Resinsoul and Bobobie Mini Discussion Thread - Part 33

Aug 5, 2021

    1. It's getting close to my Daytime's due date, though if they're forgetting to send emails then I might not know when he ships.

I should probably start trying to find a name for him, and order his hair when I get paid.

      • x 3
    2. @Leader of the Rats - I've never gotten a shipping notice from RS, nor did I see a status change on their website. If it's close to time, he might already be in the mail. Just FYI.

    3. My situation has gone from bad to worse. They sent the new body, that I was led to believe was the same as the one I had but with a smaller bust - but it’s actually the mei body.

The xi head is massive, no way can it work on this tiny thing! I’m over it. I think I’m just going to send it all back and give up.

      • x 4
    4. Oh man, I'm so sorry about that... how on earth did they manage that?

    5. ^cough^cough^

    6. uh, my girl come!

      here she is

    7. Is that Denver doll? Sounds like they might have just sent whatever they had in stock in the right colour. That's so frustrating.

      • x 1
    8. @Samsimfoe congratulations, she's so cute! She looks ready for adventure in her boots and bunny hood dress. :D

      • x 1

    9. Yeah that’s probably what they did. But the good news is, I decided to keep her anyway- broken leg and all- and sent the smaller body back. They’re supposedly getting me a new leg from resinsoul, and in the meantime I patched the break with milliput. I put her back together tonight and she seems to be holding! And the movement on my resculpted ankle is better than the original lol
Which makes me wish I’d bothered to match the epoxy to her leg. It’s white.

but anyway it’s over (mostly) and I have a functional doll finally!

thanks for listening to me whine!

    10. In terms of doing modifications/customizing at customer request, what's the limit? I've seen the two head, four arm, and cyclops mods, and I keep looking at the site and wondering if some of the ideas banging around in my head are doable or not. Thinking of stuff like requesting cyborg panel-style engraving (think Batchix's robot BJDs) or seeing if Dawn could be modded to have cloven hooves vs horse hooves and the horse tail left off, with a deer tail in its place.

    11. I haven't visited this thread in forever, and it's been so much fun seeing everyone's new dolls! I love Daytime.

I still have my original bunch, but last week I went ahead and ordered Lu. With all the new sculpts going on, I picked one of the oldies... She's been on my wishlist forever, though, so I figured it was time...

Meanwhile, though, here's an old picture of Columbine and Tarragon. Because I can't just drop in without leaving spam!!;)

    12. They're absolutely precious! I love the clothes they're wearing

    13. Well I emailed them and got a confirmation that my Daytime shipped, and got a tracking number but it doesn't work, still says label created but not in system.

So who knows where my boy could be right now, at least I have his hair now though.

      • x 4
    14. So I've kind of fallen in love with Dawn's face sculpt, but I'm not sure which blue would work best for my character. I know that Resinsoul sometimes does custom colors, but how does that work exactly? I'd have a few other requests for the doll I'd want to ask for as well, but from what people have described it sounds like those might be more straight forward than the color if one of the blues they have doesn't quite work.

    15. I just looked up Pantone colors and provided them the exact color code for what I wanted. The result was gorgeous.

    16. My Daytime arrived! No actual shipping notice, as I figured.
His name is Boreal and I'm still figuring out whom he is. For now he has claimed a wig and (probably temporary) eyes. I got company faceup with the idea that it would be temporary until he told me who he is, but I honestly really like it! Also anyone else with a Daytime notice the eyes are slightly different sizes? One seems to be more open than the other.

And one when I first opened him to show off these colors. :D

    17. Finally took some time to take proper photos of my Daytime
It ended up becoming a Lynel, although I guess a young one since it's barely bigger than my Link (rs Song)

      • x 17
    18. Could anyone with a Lan tell me what size eye she takes? I wasn't finding a hit on google.

    19. I got my Daytime the other day but I haven't gotten any good pictures yet.
His color turned out nice, though the lavender is a little bit darker than I expected.

I ended up not liking the wig color I got him so I'm looking at other options, like a spring green or something. Gonna take his hooves off soon and paint them pink. He gonna be a springy flowery boi.

      • x 6
    20. The Daytimes are looking super handsome, congrats you guys!!

      • x 2
    21. Anyone know a good shop for eyes that fit Resinsoul's oddly shaped eye holes? I'm having trouble finding good ones that look the right flat-ish shape for Thistle.

      • x 1
    22. Anybody want to show off their more pastel custom colors, or give feedback on how they age over time? I've decided I want my next one to have Ju head (and likely a Xi body), but I find myself waffling between normal skin and a pale aqua.

      • x 2
    23. Luts has some good flat eyes! Their glass ones fit Resinsoul really well.

      • x 1
    24. I do have two tinies in light blue, and they've yellowed to a very pretty shade of aqua. It doesn't go really green, but it's definitely more of a minty aqua than the light blue it originally was. I personally really like it, though.

I tried to take a picture, but the lighting was bad. I do have some pictures of them on my Flickr: Linna still looks the way she did in the 2014 picture with the guitar - she hasn't actually yellowed more than this.

    25. Having said that, my Lu just came in today, and here's a comparison picture between her and my much older Pixiu/Bei hybrid, alongside a BBB Moony in green.

I think Linna (my Pixiu hybrid) is about 10 years old, but I'm not sure. I bought her new, and I know she was about the same colour as my new, as yet nameless Lu.

Also, I'm sad to discover that somehow my little Moony has a chipped ear. :...(

      • x 4
    26. Oh wow that's a huge difference in color :o generally speaking, how well/badly do Resinsoul dolls keep their color? Are the fantasy colors more likely to fade than the natural colors? I've been obsessing with the idea of getting one of the deertaurs and haven't been able to pick colors I want so I'd like to have some idea about what colors to avoid.

      • x 1
    27. I agree, huge difference in color, and definitely helps with the normal skin vs a pastel inhuman shade decision.

    28. I've heard that Resinsoul's colors are more stable now than they used to be. I have a red guy who hasn't changed in 2 years, and a piece of red that's 4 and they're both the same color and haven't yellowed to my eye. My green guy is also the same, and he's about a year. Meanwhile my once paper white gal is a nice off white now, but she's also several years old. So your milage may vary.

      • x 2
    29. I think it's the lighter shades - white, pink, light blue and possibly light tan that change the most. I will have to see how my Lu behaves over the next couple of years. Or maybe you just notice it more?

I actually really like the blue/aqua. However, if you really want a blue doll, I'd go for sky blue.

      • x 5
    30. green tends to be really stable. Blue greys and takes on a slightly greenish tinge, least the older ones do. That means the sky blue turns a gorgeous storm cloud colour while the light blue often takes on a bit of aqua/mint undertones. Red seems to stay pretty stable which is interesting as red is notoriously unstable as a colour, but my red doll is still the terracotta colour she was when I got her (near exactly the same colour as the old stamp in the back of the doll's heads in fact), if anything they end up more tan than red. Purple used to turn grey but my purple boy is still noticably purple, he's a good erm.. 4 years old now?

White definitely yellows to a sort of creamy colour. As does their NS but it's slight. Tan can grey, or it can yellow, it's a rather inconsistant shade anyway. I have several light tan resinsouls and all of them are slightly different shades lol.
dark tan is really inconsistant as well. Again, it tends to dull as the red breaks down.

I don't own any light blue or light grey but I have an example of I think every other colour. Heh.

The thing is, their newer resin mixes do tend to be more stable because over the years resin stability has gotten better overall. They've perfected the mixes, uv protection and so on all of which results in a product that's substantially more colour-fast (so to speak) than older resin was. It WILL still yellow because that's what resin does, but in my experience old resinsoul fantasy colours don't yellow so much as they grey, which is... quite distinctive to resinsoul. Then again, not many companies do as many fantasy skintones as resinsoul so that may be why the greying seems unique.

Also bear in mind that a fresh faceup can brighten up a greying or yellowing doll a LOT becuase often just removing a layer of sealant that's started to discolour can make a huge difference. I remember when I got my Song, who's in sky blue, she was very very grey and dingy. Wiping her completely and doing a fresh faceup made her much more distinctly BLUE once more. It's still a deeper more grey blue than she would have been originally, but it's BLUE.

I've also found that dolls tend to yellow to a point and then stop.

Usually red goes first, which is why i'm so curious that resinsoul's red doesn't seem to grey as badly as other colours. I mean blue is quite a stubborn colour, so it's facinating that of their resins, it's the blue that seems to lose pigment the most. I wonder why.

of resinsoul's fantasy tones, green is the one that ages the best. It seems to be very very stable, which is really interesting. I've seen so many old as heck green resinsouls who still look as green as they were when new.
      go figure.

      • x 6
    31. Thanks for all the input on their colors! I'm not too worried about yellowing, it's natural thing to happen to these dolls after all but the difference between the blues earlier got me slightly worried if they all fade that much. Part of me wishes there weren't so many colors to choose from since I'm really bad at making a decisions already without the possibility of all the colors :sweat with all the options it's like "I could choose the basic normal color to be safe BUT wouldn't a blue / green / red / gray / purple doll be much funnier to have when it's a possibility for once?" I can get normal white/pink skintone from any company out there so the temptation to go with something bit crazier just once is strong.

Edited to add: does anyone have dark gray doll? I'd love to see one <3

    32. I have a picture of mine a few pages back in this thread. She's a BBB Ariel on a Rong body. I have every standard RS colour, but some colours changed a lot recently.

I have Zhen in pink and Sui in red. I bought horns for both of them, so I should dress them and take photographs to show the difference in resin between the older dolls and the new horns.I did notice a difference, but I'm not sure whether it's all down to mellowing, or some of it is due to the new resins just being brighter than the older ones.
For instance, purple has changed a lot. I bought a horn for my Pixiu, but it's bright purple instead of the greyish/brownish that the old purple was, so I will need a LOT of blushing to make it fit.

I don't think any of the fading is actually really terrible, all the colours are still very pretty. The one exception is that there was a batch of light tan dolls that were greenish at the start and faded to a horrible sickly colour. I think that was a temporary glitch, though.
My own two LT dolls are fine, although they are very different now. (My profile picture is a light tan Ian (or Lan, if you want) that has mellowed into a beautiful warm shade, my Feng is less warm, but fortunately not greenish.)

Here's another picture of Columbine (my Ariel), when I first got her. I got her from the DoA MP, so she wasn't new when I got her, and she hasn't changed much since then.

    33. So I'm considering treating Ulyssa (Mei) to some clothes that fit way better.
Does anyone know if the the Parabox 40-45 cm clothes fit Resinsoul 1/4th single joint body decently?

Failing that, anyone know some really good fits/patterns?

      • x 1
    34. The 1/4 single-joint body is very slim. Not quite Barbie, but close. Minifee fits pretty well, and 1/5 scale clothing works, too.

      • x 1
    35. teen trends clothing fits the slim resinsoul dolls, even the shoes lol. Same with glitter girls, but they can be a bit childish.

      never tried parabox.

Some msd stuff needs to be taken in slightly because of the very narrow waists.

    36. My dragon custom is here, and boy, getting her together was WORK, between the eye wells, dealing with altering the wig for the Dawn head, and trying to make her stand in the cabinet, since right now she's a kicky mess. But restringing should probably wait until after I'm done sealing and blushing.

    37. She looks cute!! I love her horns!
Can I ask what the issue with her eye wells was? I'm debating getting a custom Dawn in the future myself

    38. I had an absolute bear of a time getting the putty to actually stick and hold the eyes in place, worse than I've had with my two smaller dolls with eye wells. Not sure if it's because I'm not used to the larger, deeper eye wells of a bigger head or what.

      • x 2
    39. @quilleth - The resin is pretty smooth inside the head. I had to smush a lot of eye putty in my Dawn's eyewells too. Some resin is toothier, and putty just sticks like glue. Other resin - the stuff just slides right off. I'm thinking Impldoll heads are another prime offender of this.

Dawn has big ol' honker ears, too. You're going to want a wig that lets you split the hair around them.

If you're thinking of getting the Dawn sculpt specifically, I believe she's a limited sculpt? Denver Doll has one (blank) in stock in light blue resin. They have a couple Twilights, too, if you like a good sneer. :3nodding:

@Cryptid - she is gorgeous! I love the red hair.

      • x 3
    40. Good to know about the smooth resin! It doesn't say the Dawn sculpt is limited on their website, but I'd be wanting a custom version anyway, with normal elf ears and a human body (though i still love the torso Dawn has, so i'd have to see if that's something they can finagle without the centaur body).

      • x 1
    41. Ah, I see. I've had that problem with a doll before too.

    42. On the eye frustration front, I went out and grabbed silicone ear plugs today, as I'd heard great things for them as eye tack. Tried another doll's eyes in her head for a color test and they worked great:

[IMG]neweyes by Cryptic Cryptid, on Flickr

These are 12 mm with 10 mm irises, so the sizing's not quite right but it's helpful. I think I may like her better with round pupils and white sclera.

      • x 4
    43. I was gonna suggest silicone earplugs until I saw you already got some. I would suggest stringing with shock cord as well, I used it for my An and he stands really solid now.

    44. Those eyes look really nice with her hair!!

    45. Trying restringing for a second time, giving it more slack, resulted in super floppy hips (she couldn't sit up) and still snappy lower legs. I was originally thinking I made need a longer length of elastic but now I'm thinking I may need to bite the bullet and look up a sueding guide.

On the plus side, the stand works nicely for holding her up on display:

    46. Sueding definitely helps RS dolls. Easiest is probably hot glue but I've had success with faux moleskin. :)

    47. Hot glue is very forgiving. I never had trouble peeling it off. I think it's the easiest way to suede, and I have to admit I'm a bit scared to try the moleskin... I string mine fairly tightly.

This is a very old picture of Valérian, my RS Wu. I sueded his knees, hips and shoulders, and he's standing on one leg here, without any support whatsoevrer.

(He did come to me with slightly thicker elastic than RS used for my new Lu, though. I'm pretty sure the dealer (Think Pink) restrung him before I bought him.)

My Lu is on the original single-jointed body (I think it's the same body as the original Mei body) and she can stand and sit without assistance. I find the double-jointed bodies need more help.

I have a Li coming in from the MP, so I will have to see how she behaves. :XD:

      • x 6
    48. Done with painting and sealing today, so I got her assembled and dressed. Even with hot glue sueding she's still incredibly kicky, so I may need to add wires in as well. Pleased with how my edits to RS faceup went, though.

    49. I have a Luts Winter event head and want a Resinsoul body for it. The Shi body is the same as Xun's only with smaller bust, yeah?
In any case I've sent an email to RS asking them to color match my white skin head.
I have Xun and I love her she's their standard normal skin.

    50. @EagleVision1999 - yeppers! Like the Rong and the Li (I think?) bodies - same bodies, just differently sized busts.

@Cryptid - she's so CUTE! Squee! I love her. :love

      • x 1
    51. I'm going to have to send RS a color sample next week so they can properly resin match. Will have to research shipping options first though.
Anyway, here's Xun in a new outfit.

    53. @Lillith Thank you:blush I think the sculpt lends itself to sweet faceups.

    56. @EagleVision1999 - she is so cute! :love I love her so much!

@JoutasDolls - I find RS's terrible pictures absolutely hilarious (although they do seem to be getting better?). It's like anti-advertising.

      • x 2
    57. At least one dealer specifically asked the community for owner photos so they could use them instead and sell more rs dolls as a result lol.

their newer photos are a lot better though.

Personally I wish they showed blank sculpts more often. I wanna see the details!

Playing with some new display options in the cabinet. Props are fun!

While looking up information on fantasy sculpts, I saw mention that Resinsoul did an octopus body as a custom for somebody at some point. Are there any pics out there of this? I find myself thinking about asking for some custom sculpting, myself.

    60. An... octopus body?

I need an octopus body for my Ursula.
