Ringdoll Grown Dolls, thread #9

Jan 29, 2021

1. I have two RGM-04s - an older one I got second hand, and a newer one (my Elzevir) and the newer one is rock solid yet flexible, but the older one is floppy and weirdly stiff? You'd think they were two completely different bodies. I absolutely do not trust my RGM-03 to stand un-aided, by my much older RGM-02 is still as steady as the day he arrived. It's quite baffling really.

2. For anyone interested, I do have body reviews for the RGM4 (Xie Lian unboxing, who is actually for sale right now!!) and RGM5 (Hua Cheng unboxing) on my youtube channel! I'll link the videos below! After a year of owning them I can definitely say that the RGM5 is sturdier for standing, but I think now the RGM4 poses a little better in the limbs. However I HATE the RGM4's hip joint. It's not super strong (or maybe the legs are heavy) because EVERY TIME I pick him up by the torso, it opens up and the his hips/legs fall. I can definitely see myself one day getting a different body for my comic Xie Lian that's on the way if it has the same problem.

Xie Lian (RGM4) unboxing/body review

Hua Cheng (RGM5) unboxing/body review

3. Ooh thanks for that!
I seem to have the opposite problem with the RGM-04 hip joint - on both the bodies I have it's impossibly stiff and utterly useless. I'd love it if it helps the body slouch a little.

4. It's so interesting we've all had such different experiences with the same bodies xD Like what's going on in there to make them all behave so differently!

• x 1
5. Yeah!! I wonder if it comes down to them being strung tighter/looser or something else

6. It might very well be the stringing itself, but I know that the moulds used to cast the dolls degrade over time - perhaps this also has some effect on the dolls themselves? Tiny little details that aren't noticeable to the naked eye sort of thing?

• x 1
7. It's probably a mix of all those things. Stringing, mold issues, wiring vs no wiring, even as a small factor just the way we position our dolls to stand. I know some of my dolls won't stand unless I put their feet in very specific spots.

Also, I have to say, this conversation has given me a bit of fear that one of my dolls will take a topple while I'm at school! Though I did have some workmen working on my bathroom and they kept walking close to the dolls, and they stayed steady, so maybe they'll be alright.

8. Yes wiring too! My comic ver. Xie Lian will be wired so I'm really curious to see how much of a difference it makes! As for standing, I do have my current ringdolls on the ringdoll stands. I was hesitant to buy them at first because I had to go through ringdoll's site and not just acbjd, so that meant paying for shipping.... But they were honestly the best purchase ever, especially the one for the RGM5! Now I can display them without that falling fear!

9. The only I doll I have that's wired is not on topic for this thread, but after seeing how well he holds his poses I'm definitely going to be giving my older RGM-04 body the wire treatment as well. The only thing I've found wiring does nothing for is the ankles.

10. Comic versión Hua Cheng teaser released [IMG]

I am so excited but also broke right now :sweat I think he will have the new body released recently...

11. I've done SO well resisting comic version Xie Lian but i am soo curious to see Hua Cheng now!!

12. Omg I'm so curious. But not getting him anyway so my wallet is safe. I wasn't a dan of the Xie Lian faces. which also means I'm not getting Hua Cheng. At least I got my WWX and LWJ. <3

13. I'm worried that I'll love him and want to sell my current Hua Cheng which is totally possible, but selling big dolls is a hassleeee :...( I haven't managed to find someone to buy my Xie Lian yet and I'm worried the same will happen for Hua Cheng.

I love my the current Hua Cheng's face sculpt and I'm VERY happy with the doll overall, so there's still a possibility that I'll see the new one and be content with my current one, but if the new one is prettier.... I'm scared for my wallet

14. Ooh he's very handsome!

15. I do want to see more pictures of his face! I like this a lot better than the other version, but the faceup style is very different, so I don't know how much of it is a different sculpt and how much is just the faceup style being different. I also really like his wig and eyepatch.

16. HE'S SO BEAUTIFUL!! However, if I'm trying to convince myself to not buy him and keep my original one... I think I might actually like the first one's face sculpt better! Definitely need more photos, but I like the small bump/upturned-ness of his nose on the first one, whereas this one looks more straight. But then I like how the eyes in this one seem to be a bit smaller. Obviously this outfit is gorgeous, but I don't want to buy him just to get the outfit lol (Ring Doll PLEASE sell it separately!!) and the earring omg I love it and THE WIG!!!! I love that it's styled more!!

Okay I'm not doing a good job of convincing myself not to get him lolol

17. I've been trying to tell myself i could probably, if I weren't afraid of ruining them, give my original Xie Lian and Hua Cheng new face ups to more closely resemble their comic versions with varying degrees of success xD

I do like this new one's outfit but the outfits are actually what i'm the most "ehh" about because I think they did a good job with their original ones! The sleeves for this one though look like they are a LOT easier to manage with the bracers than his original. The way they did those is so annoying xD

18. He’s Lovely, as Hua Cheng always is. I’m attached to the one I already have though so I’m just going to admire other people’s. <3

19. Okay the video they just posted???? The outfit is amazing omgggg

20. Yeah it is really nice!

21. Dianxia arrived today!!! He is gorgeous!!!
Now that RD announced manhua versión Hua Cheng, I feel so anxious for my bank account, but he needs to come home with his gege.

22. 5akuraD1va, Congrats!! How long you waited him? Because I still waiting mine..

23. Augh he's so pretty!!!!

24. I finished the payment plan in first week of february, so almost 3 months and a half.

25. thanks! I hope mine will be shipped soon :|, I closed mine at 5 Jan.

26. The new Hua Cheng looks awesome, and when I saw the video where he is sleeveless I really wished Ringdoll could sell those clothes haha because making my own is a hassle. Apart from that, I'm not very interested, because the sculpt and the make-up are not of my taste. the boyish and wild look of the first sculpt fits more the image I have of Hua Hua, so I prefer the reliable wild card guy over the stoic and elegant type, my wallet can rest easy

• x 2
27. We have a straight on photo of his face!! He’s gorgeous and is really throwing a wrench in my plan to try and keep my original one ahhhh

• x 1
28. Fangxin and his bamboo hat cost more for comic version Xie Lian too :/ His hat was included with the original version

29. I wonder if this time he's metal. He was plastic in the donghua one and doesn't feel very nice, if he was metal it may be worth the extra money? Though I'm not getting him either way

30. I think after all I'm going to hold myself back and not get him. With the combo package he's over $160CAD more tan the donghua one that I own... I'll just have to work on my sewing skills so I can make his manhua outfit maybe!

I also made a side-by-side of the two blank sculpts in case that helps anyone... I actually think that I like the donghua face sculpt better now that I'm seeing them blank!

LEFT= DONGHUA RIGHT= MANHUA

31. I was wondering if new Hua Cheng had a different head sculpt.

Roughly how long is RingDoll wait times?

32. RozenMaiden_Girl, interesting question. For me it looks like random now. I ordered XL 2.0 at 22.09.2023 and still waiting. Lan Wangji 2.0 was ordered 28.11.2023 and received him 04.06.2024.

33. Officially for preorders it's up to 180 days, but it can depend on when during the preorder you order and if you're ordering through a dealer, which one. If you place your order really early during the preorder, they sometimes have some in stock that they send out pretty quickly. It also depends on the complexity of the outfit I think. I think Crown Prince Xie Lian has taken longer than anticipated because he's got so much detailing.

34. Why are the comic ver preorders 5/6 months long? Is RD planning only 1 release?

35. Generally that's what they've done for their licensed dolls. They did a very short flash rerelease for the initial version of Xie Lian when they released the first Hua Cheng, but other than that these dolls only get one run and aren't available after that except second hand.

• x 1
36. Hua Cheng was rereleased too. I thought it went like 2/3 months preorder then a rerelease the year after. But the long preorder period for the comic ver feels like no rereleases.

37. Ah, I ordered through Alice Collections and got full set Jia Xu. I expect to wait 6 months. And that he will get her September or October.

38. Finally I preorder Comic version Hua Cheng, I got the second batch, supposed to be shipped in mid October:celebrate.
Also Xie Lian comic version will be shipped next week. :D I am so happy:chibi

39. Congratulations! I’m debating whether to get a MengHe 2.0, bc the sculpt is beautiful and the RGMbody-6 is gorgeous, but I really don’t need another boy. Ugh!

40. My Hawkley arrived today.

45. Hello all <3 I’ve recently started looking at Ringdoll dolls again, after shying away from them for many years due to their use of French resin. Can someone who have recently ordered and received their doll confirm or deny if this is still the case before I fall in love with one of their sculpts? I’m mostly interested in their mature 1/4 boys, Zhou Yu and Raymond. Additionally, do any of you have any experience with the RKBody-9 and what it’s like to pose/how well it poses?

46. @Fractal I have the Raymond full set. The body is awesome. It has little detents in the joints so it holds poses! And he arrived in wonderful briefs! I have ordered Zhou Yu also! Is there a specific pose you would like to see?

47. id love to see if they can sit like.. with one leg across the other? I’m more concerned with resin quality than posability though, as the other male dolls I’ve considered are icky on different levels xD with Ringdoll I’m just concerned they are still using French resin (which I don’t want)

48. Here's my Zenitsu (on RGM-4) sitting with one leg over the other. Apologies for his lack of pants right now, I'm making him a new set but have been so busy with work and school that he's been Winnie-the-Pooh-ing it lately.

49. Pretty sure they've not used French resin in years, all of mine appear completely normal, including my most recent doll from them, bought a little over a year ago.

• x 3
50. The resin Ringdoll is using lovely. Since the new guys are closer to msd size, I have posted my picture of two crossed legs poses in the msd thread: Ringdoll Mini Discussion

51. Hey guys! I have quite a long youtube video on the new Xie Lian doll if that helps anyone out! It covers what he comes with, the doll itself and a body review (I got the body wired), an outfit closeup, and then comparisons between this one and the first Xie Lian doll! Hua Cheng also ends up making an appearance lol

• x 6
52. Ooh the direct comparison is interesting to see!

• x 1
53. Oh no, he's stunning! Oh I can feel my poor wallet quivering in fear.

54. To many pretty dolls coming out at once!

• x 1
55. I've been trying to hold back on Ringdoll the entire time I was in the hobby! The last one I almost caved for was Kashira waaaaayyyy back. they've had so many gorgeous ones, but none I've been seriously considering buying until I got Hua Cheng. And he's amazing! But this Baldwin doll has officially sealed the deal for me. I'd give anything for more "real but fantasy take" historical style dolls and this is one I love irl so I'm in trouble :XD:

There's always something to break the no doll ban. Does anyone think his hands look jointed? He's just too cool

• x 1
56. Oh jointed hands would be awesome!
I do need to wire my old pair of RD joined hands. The elastic is starting to wear out and he's having a hard time holding things. :sweat
