Ringdoll Grown Dolls, thread #9

Ahh, I really want jointed hands. I'd be so happy if they made jointed hands for the smaller bodies, since I need them for three RGM-4 and one RGM-3...

 

I am in so much danger with the leper king. His face, hands, mask, crown, armor and well about everything is so my taste. I dread finding out what his fullset will cost. I neeeeeeed him!

 

I'm wondering if they'd be kind enough to sell the heads separately. His alternate head is calling my name!

He's beautiful and not quite as expensive as I expected so I'm happy for that. I still can't figure out his hands though? The sword holding hand looks like it's definitely jointed, but now I'm wondering if we only get one jointed hand? And not both?

 

I love the Leper King's armor, the face mask! Wondering what it's made of and how it will hold up over time. Anyone have any insight or ideas?

 

I'm a little confused. Unless I misunderstood or incorrectly read the description on their website, it looked like you could pick one head and it could be either the basic or SP version. Unless you're talking about ordering just a head and not the full doll?

 

I just noticed how big he was and that there's gears and clocks on his armor, which totally ruins it for me I'll still get him I think, but I at least wish he wasn't so big.

As far as what it's made out of I wish I was qualified to answer lol. The only other Ringdoll I have is Hua Cheng and all his stuff is made of metal minus the sword. Xie Lian (the god version) is here too and his stuff is plastic. It looks like his is probably plastic? I wish I knew.

Plan on getting Baldwin IV/Leper King. But unsure if I want both heads or just the scar head. I really enjoyed him when they first teased him but wasn't planning on it untill the BF said he looks like his OC. And because I want a doll of his character I have been waiting for him to pick what one he think best fits so... The one person to tell me no has enabled me

It is a bit confusing. The fullset just has normal hands which is odd. You can order either the pair of armored hands and/or the sword holding hand separately. I went for both as I want those hands armored at all times. I am not sure if all are jointed.

Good question. I assumed the silver parts are painted resin. I would be very careful with it and the crown anyway.

 

It is an extra $130 or so to get both heads. If you decide you don't want one you could easily sell it.

 

Just realised you want the non scarred head. I only want the scarred version so i can ask to add the other head for you if you want.

I keep thinking I want it. But every time I look at it I am like 'its kinda ugly imo' but then I am like..... But I am ordering everything and then he wont have the other head to complete the set. But would I use the normal head?

 

I was surprised at the price. I thought the accessories would be a bit pricier. Even the doll himself isn't too bad price-wise.

This would be my first Ringdoll.

 

if u really dislike this head, then ye, maybe no point. When I buying bjd, if I not like head or other staff - not buying this, but if Im sure I not need this, but if I not sure need or not - I ordering this. In the past I skipped 2 dolls and regret it. It's a rare LE bjds.

 

Ring Doll just released Baldwin and are already teasing their next release. Looks like a doll based on Bastet? (Little sad it's not a girl doll because Bastet is Goddess but oh well)

Weird question but has anyone ever removed the paint from a prepainted part? Like a piece of resin armor or crown or robot stuff? I would like to change colors for some ringdoll stuff I have but am unsure if they are actually painted or cast that way and whether the paint is some kinda permanent or not if they are.

 

The robotic arm I bought was silver resin and I painted it to look copper and brass for Steampunk. Changing the color with paint is the same as with a faceup you just need to seal it and paint it. You don't need to remove the paint if there is already some on it.

Oh as if I wasn't already pining after Baldwin, now they have to tempt me with Bast? Egyptian themed dolls are such a weakness of mine.

 

Bast is very cute, but he doesn’t have that pouty ‘I could kill you with a finger, but I can’t be arsed’ thing that Anubis has.

My self and a few others were wondering what parts of baldwin might be metal or resin. I got my first ring doll today and his full set has metal accessories. The armor on my doll is actually metal. And they sent me a special cloth to help with wiping away tarnish on the silver. I was suprised the metal for the outfit is actually silver and not some other kind of metal. (thats what is says anyway). But another part of it is resin with a silver pigment. I expect for Baldin his hands, mask and chest armor will be in resin. While his crown will be actual metal.

The metal is thin, but trying to bend it with just my hand doesn't do anything. I think with enough force the silver could bend.

 

Did anyone end up purchasing Raymond 2.0 that was released last year? I'm curious as to what he looks like outside of promo pics.

I've been wondering about the choices with metal vs resin vs plastic as well. For my Hua Cheng, most of his accessories are metal, but E'ming (sword) is plastic. I assume it's because of rules against metal weapons being shipped overseas, even if they're fake.

 

Could also have to due with weight. Resin and metal would be too heavy most likely for the doll to pose with. Unless the sword is thin.

 

Can anyone tell me about how long Ringdoll takes to ship recently? I know they take forever and I'm not impatient. I have a lot of experience with wait times, but the only other Ringdoll I've ever had was in stock, so I'm curious. I'm extremely excited about Baldwin and know I'm looking at a few more months, but I want to know when I can start getting hyped

 

Have any of you seen the pumpkin head? I'm cackling at it, but I do love the vampire skull underneath.

Can anyone tell me the difference between Ringdoll's normal skin and wheat skin? It seems that the wheat is a bit darker and maybe more yellow toned? Is the normal skin more pink toned or is it yellow toned as well but lighter?

 

Ringdoll's normal skin is a pale pink tone.

I don't know about the wheat skin, but the normal colored dolls i have I would say lean a bit more yellow, since they're very close in color to my Loongsoul doll in normal yellow. I have seen some people saying that Ringdoll normal leans more pink though, so it may be that there's not a lot of consistency in their dye lots.

 

All of my normal skin Ringdolls are on the pink side. I have two in wheat and they are kind of a very pale tan with rosy undertones. However, when wheat first came out the sample looked like a normal yellow to me. If you are interested in an in stock doll you could ask them to send you a picture. They have always been very nice when I've had questions.

 

Shockingly, I don't own any dolls that have pink undertones (I'm at 86 full dolls). I'm trying to decide on a doll and Responsible Adult is speaking logically and saying don't buy. However, Dolly Hoarder that I am, says DO IT!!! and I think that side may be winning. The idea that's percolating for the character is hedging towards the lighter normal although I really like coloured resin.

 

So Dolly Hoarder won and I've purchased Ksitigarbha-The Virgo from the in-stock Black Friday sale RD was doing. I had to email them to ask for a different shipping method than was listed (EMS/DHL) as Canada Post is currently on strike and are not accepting ANY mail (from within Canada or internationally) and I know from past experience that both those services will hand off the packages to Canada Post once they clear Customs (they have a service contract with Canada Post). Shipping hurt as not only was FedEx more expensive, the Canadian dollar sucks on exchange rate with the US$. But! he's already shipped out and I'll hopefully see him within the next 10 days-2 weeks. Fingers crossed for me that FedEx doesn't hit me too hard with their BS fees for "handling" Customs paperwork.

 

I finally got around to putting the jointed hands I ordered on my Hawkley.

 

My new boy has arrived! Apparently his flight was rocket powered because he came so fast and FedEx was actually reasonable (and much less than I anticipated) on the fees. RD was even awesome enough to physically put a huge note on the box that FedEx was to deliver directly to my house and NOT hand off to Canada Post (they're still on strike and not accepting any mail/packages or delivering anything) to ensure that I'd get him and not have him sit in a warehouse facility until whenever the strike is over.

He's utterly gorgeous. I wasn't expecting his eyes to be so closed (to be fair, he is the sleeping head). I haven't put eyes in his head yet but it honestly doesn't really matter because they are so closed (but not sealed) you can't even tell. I will be putting some in hopefully today but I'm unsure if I'll make the effort to make him eyes since you can't see them anyway. Still trying to figure out his name and where exactly he fits into my Worlds. He also claimed a wig I didn't think would get used (it didn't fit the doll it was originally for and he hated the colourway for himself). I had thought he'd be the excuse I needed to buy a particular wig (an 8/9) but he's got a 7.75" head so that's a nope (my wallet is happy about that).

He is def pink/peachy toned but not obnoxiously so. It's delicate like a gentle flush to the skin. I'm not sure of his actual date of production (original release in 2019 or something more recent?) so if there is some inconsistency in their batches, I can't speak on if this is the current look. His colour is very close to, but slightly paler, than Luts peach from 2023 (in natural light).

 

Iron_Dog, congrats! Yep, same with the wig, I was very surprised + mine have mod on elf ears and now its a bit more complicated with the wig.

 

@Riku LIN yeah, I wasn't expecting his head to be that size. He looks perfectly proportional but I hadn't clued into that at all from their website. I feel your pain on ears getting in the way of wigs. I have an RS Jun and while his ears are super cool, they're positioned in such a way that most ready-made wigs will not fit on him.

I wanted to do it today but the weather was horrible; with the sky so overcast that I had to turn on lights at like 3pm (sunset is at 4:37pm where I live, so...). When you factor in the terrible lighting in my apartment in general, it was a no-go for anything even close to decent photos.

 

yep, same here, + at my bjd room very dark

 

I did choose eyes for him but in order to see them, I had to shine a super bright flashlight right into his eyes and even then, you can barely see them. I know they're there so it's all good. And focusing on his face for like 1.5 hours made me really appreciate the gorgeous job the RD face-up artist did.

 

Looks like Ringdoll has their doll lucky bags back in stock. I bought a gown one. Is anyone else buying one?

 

@Zacarias - Hawkley!! Now he's a really handsome guy. You don't see him around too often at all. I love the look of those jointed hands, are they Ringdoll too?

@Iron_Dog - Ooh congratulations! I'd love to see some photos of him if you have the time (and light!)

 

The weather has been very... winter in my area with generally terrible lighting. I haven't taken any proper pics yet but it's on my list.

 

Fair enough! The light will return again for photos at some point.

 

Lol, we actually had some sun yesterday for a few hours in the afternoon. But Sunday is the day I play Pathfinder with my group so that was a no-go. Today is again dark and dreary and forecasted to rain again (but at least it's not snow!).
