Rosette 'School of Dolls'... Mini discussion Part 1

Nov 22, 2008

    1. Blarrarararar, I wish the girl selling me her Armeria would get back to me soon, I can't send her anything unless I know where to send it. The wait is killing meeee.

    2. Alriiiiiiiight, sent out my payment, she's being sent overnight mail, I'm so excited you guys, I hope she's right for me!

    3. Oh yay!!! I can't wait to see her americonedream~ and yes, Rosettes need more clothes D:

    4. They dooo. They can't be in school ALL the time.

    5. That made me lol xD
      Soo true!

Just got Armeria's sleeping gown today, it's so long...and it's actually short on the dolls! Gosh, I cant wait until I can get a rosette girl...or two heheh :3

    6. 80 You got the gown? Oooo, where? I'm super jealous!

    7. I've been eyeing these girls off for a while now. I love the lanky proportions! Anyone mind letting me know what their posing is like?

    8. xhanthi if I had to use just one word to describe the posing I would say...... fluid? (is that the right word I'm looking for here girls? feel free to chime in!)
Of all my dolls I love my Rosette the most because she's just so...... fluid. Ummm I really can't think of what other word to use. Smooth? Free? Gourmet?
Wait, let me find Anneke's post about the posing; she uses words much better than I do
Which one of the girls caught your eye specifically, xhanth?

Also I meant to add WOOOOOHOOOOOO americonedream!!!!

    9. Whoohoo, indeed, I'm MEGA STOKED!
This oughta help you, Xanthi, Rosettes can do a lot of nifty poses, they can hug their legs and everything!
http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...-Posing-Hybrid&highlight=rosette+school+dolls <-- The Armeria posing there is actually the girl I'm getting. :aheartbea
Welcome to the fold, btw. º 3º Your faceups are GORGEOUS, it'd be great to see what you might do with a Rosette if you decide to get one.

    10. Fluid eh? That's sounds promising! They seem to be able to do a variety of good posing judging by user pics. I've got my eye and Fir at the moment :D She's so delicious!

Aww thanks Americonedream! Grats on your new girl too! I'm going to go trawl through a bit more of this thread over coffee.

Oooh, video link! Thanks Anneke! <3

    11. In a summer term Armeria split. When I saw it, it said that the hostess of the split was going to take the outfit but I asked her since it seemed like she had only been taking it to order the doll. Luckily that was the case and I got the outfit (and wig) :3

    12. Fir? We like Fir! Yay Fir!

She's a bit miffed that I took her blue wig off her for this picture, she was the lucky one who got to model a Leeke wig I hacked up and straightened

    13. Hi guys! I've been stalking this thread for a while now. I want to order a Muse Marguerite. Did you guys order directly from Soom? How was the service and the shipping?

    14. I really like the blonde wig on her, Elsii! It's totally her color. <3
Hi, Hypercurve, mostly everyone but me has ordered from Soom, I think the most problems I've heard about were about the site not staying in contact and the looong wait for a doll.

    15. Hypercurve, I haven't received my Summer Term Marguerite yet, but I would agree with americonedream. Ordering was super easy. Great communication.....very long wait. I paid off my Marguerite at the beginning of July. I was told by Rosette (Soom) to wait a month before I could even ask how long I would be waiting.

    16. Hello everyone! My name is VictorianLady and I have been following your thread for over a month now. I just recently have been able to create an account thanks to the kindess of a friend, and I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello! The things that I have learned from this thread have been priceless, and I hope to learn even more from you lovely people before I make my first purchase. Sometime next year I hope to buy a Soom Rosette Muse Violet, if all goes well with the continuance of my BJD education!(And my budget!) *Laughs* Anywho, I'll be off now, I hope that all of you have a restful day, and I'll most likely pop in soon to start annoying you all with my far too through questions!

      Lovely day to everyone,

      VictorianLady :aheartbea

    17. Hahaha, welcome, Victorianlady, don't worry you won't annoy us, we're all a curious bunch.
Also, I know we're not allowed to discuss sales but if any of you are looking for a summer term Marguerite, there's one on the marketplace. It's not mine (duh) and I don't know who is selling it but I think one of you was bummed she was sold out?

    18. Awwwww she's adorable! I love her eyes <3

    19. Yeah, good choice, Xhanthi, Fir is such a lovely sculpt, you can't do wrong with her.

    20. elsii, she's gorgeous! Is that Soom's face-up or custom? Lovely Fir, for sure!

Hypercurve, I actually ordered a Muse Marguerite and I basically had the same experience that others have described - very easy to order, good communication, but very long wait times. I ordered over 3 months ago and she's still not here. So, even though she's a basic doll, be prepared for a long wait.

VictorianLady, welcome! Everyone here is very helpful, so I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay here - I know I am! :)

    21. VictorianLady - ask all you like, we'll help if we can :)

    22. Oh ewww. I just did an epic Fairyland wait, I don't want to do another one lol. Will they be having a winter event do you think?

    23. They might be, they didn't do one last year but they did have a Michaelmas term Sakura with the loveliest dress ever. I should hope they do, though! Winter clothes! Ooooo caroling Rosettes. ID

    24. xhanthi, I can relate to the Fairyland wait - my last set of dolls arrived after 2.5 months and I wasn't too happy waiting that long!

Not sure on the winter event - I hope so! I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I'm definitely going to hold off ordering when it comes to that time, so that I can catch the event, if there is one :)

    25. omg Dickens' Christmas Carol style outfits?? That would break me, i would die!

    26. Right? < u < If I were bursting with cash, I'd have the same problem. Of course all I'd like are clothes, buying an extra doll is too expensive and all that.
If you're into Dickens' Christmas Carol, you'd flip over the Dickens Christmas Fair we have every year in the Bay Area. º 3º Everybody dresses up in period clothing, there's musicians and all that good stuff and awesome stuff to buy.

    27. Good gosh! elsii fir looks stunning! I certainly don't remember her factory face-up looking that awesome.
The blonde hair is the bees knees <3
Welcome aboard Xhanthi, Hypercurve, and VictorianLady!
I don't think you'll have to worry about bothering or harassing anyone here just as americonedream said, we are all a curious bunch ^^
I will be too broke to want a x-mas event Rosette style, but secretly hope for it~ at least outfits!

    28. americonedream, that was me that was so upset ST Marguerite was sold out. I contacted Rosette and Victoria put one up on another Soom site for me to purchase.

    29. I'm loving all the new visitors to the thread! *waves* Hi everybody!

Yes, Anna & violetproof that is a custom faceup by Andreja on my Peri. While I like the blonde hair she's just not Peri without her blue wig.

And also, can we harass Soom to bring out just bodies already! While Violet is away getting her faceup done my Elfdoll Yumi stole her body and I think it looks pretty slick, what do you guys reckon?

Yumi on Rosette by ~elsii~, on Flickr

Which reminds me, has anyone got their Muse home yet? I have a horrible memory :S

    30. elsii, Yumi looks awesome on the Rosette body! I like the proportions quite a bit. I do hope Soom will consider selling the bodies, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I didn't see anybody post any Muse girls yet - I stalk the box opening forum religiously and I didn't see any there as well. If somebody does have any of them home, I'd love to see pictures! I am so anxious to see my girl already.

    31. Yumi looks so cool on Violet's body, nice find!
Oh, good, Gracie, I knew you ended up getting one, I was falsely under the impression that there was more than one person who wanted her.

    32. Hello everyone! Thank you for the warm welcome! :aheartbea So, to start with my infinite list of questions, here's number one! *clears throat* The Soom Rosette silicon eyes, do they stay put with the help of the little prongs that the Rosettes have? Or, do you have to use eye putty? If the eye putty is a must, what is the best kind to use? I have heard stories about bad things that have happened to BJDs concerning eye putty, and am therefore nervous! O_o Also, is it true that you can use silicon ear plugs to hold the eyes in place? Or some other type perhaps? Anywho, I'm sure I've asked enough questions for the time being! Have a great day and thank you in advance for all the help!

Signed A Trainee in the Art of the BJD,

      VictorianLady :aheartbea

    33. lol you're too funny VictorianLady! This is my favourite thread of all threads so I'm always looking for an excuse to be babbling endlessly in here :XD:

In regards to the silicone eyes: I have found with Violet who takes a 14mm eye no eye putty is needed because of the little prongs, but with my Fir who wears 12mm eyes she does need the assistance of the eye putty to keep her eyes in firm. They will stay without it but I like to use it just in case. I suppose it differs from sculpt to sculpt and from eye to eye. I know many of the girls here have removed the little eye holding 'nubs' in their Rosette heads to use glass/urethane eyes instead.

With both of my Rosette dolls they came supplied with eye putty from Soom so there was no need to scavenge from my other dolls or resort to blu tak (that's right, I'm all class over here people) or anything else like that but I have found that their putty isn't as sticky as some other companies which is not a huge deal but I have my preference on the stickier side of things.
You can use silicone earplugs for other sorts of eyes (glass etc) but I have read they shouldn't be used for silicone eyes because it can cause clouding of the eye and permanent bonding of the two together or some such extraordinary marvel of chemistry. I'm not really sure how they work... they still weird me out just thinking of how one would use them in one's ears, let alone as eye putty!

      Next question!

    34. LMAO too funny, exactly what I was thinking when I went to see the very few clothes they have for sale on the site, and 4 of the things listed are different size uniforms :D
I was going to hunt down a uniform anyway, till I realized it's a one piece. If that thing was a jacket and skirt, I would have one on my wish list. But maybe I'll just get her a little plaid skirt, white blouse, and a cardigan or jacket to match and make it a school uniform :D OMG she would look cute with a little tiny backpack....

    35. Thanks guys!!!
I'm not good with waiting. None of my dolls took over 2 months to get home. I hope there'll be authorized dealers for Rosette dolls in future. But I just might order directly this one time though ... really LOVE that Muse Marguerite mold!!!

Americonedream: Thanks for the suggestion! I'll give marketplace a try.

    36. elsii: Thank you very much for your words of BJD wisdom! :aheartbea I can see that you will fit perfectly into my evil plan to become the Mistress of ALL Resin! *laughs manically* Just kidding, I'm not that crazy! *wink*
Anywho, I plan to buy 14mm eyes, so perhaps they won't need any putty, but if they do it's nice to know that Soom provides that too! Also, thank you for the tip about silicon ear plugs and their effect on silicon eyes, what kind of horror would I be in for to wake up one day and find my beloved BJDs eyes all cloudy and dead! *gasps in horror* It would simply be too much!

Now, as per your request, onto my next question! *apply choice of fanfare here* My next question involves BJD wigs, I have heard of the dreaded staining caused by the wig being on the doll's head for too long, and I have also heard about the importantance of buying a silicon wig cap to prevent such happenings. So, here's where my question comes in: I plan on buying a long white wig, (and leaving the wig on the doll's head permanently as I don't like baldness), and I have been told that these do not have a problem with staining as another color wig would, is this true? Also, I may want to change my doll's wig in the future whenever I'm able to buy her, so could you recommend a place to purchase a silicone wig cap that would fit the head of a Soom Rosette? I've also heard that said wig cap prevents wig slippage which is a must if you what to make it through a photoshoot!

As an after thought, does a BJD wig cause staining in any other place than on the top on the head? For example, if I have a BJD wearing a black wig and long choppy bangs, would the bangs cause the doll's face to become stained? Or if said doll was wearing a strapless dress and and her hair fell over her shoulders, would her shoulders become stained?

Thank you again Miss elsii for taking the time to answer my far too deeply thought questions, but I do hope that they bring you many happy hours of babbling!

Eagerly Awaiting Your Next Informative Reply,

      VictorianLady :aheartbea

    37. Np, Hypercurve, it's usually the best place if you want cheaper dolls or don't feel like waiting three months for your doll.

    38. Sounds like a plan to me!

About staining; I loathe it. My best advice if you want a wig permanently on your doll and don't want to worry about staining, and also don't want to worry about wig caps, is to buy Monique wigs. Shop link HERE You can put your doll in any of those wigs and they just don't stain. It's brilliant. My basic rule is that if I want a darker coloured wig I'll get a Monique/Jpop wig, if I'm going for blondes or pale colours then i don't worry about where I get the wig because I haven't had a light coloured wig stain yet. The most important thing I can tell you is don't buy a dark coloured wigs from Leekeworld. They will stain. No doubt about it. So if you're buying from Leeke only get the pale colours. I can't say enough good things about Monique wigs though. Anyway, I'm going to shush up now. Hopefully all that was helpful and not irritating!

    39. *eek!* I need help guys! I got my Violet head back from her Angel Toast faceup (wow, just wow!) and I guess in the stringing/unstringing I went through with her she wound up REALLY loose. She's so loose that her head wont stay on because there's not enough tension to keep her small S-hook in place and her head slips right off! I tried pulling it really tight through her neck hole, then knotting it again (leaving a long loop inside her head) but this doesn't seem to be doing the trick. Is it weird that my S-hook is so small he head slips off it?

Any suggestions to save me from restringing the whole doll?

On another note, this is is terrible news:

Because I've been waiting MONTHS for my black Leekeworld wig!:...(:...( So excited to see her in those perfect loopy curls! I guess I should be getting a wig cap? Or douse the wig with vinegar? Anything I can do???

    40. Never heard of the vinegar thing, all I've seen people do is get wig caps to prevent staining. They really need to wash their wigs before they send them out, nobody wants a stained head. D:

    41. The vinegar thing is definitely worth a try. I'm going to give it a shot on one of my black Leeke wigs too. I know that some people use vinegar to set the dye when dying fabrics so it might also work on wigs. Worth a try at least.

    42. It seems that americonedream and I are totally left in the dark about vinegar. Sounds familar when it comes to fabrics though...but I am interested! Do you dunk the hair in a bowl of vinegar, spritz it? what will happen to curly hair? : D and what type of vinegar, apple, white? Gosh, the smell! How does that come off? *fascinated*

    43. I second what xhanti said about Jpop and Monique wigs. I've been using them since I got my first BJD back in '07 and I've never had one stain. I don't use wig caps, but I know some people do. You can also make one using a glue gun.

I use poster tack to keep the eyes in mine. Never had a problem with staining or clouding of eyes. We've also tried mack's silicone ear plugs and they work, too.

    44. Yaaaaaay! Welcome home Zoe :D:D:D

    45. Anneke, I was happy to see your box opening - I'm glad you posted it! Gorgeous doll :)

    46. OOoooOoOOOOOOoooooooooooooooO! I just got my shipping notice for Wink! Peri's sister is finally coming home :aheartbea

Also, Anneke did you get your S hook/stringing problems solved with Zoe?

    47. Congrats on Winkle's shipping O_O!! That's so exciting! I can't wait to see her and Peri together ^^ Is Wink going to get an Angel Toast faceup too?

I never figured out what to do with Zoe's loose stringing issue O_o I just double knotted it inside her head to keep her head on. It seems to work but her head posing is a bit limited now because the knots in her head make a lumpy anchor.

She's still amazing though >.< I love her!

    48. Well, I've never done it so this is all just speculation but the staining comes from the material scalp not the fibers of hair so I'd hazard that you could just dunk the cap part into vinegar and not necessarily the whole wig. I think any white vinegar would work but I'm not 100% on that.

Grats on your new girl! That outfit is amazing by the way. I love it!

    49. She's gorgeous Anneke! Congratulations

    50. xhanthi: Thanks for the tip! :aheartbea It's nice to know that there is a brand out there that sells wigs that won't stain! Also, will the wig stay on properly without a wig cap? And, if I were to buy one of those wigs for a Soom Rosette, what size would I buy to insure a correct fit? Secondly, do the Soom Rosette wigs stay on well without a wig cap? Is the quality of the wig good?

On another note, congratulations to all the lovely people who have gotten their dolls, or are finishing paying them off, or waiting for them! I'm sure that you're all very happy and excited, know that I share these sentiments with you all! *smiles*

Now, onto my next salvo of questions! Is there any color of clothing that won't stain resin? I have heard of lining doll clothes, and I'm pretty sure all white clothing is safe, but what about layering colored clothes on top of white items? Would that protect the resin, or would it cause the BJD to pose badly? I ask this because I plan to keep my doll dressed as well, so I believe this to be an important thing to ask about!

Anywho, thank you again for all your help, and I'll be back with more questions just about as fast as I can get these answered!

      Have a wonderful day!

      Yours,

      VictorianLady :aheartbea

    51. I'm not sure if I should continue asking but. So, I should turn the wig inside out and dip the wigcap area in white vinegar? *feels dumb*

      VictorianLady
in my experience the soom wigs fit decent, but will fall off after a small jostle of adjusting the dolls to sit or pretty much anything. I don't really like the quality but I have seen worse. I think soom might be (lower) middle quality. The only Soom doll that the wig fit to a t(ee) was Aphans though a little coarse.

    52. Oo, that is pretty cute, thank you! º 3º I actually have several looks I'd like to try on my girl, anybody ever seen a yosd sized pink bob wig?

    53. violetpoof: Thanks for the info! :aheartbea It's nice to know beforehand that Soom doesn't make the best quality wigs!

I think I'll just stick with Monique wigs because I've heard sure good things about them! But, I have to ask, do the Monique wigs stay in place well without a wig cap? And I was able to successfully figure out what size of the Monique wigs that Rosettes wear! By my calculations they fit into a size 6-7, so if anyone else is interested, voila! :)

americonedream: Actually, I do know where you could find a pink bob wig! I happened to see a new arrival on monique.com! Just click on the See New Items ... CLICK HERE! It will be the very first item that you see on the page the button takes you to, the wig is called BUBBLES Wig 410, the promo pic is in blue, but when you click on it you'll have loads more options on size and color! Including HOT PINK! :D Here's hoping that this helps you and your doll's quest to find that ever elusive perfect hair style! *winks*

As a side note, I still need more answers to the questions in my other post, so if anyone out there can help me, I'd be very grateful! :chocoheart

Have a lovely day day everyone!

      Signed the One and Only,

      VictorianLady :aheartbea

    54. Whoops! :sweat I seem to have added too many days! Ignore this mistake! Keep calm and carry on! *wink*

    55. Sounds like a good idea to me! Bearing in mind I've not actually done it before >.<
I don't have a Rosette so I've no idea what size they fit best, but in my experience if the wig is the right size it will stay on well and won't slide off willy nilly, with Monique wigs at least. As for clothes staining that's unfortunatley a crap shoot, some will some won't and it just depends on how the cloth was dyed and how well it was washed/set. I've had good luck so far and haven't had anything stain. I buy clothes from all over the place too. Generally speaking it runs the same as wigs, the darker the colour the more prone to staining it might be. If you're really concerned you can either wash all of the clothes you buy before you put them on your doll and set them with vinegar, or you get a bodysuit. I have zero experience with bodysuits btw so there's not much I can tell you there. Seems like an awful lot of hassel to me.

    56. Hello thread!
VictorianLady - keeping calm and carrying on is what we do best! *cough*
I'm with xhanthi, I've never used a bodysuit; seems like far too much effort. All of my dolls are dressed all the time and I've never had clothing stain my resin (should I touch wood?). I do have some clothes which are fully lined and it would be my preference to have all of my doll clothes that way but, let's be real, that's just not realistic... if I see something cute I'll buy it whether it's lined or not  I know something is bound to stain sooner or later but I'm not afraid to sand it off it it happens :)

on another note, has anyone used a wig that's smaller than 6~7? I'd love to see if someone has one hanging around. Perhaps a 5~6?

      EDIT:
Oops, I missed your question Anneke! Wink will be going to Andreja for a faceup like her sister ;) fingers crossed I can get a slot with her next month! I want her to have a seductive hussy look to her so she can fill the role of the slutty twin heheheh
