@EagleVision1999 Ah that’s a good point! I’m unfamiliar with their other larger MSD female body (I think there’s another, anyways?), so I wasn’t sure about whether it would be worth trying to acquire it. I did try her on Mei’s body and her head is a bit too big to look okay on that. I did consider hybriding her onto something else, but I didn’t feel like it was worth it at the time. I’ll consider it with the new girl (and honestly with Xun, too, I’ve been kinda missing her).
I'm so excited! I've got a Yao on way from DDE! In stock in light tan with jointed hands! I've always wanted a Yao but I just never took the plunge until the other day. I'm so excited to get those hooves~
I am all about the new dragon girl! She will go so well with my Zhen but I was thinking about getting the new head on a different body. I love the look of the dragon body but it doesn’t pose very well.
@Reslie I'm following this for an Emily too. I have an idea about her faceup I'd like to try, but I don't like the body she's on.
I want an MSD woman with bird/dragon legs and feet like those that Soom's original Zedo came with. And fantasy ears. And horns. So I've been dreaming of an a custom red MSD from ResinsouI with Zhen's feet and hands, the Shi human body and Yao's head and horns. But the lower joints on the dragon legs don't look like they bend in a way that is useful in posing, and I like that Zedo's have an extra toe/claw in the back. Is it possible to order a custom doll that has the feet and lower calves made differently?
Does anyone know if there's any way to give the head of my resinsoul xun more mobility? I didn't notice how little it had until I got another doll with more head movement (myou vieruodis)
14-16mm I believe. I tend to put 14s into my resinsouls as I think it makes them look a little more mature. Hot glue on the neck perhaps? Does she do the thing where the head refuses to hold a pose and snaps around? Mine do that, it's irritating.
Oh thank you, I will try that. For some reason it didn't occur to me to do the neck when I did the legs.
You can also add a kip to the neck. I usually do that over hot glue because it's easier to remove but they can rip off if you're not careful. My green Ju, Jubilee, is starting to come together. She was a spur of the moment buy because I had been curious about Resinsoul fantasy colors. Plus elf ears are a weakness. This temporary wig is now her permanent wig after modifying the cap to accommodate her ears. Now to figure out her fashion style.
I traded for a Resinsoul Ya & she arrived yesterday! Not super happy with her resin color, as I didn’t realize how gray-ish their light tan is. Was Resinsoul’s light tan always this shade? I had a light tan Mei years ago and I could have sworn it was more natural looking back then, but it’s been so long I’m not sure. Aside from that, she’s very adorable! Her outfit matches my pink office & lighting Also her previous owner sueded her really well and it's so nice! I've never owned a doll with sueding that was intact before! Link since the image broke when I tried to add it: imgur.com
She's cute, @keiko-chan ! My old tan Ju (around 8 years) is definitely a nicer tan than my Mei's. (1 year) Not sure if mellowing made a difference, but it's not terrible.
RS's more recent colours are definitely more on the grey side than some of their older ones but I wonder if that's a mellowing issue. As the yellowing starts to happen it should warm the colours up a bit? I have an old dark tan who's significantly darker than the current ashy brown but I can't be sure how much is just different resin batche and how much is age.
My girl from almost two years ago. was slightly grayish. Monkfish is correct- she’ll warm up as she ages. Mine has mellowed out into a lovely tan Spoiler: Resin color
@Azure Agape Oh her resin color is gorgeous! That’s really good to know. Other than the somewhat ashy shade, I’m low key obsessed with my new girl, so I’m very happy to hear that the color should mellow into a nicer one in time!
I had a gorgeous tan Mei back in the day 10 years ago, but I couldn't bond with her at the time and I wanted her to go to a better home... Lately I've been wanting to try one of the newer sculpts, but with the pandemic I thought I'd have to wait quite a while before I'd get to see a modern one in person. But it turns out my roomies ordered *two* Zhens from DDE, and it's not even my dolls but I'm SO EXCITED to see them. We've been trying to find more info about the way they're strung, since pics and descriptions of the dragon body are kinda scarce. Are the wings strung like a second pair of arms, or are they magnetic? I assume the tail is magnetic, right? The girls should be here Thursday but we were kinda hoping to have an idea for what sort of No Naked Dolls strategy we should be planning around, lol. Thanks guys!
@LikablePlatypus are the wings on your Zhen strung like a second pair of arms, or magnetic to her back? Trying to plan outfits for incoming girls, lol, tysm
@Mamo They are magnet with a single joint in the wing it’s self that has the string glued into it. The wings are beautiful when she’s on a stand but when I take photos I tend to have them just sitting behind her instead of them being attached since there’s not much movement. Edit: You can find all my photos of my Zhen (Tesni) on Deviantart - Likableplatypus
Coming back to thank everybody for asking questions and giving answers here, because we're having the same problems with the dragon body kicky legs and necks that tilt to one side, so it's lovely to know how to tackle these issues going in! The two of them are about equal in terms of problem-child-ness, I guess I'll start with one and see what works! I just did a full dolly spa day for my oldest SD (2006) so I've got everything I need on hand except a quick trip out to the craft store for elastic if needed. We did have an issue that surprised me though. Has anybody had any luck safely removing the tiny magnets, in particular the one in the dragon body tail pieces? One piece was put in backwards so the polarity is wonk, and the tail doesn't want to connect properly. Before I try to gouge it out of the clear resin (no room for error, ) I figured I would ask if anybody had any tips. Thanks again!!
Some advice from a lurker lol. Will the tail fit in your freezer? You might be able to pop the magnet out easier after freezing it.
Holy moly I never would have thought of that, but it makes so much sense! I'll be sure to try it and report back with the results!!
I'm back with an update! A partial one, anyway. So her legs were strung on ONE PIECE of elastic barely 40 inches long, tied in one loop and folded in half to make two alarmingly short leg loops. Kicky source revealed, and there's no getting around the fact that the trip to get more elastic is completely necessary. I also fixed her arms, which were weirdly strung through her torso AND her neck hole... that was a new one for me, never owned/done dolly surgery on a doll in 15 years strung like THAT before. So fixing that got rid of her slap-happy elbows and her arms pose like a dream now unassisted. Also took this opportunity to fix her tragic wonk-eye, and replaced her putty which was bizarrely both sparingly applied yet also showing in the corners of her eyes. Her backwards magnet tail piece sat in the freezer safely in a ziplock bag for two hours and the glue caked on top of the magnet itself came off more easily than the bits I'd scraped off beforehand; it's gone back in the freezer to see if i can actually shrink the glue enough to jimmy the magnet out after a few more hours (fingers crossed). In the meantime she's mostly disassembled, gently tucked in her box, but here's a pic of her all laid out! The dragon legs are really gorgeous, I'm so impressed by the texturing. 20220128_041910 by Jules B, on Flickr
That one piece of elastic for both legs isn't that uncommon. I've found it a number of time on dolls. But personally whenever I get a new doll, one of the first things I do is check the elastic to see if it needs to be tightened, loosened, or restrung. Also wire or hot glue suede while I'm at it. It's a nice bonding thing too and makes the doll feel mine. That said, Resinsoul stringing is usually awful from my experience.
Hey so I'm the one who actually purchased the dragon Mamo had been operating on, and while the leg thing may be common, they had her in the realm of so tight even I was like... what is your heckin issue?? And mind you, my first doll was a Volks MSD Sakura kit that I had to self assemble. Like, one of those straight from Japan babies like 17 years ago where none of the directions were in English and you prayed and guessed from the cute pastel doodles in the packet. Also, that arms through the neck sitch? Entirely alien. I've owned dolls from over a dozen companies, handled dolls from a dozen more, and I have never seen that particular maneuver. This child was WACK.
@Shayde_789 I had a Resinsoul Nian I ordered new and I had to cut his elastic when he arrived because it was so tight, then I could restring him. He was a dragon centaur and they crossed the string in the centaur body for some reason, the one piece of elastic doing the two front legs AND two back legs, and had the elastic knotted at the neck. Currently have a Cen on order and except to do maintenance upon arrival. Resinsoul does a lot of things odd. Just look at their company photos.
Some Xun spam. Because I bought this really nice dress from Luts recently and it arrived today. It fits shockingly well, considering it was modelled on a Baby Delf. I did not buy it for her specifically but it works, so I'll leave it on her. Spoiler: the whole dress
She's so sweet, @EagleVision1999 The soft peach hair looks great with the pale blue. Like a little princess!
@juni-fee @Isabeau @Bristol Thank you all . I also think it works well. The colors remind me of spring. I also re-blushed her hands, now. The first blushing I did has worn off so it was time. I went a bit heavier with the blushing this time, because the one I did first looked decent in person but was practically invisible on photos. I'm not sure about the red though, maybe should've stuck to beige tones.
Aww, she's gorgeous! I would've never guessed Baby Delf for that dress, it absolutely does look made for RS girls. What a great find!
I return to this thread to report that I sueded Xun with some scrap goat velour leather I found online and it did wonders for her! It's 0,5mm thick which turned out to be perfect. Her joints are nice and snug, she's no longer kicky at all. I have her standing on my desk now, it's so nice to be able to pose her without her legs folding in. 10/10 highly recommended
If anybody's been looking for Qing, Wu, Yao, or Mei domestically within the US, DDE just got some in stock!
Thanks for this! I've fallen in love with Qing. There's just something I really like about her photos on DDE.
Hi I'm busting in here! I just saw @Kitty Blue s amazing customs RS gang and I'm itching for one too! Awhile back I had a custom song (Cyan blue with Jun fin ears) but I didn't like the legs on the body and sold him! I wanted to ask if anyone had and issues with the faun Ming body? I'm thinking of asking for paws instead of hooves! I'm also torn on what color to go with. So, any Ming owners have any pics or thoughts on the body? Or ANY faun Body?
the legs are a pain in the butt. They don't like being in digigrade mode at all and are very kicky. If you hated the song legs, you'll hate the ming legs too. Might be better to go with the Tang/Sui? legs. They're not hugely posable but they're substantially more stable. My Ming drives me nuts. He can't always stand, his knees buckle all the time and the elbows on that body are horrendeous too.
I have a Yao and she was a collapsing kicky mess before I restrung her with the thickest elastic that I could possibly squeeze through the openings (I think it was 4mm in her legs and 3.5mm in her arms). Full disclosure, I rarely - if ever - suede my dolls and I never wire them. I know lots of people swear by one or both of those methods, but, tbh, beefing up the elastic has consistently gotten me far better results than any sueding ever has, and I live across the street from the ocean so wiring + constantly damp salty air is a perfect recipe for rusty stabby broken wire that sneaks out to gouge me. Picture of La Creatrice standing rock solid on sloping uneven ground
I also restrung my Yao-body girl with thick elastic and also wired her, and it improved her massively. I got her knowing that something would have to be done, lol. I think she's pretty good now.
I own a Ming that I've modded quite heavily to get him to pose better. Many hours of work and he is still waiting for the rest of his mods (he will eventually get wings and a tail) and so he isn't painted yet and therefore I don't really take pictures of him much, but if you want something specific I could take some. I will say, though, that even if the engineering of the body is quite bad, his face and hands are very nicely sculpted. Over all I'm happy with him, but I knew what I was getting myself into. Before his mods he could only stand well with the legs straightened out and I am fairly sure that they just reused a pair of human thighs and never adapted them for the goat legs.
Anyone have Xun with commission face up? Would really love to see variety looks of her Here is my Odette :
I am looking at getting a new RS sometime the end of this year and I have been very tempted to go for a satyr. I always wanted a Ming but I’m more partial to female bodies so I was thinking of swapping the Yao head for someone else. I love all the skin tones they offer but I can’t seem to decide. I was thinking of combining the upper body in natural and colour resin for the fawn parts. I think the pink they released with the little flame boys would look nice (it looks way more pink than their normal pink) or maybe their purple. Ugh I just can’t choose! XD Blue would be cool too as all of these colours are ones I have never owned before. Does anyone have a full doll in the brighter pink? I also wanted to pop in and see if there are any owner photos of Yan yet.
I've been keeping a lookout for a Xi and or Yan as well recently - but no more! My Xi arrived today! She is so tall, and her dark tan is a lot darker than my Mei. Will have some comparison photos soon! Here she is with Zhen, who is just a bit taller.
Hi guys! It took since November to finally try to get a faceup and character for this boy (modded Dawn), but I finally found inspiration today! Meet Morpheus. He's not the main character - but main love interest in my (unwritten) story. I believe the main character will be a Mei or some other RS girl sculpt. Can I get some pic spam of girl sculpts?
Thank you. I had an entire back story for them before creating them. It’s the thing I like most about this hobby! Morpheus is awesome!
My Xun, Marciel(they/them), finally got their faceup done yesterday and their wig was arrived today! This is only my 3rd faceup so it's nowhere near professional but I'm proud of the sunset blend eyeshadow/blushing that I did and my eyebrow technique has improved. They still need to be restrung as their kicky leg and loose hand are still a bit of a nuisance but I'm happy that they're now what I consider complete! Spoiler
Apologies in advance if this has already been asked, but it's driving me a little crazy. How many 40-ish cm female human bodies does Resinsoul have? There's the original 42cm girl body, or the "Mei" body, with a chest joint and single-joint knees. The 42cm girl body with full bust and double-jointed knees, or the "Rong" body, with a 3-part torso (joints at chest and waist). The 42cm girl body with small bust, double-jointed knees, and 3-part torso, or the "Li" body. A 43cm immature girl body with 3-part torso, no bust, and double(?)-jointed knees. If the knees are double-jointed, I can't tell - the joint is hidden behind the knee. And a 43-cm mature girl body with 3-part torso, full bust, and double(?)-jointed knees. Ditto re the knees. So... which body is the 45cm Emily girl on? And this body that Shi is on looks new - 45cm girl doll with 2-part torso and double-jointed knees, and the knee is molded onto the peanut joint. I emailed Resinsoul to ask, and their response was to delete the Shi body from their website. (They did not respond to me.) I emailed Denver Doll, and they said that Shi is not on the Mei, Li, or Rong bodies - the body is "the one in the picture." Is this a new body? Does that make 6 bodies? 7 with Emily? (All links to Denver Doll.) Edited to add: Emily's body does not look like the 43cm mature body. The seams are much smoother. There's no gap in the waist joint like in the 43cm mature body picture. Edit #2: There's a 40cm girl body Lu? Anyone know if the elbow or knee joints are single or double? 2-part torso, from what I can see in the photos.
@MaleficentMrsofEvil Hi! So: The two 43cm bodies and Emily are Bobobie dolls, not Resinsoul. I've never seen Emily before! For Resinsoul, there are basically 3 1/4 scale girl bodies (with more fantasy variations) Mei and Lu have the same small single-jointed body. Much smaller than most 1/4 dolls, about Tonner or Gene sized. The Li and Rong bodies are the same except for the bust piece. They are double jointed with cup pieces instead of peanuts. They bend less but rotate more. The Shi body is the newest one with the big peanuts.
Thank you! That's very helpful. I did a search through the news archive and found that Shi is on a new body. I wonder why Resinsoul removed it from their parts page? Now I have more questions, if you have the patience. (Can I still say I'm new to the hobby if I've only been in a couple years?) How can you tell which is Resinsoul and which is Bobobie? I just went to the Bobobie website, and they have many of the same dolls listed as Resinsoul? But you can order directly on the Resinsoul website, whereas on the Bobobie website, you have to send an email for your order.
@MaleficentMrsofEvil - No problem! Honestly, most of this is hearsay from over the years and I would not be able to point to a source, but my understanding is that Bobobie and Resinsoul are sister companies in that they are casted at the same facility (maybe Bobobie is the caster?). I believe that one or both is an offshoot of an industrial-scale toy manufacturer which is why they have the equipment/resources for those super even colors and smooth finishes at that price. (Also, the faceups are done like commercial dolls with tough satiny paint and no sealant from my observations removing them!) Bobobie offers Resinsoul's dolls, but not the other way around. I think you used to be able to order from Bobobie directly, but most people say that they (Dennis is the representative) are very hard to get ahold of nowadays. Denver Doll orders through Bobobie, so I guess they're more focused on that kind of sales model now? It does mean that if you order Resinsoul through Denver Doll, the wait will be quite a bit longer than direct. This video might interest you as well!
to add to what @Glace Leau said, if you want any kind of customization at all, go directly to Resinsoul. I've seen clear resin, custom colors, even modifications to existing sculpts/molds - e.g. changing fantasy ears to human, or vise versa, thicker necks on body orders, and even adding multiple arms - and the extra charge is usually astonishingly low
No company does custom orders like Resinsoul, they're in a league of their own in terms of what they can do for you. It's really impressive!
Bit of a long shot, but does anyone happen to have or could take a picture f the centerpiece of the three-part boy body? I have an incomplete Ming junk doll I'm modifying, I'm struggling a bit with getting the underboob joint to behave.
@AhhTheHorror I have a couple of pictures from when I was working on mods: 2017-06-15 15.31.26 1538016590536628409_224066113 2017-06-26 01.00.09 1545549945658165971_224066113 2017-06-26 01.00.09 1545549954541839235_224066113 I did modify it heavily to get it to behave better.
