Honestly i hadn't noticed that June is a long wait though...! Hopefully RD aren't using that as a goal for XL's shipping date

 

Found this photos I downloaded back in January (they aren't mine, so if anyone objects, I will remove). XL in these is not the prototype, more of a cosplay, both look excellent though (one reason why have been waiting for them to be released )

 

@Angelesk - Assuming it was made in their studio (cast or not) I wonder how many of their staff were working on it full time? I'd like to know how they made it and what it's made from. It's cool!


@Cloudedmind - I think so too, but for some reason it also looks familiar? Almost like one of their much, much older sculpts. Perhaps I'm imagining things.

@fionvarre - Oh new previews? Are they up on Instagram?

But at first glance, I thought that Hua Cheng was the Xie Lian's real sculpt. I was so confused as to WHY they switched them.

They're amazing though!!

 

@kyukyukyu according to the owner, the dolls are both Wei Wuxian. Xie Lian definitely has a custom faceup, but the photos aren't HD enough for me to identify if Hua Cheng still has the default Wei Wuxian faceup or not.

These shots were taken at one of the TGCF collaboration cafes, but they aren't wearing Ringdoll prototype outfits. I recognize the Hua Cheng outfit (from a Taobao shop whose products are way too expensive for my budget, since they're usually at the same price range as official outfits), but the Xie Lian one is too generic for me to recognize which shop it's from.

@Quiet and Insane you may be thinking of QinZe from their Story of South City line. That doll's character was an opera actor, and he was wearing the same type of female role wig as Kun.

I see that Ringdoll's posted the photos of Sun Ce on their Facebook account, but I saw them first on Weibo.

 

Thanks @fionvarre I love how bjds are so customisable, I didn't realise they were the same sculpt, I just knew they were both Ringdoll. And many thanks for confirming the photos' origin (January seems so so long ago) whoever did this cosplay is very talented

 

@fionvarre - Yes that's the one I was thinking of! It's been a while since I last perused their older sculpts.

He looks fantastic, and the RGM-3 body is really nice; I'm impressed with it's posing so far. The outfit is amazing as well - so much detail! I did post a full-length photo of the outfit in the waiting room for anyone who's interested.

Hopefully I'll be able to get around to taking some more photos soon in much better lighting!

 

@Girrl - He looks even better in person than he does on their website - the sculpting is so unique and detailed. I adore all of his angles and lines. It was always a toss-up between Padro and K, and I am so glad I went for Padro for this character! (I'm also gad I still have K in action figure form too! ) Now I need to get all of his things in order, eyes, wig, clothing, I was completely unprepared! But the gang's all here now.

@Zaliayn - Wow, he's so handsome!! Ringdoll do go above and beyond with some of their outfits.

Employee/staged box opening to drum up interest perhaps? One way to showcase what you will get when XL finally arrives

@kyukyukyu That's a good point. Totally possible...or maybe they had some kind of lottery at that Shanghai event and she was the winner? Anyway, there's now a part 2 of her box opening if you're interested! Edited my post above to add the link.

 

@marci12 I no longer think this was a staged box opening and your suggestion of lottery winner(s) or similar more feasible.. found another longer video which clearly shows the sculpt (and doesn't have the really bad knife skills 1:50 got my skin jumping)...

The head sculpt is now really growing on me and really different from any of my other bjds

So, I could be wrong but I had read on Twitter somewhere that Ringdoll already had about 15 Xie Lan’s in stock for immediate delivery!

I was told when I ordered that he would be ready by the end of this year, but I don’t really believe it

Whoever already got his is so lucky….he looks beautiful!

I think it was somewhere on their listing in Taobao, I am not sure but it does seem they must have had a few in stock I guess it doesn’t really apply to us international buyers though

Alice Collection’s told me that Xie Lan is time and also quantity limited for 2,000!

 

Interesting! Especially the 2000 limitation... is this the full set or does this include the head sculpt. Mentions this is the first release, so any left from the first rolls over to the second and when 2000 is hit the sale auto closes? Hmmm

Does anyone know what the local price is in yuan for the local market? Or is that an awkward question something I have been curious about from time to time

 

@Amakai - Ahhhh he's lovely! Good luck with his face up! Don't worry too much much if you're not happy with it the first time around. They are tricky when you're first starting out. I think I re-did my first few half a dozen times each before I was happy.

@SteamWitch - Welcome back Pathfinder! I like his new facial hair.

 

It's funny how dolls do that sometimes. At least he wasn't "gone" for long!

That's amazing, I love meeting the artist/creator (usually art, pottery or ceramics), but with BJDs meeting the sculptor would be something I would never consider to happen

Ugh...guys... I said that I wouldn't but.... I ordered Xie Lian.
I can't deal with myself right now. However, I also couldn't imagine not having him and Hua Cheng~
So I guess Ringdoll will just own whatever soul I have left after this.

 

@Angelesk haha, same I just knew after missing out on WWX and LWJ, I couldn't not get XL, and most likely HC (I have a feeling the latter's outfit is going to be stunning)

 

I missed out on them too, which...I'm "ok" with. But I couldn't stop thinking about Xie Lian and Hua Cheng, even though it will be odd to have dolls that I can't really dress in much more than what they'll come in. (Although Xie Lian does have a few different outfits I could attempt to recreate) I think Hua Cheng is going to be gorgeous too!~

It dosen't look like a makeup from a company at all!!!

Hahahah whenever they release military uniforms I'm happy. That's all I need

 

I love their military-esque uniforms. Though I'd love a good Old West style outfit for my Padro.

 

DUDE. I immediately thought of something like straight out of WestWorld. That would be epic!

I was being nitpicky to convince myself not to buy him since I don't have room or money for a full size doll. Some points I have are that he looks too young for my image of Xie Lian. I'm too fond of STARember's art of him and I'd want the doll if it looked like her art. This issue can't be fixed by just redoing the faceup. She draws him with a longer face. And something that tickled me was the way ringdoll featured Ruoye. Knowing the lore behind Ruoye then seeing that it's just a limp ribbon... I mean it could've had a wire in it.

 

XL's outfit is pretty basic but that is canon. Definitely could have done more with Ruoye, the ribbon looks rather cheap and nasty and had the intention to pop into a haberdashery when I get XL in the hope to find something more suitable.

I am actually not a fan of Starember, her art work is really not to my personal taste, couldn't even get past the first chapter because of it so no loss for me

This Ringdoll XL is based/licensed on the cartoon version so taking that into account I think they have done ok ... I think I maybe lenient on the younger face as I don't have a sculpt like that and when(if?) Ringdoll get around to releasing HC his face should(hopefully!) be thinner/sharper should provide a good contrast between the pair ...

 

I also love Starember's art. I've been following him on Weibo.

Thankfully, I don't have much interest in getting any of the dolls.

 

That's why I don't have any expectations on san lang /: I think the same @mintmew_ the problem starts with the mold itself.
It's weird because I think that CRYAN looks just like xie lian, what do you all think?

 

They look completely different to me. Their mouths are vastly different, same with their eyes and noses. The only thing I'd say is similar is their jawline.

 

@Concf I agree with Quiet and Insane. I kind of like that CRYAN's mouth is slightly open to match XL in all his dialogue panels.

 

I recently received my lucky bag doll (a Zhou Yu), and I just finished his faceup today, so I thought I'd share a couple pictures of him ^^ (his permanent wig and outfit haven't arrived yet, so he's borrowing the wig)
