Rosette 'School of Dolls'... Mini discussion Part 1

Nov 22, 2008

    1. LMAO too cute :D

I had Dollmore black stockings stain the legs of one of my dolls and magic eraser took it all of with some rubbing. I'll be careful in the future, soaking some stuff in vinegar after washing it, but I haven't had that problem with clothes yet, and I never use body suits.
having said that, I am planning on an Obitsu in the future, and I hear they stain more easily so I may get her a body suit. MAYBE :D Probably from Volks.

I am 13 days away from picking up my second hand Violet :D I am so excited and counting the days :D
So far I made her a skirt which is finished, and I have a tight velvet dress almost done (made with measurements only) just waiting for her to get home to try it to see exactly where I want to hem the top and bottom of it before trimming it :D
Dying to make her tops, but I need to have her here for that just in case :D OMG I can't wait!!! She is local, too, and there is a meet on the 21st, the day after payday, so that's where I'm picking her up, with the last payment of my layaway in hand :D
After that, her and I are going online to go shoe shopping, and to look at some clothes :D
I love the Rallala dress from Dollmore, and I am wondering if anyone else has it, cause I don't know which size to get. Here it is in MSD, and here in SD. I am thinking SD size because of boobs and length. Any suggestions?

    2. xhanthi: Thanks for all the helpful answers! :aheartbea I will definitely keep these tips in mind when making a decision on what to buy! As for clothes I think I'll stick with light colors as I'm going to have the clothing custom made. And I can see your point about bodysuits, they are likely to be more annoying than helpful! And anywho, you can't keep your BJDs perfect forever, so you might as well enjoy them! *wink* *smile*

elsii: Thank you for your imput as well! :aheartbea Lined clothes sounds like a great idea! But I am still going to be as careful as possible, without becoming completely crazy when it comes to dark colored clothing, because I'm far too scared to experiment with sanding! :sweat

Now, here is another question for all of you Soom Rosette owners! This will be my very first time owning a BJD, and I want to know if you think that a Rosette is a good first, and possibly only, BJD for someone to own? Like, for example, do you like Soom Rosettes enough to go back in time and tell your younger self to buy a Rosette BJD as your first? *wonders* When it comes to BJDs, I'm very interested in quality posing, as I will mainly be using my doll for photo stories and the like. So, how would you rate your doll's posing skills?

Thanks again for all the help and info, feel free to let me know if I start to get overly annoying!

      Yours Truly,

      VictorianLady :aheartbea

    3. Yay Giodrakes! I can't wait to see her :D

I'd definitely go for the MSD if you're after that darling little dress, I think the SD size would have to be altered so much it wouldn't be recognisable.

      EDIT to include VictorianLady's bits
I know I've said it before, but VictorianLady is new so I'm allowed to dote again, aren't I? Peri is totally my favourite doll. Her resin is silky smooth, she has miles of personality and she take no effort to pose. The only issue you will have with Rosette posing is the standing because they are top heavy due to the loooong legs. I'll be very interested to know if a muse doll will pose better actually.
I would have been very happy if she were my first doll but I didn't even know they existed when I started looking and I was only on a yo-sd budget so that was that.
Tell us your plans for your Violet, VL!

    4. Giodrakes: Thanks for the heads up on the magic eraser! :aheartbea I'll have to look about getting one of those if I ever have any trouble! Also, congratulations on your Violet! I'm sure your very excited about getting her home soon! *smiles* But when you do get her home and together, I except loads of photos and the like! *wink* Did you get a Pure or Muse bodied Violet? Girl or Lady bust? *wonders* I'm just asking because somewhere in the future I plan to get a Muse Violet with a Lady bust! Of couse this will probably take me forever, but dreams never hurt anyone!

    5. VictorianLady, great attitude! I only received my first doll in 2010, so I consider myself a new owner. I've learned quite a bit, and had some experiences, and even though I've been scared of staining and yellowing, that's one thing I've always had in mind: to enjoy my dolls :D They might not stay perfect forever, but I'd rather that than keeping them locked away in a box :D so YAY for you :D

For the people that do keep their dolls in boxes, I want to say I completely understand how you feel, and I would do it, too, but not having them out where I can look at them (away from sun of course) would greatly infringe in my personal enjoyment of them. But if you can keep them put away and still enjoy them, then good for you :D And I admire your resolve :D

I am going to experiment with fitting my Violet's body, so I don't know if everything she owns will be lined, but knowing me, and how I try to line everything tight even if it's a pain, I'll probably end up lining all of it sooner or later :D I can't wait to see her in fluffy skirts, with that tiny little waist and skinny long legs *squee*

I'm a chicken and scared to sand, BUT given the proper instructions and materials, I might attempt some seams sanding, as I don't want to send the whole crew away all at once :D

    6. elsii, thanks for the suggestion! I will definitely get MSD then.

VictorianLady, I am getting the Pure, with Lady body :D Now imagine... tight tops, and fluffy skirts... :D *squees again* What are you getting this time? I think I saw you are also getting a Violet?

    7. elsii: Thanks for the insight! :aheartbea It will be interesting to eventually see if the Muse bodies stand better than the Pure bodies do! And thank you for repeating yourself, Rosettes sound like a dream! *squee* As for the plans that I have for my future Violet, well they are still mostly up in the air, as is my budget! I will tell you what I do know though, She will be a Muse Violet with a Lady bust with the Muse faceup, her name will be Lavinia, (which is a Latin name meaning purity), she will have vivid blue eyes, and I'm still trying to pick the perfect wig, (which is a lot harder than I first thought!) as for other details, I'm still working on them! I guess you could say that Lavinia and I are just getting to know each other, really I'm just grateful that she told me her name and eye color preference! *giggle* Although, if I had to guess, I'd say that she's going to be a sweetie, and perhaps I could coax her to wear some Lolita Fashion with me! I have a secret dream to dress like my doll! :aheartbea

Anywho, I will hopefully be able to afford her sometime next year, but I don't mind the wait because it gives me longer to learn all I can before I make a big investment! *smile*

Giodrakes: Thanks for the encouragement! :) It helps more than you know! And I'm excited about your Violet as well, she sounds like she will be very lovely! What is her name? Has she told you yet? *wonder* *giggle* As per your question, I won't have my Violet for quite a long time, but it's fine because I don't want to accidently buy her too prematurely and not know how to take care of her!
My goal is sometime next year, but only time will tell!

I feel the same about enjoying your BJDs, I can see why some people leave their dolls naked in their boxes in a dark room, but for me that just sounds like doll cruelty! For me I have to have my dolls out on display to really enjoy them! I mean they are works of art! It would be a waste to have them all couped up!

Well, I think I've ranted enough in this post!

Here's to many beautiful pictures in the near furture!

      Truly,

      VictorianLady :aheartbea

    8. I think your first doll should be the doll you can't stop thinking about! I don't think there are any dolls that make better starter dolls than others. It's such a personal thing. All I know is that if you've got Rosette on the brain and have a sculpt all picked out getting a different doll is just putting off the inevitable. Sooner or later you'll get that Rosette :)

I'm with the keep-the-dollies-out-of-the-box crew. I worry about them getting damaged too but not enough to keep them boxed up in a closet. I want to be able to enjoy them! I can see why you'd do it, but to me it feels like wrapping your furniture in plastic, or buying a DSLR but only taking your cell phone out for photots. But I guess is depends on why you buy the doll in the first place, I buy mine to play with but I know there are others who buy them as collector pieces.

    9. xhanthi: I totally agree, I have Rosette on the brain! O_o And although I have thought of going the bargain road of buy whichever BJD I can afford, I just can't! I keep coming back to Rosettes, so I'm just going to save my money and one day I'll have one! :aheartbea

    10. Hnnnnnnnnnnnnnfffffffffff Wink is here! Blimey that was fast :) (obviously I'm talking about the EMS, not the 4 month wait until she shipped :P )
      I'm so happeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Peri is rather jealous though because Winkle has lovely resin bars(?) in her hands that attach to the S-hook instead of the spiral-in loops. Wink also came with an extra set of hands so I think I might pinch the upgraded standard ones for Peri and Wink can wear the LE ones.

Is this my sister? Finally? by ~elsii~, on Flickr

    11. elsii: CONGRATULATIONS!!! :aheartbea :D :aheartbea

I demand photos! Lots of lovely photos, with Peri and Wink together!! *squee* Oh the cuteness, I'm sure it will be far too much for me!

    12. pepepepeppepepee thanks! No pictures of Wink yet cos she's as blank as blank can be until I can get her a faceup, but here's one of Peri sporting her new eyes. They are perfect for her! The sun was going down in a hurry when I took this so please excuse the weird gloom.

Peri's new eyes by ~elsii~, on Flickr

    13. Ah, Peri-Wink(le), how witty ;) I'm very curious about Wink! And Peri's eyes are just lovely.

Also, I have decided that my Marcia hybrid isn't suited for the octopus idea I had... I still want an octopus, but pleh. So for now she'll be the sister of my other two Marcia's. I'm hoping I can get a normal skin head instead of her current white skin head, because now I have to blush it with every faceup and that's such a bother xD
I'm waiting on a tiny brush, a new wig, new shoes and a new outfit for her, so when all that comes in her makeover will commence xD

    14. Congratulations elsii!!! Can't wait to see her :D did you make her or buy her stuff already?
12 days for me, and still counting :D

VictorianLady, You're welcome :D As for my Violet, her name is Olivia, Livi for short. Most of my dolls have red hair, and Livi will come with red hair, so I might keep the wig she comes with, but pondering to change to a Monique Gold in Carrot Red. Perhaps "Faith" cause it has bangs :D I love blue and green eyes, BUT I do have a boy doll that turned all dark on me when he got home (black hair and brown eyes), so I don't know about eyes yet :D I'm just hoping she fits 12mm.
I am hoping she will like cute fluffy skirts as well as casual stuff, but I would like to dress her up "steampunk" sometimes, too. Have to see what she likes when she gets here though :) And of course, I am hoping to get or make a school uniform for her. That would be too cute :D

    15. Heh Snow that's me, queen of wit (read:lame)
It's a pity we won't get to see Kordelia as an octopus but I can't wait to see her as one of the Marcia sisters :aheartbea I hope you can find that NS head soon! It sounds like a heck of a makeover is in store for her :D

Giodrakes - I plan to send her body to Peppermint Circus in September to have some stuff sewn for my three girls, which will be good timing cos that's when I'll be getting Wink's face done :) Right now I'm just pinning back some slim msd stuff on them and trying not to notice hehe.
I'm counting down with you til you get your Violet!

    16. Oh yes, she'll be quite different ^^
I ordered her a Dollzone outfit, but it will most likely be too big, so I can put my new sewing skills to work xD She'll be a brunette as well c:

    17. Congrats Elsii!! I can't wait to see her done! Peri is fabulous and those new eyes look really nice with her wig.

    18. elsii: Your girl is beautiful !!! *wants more photos*
Is that a Soom wig? What size wig does she wear?

    19. elsii, that's really cool :D I hope you show off the wardrobe after :D And I second the wig question :D where is it from? I love those curls and the bangs :D

    20. Thanks lovelies :)
Her wig is from Leeke, I got it from one of their lucky dip blind wig events and just as soon as I plopped it down on her head she wasn't letting it go! It's a 6~6.5 but I really want to get my hands on a 5~6 wig though to see if it would work on her. I like a tiiiiight fit ;)

lol yeah Giodrakes, I told PeppermintCircus that she might expect a flurry of other orders from Rosette owners while she has my doll in her possession because there just aren't too many seamstresses out there who sew for them.

    21. Oh, Elsii, she is gorgeous! I want a Fir, but I shudder at the thought of a four-month wait O__O Dilemmas!

    22. Yay for Elsiiiiii~ Get her over here for us to see her soon! I looove Peri's new eyes, so beautiful and stormy.

    23. elsii, your Fir is absolutely stunning! Oh man, this makes me want to give Sheila a new faceup more than ever, but I've got girls around here with incomplete faceups so she'll just have to wait in line some more I suppose. Also, that wig is beautiful! Is it Leeke cadet blue?

    24. bronzephoenix, you should order one, lol! At least Soom gives good, honest communication....unlike some other companies we know;)
At least Victoria was honest in telling me to wait a month before they could even tell me how long a wait I was in for, lol.

elsii, your Wink is stunning! Congratulations on getting her. I look forward to seeing more pictures of her.

VictorianLady, don't ever say you will only have one. I said that, too, when I got my first one back in '07. I now have over 35 all of various shapes and sizes. Before you purchase, look at all the companies out there. Do your research carefully. Think about what is important to you. Is it the ability of the doll to pose well? Is it for the doll to wear doll clothing you might already have? Are they just going to sit on a shelf or be played with? Once you think you have decided on the doll, wait a bit longer. Sometimes, after a time, you will change your mind and tastes. As someone else said, the perfect first doll is the one you can't stop thinking about.... for a long time. Look at all the owner pictures you can find and not just the company's website pictures. One of my first dolls was a disappointment to me because she didn't look like the promo pictures.

Also look very carefully at the company you chose. See if they have a good reputation recently. Look at the waiting threads to see recent customer service. Sometimes a great company can start to have issues, like the long wait times for Rosettes. If you aren't prepared for a long wait time or no comunication at all, you might be better off just looking in the marketplace for the doll you want. Sometimes, you can do all the research and still not like the doll when he/she arrives. That's okay. Just put the doll up for sale or keep it and move on. All of mine have their quirks and some have issues and some don't. I enjoy them all.

As far as the staining, I've even had black pants from Doll Heart stain. A littel Magic Eraser and we are good to go again.

    25. elsii: I love Peri's new eyes! They make her look just like a fairy! :aheartbea I can't wait to see pictures of Wink when you get her all put together and fixed up! I'm sure she'll be stunning just like her sister!

Giodrakes: What a great name! :aheartbea That wig that you're considering is pretty! I'm sure that you can hardly wait for your Violet, I guess you'll know what to buy her when she gets home!

gracie: YOU HAVE OVER 35?!?! :o I could never take care of so many! I'm going to be happy with just one, although, I might get my future Rosette a little Pipos friend, because they are so cute! :D

    26. Gracie, lol, yes. You are completely right- a long wait isn't so bad when the company is straight forward with you. I feel like we are comrades-in-arms even now after that certain fiasco!

    27. Wow, I have been gone for so long D: Apology spam?

Miss Woode by Hippolovergurl, on Flickr

I cannot comment on everyone's wonderful pictures but I have really enjoyed looking through them!

Elsii- Peri's eyes are AMAZING! So gorgeous with her hair!

    28. DAWR!!! Congrats elsii Can't wait to see the girls together completed *squees*
*laughs* Wonderful apology HLG pic spam is always appreciated <3

    29. Haha no problem! It's good to be back! I aim to be more involved now ^^

    30. Rose!! It's been too long :)

Thanks for the lovely comments on Peri, my sweets! She just loves attention, I have a feeling she'll have quite a bit of competition when her sister is all done up and ready for show though.
And yes, riventiana we need to see more of Sheila for sure :D also, I think Peri's wig is Angel Blue but I couldn't be sure.

And now I'm off to the post office to post off the gown/wig/shoes that came with Wink to their new owner :) I hope we get to see them resurface in the thread sometime.

More spam please! I suppose it's too early to ask anna for Muse spam, but hey a girl can dream right

    31. elsii, I am hoping for her to arrive tomorrow! She cleared customs today, so hopefully she'll arrive in Seattle sometime tonight, just in time for delivery tomorrow :D I will keep you all posted and will definitely post a lot of pictures! I'm super excited!

    32. *bum wiggle* Excitement!!! Did you get her with faceup as well? I'm d y i n g to see owner pictures of her faceup. It'll be the deciding factor btwn (eventually) Sakura and Marguerite. <<<<<< Hooray that's the first time I've ever spelled Marguerite correctly!

    33. elsii, I have a friend that can make clothes appear magically out of nowhere, and she wants my girl to go on vacation to her place for 2 weeks :D I just don't know if I want to send her away so soon after I get her :D

Awwwww, HLG, apology spam accepted :D She is gorgeous :D

VictorianLady, thanks :D I have butterflies in my tummy waiting :D I can't believe it's only one more week!!!!! OMG!!!! Just realized the 21st is a Sunday, too, so I am definitely taking her to work on Monday, cause I won't have much time to play with her after I get her home. That's ok though, good excuse to bring her to work, and on a Monday :D
I don't have a bag for her, so I might bring her in her box :D

    34. :o where do I get one of these magical-clothes-appearing friends

    35. elsii, I DID get a face-up! If I like what I see tomorrow, I am going to get a Muse Fir... or Armeria... not sure yet :D

Giodrakes, I want a friend like that! I know about sending a doll away soon after getting her - it's not easy. But, at least she should come back to you with an outfit or two :)

    36. Hi! I just got a rosette girl body and I'm DYING to clothe her! I do have plans to sew some things for her, but out of curiosity, do any companies (apart from rosette) sell clothes that might fit them?

*I'm guessing this question has been answered before but I looked through the past few pages and everything was going so fast *_*

    37. Pearl : the Rosette clothing database is here
You have some suggestions and ideas for clothes.

You can also ask a commission to Silje (she already has 2 or 3 Rosettes). She also have clothes ready to purchase in her shop here.

EDIT : I found Aserath. She is also making clothes for Rosettes.

    38. Pfffffft, Kordelia and one of my Littlefee's just took a dive from the bookcase they're in X___x
I have a piece of fabric as a backdrop in the bookcase and it came loose, making my dollies go tumble down D:
Luckily she landed on a soft chair, but from where I was sitting it looked like she jumped from the case =__= Maybe she's telling me she wants that makeover right now. But I don't have any of her stuff yet D:

    39. Anna- Oooooh thats so exciting! I hope she arrives XD

elsii- Haha yes. much too long. ;)

Giodrakes- Thank you! I love how sweet all of you have been since I "came back" lol Now which rosette is it you are getting next week?! Or is it still a secret?

pearl- Congratz! I, personally, adore popomini's work here on DOA. I think her store is currently closed, but she should be opening again soon if she isn't already. She has made me three different outfits for my Rosette and all of them are simply lovely.

Snow- Yikes! At least her face up wasn't damaged. :) It's so perfect.

    40. Thank you Hippo, but it probably will be changed xD I don't like how dark I blushed her head and I don't think I can find a normal skin head any time soon, so I want her to look a bit nicer until then xD

    41. Thanks so much for the links!! I love rosette bodies so much, since they're so delicate and *perfect*. I have half the mind to leave my girl nekkid just so I can look at the body but for her dignity, I should at least attempt to clothe her ^_~

I probably wouldn't post pictures of my girl here (since she's a hybrid), but I thought it'd be helpful to point out that souldoll and rosette have a 100% resin match, in case anyone has wondered ;P

    42. Oh Pearl! You should still totally post her ;)
I have a Rosette body with a Minifee head and I post pics of her as well ^^

    43. I'm with snow on this, I'd love to see a pic of your girl Pearl, I'm keen to see what a MNF head looks like on a Rosette body!

    44. Another person agree-ing on this pearl
Hybrids are always welcome and are so pretty x3 you must picspam *begging eyes*
Snow I don't know rather to be relieved that you werent on the chair when she fell or worried that it happened at all D:

    45. Haha, that would've given a headache! I have carpet in my room though, so if they do happen to fall, they will always land softly. I secured the fabric backdrop extra well now (ductape ftw) so it will be fine from now on c:

    46. Thanks for the info pearl! Especially good since Souldoll is discontinuing some sculpts right now. I have a Souldoll Apple, but I got her 2 or 3 years ago so I'm wondering if the current resin color is the same as what I have. I haven't gotten my Rosette yet and I love her face so I won't change, but it might make getting a Souldoll head for the discontinued sculpt make more sense. I wish Rosette would sell the bodies separately.

    47. Well, here's a picture of Ai. She's a souldoll liddell head with custom faceup by souldoll on a rosette girl body ^^ The head is proportional to the body, although it looks a little too big in the picture due to the downwards angle >.< Note to self not to take from the top view in future!

I am IN LOVE with the hands! Such pretty and delicate hands... wins all the others that I have so far hands down >.<

Sorry for the lack of clothes ;)

    48. argh was logged as my mum by accident:doh

    49. sorry about that i was helping my mum samson set up a thread to sell a dolly..

      pearl she is absolutely gorgeous!!!!
i have decided after i get my floaty head a body, the next doll i want is a rosette! i look at this thread so much and love all your dolls :aheartbea

    50. Oh, Pearl, she's absolutely wicked :D
I've always loved Lidell's odd features and it completely suits the body.

    51. SERIOUSLY BEAUTIFUL! Omigosh pearl she is lovely :D
Please post more pics (nude or not *wink wink*)
Makes me want to take pics of Dana (but I lack the skills to hold a camera)

    52. Omg Pearl she's stunning! You're right about those hands, they're so delicate!

    53. That combination is wonderful! she is really gorgeous. Do you have more pics that show the whole doll? I would love to see how the proportions look together.

    54. pearl- She is so cute!

    55. Oooh pearl! She's gorgeous! I've decided Rosette hybrids are my favourite hybrids. Did you have to mod the head at all to get her to stay on?

    56. Hi all!

      SHE'S HERE! :D Link to box opening ----> http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?466066

Now, on to the amazing news - she fits the vast majority of my Gene stuff and pretty much all the Tonner stuff. The Gene stuff fits pretty perfectly. There was one dress that I found so far that is a tad too tight (but, I will easily fix this by moving the snap just a bit). For the Tonner stuff, some of it is a bit loose, but, again, nothing a quick move of a snap or two won't fix. Tonner bottoms - skirts and pants - fit pretty perfectly; they are not skin-tight, but that's fine with me, because she'll be able to sit comfortably in them.

Here is a picture of Margarita wearing a Gene dress:

Back of the dress - shows that it snaps up perfectly:

And, here she is wearing Tonner jeans:

I am so excited! She has a TON of Tonner/Gene stuff to wear! I see more Rosettes in my future :D

Also, I love the Muse body proportions - it is exactly what I wanted! If you'd like more pictures of anything, let me know :)

    57. Anna : congrats for your Margarita. She's adorable :)
Maybe can you post the clothing informations (Gene/Tonner) with your pics on the Rosette clothing database thread ?

Pearl : congrats for your girl. She is STUNNING !! I love her eyes. She's so sweet.

    58. Anna: How long was the wait to get your Margarita? I'm planning to order one.
