Thanks for letting me know @Constance If folks need to skip this month let me know, and we can move on to the discussion for October. I was thinking about Sunday the 22nd. Usually I plan for the last sunday of the month, though for October that weekend is usually busy with parties for folks, so I skip it. Let me know your input on if the 22nd works for you.
For next month... October 22 is the day of a local mini con >.< What about October 28th, the next Saturday after that?
A couple of our members are not able to attend events on Saturday’s, which is why we always have our meets on Sunday’s.
Hey all, I've had something come up and I am no loner able to come out on Sunday. I have updated the attendance list (see first post) and currently 2 people say they are coming. The meet is still on, for those who want to hangout together. Whether you are coming out or can't make it, it would be much appreciated if you could drop a quick post with your status. When folks don't post on this thread at all, it comes across as not being interested. As our meetups have been dwindling in size, I may swap to every other month for a bit. So give a shout out and have your voice be heard.
I am also unable to attend this time. I might only be able to make a meet up rarely, but I'm really glad to be on the list and getting the schedule so hopefully a date will dovetail for me eventually. thanks for putting the effort into coordinating everything
Ugh, I totally missed the updates for the Sept meet! Otherwise I'd have been there. St. James and I can't attend in October, we'll be on vacation~
Completely forgot that if you don't visit the thread, the forum doesn't send updates. But I was busy all this month anyway. Winter is difficult since I work retail (they like black us out most of November and December ) but I'd do my best!
Hi everyone~ I've been out of the BJD realm for almost a decade but have found myself newly re-immersed in it! Luckily, I moved from East Bay to SF since I last went to a meet up (2011, I think?). Looking forward to meeting the community in the Bay Area in the next month or so!
Yoooo it'll be fun to meet you at a future meet! I also see a fellow DoD fan so that makes me super hype! Welcome back to the scene
Ahhh! I used to have the Tender Elf Yen... In one of my more recent moves, I seemed to have misplaced him and a modded Husky Head, all from the early 2000s. I'm devastated because I think they both ended up at the Salvation Army or Goodwill in East Bay. Not sure if any of my dolls will be home by the October meetup, but happy to pop by to say hi regardless! And thanks for the warm welcome back
Oh noooo! D: I'd be devastated oml.... Maybe you'll be able to reunite with those sculpts some day Anything could happen to my other dolls but I'd never be as distraught as I'd be for my Dream of Doll Of course dude! Even if you're unable to bring any, it's always fun to meet new doll people! I look forward to it!
Yay~ Really stoked to see people's dolls and chat with everyone! I live somewhat around Embarcadero. so I'm looking forward to being able to walk to a meetup, especially after my car got wrecked by a truck recently. ^^
OOF that's a whole other doozy Makes it simple that it's a closeby meet for sure. I hope that doesn't keep you in car trouble for long though Dx it sounds like a huge hassle. I think you'll have a grand time at a meet! All the meets have had lots of fun chatter that we get lost in until we realize hours have gone by without us noticing x3
That sounds amazing~ I'm so stoked! I'm glad SF-Bay Area has a consistent monthly meet up! Is it usually the same group of people or are there occasionally newcomers like myself?
We've been going consistently since around June and it's been mostly the same general group of people with a few others showing up a few times if they're available. So, a bit of both so far? Seems like there's been at least one new person at each meet o:
Wow, there are that many BJD honbyists here! 0.0 I shouldn’t be surprised, but I am! The one meet I went to a decade ago and found on DOA only had 3, 4 people show up? For some reason, I kinda was expecting that! Glad to hear there are more now!
Heck yeah! The two meets I went to back in 2016 had like 10-15 people each? I remember the regulars at those considered them surprisingly big meets, and I believe some of them are the same people! I haven't been to any again until this year so if the regular meets keep happening, I could see it growing like before. I really like being part of this community.
I'm so excited! Can't wait for the dates to be confirmed - Hopefully it's more towards the end of the month, but from what I gleaned seems like most people are leaning towards mid-October (which I'll try to make!)
There are actually quite a few collectors in the city. It's just really difficult to find a day when everyone can meet since people have a lot of other commitments. Some of the old-timers just don't attend meets anymore, and a lot of the younger crowd moved away. I think the largest BJD meet I went to around here was at the Rose Garden in Berkeley 15 years ago, there were like 40 people and more than 100 dolls. But the average for a while, when we were doing Golden Gate Botanical Garden meets and tea house tea parties was more like 20+ or so?
Wow, that’s amazing!! I think I’ve only gone to a smaller gathering in GGP before, was just a handful of people, but everyone was so nice! I’m glad we switch up locations every now and then too, hope to explore more parts of the city and Bay with the BJD community
I don't think I'll be able to attend a meet this month as my Sundays ended up pretty full >.< if its on the 15th or the 29th I might be able to squeeze in. I really hope you guys can figure out a day to meet cuz a Halloween themed meet sounds hard to pass up!
So happy to see more folks have found the thread! It sounds like a lot of us are busy (including me), so we are going to skip this month and try for November. The area we are currently meeting at is protected from rain, but is technically outside. So it's likely you will need to dress warm (ie: in layers) as needed. All things autumn have arrived! Cozy drinks, blankets, and things that go bump in the twilight. Theme: Open theme this time. Go nuts! Where: 4 Embarcadero Center (right past the entrance to Harborview Restaurant) When: Sunday, Nov 12th Time: 1pm Masks: Yes For the comfort of all, I ask for all attendees to wear a face mask while in attendance. So mark your calendars, and lets see how many folks we can get together to celebrate the season.
I'll try to make it to November! (It was 97 degrees here today It'll be cooler by November... at least I hope lol... but I was really missing that San Francisco weather!)
It’s been 85+ every day since Thursday in SF, and I’ve been hiding at home since then. It’s only now around 60 outside, think the weather is finally dropping back to average, thank god!
At this point here it’s like, air show + heat wave annual suppression of the locals. Too hot! Too loud! So glad it’s all ending today.
Oops, forgot to visit the thread for a while and didn't get updates! I'm out of town for this month and November, but I hope we can have a winter holiday meet in December!
It’s time! Our meetup is THIS Sunday! Who all is excited about coming out? In an effort of transparency as the thread is so quiet… if less than 3 people can come out, then we will cancel and try again in January. So grab your friends, help spread the word, and post if you are able to come out or not by Thursday.
@St. James and I will do our best to motivate. We'll have only been back from our trip a day or two and will be a jetlagged mess. But I did score a few new outfits from Dollyteria so maybe it'll give me a reason to go out
So happy to hear folks can make it out this weekend. ^_^ I’m thinking I may bring my lion and his cub. I don’t believe I’ve ever brought them to a meet before.
So just a heads up that the Sunday protest against APEC (there are many planned) happens to be meeting at the Harry Bridges Plaza at noon and then marching in the direction of Moscone Center, so we may see more traffic and police than usual.
Wow so I'm currently standing at the entrance to Embarcadero Center by Justin Herman Plaza (or whatever it's called now) and uh. Yeah.
I just woke up (thanks, jet-lag!) and my body cannot be convinced that it isn't 4am so I'm not going to make it.
I think I’m in the right location, seems the crowds have dissipated. I’m in a white tee with an old black dog and a dark blue telescope bag
It was so nice to meet you and Featherfire IRL today!! I loved how chill it was and can’t wait to see the photos you all took of everyone
Wish I coulda come to the November meet but life got me busy. I look forward to joining at a December meet if I'm able to! It'll be great to meet any new people again!
Huh… hi! I used to frequent (and run) meets over a decade ago and I’m feeling nostalgic (and also have a ton of new dolls since then). I wonder if anyone from when I was running around SF meets is still here.
Hi, hi! I haven't been to a physical meeting since 2019, and yet, I finally logged back into DoA and discovered that there's a doll meet in the works for January 2024. What an awesome way to start off the New Year!
Welcome new folks to find the thread! We’ve been trying our best to get meetups going again. Make sure to check out the photo thread linked in the first post, to see some of the outings.
Would it be okay if I came by with freebies for the community? I have a bunch of MSD-sized clothes/accessories and some furniture I would love to just give it all to someone who will appreciate it. I don't have the time to put it up for sale and can throw some photos of the things in here if that's all right! My only caveat is that it ALL has to go, so one person can take the lot and divvy it up amongst others and that's fine with me.
I won't be able to make January, unfortunately... my roommate is having surgery so January is going to be a busy month around here.
Most likely our January meet will be back on our schedule of 4th Sundays. I’m just needing to wait this week to make sure I don’t have a conflict. I do want to attend my own meetup.
How many people usually show up and for how long do the meets usually last? This will be my first time joining yall if I can manage to go!
There's a slim chance I'll be in town depending on what date gets picked, so I'm replying as a heads up and to keep this thread in my notifs XD
