@Cylunny No problem! If you have any other measurement needs or curiosities lemme know~ What body are you thinking of frankensteining it with?
@TasiaChiba Honestly, just about any "bigger"/muscular MSD body, since the fantasy bodies of most companies usually have a more slender built (which I like too, but they are much more plentiful to find). There are some pretty nice 49-52 cm bodies that I like. Their ankles are likely a bit bigger though so I really am just feeling out future options here if no company ever releases fantasy parts in that size on a body that fits this goal x'D And Resinsoul offering some pretty neat fantasy parts is handy for that. Although I see myself still going for a Sui or custom with fun colors in future regardless of these plans!
@Cylunny : Wellllllll, got a couple suggestions for you. First off, Resinsoul is known for doing adjustments, so it's possible if the larger new Wukong body fits your needs, they may be able to find a way for the legs to fit. Dunno, but it's definitely worth asking RS! It's not been out long, though. Next up, if you haven't seen yet, Dream Valley is currently doing a sale for a Lizard boy named Velarde. I actually plan on ordering this guy for a Miracle Doll Baiye head I need to body, which I totally needed larger than the Sui body! I actually have a Song head on mine, and my fella is a little scrapper of a thing, so needed the other guy to be much bigger. It's limited though, and that could easily be a deal breaker. (Timing almost was, for me.) Another possibility could be to request RS to sand down the foot part a little slimmer for you if you need it a little smaller for a possible hybrid. They're really good about accommodating that need! Though, I'd suggest looking at the joint above the foot as well since you mentioned their ankles might be thicker and see if that could be hybrided and/or altered to fit. It could potentially make them taller, so its worth a thought. Which body/bodies are you looking at? It would have to be a huuuge ankle. Even my Sartoria fella only has a 7cm ankle on the outside. The ball joint is much smaller where it fits the inside joint. A lot of mods can feel intimidating to anyone new to it, so it's nice that simple thing like this, RS is willing to assist with. Not really sure if RS can do an additive mod to make the ankle larger, but one never knows!
In my experience, RS will do part upsizing, for an additional fee. I'm currently waiting on an order for a Yao body that has the puppy feet upsized to fit the MSD scale. Definitely worth asking about the feet being upscaled to fit a bigger doll.
@Cryptid I had no idea Resinsoul would size up!! I've wanted paw feet for forever! I will definitely have to get some myself sometime. Please, please post pictures when they arrive! And I painted my ghost boy Wu forever ago, but I never posted him. IMG_20241201_135036348 by Thymeseer, on Flickr
They will! I'd finally given in and ordered a small artist head (figuring it's now or never, with potential tariffs) and that meant she needed a body, and I decided it was worth it to just ask if RS could make my white whale. Wondering if they suddenly get an influx of people requesting upsized paws if they'll roll with it and make it a standard option. I should get the body in a month, per Sun, and that was on Nov 20th. I expect Christmas shipping to delay this, but if I'm lucky I'll have pics by New Years Eve.
Oh god that may also be my future...if RS decides to make some bigger paws standard that'd be so cool. Single handedly saving fantasy doll plans!
anyone have any pics of resinsoul lu? i’ve looked around doa and the interwebs a bit, but its been hard finding much!! she seems like she’s a bit uncommon
Got my Lina body in the purple! She definitely needed to be restrung, they did some weird knots for her. She's so slim, it will be a bit tricky finding good fitting clothes. But the purple is a great colour, though I stupidly didn't match it to the head I have, so I'll have to blush it to match the head.
Oooh I wonder how she compares in height with the Lina body! This one kind of looks like their older bodies but with updated sculpting--it's nice, and I like her ears! That purple resin is really pretty too
Oh my goodness those wings are jointed! They're a little slender for my tastes but at the same time, jointed afforable doll wings!!!! I wonder how they attach. Magnets or strung? Probably magnets right? Tempting.... She has a wonderfully strong face too. I always love the way Resinsoul give their dolls good strong noses. Her body looks a little more stocky compared to their usual very slender elongated dolls so that's cool too. I may have to get those wings at some point... I love me some fantasy doll parts after all and them being poseable adds a huge amount of excitement. I wonder if you could attach felt feathers to the ends just to bulk out the wings a little, hmmmm..... Wings plus the mention of scaled up paws makes me ITCH for more resinsouls lol. I wonder if they'd scale up Pi's bird feet, they're different to the dragon feet they already have in MSD, they're flatter and more birdlike. But they may not have them in digital form like their newer sculpts. I love that they're making more fantasy parts. I need ALL the fantasy parts lol. I shall hoard them!
I was JUST looking at my Sui dragon wings and wondering if Resinsoul would ever make feathered wings. The jointing on Rainbow's wings is so clever! I'm also very curious if the Pi feet could be scaled up to fit her...
I have a MIGHTY need for her!! I love her gorgeous face and ears especially. Maybe with my tax refund next year... She'd be so cute in grey.
I'm waiting for my Jun to arrive, but she's going on my new wish list... I love her face. (She sort of reminds me of Kate Winslet just a little - probably the mouth...) I had decided on no more dolls for 2025 - Resinsoul is making my life difficult!!!
where do y'all get your shoes from?? most shoe sizes i see for 1/4 dolls have an inner length of 6.5, but resinsouls have such small feet so they look goofy when they're that big
Look for shoes marketed to slim minis, rather than standard MSD. Shoes made to fit minifee, JID or similar. And compare measurements, of course. Beyond that it's always a little bit of a lottery.
I get mine on Etsy. Many creators will tell you what the inside measurement is. My girls have very nice shoes made by a Spanish seller. They're made for Minifee, and are about 5.3 cm inside. They're a bit of a tight fit when I use socks or pantyhose, but they're really pretty.
ali express has some sellers who sell 5.5cm shoes. I think they're often listed as for Paola Reina amigas or Tilda or similar (just make sure you check the measurements in the listing). I've also found Glitter Girls shoes will fit, but they're plastic and quite childish. Teen Trends (old Mattel doll line) also fit for the most part. Again plastic but they're a bit less kiddish. The clothes also will often fit, I love the jeans/pants on my resinsouls and other slim minis, they fit nice on the hips heh.
I did it! I managed to dress all my dolls this year. Rosemary was the last. I'm not sure about the top. It looks cute, but it's very fragile. And a bit wide.
I am very tempted by Rainbow, I love the downturned ears and the face. Those wings are also damned impressive.
I asked Sun if they could resize Pi’s feet to fit 1/4 size bodies, and Sun said they could do that. So I just placed an order for a dark tan Rainbow with purple wings and birdy Pi feet
@slight I'm so interested to see your Rainbird doll. Is she a harpy? Doll tax of my new girlie. Thinking her name will be astronomy related. Nebula? Kuiper?
I'm excited to see how she turns out! I don't know if she's a harpy, I just wanted a birdy companion to go along with my incoming Dream Valley bird boy. I guess I'm starting a flock.
Will have the paws to photograph soon, I hope. I was told about a month, and that was back on 11/20, so I've been watching the days tick down. I'm delighted to see other people starting to order resized specialty parts. More encouragement for RS to keep diving into easily available fantasy doll parts.
Hi all! I'm new here and I'm becoming more and more intrigued by the idea of getting a custom Resinsoul doll--specifically, I'm thinking of getting a Mei head with Rong's torso and Lina's arms and legs. I'm also trying to decide if I should order a custom faceup, or try to DIY-it. So I have some questions: - How do you place a custom order with Resinsoul? I believe I've read that you email them, but which email address? Is there a specific format that they prefer, or do I basically just tell them the above info (plus resin color)? - How does payment work with a custom order? Do they take PayPal? - How do custom faceups work with Resinsoul? I know they don't charge a lot for them, so do they have to be pretty basic/general, or could I send them a detailed image/description of what I'd like? How easy are their faceups to remove if I decide I want to DIY one later? - What's a rough ballpark cost estimate for how much I should expect to pay for a custom doll (with or without faceup)? I'm guessing the more dramatic customs I've seen cost more than just basic body-part swapping, but I'm not sure what to expect. Thanks in advance for your help!
To answer your questions: 1) They have their email on their website. I emailed the admin at resinsoul.com address on the bottom of the page and that worked out fine. I don't know if they have a preferred format, but I sent them a description of what I was looking for plus reference images with things I liked and was hoping they could customize circled. This might have been overkill, but it didn't seem to hurt. I did go back and forth a little bit to work out the customizations I was looking for, but again, didn't use a specific format beyond a typical sort of "hello I hope you're well. I'd like to ask about ordering x" and I included a second set of pictures to reference then too. 2) They accept Paypal, and will send you the total after you've agreed to everything. They will include the paypal email address in the email they send with the total. You will need to send it through Paypal manually; at least I did since they didn't send an invoice. I included a note in mine stating what the payment was for, and emailed them to let them know I had sent that. After I sent that email, they replied to let me know their estimated turn around time. 3) I can't answer to this since I didn't do it, but for any faceup commissions, it's generally helpful for the artist to have visual references for what you'd like. 4) They'll let you know if what you'd like is possible, and break down the cost per modification or extra you asked for. To estimate, I'd suggest looking at the doll and bodies you're interested in, account for which one costs more, and possibly add $20-$30 for the modifications you'd like. Customizing their 1/3 body for example was an additional $30 charge for me, and requesting a custom color was also an additional $30.
Resinsoul is just giving us banger after banger I'm delighted, their casters are artists, man, that two-tone!!! And the injuries, beautifully rendered and masterfully painted
Oh no, I love Tears! Suddenly I have an idea for a two-tone doll with one Sui dragon wing and one angel wing!
AHHHHHHHH my weakness!!! Resinsoul really pulled out all the stops. Now I need her. Definitely as a split color, but maybe gray and white? Black and white? Grey and blue? Ugh, I have to decide.
Just a heads up, I emailed Sun about Tears asking if "special edition" meant limited, and they confirmed Tears IS in fact limited edition, so if you want her, get her. I don't know if she's quantity or time limited, they didn't specify, so I sent a response email asking for clarification EDIT: They've updated her page, she's limited to 25 dolls
Has anyone ever gotten a limited head (Daytime/Twilight/Day specifically) from Resinsoul even after their order time was out? I fell in love with the Daytime head--those cute little fangs! the animal nose!--and I'm wondering if Resinsoul would be willing to cast just the head. I'm planning on emailing them unless someone here has already asked and they said no.
I would like to know too. I'd love to get a Daytime head, but always assumed it was completely sold out...
I don't think they've reopened orders for those centaurs since then, but I remember when they first released, there was speculation they might eventually do a non limited edition of the boy centaurs, as they had done for the girls (limited Twilight who had fangs, regular Dawn who has no fangs). I'm actually surprised it didn't happen. It might be worth emailing them to see if they plan to have non limited versions of those dolls someday. At worst they say no, at best it tells them it's something people want and they can consider it for a future release.
It'd be nice if they periodically did rereleases of those limited sculpts because i'm sure a lot of people would love them and it feels kinda wasteful NOT to refresh the mold and do a few more you know? As for Tears, i'd love to see her blank sculpt because i'm really curious how those scars were sculpted. the two toned resin is very cool and I wonder if now they've worked that out they might be willing to offer it for custom jobs. Imagine like.. half transparent maybe? That'd be neat. I assume the way they do this is to split the mold down the middle with something, basically creating a dam that keeps the resin only on one half. Pour, wait til it's set, then remove the divider and pour the other half. But I don't know. That's what feels logical to me because then it would be resin binding to resin rather than having to be glued which would create a weak point and a very obvious seam. Looking at the luts ones, I feel like that's how they did theirs. Which theoretically wouldn't be that difficult to do for other existing molds because if it's a separate piece you can slot in.... or does it require a completely new version of the mold with an integral dam piece to avoid any bleed underneath? Hmmm... I don't cast things so I dunno. But i'm really curious about the process now. lol. Given they'll adapt sculpts to use other sculpt's ears i'm really curious how their molds actually are put together. Do they just have separate ear molds they tack on or something? Or do they do a dirty franken job where they cast the ears, cast the head, slap em together and take a whole new mold from the cobbled together thing? What do they do with the molds after that then? Do they just go in a box somewhere in case someone else orders that combo? I'm so curious about the whole process. Anyway, it's a very cool thing to see them doing, branching out in their experimental casting is awesome. First with transparent resin, now with this split. I hope they'll eventually do marbled or glitter resin because that'd be really cool.
oh my god, what an interesting doll!! i’ve never seen the half and half sort of thing like that 25 dolls is so limited omg, if anyone gets it i hope they take pictures
Rainbow and Tears look so good, I love the face mold, too! I wonder if the legs would be possible to swap out with Ran body's peanut legs? I didn't want to get any new dolls any time soon but now I'm tempted by the prospect of having a gray doll (but I do want the peanuts and small bust and extra waist joint all in one body) I think the body might be glued as the line is very sharp but I assume the face is cast all together as there is a bit of bleed (kind of like harucasting does their vitiligo dolls I guess - half of the resin is poured into the mold, possibly a short wait?, and then the other colour is carefully poured on top and everything is left to harden). It would be really cool to see them do more experiments like that! (But I also understand how much trial and error it is so I get why it is so limited)
Don't individual molds only have a use of about 25-30 casts before they wear out anyway? Which may be why the 25 number, it's the reliable "we can only get this many decent crisp casts from a single mold" number? I definitely thought of Haru and a few other small indie artists who do marbling or sectional colours in their dolls. It'd be exceptionally cool to see more companies trying stuff like that out. I really should do a resinsoul order in the new year anyway. I need a grey body for a head i've got but I haven't quite decided which body I want.
I caved and ordered Tears. Got a mail from Sun today that he hopes she will ship in about 50 days. And I was so totally sure that I was done ordering dolls... Oh, well... (I got her in the exact colours on the site, with face-up and body blushing.)
Considering how many fantasy dolls Resinsoul has created lately, I'm beginning to wonder if there's a story or an inspiration behind the dolls. Like, aside from the artistry of Tears, is she supposed to be Rainbow's twin? Other half? Do all the centaurs live in the same place, do they make a herd? I know Resinsoul doesn't tell stories with their dolls, but I sense a story world that's coherent with all these creatures. @purple_monkfish Do Resinsoul ever share behind the scenes of the casting process? I've seen a few in-progress bits on social media but I'm not a sculptor so I can only speculate how they do their cool effects. @Fairy Milliner That's exciting! No judgment if you caved (I'm waiting on a Resinsoul big body myself).
@A Wee Tiefling - I am also waiting on a Resinsoul doll - a purple Jun that is somewhere in transit at the moment. I had told myself he was my last bigger doll, but I guess I broke my resolution even before New Year's Day. LOL!! I'd been thinking about Rainbow, but I managed to resist... I thought I was doing so well, but Tears was irresistible.
I can't blame you for caving on Tears, she looks absolutely incredible. The purple and grey is such an interesting combination. I hope you enjoy her when she arrives!
So sweet! I'm not sure I've ever actually seen a Fei before. She does have the face of a holiday angel! In the meantime, my package from Resinsoul arrived just now, so I have some spam, too! The boy that was supposed to be my *last* big doll purchase... LOL!! Well, he can enjoy being the new kid on the block for at least another 7 or 8 weeks...
