Ring Doll Teens

Feb 22, 2010

1. I carried my Wagashi around Ohayocon all day sat. and my arms never got close to tired. That said, I also have carried large props around, and I work with large animals at school (think throwing 45 lbs of hay around and pulling large carts) and I play a heavy base trombone. I would call myself average in arm strength all the same.

I don't own or have access to other BJD, but from the ones I held, she felt about average.

I believe my girl is about 3-5 lbs. because she weighs about as much as a "dead weight" (ie. just got out of surgery and is still sedated) lighter cat. She feels about the same as my 6 lbs. tabby, but that's with my tabby wide awake and moving. I'm pretty confident that she weighs less than my tabby if I had to bear the full weight of my cat.

Hope that helps!

2. I have another random question...

RingDoll Jessica's fullset comes with two heads, a normal face-up head and a dark side face-up head. Would anyone happen to have pictures of both, or be able to direct me to pictures of both? I'm thinking of ordering a Jessica, but to lower the price I may have to just order one head rather than get them both.

3. So far, I've only bought dolls (two of them) from a place that only sells direct. (Dream of Doll) Ringdoll is the first I've been interested in that also uses third-party vendors, such as Alice's Collections.

Since it is near certain that I'm going to get a Valo B and a Pan B, I would like to ask, has anyone noticed a difference between buying from a third party and buying direct from the vendor? The prices seem the same. I don't mean the reliability of each, since that's an issue for the feedback forums, but rather are there generally advantages/disadvantages of each?

4. I thought I wanted Wagashi next but now i'm not sure >.<

5. *_* I have tried every pair of pants that my dolls own on my Ring teen and NOTHING fits him. Has anyone found pants that fit the ring teen guys? Has anyone found a sewing type person doing commissions for ring teen sized pants?

6. I made pants for mine. you can commission me if you want. I also tried the same pants on my customhouse ai boy body and they fit. so maybe if you find some that fit them...
this is the outfit I made for my Pan, isn't he awesome?!
I think his faceup needs to have less gloss though...do you have any idea how many people thought he was a girl?! even when he was shirtless! *sigh*

7. :o Wow that oufit is amazing! Will be pming you.

8. I believe that the Ringdoll teenagers eye size is 14 mm. :)

9. I'm actually currently saving up for a Ring teenager Spencer. He's just so pretty! :D

Except, I'm going to order him with the 59cm female body. As weird as that sounds, it's actually Ringdoll's own fault for giving me that idea, since they actually use Spencer's head to model the female body.

10. I got my first RD on August eighth, but my friend has had one for almost a year now, and I love their bodies. Unfortunately for me, I ordered mine during the whole fiasco..... So, it was nearly a nine month wait for my boy, but I love him!

11. My Wagashi uses 16 mm eyes and I think they look nice on her. Maybe boys and girls have different eyesizes?

12. I have all my boys wearing 12 or 14mm eyes, but I think it depends on the look you want and the eye size. I think the girls do have slightly bigger eyes so 16mm could work. Pictures? :D?

Random shot of my RD family~

13. Lovely picture of your dolls, their outfits are so well detailed. Has Ringdoll got their act together yet?

14. derilan85: Thanks. ^^ And yes, Ringdoll finally has their act together. Nothing seems amiss besides the occasional not-so-good faceup. :P

15. Akai Okami, I loved your guys!!

16. Hi, jumping in here on behalf of my Ringdoll Pan!
I hear people having some issues with pants, but I seem to be able to find pants that fit him well.
Although one thing I do suggest is investing in a belt! @@ They do have skinny waists don't they? hehe.

Though my main concern is their S hook. It's not a typical design for one so I have NO idea where to get one like it ><;;;. Does anyone know what I mean? Has anyone else had this problem?

17. Which S hook do you mean? his head one or wrists and ankles? The thin wrist and ankle ones can be found at dollzone or through Denver doll even. The head one, I did not notice anything unusual about it...though why I would need an extra I don't know.
Belts are always good, but if you do know a maker of pants that fit by name it would be welcome. Belts can tent to make things look frumpy if needed to make things too much tighter, plus...all your pants would need good belt loops, not all styles have them.

18. AnnoDomini: If you need to replace their S hook, just get a normal one in the correct size. It doesn't have to be a ring or C shape. The typical S will work just as well I'm sure. :)

I've found that most normal SD pants will fit them. Dollmore 60cm skinny pants, for example, fit wonderfully! They may be a teeny bit short, but if the doll wears boots or shoes with a high top..thing, it looks perfect. ^^

19. Hate to double post, but this is important. A word of warning to those who own Ringteen boys: CHECK THEIR KNEES. I've had two crack now, on two different boys where were made at different times. The resin is sooo thin there and the knee cap piece takes a lot of stress when the knee bends past 90 degrees. PLEASE everyone check their boys regularly!

20. Oh my god, I have recently gotten my Ringdoll Teen Body and wow! This is the most beautiful male BJD body I've ever seen. He poses so well, too. I'm not quite a friend of the canadian resin, but I've already coated his hands with MSC and now it looks way less shiny and translucent, which I appreciate. The white skin has a bit of a sickly greenish tint, but this suits my character really well, so it's fine. :D

21. Wow I'm glad to see ringdoll booming. I'm on here on behalf of my baby Asher (Ringdoll Ran A Style). I gotta say as he was my first doll purchase he was absolutely the right way to go. I'm so happy I got him. Now that Ringdoll has sorted out its mess I really reccomend them.

That aside, it's time I buy my boy some new clothes, eyes, wigs, etc, and I was hoping to get some help. What other companies clothes work well on the Ringdoll Teen body? And what sizes of eyes and wigs are the best?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated

22. as for clothes...it's tough...they are rather slender in the waist and long torso'd but also long legged. The eyes and wigs I can help with. size 14mm works best so far as I've found. Wigs are size 8-9. Even though the head does tend to look small...it's still SD sized...but small SD, so 8-9. I tend to make clothes for my pan...but I've found dollheart SD13 shirts and jackets fit...pants might be a little loose on the waist but a little short on the legs. I was thinking of doing some measurements for my Ringdoll Teen boy too, as I just did my CH boy. I'll post that later.
here's a random new shot of my boy, Philippe. for spammage.

23. Wow, he's beautiful!
And I was also wondering about what clothing fits them. I've gotten a volks SD13 clothing set for girls and I was amused by the fact that it was a perfect fit, hahaha. The SD13 pants I've gotten for him had to be made tighter to fit, though. ^_^;

24. @ Teseya: Thanks! Like you said they were right there on Dollzone accessories page XD.
Thanks for the response.

@Akai Okami: Really? That's good to know. I wasn't sure since their arm holes are so tiny ><.
And I'll go check my boy now @@. I check him all the time, but I agree, that spot is incredibly easy to miss.@@

25. Who is thinking this ringdoll stuff up? Hot on the heels of the "high ranking officers of ringdoll [robofascist] army" comes a mass-murdering jester (+hamburger). Geesh! Kinda gotta love the weirdness.

26. Tell me about it. I'm a little scared to see what they come out with next. We should make a guessing game! I bit someone will be like, a vampire bat, or a half-plant half-human, lol!

27. The whole army/uniform thing doesn't really surprise me since it seems to be a popular theme for BJD clothes, but man that hamburger guy...LOL. His story is...how to say, "whack"? :P

28. Am I the only one finding their heads (I have a Petter head on a female body) quite huge??
I only have an Iplehouse EID to compare to but at least she can go bald without shame.. This one feels really silly :P Poor Petter.. >.<

29. No you're not the only one. Pan's face is centered in the middle of his head, making it look quite large
compared to other dolls who's faces are more 'spread out' I've always known my little darling had a 'big head' XD

30. Since this thread has way to much information to take in at one time, I'm just going to ask my question and be directed to the correct page if it happens to be asked already.
Is it possible to take a Dylan head and place it on a teen body and make it look nice? Or will it only look ridicilus? I really want the Dylan head but a kid body is just too small for my character.
Thank you in advance or sorry for repost. :P

31. In general, MSD heads do not fit or look good on SD bodies. The proportions are way off. :( I know how frustrating it is though, to find a doll you want, but have them be the wrong size. I hope you find what you are looking for!

32. So how is everyone's RingTeens doing? :)

Mine are just...wonderful. Here's Ripley on his smoke break:

33. Akai Okami, Ripley really needs to quit smoking or his beautiful skin will go bad :P

On another note, does anyone here, but me - have the RTG60-1 body?
I'm curious as to what would fit nicely on it.. :P

34. I've not been taking much photos of my boy recently :/ dividing the time for my other dolls -_-;;

Here's a few photos of my Pan,took last year...

35. Aww rhapsodies En has always been such the little cutie pie ><
I love him with that red hair as well! ><

@Akai okami: What a great looking Don!! ><
I like the military set, it looks good :)

36. haha Ripley isn't the kinda guy to care about taking care of himself. xD (or he wouldn't be smoking!)

Spencer~

37. Ooo love those eyes on Spencer, Akai!
Lookin good, lookin good! My boy is away
for a face up right now and I already miss
him so much :/ I'll spam some pics when he gets
back though! XDDD

38. Oh~ Can't wait to see his new look! :) I love seeing Pan with non-defualt faceups. ♥

39. Thank you Akai! I hope he comes back
looking even better than before! XD

there ya go^_^ a Pan with a non default faceup. It took me about a year of owning him to finally get his redone. I love it! Hope your turns out just as well, AnnoDomini. ^_^

41. Aww your boy is so cute Teseya! I really like the expression his eyebrows give to his face!
What's his name? And thanks for the well wishes! ^^ I'm so excited as his last face up began
to chip at the nose @,@

42. His name is Philippe. He is a post apocalypse orphan who is almost blind from the bright sun of the dessert. But he has learned to take care of himself and gets around rather well. He can read the winds and all.
His old faceup was just too...shiny...and made him look like a girl. I love this shape of eyebrows...he is the 3rd1st of my dolls to have this shape and probably not the last. It gives him a thoughtful yet soulfull and direct expression.

43. Aww! What an interesting story, poor thing!
I'd love to hear more about it as I absolutely
love original stories and their OCs!! XDD

I never saw pan with the default face up
because RD got my order wrong and sent
him blank @,@ The eyebrows do give him that feel
you're spot on XD Thanks for sharing with us XDD

44. My first sd doll, wasa ringdoll Pan. He was good at standing, but I had truble with his head on photos. I think it was becauseit is sircular. A friend of mine, owns him now. I am thinking of buying another head for her ringdoll boy. Have anyone a suggestion?

45. Ok, did anyone else see Hayato? He was there for like a week and now he's not on their site anymore? What's up with that? I was considering ordering him later on...

Samael (my Shao) is not impressed by his ninja skills. xD

46. Hello? Any other Ringdoll owners out there? I want to hear what everyone's been up to with their boys and girls! :)

47. Oh hi Akai, i'm here! I'm going to upload a couple pics of my boy soon, though the face up
he has might change after that. @.@

Oh wow where did you get those jointed hands from?
Your boy sure is cute =w=

48. oh sorry...I meant to post the new pics I took of Philippe:

I have found that he takes marvelous photoshoots...but is hard to take to meetups b/c he's so stiff. The stiffness is perfect for holding poses in photoshoots but makes it hard to make him look randomly relaxed and normal at meet photos. He's so beautiful though.

49. Anno: Ooh, I'd love to see! :D Yeah..I've had to redo faceups on my Ringdolls before. In fact I'm thinking of redoing my pirate's faceup too..I'm just lazy. It's good enough for now. lol Sam and Ripley both have jointed hands from Dikadoll. They are in normal yellow, and the match isn't perfect but it's close enough I don't mind. They pose wonderfully! Best jointed hands I've ever played with. And since the Ringteen boys have fairly stiff straight hands...I like the option of jointed fingers for them. :)

Teseya: Wonderful photos~ And yes, they can be a bit stiff, but I've hot glue sueded their torsos so they can slouch and look more natural. The main trouble I have is getting them to stand with straight legs! Sam can do it, but Spencer and Ripley just...ugh. haha But those two are from the 2011 crisis so i question their quality. They both have repaired knees too...hmm.

That reminds me. Is everyone checking their boy's knees regularly? :) I always check after a long play session...I'm so paranoid about it. xD

50. @Akai: Here's a pic of my boy with his new face up. I love it but I think his character
comes off better with a more natural look. :)
It's like Ringdoll has jointed hands themselves, but they're only for 70cm boys :( Also
I heard that their resin has changed since then so I don't think they'll work at all anyways.

@Teseya: Oh the stiffness, tell me about it! My boy stands like a rock, and the joint system
is made really well, but his upper torso is sooo stiff. He just snaps back into place if you try and
make him slouch or bend. Anno also needs to be sueded because of that. I'm half excited, half nervous to
do the hot glue sueding. @.@
I hope I'll do it right.

[IMG][/IMG]

51. He looks wonderful~ I love his silvery eyes. *o* <3 Is he in the old resin? If so then yeah, matching hands to him will be difficult because of the color and the resin type. Although I think they are still using environmental resin, but the newer batches in the last year or so are less translucent. Hot glue sueding can be fun~ I don't even unstring them when doing it. (unless they are really tight)

I'm still wondering what happened with Hayato. :nowords: I was seriously considering getting him in the next few months..but he poofed off their website. Maybe they put him up too soon? I really loved his face! T__T I'd message them but..I'd feel weird since I have no money to get him. lol

52. Thank you~ The eyes were so beautiful I couldn't pass them up ^^
Yeah, he's the old resin type. I think I got him right before they switched
it. @.@ His head has always been more translucent than his body, so matching
it is difficult sometimes.

Wow, you can suede with the elastic still in? Got any tips? I need to restring him anyways
but you an never have enough dolly maintenance tips XD

You know, Hayato did just disappear didn't he! Had you not pointed it
out, I wouldn't have noticed. That's how quickly he just went 'poof!'

53. Thought so. My Spencer's head is translucent, but his body isn't, so I have that same problem. I often take photos and desaturate them in some way to hide the difference.

Hot glue tips huh. Well, this is just how I do it, and it works great for me.
[IMG][IMG][IMG]

Basically, you just pull the parts apart. With the torso I pull it apart and sort of fold it over. Once there it stays easily. Spencer is kind of loose though..but that's to help preserve his poor breaking knees. xD You can also see the glue already in his torso...looks like some of it needs to be redone. It's starting to peel a bit. I haven't put any in his arms, but I pulled the shoulder away to show how I do that as well. If I want a full circle of glue I just wait until it cools (blowing on it usually), and then pull it the other way. However, Spencer has been taken apart and blushed and the coating of MSC in his joints helps him hold poses without needing hot glue or wires. :)

54. @Akai: Wow, I see it now!
Good to know I'm not the only one with the translucent head problem @.@
I bought some Mungyo pastels and msc last year and knowing that tip about
the msc helping with posing makes me itch to try it! XD

Did you do the blushing yourself?
Thanks for the tips btw! =3

55. The MSC in the joints gives the resin something to grab onto instead of just sliding smoothly against itself. (why does that sound dirty? xDD)

Yes, I did his blushing. I'm no professional, but I can do it and get it done how I like it..which is lightly and just on the torso. (though I sealed everything) I need to do his hands at some point. Otherwise he's usually covered up and in shoes. Usually.

56. You did a good job!~
It's like he's saying "Yeah, I know I look good!"

I want to give my boy a small manicure,
but I think I'll watch some more tutorials first
before I go all out! lol

And don't get me started on blushing
the man bits! @.@ I think I'll leave that alone for now XD

57. Oh, he's well aware of his good looks. And LOL yeah. No need to blush the bits unless they'll be shown off for some reason. :P Though it is kinda nice if you're going for a complete look. Personal preference in the end.

58. Right~
I don't mind either way. I have seen some body blushing
I wasn't very fond of, so I hope I can replicate the look I'm
going for well. Have you ever thought of wiring for posing?

I wondered how easy it was to do?

59. Wiring? It's really easy, I think. Hardest part is fining coated wire! Once you do you cut to the size needed, cover the tips with tape or hot glue, and insert! If they are really tightly strung you will have to unstring them and put the wires in as you restring them.
