Resinsoul and Bobobie Mini Discussion Thread - Part 32

Looking at some cute clothes on Volks USA site and wondering if Resinsoul Mei fits into MSD or the Yo-SD size?

 

mei's an msd!

 

Yeah, she just runs small so don't know if the MSD Volks would be too big as some other MSD brands do run big, from what I've heard.

 

I don't think she'd fit either MSD or YoSD clothes very well. I have a Rong body and I can fit her into some bigger/stretchier Barbie shirts, or Ken shirts, but of course they're all short. She could possibly squeeze into YoSD tops/dresses with big enough neck/arm holes. And she swims in standard MSD size stuff.

In general, when people say MSD size they mean roughly the size of Volks MSDs, which are much wider/immature-proportion dolls. Resinsoul minis are slim minis, or more like Minifee size.

So I ordered my first BJD the other day, who is a dark tan Mei! Very excited to get her. I've already ordered her shoes, two Leekeworld wigs and outfits aha. I'm too impatient!

Silly thing to say, but I only just realised that Mei and Ya are the same sculpt but Mei just has elf ears. I should have bought Ya aha, I'm not keen on the ears. Anyone who has her - do wigs cover her ears?

 

@Tappy_paws my Mei has worn a couple different wigs, and none of them have really covered her ears from most angles. Did you order her in stock from a dealer or is she being made? If she's being made it may not be too late to email and ask if there's any chance you could change to a Ya head instead.

If you get a typical MSD size with which they usually indicate 7-8 it may fit completely over her ears. My avatar pic to the side is Kitiblu she is a Mei but since she has cat ears I bought a wig that was a bit larger to go over her ears (this was before Ya existed..and she was my first doll)

Body comparison question: Does anyone have a photo of a Impldoll Young boy body and a Resinsoul Sui/Tang body...or if there is a photo out there can you point me in the right direction. Thinking of a hybrid and want to see a side by side to decide on which body would work better for my character. Thanks!

Hi! I'm really interested in getting a Ju but I'm not too keen on the length of her ears. I had heard that Resinsoul can be really accommodating when it comes to custom requests and wanted to ask for a human ear head instead. I was wondering if anyone had requested a human ear Ju from Resinsoul directly or if they just modded it themselves after arrival. Any pictures would be really appreciated.

I know that there is someone who has requested a Ju with Mei ears recently so I'm most certain they would do a human eared version no problem. Sorry alas I have the regular elf eared Ju.

I ordered a Song for my niece. This will be her first BJD!!!! I have never owned an MSD myself, so I am hoping the rest of you can let me know any tips on buying this doll clothing, shoes and a wig? I have no idea what sizes are best but it would be great to be able to hand him over completely dressed and with some hair.

Picked up a RS Mei second hand the other day because I've always been curious about owning a ResinSoul doll (and because you can't beat the price!) and I have to say I'm really loving her! For such a simple jointing system, she's got a really lovely natural posture and a very magnetic "aura" about her, for lack of a better word. Once I get her fixed up with some clothing, I'll post some pics, but for now I just wanted to chime in and say I'm really impressed!

I got my Tang recently, and I've just finished getting him "complete", as it were. Faceup, eyes, wig, etc. I actually ended up having to take him apart earlier tonight, because the knots in the elastic were up right over the S-hook and I couldn't make his head go back on after I took it off! But, he's all back together now, and looking adorable.

Sorry for the bad cellphone pic! Also, yes, his wig needs some hardcore styling. I tried to fix it with my fingers as best I could, but Monique wigs are apparently quite stubborn? So, hopefully, I'll get to that tomorrow (and perhaps drag out my good camera to get some photos).

I am so, so in love with this sculpt. He has such a darling little face, and that body really is gorgeous.

 

Hello everyone!

I'm new to this thread as I only just received my Song last week. His name is Lumière and he was once the childhood imaginary friend of one of my primary OCs.

I have a few small questions, but I will begin with one that doesn't require supporting images, as my camera is currently charging. Upon restringing my Song (who was all just a bit too tight, nothing that I'm not adjusted to!), I noticed that he was carved out very roughly, and there are gashes and uneven marks all over the inside of his body, primarily in his legs. Is this typical of Resinsoul? It isn't much of a problem as it isn't visible externally, but I am eager to know if this is a regular occurance on their dolls.

I'm also curious about some things regarding his facial structure and resin, but those are all to be posted once I have my camera handy. Until then, here's my boy!

 

Congrats on your new boy! He's a cutie. As for the 'gashes and uneven marks'; I've not seen that in my own RS dolls. Or at least, it wasn't anything major enough to get my attention (I just restrung my new Tang a couple of weeks ago... didn't notice anything like that). I'm not bothered by a bit of roughness on the inside, since as you said, it definitely does not show. I think the only thing that would bug me, is if there were jagged bits that kept catching/shredding the elastic, but I've not seen that either.

So for me personally, no, that's not typical of RS.

 

Hello, everyone. I'm new to this thread, and slightly new to DOA in general, so forgive me if I mess up, haha.

Last year, a dear friend in the hobby gifted me my very first doll, a RS Mei. She is the perfect sculpt for my Original Character - Raize Kor - from a book I'm (Eventually) writing.
She is the lgiht of my doll life, and while I'm wishing I could sew my own clothes for her (which I can't) I have found multiple shops full of wonderful outfits and accessories for my Raize. I also have not gotten her a faceup yet due to lack of funds, but am planning on getting one in the coming months.

So far, I've re-strung her twice. It wasn't super hard, as I have crochet hooks around the place, but it was still a challenge for a new-to-the-hobby person! Her posing is a bit weird at times, and she won't stand for the life of her, but thats okay. The biggest issue I have with her at the current moment, since I re-strung her, theres alot of excess elastic cord in the head, but I'm afraid to cut it off in case i have to re-string her again. Other than that, (even though they are more on the personal problem side)I love the RS Mei!

I couldn't decide what photo i wanted to post of Raize, so I edited 2 together. (I hope thats okay!)

 

Hey hey everyone! I recently got an Unoa Zest head on a single jointed RS 1/4 boy body and was wondering if anybody here had that body as well as the two double jointed boy bodies to compare them (so Wu’s and Tang’s bodies)? My boy’s arms look so short and stubby; it’s driving me a little crazy. ; A ; I was thinking of maybe seeing if I can order a pair of arms from RS from one of the other bodies, but I wanna make sure they’ll be a length I’d be happy with and won’t look too funky. Figured I’d ask here before bugging Sun about it. xD;

 

@Kerushii: Your Mei is a cutie! I love her sparkly outfit. As for the excess elastic in the head... my advice? During restringing, pull the knots and any excess (though... too much could definitely become a problem) down into the upper torso. Having all of that in the head can get very, very annoying! It's so much easier to quickly take the head off (and put it back on) when you don't have to fight with knots and bits of elastic getting in the way.

@Singull: I have the Tang body and a single-jointed body. I can definitely take some photos if you like, but I will say that the difference between them is vast. I absolutely adore the Tang body, to be honest. It's beautifully sculpted, and looks far more mature than the SJ.

Sorry, the pictures aren't great. But, hopefully, these will give you an idea. The arms on the Tang body are definitely longer and thicker than on the SJ. Thicker thighs/calves, slightly longer neck, etc. As I said above, I genuinely love it.

I'll have to try that during restringing.... though, wont the knots get stuck down there? Err, like if I have to re-string her again will I have a hard time getting the string back out of the torso? Just wondering. Thanks for your advice, I really appreciate it!!

 

@Kerushii: No, it's just a matter of shifting the knot/ends downwards, so they don't just hang out right up over the S-hook. It bugs me when dolls come strung in that manner, and I always end up taking them apart to rearrange a bit. It really is SO much easier to quickly take the head on & off (I always take heads off when I change clothes, for example).

Congratulations - he's a cutie!! I can't say that I ever noticed gashes and uneven marks on my Resinsoul dolls. I don't have any single-jointed boy bodies, but I have 3 boys on the double-jointed body and two girls (one SJ and one DJ) and none of them have really bad rough patches.

So many wonderful new dolls, too. I think Mei was the first one I ever fell for, and I never (yet) got one.

I had emailed Resinsoul about the issues, but since they have been blatantly ignoring the majority of my emails for weeks, I was not surprised when they did not email me back until I spammed them with photos.

I am currently in Paris for the week. Once I return home, I shall post some of said photos, along with my email and their reply!

 

Does anyone who if resinsoul makes a version of Mei without the elf ears?

I have her in lilac and her character is a ghost. I'd love to get another of her in NS to be her human form, but I don't want the ears.

 

The Ya sculpt is the human version of Mei

Thought I'd share my Mei, Maeva. She's a ghost. I'm currently working on styling a white fur wig for her.

 

@Cap'n, she's absolutely lovely and quite mysterious looking in that color. You simply cannot go wrong with a Mei...they're so beautiful! I can just imagine her with a white wig too. Your Maeva will look even more ghostly then, and I'm truly looking forward to seeing it! Really nice photo, by the way.

Thanks! From the moment I first saw Mei I knew I wanted an odd colored one. Couldn't decide between green, blue, or purple, so I just left it up to finding the first odd colored one I could find secondhand, so she's purple and ended up being a ghost. xD

 

Been awhile since I popped in, just been busy so my dolls took a bit of a backseat. But I'm back and with a fresh pic of my favorite (and only) MSD boy. Avalon got himself a new bag for magical wares and spell items.

@Cap'n Wow, is that the normal purple? You definitly know how to bring out that color.

I have a custom Yao (Mei/Fei ears, Mai smirk) in purple, that I wanted to share, but I couldn't get my camera to properly capture the color Instead the red got brighter than it is, but still proud to show off the progress on this doll.

She's called Synthi and is a succubus.
Still missing some essentials (face-up, horns and tails) as well as some cloth-extras, but at least she's starting to take on shape ^^

hi everyone! i've recently acquired my very own Mei through the secondhand market and oh my god this is such a precious sculpt! from pictures i was always a little iffy on how much i liked it, but honestly pictures don't do this sculpt justice it is so much better in real life!! she may be modded but you can definitely tell she's a Mei!

Get her a friend. Mini's love to travel in packs no less than three. She's a cutie, I love her little nose. (Mei's still on of my favorite sculpts. One day I'll have one just not right this minute.)

@Cap'n Hm. Good question. I'm not sure either, but the color looks stunning and the outfit is cool in itself. Actually makes me think of ice right now and given the high temperatures this is truely refreshing.

 

@hellFlower, your girl is adorable and I love her nose mod! I agree with you, the Mei sculpt is absolutely the prettiest girl ever..and they're wonderfully adaptable to a multitude of characters. I certainly wouldn't mind adding more Mei/Fei dolls to my crew.

I'm having trouble finding information on resinsoul mei's eye size. Ive seen other places that the default eyes aren't always a great match?

My Mei is wearing 16mm eyes at the moment, so try both 14 and 16 if you get the chance to see which you like best.

As for the pattern, Mei is super slim, even by minifee standards. I currently have my girl in an outfit that was made for a minifee. So long as the bust is similar, you should be able to tweek anything else necessary. Apparently there's different minifee body sizes that are very similar, but I'm not quite sure of the size difference. Mei's bust is about 15.5cm though. Her full measurements can be found on her website page.

no difference in lilac and purple its listed differently depending on where you purchase. just like coffee and light tan are the same. Not sure why they list them 2 different ways on those 2 colors...the rest are all listed the same..lol. She is gorgeous hope she stays the purple color for you, mine turned a greyish color
