Resinsoul and Bobobie Mini Discussion Thread - Part 33

Aug 5, 2021

    1. Hoping the weather holds out for this weekend. I am planning to take Melody for her first full photoshoot outside and get some nice pictures of her in the sunlight :D I have been trying some ideas with lighting her up from the inside with her transparent parts but nothing has achieved the vision I have for her yet. I am determined though so I will continue to experiment until I figure it out :P

    2. It's going to be so interesting to see what you come up with. Transparent parts really ads another dimention to photoraphy.
I wish you the best of luck. Your ghost girl is lovely!

    3. Thank you! I ended up not getting much outdoors done, we went on a hike at a new area. However I did get some first trial glow pictures! I am in be first stages of trying this out. I want to find a happy medium of lights and spook without compromising her posing and soft look to much.

I think I will be able to get her a bit more even glow with a second set of lights. but it's all a fun experiment :XD:

    4. Thank you! I am hoping to get it more even maybe have her face shine, even a little. Some pictures her face shows much better but I love the glow of her full body look.
I also have to argue with my camera :XD: it doesn't like to take dark photos.

    5. Hi! Does anyone have pictures of a blank Dawn or Twilight head? Or these heads as a male? I'm planning on making a faun boy and think this sculpt would be cute.

Sorry for the posting again guys! After watching some YouTube videos and talking to Sun, I decided to go ahead with the Dawn sculpt on Ming's faun body. I actually asked if he could mod vampire teeth on Dawn (so basically making it Twilight) and he said yes! So my ....vampire(?) Faun boy is getting made lol.

    6. @Geo-Earthling I hope you show off lots of pictures of your boy! I'm kind of curious as to what Dawn would look like as a boy as well, I love those ears!

I also needed a body for one of my semi floating heads, so I ordered the Tang body with the upper chest and upper arms in normal resin and the lower parts of the body in transparent purple. Going to be my half ghost boy.

      • x 3
    7. ooo that sounds cool! Is Dawn overly different to twilight or is it just the fangs? I thought they were slightly different but other people have claimed they're the same so now i'm doubting myself and I can't find any images of the two sculpts blank side by side.

I love how RS heads are so often extremely androgynous. They work great for boys or girls and I like that.

    8. I definitely will! :cheerNow just have to get through the 2 month wait. You're ghost boy sounds like a great idea! I can't wait to see the translucent purple. Do you make backstories for your dolls?

HAHA I really have no clue even looking at this. It looks like Dawn has a bit of a smirk. But it just might be the teeth on Twilight cutting her's off :huh?:

    9. Dose anyone know if a Mai boy head would fit on the 45cm boy body?

    10. Excuse me, does anyone have a Zhen?? owo She looks really pretty but I'd love to see some owner pictures of her.

    11. sorry for the delay but yes, all the msd resinsoul heads fit on all the other resinsoul bodies.
The two smaller than average ones (Ian and er... Lu?) would look very pinheaded but the rest are all very similar sizes. I have An on the taller body as well as one of the girls on the newer tall bodies. I mix and match a lot lol.

    12. Hey I ordered a Mei and I was thinking of getting her a pair of jointed hands (Resinsoul's 1/4 ones) but I heard they don't fit well. I emailed Sun to see if I could change to the Rong body as they supposedly fit better there, but they said that the hooks can be made smaller to fit on Mei's single jointed body. What do you guys think? Do they fit best on a Rong body or is it worth keeping my order the same and avoiding the extra charge and just using pliers to curve the hooks smaller. I am a bit worried that the hands will look disproportionally large regardless of which body I get. Thanks for the help.

    13. @Shuga
I have a Zhen! Not a lot of pics of her yet (still gotta pick out eyes + wig) but I snapped a few real quick.

And a few more in an album:
      imgur.com

She's in blue skin and has the company faceup. One of her legs had a defect so I'm waiting to hear back about that, she can't stand currently so I can't show off the wings/tail unfortunately (there's another Zhen in the house without that problem but I can't get pics of her currently).

      • x 7
    14. Thank you so much for sharing pictures of her! Her face is so pretty and expressive, and honestly if you hadn't mentioned it, I would have never figured out she was blue skin!

Another question, I saw people have requested edits... like different makeup? Is this true? Will they accommodate a different color palette request for the default makeup for a doll?

    15. @Shuga
I believe they will! I’ve seen someone who asked for a gold face up and body blushing for their Zhen, it turned out really well. :)

    16. Hi everyone! I purchased my first Resinsoul doll (and first MSD) recently. I love how detailed her body sculpt is. :)

Does anyone have any experience finding shoes for these dolls? The socks I bought from DDE definitely don't fit (too big!), and I'm worried it'll be the same for any shoes I buy.

Anyways, here's a picture of my Ya. Her name is Lauren. :)

    17. Hello! I was also wondering about shoes for Resinsoul MSD. I just received my first doll and it is a Mei. I have yet to find some shoes for her. I love your Ya! At some point, I'll get a picture of my Mei.

    18. Does anyone have a comparison pic of Resinsoul boy bodies that are currently available? I want to get a Ming, but on a human body, but the Tang body is a tad too muscular for the character. Is there another body I could ask for when I order?

    19. They have the single jointed "song" body, the double jointed (with the wierd cup joints) body, the tang body, the sui body (tang but with monster feet and clawed hands) and the ming body (double jointed body with hooves) I believe.
I have seen people requesting the newer style peanut joints on the older bodies though. It could be worth asking.
      I think they're the Shi/Xun elbows.

Kitty Blue did a wonderful comparison in an earlier thread.
      /threads/resinsoul-and-bobobie-mini-discussion-thread-part-32.760999/page-46

@Kitty Blue Could you tell us any more about the elbows?

    20. @Amasticia @purple_monkfish

Here is a video link of the comparison vid I did for the boy bodies.

Unfortunately life has gotten in the way of me enjoying my dolls at the moment. I can tell you the new double joints are very snappy, I haven't had the chance to hot glue suede them yet

    21. Curse my impatient nature. I have an order from another company but that's got production time and then shipping time. Denver Doll Emporium have some ResinSoul dolls in stock and I am super duper tempted

    22. Hey guys! My vampire teeth mod Dawn boy with a Ming body and Sui hands just came in. I think the combo is nice! I expected more transparency with the transparent black resin because it looks solid black, but not hung up over it! I can't wait to flesh out his character and find some clothes.

      I know the struggle:frownyblush:

    24. Thank you so much - can't wait to get a faceup on him! Dawn really is a great androgynous sculpt by resinsoul.

    25. So I didn't end up getting a Ming for now, but I did order An on a Wu body (along with a couple SD bodies) and they shipped it out in 2 weeks!!! I still don't even have a wig or eyes for him, haha. But I'm looking forward to getting his faceup (and restringing cuz he's super tight) done and get some pics. :D

    26. It really is (most of RS dolls are) I have a Dawn in a custom purple on Ming body with dragon feet instead of hooves!

    27. @SaltedPretzel , @Ktelbug22 I have the Rong and Mei bodies. The flat feet fit well in anything made for Minifee A-Line girls. Search Minifee Shoes on Etsy and be careful that the inside dimensions are listed somewhere around 5.5 cm or slightly more. DDE also has shoes and boots that are made for Minifee in their MSD collection. The dimensions between the flat feet for A-Line Minifee and ResinSoul MSD (at least for those 2 bodies) are almost identical. The heeled feet tend to be a tiny bit longer than the Minifee A-line heel feet which actually enables them to fit into more MSD shoes.

Right now my ResinSoul Girls are in Summomo82 flats from Etsy. They fit great and are not very expensive. Be sure you get the ones for Minifee A-Line and not Minifee Moe.

    29. Hey everyone, long time no see. I finally finished up my Mei, Lilith, today. A while back I bought a Doll Leaves body and hybrided the arms and legs onto her old Resinsoul torso. I had to carve out much larger holes for her legs, but otherwise it works really well! I also kept the RS hands since they had a better range of movement. She needs some new eyes too, but I'm really happy with how she turned out! There's some things about her faceup that I'll probably go back and fix later (thanks MSC for making the eyebrows neon for whatever reason) but she came out looking pretty much exactly how I envisioned!

If there's one thing I love about Resinsoul's sculpts, it's the way the lips curl upwards at the sides! It's very cute...

Also this guy? Cool as hell. Dawn is a sculpt that has really grown on me.

    30. Hi! I just ordered resinsoul xun. I've been trying to figure out what size wig to buy her. Some times I see 7-8 listed, and other times I see 6-7 stretchy. Does anyone have any specific suggestions, like, a specific maker or line of wig, or something? Or how do I know if the wig will stretch? Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places, but most wigs I've seen don't really have details listed about stretchiness. I'm nervous about buying something that will not fit, because I have no experience with altering wigs.

    31. Okay so back in August I was struck with an idea for a doll and thinking about it was keeping me up at night. So I sent an email to resinsoul to see if a custom doll would be possible. Of course the wonderful people of resinsoul accepted my request and a little over 2 months later, my bat (currently cat) arrived to my home! I was away for about a month so I was only able to open them today. This is a custom Xun with the ears removed, fangs added, eyes modded to be smaller, body modded to be gender neutral/angel body, and with Dawn hands. I sent them a screenshot of a pantone color for the resin color and it came out perfect. This is also my first time with a doll with body blushing and I think it looks so beautiful. This is my second resinsoul doll and I am just always amazed with the quality :D

Also, I noticed that one of the hands is floppy compared to the other. Has anyone ever have this happen?

      • x 15
    32. Amazing! ResinSoul really is the best with taking custom orders, but this one is the most impressive one I've seen yet!

Re: one floppy hand - sounds like an issue with where the knot in the elastic is, a bit too much tension in one arm and not enough in the other, would be my best guess

      • x 2
    33. wow I love rs customs, they're always such fun!
re the floppy arm, if you tug the elastic on that side it might even out the tension.

      • x 1
    34. @Girrl @purple_monkfish thank you so much for the advice! I have a feeling that's the exact problem so I'm going to try adjusting the elastic as you've suggested

    35. I tried a 7-8 heat resistant fiber wig from Leekeworld on my Xun and it fit perfectly but a premium mohair wig in the same size from Leekeworld was pretty loose. A 7-8 wig from For My Doll fit well, too. I tried an unknown name 6-7 inch wig on and despite it being stretchy enough to fit the Minifees I used to own, it was way too small for Xun

      • x 1
    36. Oh my.. thank you very much the information! I will check those styles out. I have one wig coming, but it sounds like it'll be hit or miss, so I guess we'll see :)

    37. She arrived today, my resinsoul Xun. She is beautiful and the resin feels great. But she is absolutely terribly strung! Her head is permanently cocked to one side, her legs will not stay straight for her life, there's no way she will stand, she can barely sit or lay flat. I am so dissapointed, I could cry. I know they are "budget" dolls, but I was adamant about going "legit", and this was my christmas/birthday present. Even for "only" $200 I expected her to be...I don't know. Not like this. She's barely useable. Will she loosen up eventually? or will I have definitely to restring? As a complete newbie I am intimidated by the prospect.

    38. She'll loosen up, but I would restring her with the thickest elastic you can get through the channels. I think I used 4.5 in the main body and legs of my RS girls and 4mm or 3.5mm in their arms. It works miracles for their posing.
And Congratulations on your new doll!

      • x 3
    39. Is she too loose or too tight? Either way, restringing can do wonders on a doll. The one resinsoul I own was, quickly frankly, strung like shit when he arrived, way too loose and with a huge knot in the head. Shortening the elastic and making the knot sit in the chest really helped.
With this said, it happens to be disappointed. But if you think it's a beautiful doll, then I think those issues are workable (I've received a doll once that was badly strung AND ugly, and it's hard to move past that lol). Check how to restring a doll if you've never done it. It takes a little time and patience, a little strength as well (get help if you're worried about that) but if you check tutorials, it's not so difficult.
If hope you can enjoy your doll in spite of that difficult beginning!

      • x 2
    40. Thank you both for your words of wisdom. I'm feeling a bit better about her I've been kind of stretching her legs, I think the problem is that it is tight, so hopefully she will loosen up. I peeked inside her joints so I'm less intimidated by the prospect now if I have to restring (i just still do not want to do it lol!). At least I was able to fix her head issue...Turns out, the elastic was twisted-it seems if her head had been accidentally turned backwards. One of her legs cords was also twisted. It took some practice but I did eventually get her to stand. It was definitely not an easy feat haha. I will need to be patient with her :)

    41. @kittyglitter Yeah, Resinsoul dolls are not best known for their marvels of engineering... But on the other hand, many of their dolls are very pretty and great blank slates for mod work and they are very affordable. As long as you like the look of the doll, it's well worth putting in the time to make it work for you.
I second the suggestion on restringing with thicker elastic, that is an often used work around for Resinsouls snappy joints. It doesn't solve the actual engineering issues, but it does relieve some of the symptoms.
Another easy fix is to do some hot glue sueding in her joints. That will help the joints hold their postition.
(Beyond that, there isn't much to be done unless you want to go into permanent mobility mods.)

Restringing isn't that big of a deal once you've done it a few times and you will probably have to learn sooner or later anyway, as even the best elastic will go bad with age. You might as well get the first few scary times out of the way. ;)
Best of luck with getting your girl to work for you! Xun is such a pretty doll, there is some great potential in there once you get past the posing issues.

      • x 3
    42. @kittyglitter I actually own a Xun. Got her a year and a half ago. She isn’t too complicated to restring. The biggest thing with her was keeping all the limbs sorted out correctly and remembering which way was up on the joints. There’s not a lot of small pieces to fiddle with. Just the double joints. I had no intention of it until the elastic somehow fell off an s hook and her arm started coming apart. She still doesn’t pose well because the default elastic is so small and possibly too tight. I also had no idea what I was doing at the time.
I just ordered some thicker elastic and wire to restring a couple of my dolls, including her and another Resinsoul girl (Dawn). If you want, I can take photos to record the process. I’m not really a restringing person and will put up with a lot to avoid it, but I can at least get as much information for you as possible for if you have to attempt it. Look into sueding and wiring in the meantime. They won’t actually fix bad engineering but they will hide the symptoms.

      • x 3
    43. thicker elastic will do wonders!
RS string with elastic too narrow, a lot of companies seem to honestly. Maybe because it's easier? but thicker elastic allows for better friction.

as for the head cocking to one side and the knees kicking, that's a common issue with resinsouls. For the head often just changing the tension in the strings will help but the knees often will need sueding to add more friction to stop them doing that. You can quite easily "suede" a joint using a dab of hot glue in there.

but my first step would be thicker elastic. It's done wonders for the few i've bothered to restring. A couple of them still aren't too happy to stand but those ones tend to be the ones with the really strange cup joints rather than the peanuts. I hate those damn cup joints argh.

      • x 2
    44. I am so grateful for the support, yall. I am going to try to hot glue suede her today, then I will look into restringing/wiring if needed.

      • x 1
    45. Just my personal experience, but hot glue sueding made it harder to pose my dolls because it alters the shape of the inner joint. Maybe someone out there has the magic touch to get it on very, very thin and smooth, but I absolutely do not have that talent and every doll I've received second hand with hot glue sueding had lumpy bumpy glue in their joints that took their posing ability down a few notches.
Besides, you'll need to unstring to hot glue suede anyway ;)

      • x 1
    46. I appreciate the heads up. I actually went and did it right after I posted my last post. I was amazed at how quick and easy it was. I used a popsicle stick to place it because I was afraid to actually drip straight in there. I just did the hips and knees (since her arms were fine) and she is a million times better! She can actually hold them straight now, and can purposefully bend the double joints in her knees independently without them both snapping automatically any time her leg gets touched. I did have too much on the first knee and it wouldn't go back in the socket, but I was able to peel it out and put in a thinner layer, just at the top of the knee not around the sides, and for now at least, it seems to be doing the trick! Oh and I didn't unstring her, just pulled the legs out a little. Call me lazy if you want but it worked for now :kitty1 Here she is now, in all her "i can hold a pose for longer than 5 seconds now!" glory. excuse the mess, we're remodeling.

    47. All that matters is that you're happy with your doll. Congrats on your first mod!

    48. Ugh. The improvement from the sueding lasted all of 1 day. I restrung her (with the string she had) and it didn't help at all. I also wired her, because I had some wire on hand, no help there, but maybe the wire is too thin (pipe cleaners--i figured it was better than nothing at all). I am currently waiting on some thicker elastic to come in the mail, since apparently they don't carry the size we need at craft stores near me. I'm still enjoying her, she's got hair now, and some clothes, and eyes are in the mail..I've been adding blush, freckles, sparkles...But oh do I sure hope I can get her to stop kicking me and stand. If not, I suppose I'll get a doll stand? I dunno. I'd consider a new body because I do love her face, but I doubt anyone would want to buy her old body--so I would have spent way too much for a resinsoul head haha. Maybe she will get really good at seated poses, and that will be enough? I dunno

      • x 1
    49. My kickiest of girls still stands, you just have to be a bit... persistant. I have one boy with a slippy hip though, I rammed some eye putty in there which has helped hahahaha.

      • x 1
    50. Some Xun spam so I can get updates to this thread:3nodding: I would like to add that mine is strung with 4mm elastic throughout. Still the most fiddly of my dolls but once she's posed it's usually fine. Wouldn't trust her to stand on her own for more that a minute or two though.

    51. Anyone got a lan? I’m so confused with her sizing. I don’t have any YoSD dolls so I can’t try anything on her on that size but to anyone who has her, what’s the best clothing/wig size?

    52. Doesn't Ian use the same body as Mei? Just a way smaller head. Which means most minifee stuff for "small bust" should fit. I'll admit, I tend to custom order a lot of my doll clothes anyway heh. I have specific outfits in mind for most of them.

But my few resinsoul girls tend to wear slim mini clothing. Sometimes it is a little big in places and needs to be cinched in though.

    53. She's adorable! I didn't realize she had a cute rounded nose? :love

    54. Yaaasss! It's the round nose that sold me. Such a cute little button.

      • x 1
    55. The trick is to add a little blushing to the tip of the nose. It really brings out the lovely shape.

    56. two new resinsoul msds!

Another dragon girl (AMAZING HORNS) and what looks like the same head on a human body.

I'm tempted to email them and ask for blank sculpt pictures.

      • x 5
    57. Ooooo she's so pretty! Sad that the human version is on the Xun body, though; I disliked that body so much that I ended up selling my Xun :sweat

    58. I mean, this being ResinSoul probably means you can ask them for modifications if you can think of any that can help. I was personally planning to ask for a smaller bust and mobility joints. Will add notches myself as necessary. Or get another body. I think the pale normal Resinsoul has now potentially matches Asleep Eidolon's Peach Skin nicely (look similar, I need to compare them in better lightning though)
