests negative. i've been masking consistently around them since they got back and just took a test myself (negative). i'm planning to take another the day of the meet, but would anyone be uncomfortable with me being there?
Well, covid is going around here generally, so I think if we still just keep our masks on and test before coming we'll be okay? I have dental surgery next week that I really cannot afford to reschedule so I'm not going to be hugging anyone.
I really appreciate the transparency, Mr. BatBird. In full transparency about myself, I'm still experiencing long covid from a covid case I got back in 2022... So I'm still taking extra precautions and masking on planes and crowded and crammed indoor spaces. I think I could be okay but will probably opt to mask or sit this one out as cases are on the rise again. But let me know what you choose! Again I really appreciate you sharing this so the people who are concerned like me can take the appropriate actions.
I really appreciate the transparency as well! I'm in the same boat as OmitIdentity(long COVID since 2022), so depending on what you decide, I may opt to sit this one out. Normally, I feel pretty safe in an uncrowded outdoor environment, especially masked, but since this current strain seems more transmissible, I want to err on the side of caution!
I would be fine with you going as long as you masked and tested negative the day of. But of course I cant speak for everyone coming as well. Thank you for being transparent!
I know we've been a little relaxed in the past when outdoors in a breezy area, but these meets to state that everyone should be masked by default anyway.
Does anyone know of a close by parking lot to the park? I'm gonna be driving over, willing to pay for parking as well.
As a general standing for all our meets, transparency is greatly appreciated. If someone thinks they may have Covid, has been exposed, or tests positive, I kindly ask you to skip the meetup. For the long term health of our community and peace of mind for all attendees, this is why our meet ups have a request to wear a mask at all times. Regardless of if we are inside a room or outside.
As much as I’d like to see everyone, I think I’ll also be skipping the meet if there’s been an Covid exposure.
Thank you all for your honesty, I’d much rather be sad about missing a meet than make anyone uncomfortable, so I will be sitting this one out. I’ll see everyone next time!
I’ve got a migraine so I won’t be able to make it. I’ll look forward to meeting you all at the next meetup!
The attendee list has been updated and it looks like we are going to have a great turnout. I look forward to seeing everyone and your lovelies soon!
@beachcovewitch I really appreciate your transparency! I'd love to see you but I think it's best to err on the side of caution for now. I hope your family gets better soon and that you don't catch it! @CrystalAeluro Oh no, I hope you feel better soon too. Edit: bringing my Rugged Realism Tresno and Volks SDM-F-35.
I will bring my mask, and I think I will bring Iplehouse EID Luo Strongman. He hasn't been out in ages.
I've just finished packing Zenya ^^ will probably be running 15 minutes behind, but excited to see everyone soon!
I'm by the playground looking for the trees and benches, I'm not as familiar with this park^^; be there soonish!
@MacaronTea can you upload a map pic with a pin? I'm at the top of the hill with trees and benches, but I don't see you guys
We moved down the East side of the hill out of the wind. There is a little amphitheatre seating area with grass in front.
Haha, good thing we relocated. Photos: Free rave draws thousands to the Embarcadero It's too bad the weather was kinda crappy, but it was lovely to see everyone anyway!
What a fun and large meetup that was!! I'm so glad to have met more people in the Bay Area in this hobby at the meetup and can't wait to see you all again next one! ^_^
I don't think @MacaronTea has been on in a week to update the first post etc. We do have to check and see if the city is having another free rave with 10,000 people adjacent to our regular location before we firm things up. But I don't think they announced the last one until a week before hand. hmmmmm
I forgot I'm not returning to the US until the first week of October, would anyone be more open to an October meet? man that rave last time... I have to get through that to cut through the other side of the city so hopefully no raves on the weekend chosen!
looks like there will be an Oktoberfest on Front Street 9/20, so we should be fine later. I haven't seen anything else going on yet.
Getting us back on schedule with fourth Sundays this month. Baring any sudden rave announcements, we’ll be back at our usual spot. Theme: Things that go bump in the night Where: 4 Embarcadero Center (right past the entrance to Harborview Restaurant) When: Sunday, Sept 22nd Time: 1pm
For the rest of the year, as holidays start falling at month ends, my thoughts was to skip October and have a November meet on either the first or second Sunday. Then no meets until perhaps January. Just have to see how the weather is treating us then. It’s a total coin toss on if it’s going to be a heavy rain year or not anymore.
