Ring Doll Teens

I'm still a bit sad that I didn't order the full set when I had the chance. I hesitated for 3 days and by the time I went back they were all gone. But if that hadn't happened I wouldn't have my current project of putting together a fancy Junko Enoshima (from Danganronpa) set for the Scarlett Faust sculpt. I finally just got all the measurements I need from user Peachy and just have to wait now.

 

Ahh I had ordered Hui as well! It should be getting close to the end of his processing time and I'm so! Excited!

My White Rabbit, big full set, arrived at FF&D - minus his wig and a sword I added.
but, yay! 7 months production in an 8-month layaway. one more payment to go while we see if RD will ship missing elements right away.
if not, I'll get him by the end of the month. Wheat resin. Looking forward to seeing that IRL.

no pics yet of WR teen. have to admit it's just not love. perhaps dressing him will help. I like all his components, his face, but not the body so much. he might not stay.

The teen body is much different from the grown body. It still poses well.

 

His face is just right IMO. Not such a boy. rather serious young man. those elbow joints (and knees to some extent) are bulky.
I'm used to #4 bodies. very subtle jointing. The rabbit masks are works of art!
we'll see if he makes friends or packs up. the wheat looks like any other normal with some pink to it. my normal Gain looks more like what wheat looks like.
I was going to post a comparison but noticed nudity. will take another tomorrow or someday.

 

@petiteballerine Is it the look or "posing" that is the "issue"?

 

Finally had time to play with the new boy. After changing his pants, his wig, his jacket style and covering the heavy joints that I don't care for, he met the gang. Or, some of them. He's a handsome lad, more mature than I'd imagined. Every faceup is different I guess.



I really like the way his upper chest joint works letting him slouch as he sits. I wish my grown #4 guys did the same, but then I wish new guy had their subtler arm and leg joints.

@petiteballerine Congrats! He is beautiful.
I know what you mean about those joints . The grown 4 is their newest body so it has all the improvements. Your teen is on the sunshine body which is a little better than the teen 2. I think I have 4 of the t2 and 1 sunshine.

 

@SteamWitch - that's interesting info. I thought the T3 was newer than the grown 4. strange that the grown can bend backwards but not forward. makes them look very doll-like when sitting. bulky joints here sits beautifully, bends so nicely from side to side, as you know.

He is a lovely lad, isn't he? very serious. I like that height a lot. he has fairly small eyes which helps him fit in with my crew.
He has a very sexy torso and wide shoulders. I think he'll need to wear a long-sleeved shirt - unbuttoned to hide his flaws and show off his good features. *winkwink*

I've ordered some jointed hands for him. Doll Family H. I have some tan ones and the size is perfect.

Im new to Ringdoll...what do you guys think of Messenger. I cant decide between getting Messager or Hui the Warlock version. Both sculpt look very similar except one with a real faceup while the other with a darker theme faceup.
Does anyone have a pic of the body and how it poise?

 

About posing... I played around with my boy last night and I really struggle with getting him to stand!
Any tips, please..?
So, unfortunately, @Tangmalangaloo, I feel I cannot really help. But what sort of pics are you after?

 

I have the same issue....My Aooni can stand (not like a rock though) without socks or shoes, but when he has his fullset shoes on (geta shoes), I did not manage to get him to stand.
So for now he's barefoot.

 

White Rabbit stands very well in his slightly heeled shoes. he slouches like a real boy when he sits (if you want him to) and can sit with crossed legs - which, unfortunately shows off those ugly shelves of resin over his knees. can touch his face and lie down on his stomach to read a magazine with back slightly arched.
Not much more I could ask of him.

He's fully suited up at the moment which limits poses 4 pics.

Maybe it is the stringing then..? (or just an Aooni issue )
I have tried with both no shoes, shoes, and with kips in both hips and ankles. So I have taken him apart, and I don't think I could string him any tighter than he is. Any less and he would be too loose...?
So all I can do is to try and tighten the strings then...

 

@Yumeiro - Do his legs kick? That's usually a sign that a doll is strung too tight.
If he crumples when you try to stand him, he's too loose.
Be careful of stringing him really tight. Resin can crack under enough stress.

 

@petiteballerine Neither...
I played around some more, and it mostly seem to be an issue with the ankles/feet joints. (I think the hook needs to be bent a bit too, as it tends to get caught/stuck against the resin in the ankle)
Hot-glue sueding next? He sure plans to keeping me busy.

 

I'm new to ringdoll too! I just ordered Messager. I was choosing between him and Hui as well. But Messager's natural face up appealed to me more! I haven't bought a bjd in years. Really excited right now!

 

it's strange how dolls have their little quirks. and that changes as they age - just like with people.
hot glue can work wonders.

congrats on Messenger. He's got such a delightful face and I love the outfit and accessories.

*dances in* my White Rabbit dropped into my lap yesterday! No shipping notice, and I thought I was picking up a head from another company that I did get notice for, so the giant box full of doll was a surprise, but yay! He's here!

 

Ugh, I give up!
Despite hot-glue sueding, and restringing and all, he still pretty much refuses to stand (without aid)!
So again, you guys get your boys to stand on flat surfaces, bare-feet or with shoes, without them wanting to tip over (beyond what is expected with BJDs)? Like, a full on "Michael Jackson lean". (gluing his feet to the floor would not even help)
I do not know what else I can do, but find a new body... And I've heard such good things about Ringdoll bodies too...

 

So, I have ordered Messenger's head around two weeks ago. I can not believe so little time passed.

I've been following the discussion and enjoying everyone's dolls, even though I haven't had time to comment on the threads I follow. I just love the pics posted, @sleepinghazard , @gaiboiozz , @petiteballerine. Everyone's dolls are just wonderful! I finally got a chance to take some pictures of my LRRH as I have her styled instead of in her full set. Her Ringdoll face up feels so much sweeter than the outfit they put her in, cool as it is.

Glad to finally be able to contribute instead of lurking.

I seem to recall noticing the same thing when I was trying to decide whether or not to order the full set. I ultimately decided not to and instead commissioned a wig from Etsy artist SophyMolly for my Junko build. The Scarlett Faust wig looks really lovely too though from the photos, so it's a shame if they don't/won't offer it for individual sale.

 

I'd really like the cyanapthy wig for my andrew.

I have been driving myself nuts trying to remember where I had seen that outfit. My memory is terrible, especially for names, and I completely missed the connection there. Lmao,I love Danganronpa, and she looks perfect! Can't believe I missed that with the image and the name right there. You did such a great job on Junko!

 

I was wondering- and maybe this isn't the appropriate place to ask for recommendations (just let me know and I'll edit my post) but I adore the texture of Ringdoll's resin.. the way they sand/buff makes the doll feel matte and weighty, but smooth and soft. Do your dolls feel this comfy?? Do you know if other companies have a similar touch-feel to them?

 

Do anyone know if the Ringteen body could potentially wear SD17 or SD13 clothes? I felt like the measurements lie somewhere in between and I'm struggling to decide.

 

I use SD13-16 on my teen bodies. Their arms and legs are too short for SD17. Though the sunshine body has wider shoulders than the older teen, so make sure it's SD13 and up, not SD10-13.

I just got a Doll Family H doll that has the same feel as Ringdoll.

 

Thanks. Ringdoll site states that the teen body is 64cm high, that's only 1cm difference from the standard SD17, but it's a relief to hear they could fit SD13 as well, I bought some clothes for them in that size thinking they were around 60-62cm.

 

@Sachiko14 Here is a comparison between Ringdoll teen 3 body 64cm and Migidoll SD 65cm body. Ringdoll's body might be more than 1 cm shorter, plus it is thinner though does have wide shoulders. I have found that Ringdoll body height measurements are not that accurate, due to casting or molds (or possibly due to extra sanding?) I think SD 13 will be fine.

IDK why Ringdoll is so determined to get my business when I've already sworn I wouldn't buy from them again until they get their wait times under control....

I used to have a DiYue but I sold him and regretted it so I bought another. He is going through a transition right now. He won't be the same character as before but he will be given lots of attention for a while. Here is my boy in borrowed wig and clothes. I like these eyes for him though.

Depends on the head, on how well it looks. They should fit, I have the RGM1 and RGM3 bodies and have tried the teen head fit on the 1. Some of the teen heads are not age appropriate for the grown body and look (bobblehead) weird. The more mature heads should work.
