Happy new year everybody! Great pictures @Fairy Milliner , @PeppermintPocky , and @Arashi Uchiha !

So, until I get new string, I decided to try hot-glue sueding, so that she was less frustrating. I only had a really high temperature hot glue gun, so I would squirt out the glue on a card and sort of paint/roll it on the socket of the joints. It's a bit lumpy but it peels off very easily (I did one joint several times so I know this for sure, ahaha). A decent temporary fix. Now her knees don't snap into sitting position, and I can pose her elbows actually AWAY from her body, yay! No more "soldier" arms. She's just a really beautiful doll and I was having a hard time enjoying her, it being my first BJD but not being able to pose her at all essentially.

 

Glad you were able to do something about the posing situation. ^^

 

I'm still planning to restring mine with shock cord. Not sure what size I'd need, though. I think 3mm ought to do it.
@PeppermintPocky - I love that hat! Did you make it?

Does anyone else have posing problems with 1/4 resinsoul body? I am really having a hard time enjoying this doll... I have no BJD comparison so I don't know if its 1. the doll, 2. me, 3. normal...

 

Did you restring her already? Until you do, I don't think she'll pose very well.

If you ask me, everybody has problems with posing the Resinsoul bodies (not just the 1/4) straight out of the box. Their bodies are really slender, so they tend to be a bit top-heavy.
They usually ship the doll with fairly loose strings (to avoid problems during transport) and the elastic used isn't of the greatest quality.

Restringing and sueding make things a lot better. Until you have new string you could try tightening the string she came with.

So yeah, it's the doll, it's you and it's normal for Resinsoul.

 

Haha @Fairy Milliner I feel a bit better now. *laughs* The new string is on it's way, I just need to be patient! I guess I'm just a bit grumpy about this but I will feel much better when it arrives and I can give her a mini makeover. I also got some silicone disks since they are so cheap; measured the diameter of her joints and will used what I need when they arrive. I think shoulders and hips will be necessary.

Mei really is a lovely doll, but Resinsouls do need a bit of extra TLC compared to some other brands. (Although some more expensive brands can be bad posers, too...)

I haven't tried the silicon disks yet, so I'll be curious to see how it works out for you.

For the arms you could also try 'wiring' her. I've used pipe cleaners in the past, but I prefer coated copper wire.

There are tutorials about wiring on YouTube. It's very easy to do. Basically you need 14-gauge coated wire. Seal the cut-off ends with tape or a drop of hot glue (just so you don't scratch the doll) and then insert it in the lower arm (through the elbow joint), and then pull the arm apart so you can slide the other end into the upper arm. (It sounds more complicated than it is).

With a single-jointed arm the wire may show with some poses, but at least she'll stop fighting you...

 

Hi guys! Hoping to get a quick response since I couldn't find any pics online! tl;dr: coworkers friend is selling a doll, she's the second owner, the head is a BBB Ariel on a Doll Leaves body. I believe the RS dolls have a logo on the back of their heads, but do BBB's? Ariel, in particular? The pics she sent me there is no logo on the head, so I'm just nervous (new to the hobby and all!) thank you guys!

 

@truecolours412 - fairymilliner already told you everything you need to know, so I won't be redundant giving the same advice, lol. I once had a RS body that not even sueding helped. He was so floppy, it was frustrating, which is an unusual experience for me, as floppiness is just something I come to expect in BJDs. I no longer have that doll, though I truly wish I did.He only left in an 'I need money for a move, so off you go!' purge. My present RS isn't as bad. Still floppy and it would behoove me to suede him. I will eventually. Let us know what works to make your girl less floppy!

 

BBB don't have a marking on their heads, and I don't think anyone's ever bothered to recast them anyway because BBB are so blooming cheap it wouldn't be worth their while. Some RS don't have their logo either, it's just glued on so it comes off quite easily (a few of mine i've had to glue it back in place). The newer ones have a metal plate which is way better, but the little rubber stamp thing? it falls off pretty easily.

My BBB Ariel has no markings at all on her, neither does my RS Long (he's oooooold). If you'd like pictures of every inch of an ariel head pm me and i'll take some of my girl. Just to set your mind at ease.

Does the seller have any certificates for the body? (do Dollleaves do certificates?)


@truecolours412 Restringing does wonders. My first girl had totally deteriorated elastic so I had to restring her, she was like a rag doll. I used 3mm shock cord from ebay and it helped. She stands like a rock now, though still likes to kick out randomly. Hot glue in the dodgy knee helped reduce that. Her arms still don't pose that great but that's engineering, a little wire would help, I just don't know where to get the coated wire from.

I have another rs boy who i've restrung, no joke, 4 times. he still slides. He has an iffy hip I think, which means that his leg likes to slip. Otherwise he poses fine, it's just this hip. I stuck some eye putty in there (lol) and that's helped a LOT. Hot glue didn't do much. I think I need to take him apart and properly coat every piece but I don't wanna restring him again! he always finds a way to have a hissy fit when i take him apart (throwng his S hook, stabbing me with said S hook, kicking me in the face) He's such a jerk.

I also have two here who I restrung using their original elastics, just tightened and paradoxically, my Wu who uses default strings just totally restrung with them stands better than ANY of my other resinsouls. WHY!??? I don't get it, at all. But he's like a bloody rock. He stands perfectly, he poses fine (for a resinsoul) and he's way more obliging than the rest of these jerks are.

Also my Sui bodied boy poses beautifully as well. His arms are better engineered with proper elbow joints so he's actually a joy to pose. My single jointed dolls are far more limited. It's something wiring would supposedly help, just as I said, no idea where to get wire. I want to do it though, so they can bend their elbows properly and hold them. the tension of the elastic means they don't really like holding extreme poses.

At some point i'll invest in some more thick shock cord and some wire. Anyone got a supplier for coated wire that's gonna be okay to ram into bjds?

Late to the party, I know, but my BBB Ariel (who is on a RS Rong body) has no markings either. Neither does my tiny BBB doll, so I think they just don't bother. Neither of mine came with any kind of certificate either.

Like @purple_monkfish said - there probably isn't a market for recast BBB or RS dolls, as they'd be only marginally cheaper than the real thing, so why bother...

I'd say go for it.

I think I might use her as my "tester doll" to practice sueding, re-stringing, etc! But I'm so excited She's a BBB Ariel on Doll Leaves body; if I posted photos of her, which thread would that be?

 

Hybrids can often go into either/both threads, though usually it's the one for the head. I do have a hybrid that goes to the thread for her body, but it's a distinctive body and a custom (read: no thread) head. My BBB/Impl boy goes here, though, not the Impl thread.

 

Thank you! That's kind of what I was guessing, as well, since the face is definitely way more distinctive than the body, and I don't even know if Doll Leaves have different variations of their bodies, so I'm a bit clueless on that one, too! lol!!

 

Most companies have little to no variation in their body choices, really. Most "variation" is bust sizes, or muscles on boys. (Some have more, for instance different heights or different engineering, but in general they're all a fairly standard human body.) My "distinct body" hybrid is on a Soom body, but Soom's an exception with their huge variety of fantasy bodies.

Similarly, if someone did a Doll Leaves head on the RS dragon or satyr bodies, those are distinctive and I'd personally love to see them over here.

 

New eyes and wig arrived for my girl today. She also informed me that she is NOT Mel, but is indeed Kal, who is Mel's sister. *laughs* (Mel is my RP character and Kal is my friend's). I am very eager for that new string to arrive, to set Kal up properly as her new self.

@PeppermintPocky , where did you get the beautiful purple eyes in your new year's picture? I have a few violet eyes because both Mel and Kal have them (and a doll for Mel is now on layaway) but they are more of a warm purple and I like the cool violet colour of the ones in your picture.

 

Can't wait to see Kal's new self! Gotta love when a doll decides he/she can't have THAT particular shell and must have a different one.

 

Does anyone have the 1/4 jointed hands and a single jointed body? I'd like to order a song on the single jointed body, and get those jointed hands as well, but would they be too big? I already planned on getting the girl ones, thinking they might be slim enough to work but it's hard to judge without a visual.

 

I'm so happy you like Axl's eyes! Thank you! They are a pair of urethanes made by Everpurple, a studio that unfortunately went out of business years ago.

BUT if you are up for ordering via Taobao I recommend Green Hitomi Court, another urethane eye maker that offers LOTS of eyes in various purple hues. You can see their shop here.

 

I wound up deciding to wait on getting Avalon jointed hands. - Other doll first option parts later. (Especially since I'll have to probably color match Avalon potentially. I don't think he's yellowed much if at all but we'll see how he looks next to a brand new NS doll)

 

Arashi I almost got jointed hands when my doll's finger snapped... just dealing with industrial strength adhesive for now and will invest in new hands in the future.

I am SO HAPPY with her now! Even though I'm still waiting on that new string and kips, she just feels right now. I can't wait to make her some green elven clothes, such as a tunic and a cloak.

 

Well, I finally have something to contribute to this thread! While waiting for my RS Mei/Rong hybrid....I bought a second hand doll from a friend who's leaving the hobby! This is Taimi! She's a BBB Ariel with a Doll Leaves body!

This was one of her first pictures; she's starting to look more & more like herself everyday!! (I will say though, she's very "loose" & her legs spin around a LOT. I think she just needs to be re-sueded but I'm not looking forward to it!)

ALSO!! Sun emailed me & said my Mei is on her way!!! I can't wait!

@TheLostPrincess - your picture doesn't seem to be showing, but I checked your Instagram, and Taima looks lovely. Congratulations on getting her. I hope you can manage to fix her body. (I guess RS/BBB bodies aren't the only ones that need restringing? LOL!)

 

Ah, darn! It was working earlier! lol I'll have to fix it! But thank you! Yeah, I'm not sure what to do with her body, since she's my first doll & I was told she "poses well" She sort of does....but she's also very flimsy! I'll let you guys know how it goes!

I ordered new eyes for Avalon along with new eyes for my Summer boy (since it's Avalon's younger brother and Avery's twin brother, I got the same eyes just in a smaller size) Ahhh I'm loving these way more than his old ones. He looks so expressive now!

 

Got myself a Resinsoul Mei Elf Girl just today and now eager to get another, or maybe two lol. Can't decide on Lilac or Gray.

His old trench coat is now officially retired. Forever. This is so cool. The zipper works, it feels really nice and it fits him so well!

I see what you're saying. I have a hard time looking for sculps that are masculine enough especially in the msd size. They either are too babish or too feminine

 

Got my Sui/Tang today! He's perfect for my character and I'm so glad he's home, he was the last doll I was waiting on! (even if I struggled getting his hands and feet on him, lol)

@MonochromeNocturne is the face the face as tang (besides the elf parts)? It looks quite different than my tang

 

@basilclover Yeah, they're supposed to be the exact same sculpt, Sui just normally has the pointy ears and the dragon parts on his body, but I wanted an elf so I chose the Tang body (the sculpting on the body is the same, as well)

Edit: I looked at your pictures and I think it's just the faceup making it look different. Your Tang has a bit more of a feminine faceup with the pink lips and such. Maybe a more masculine/neutral faceup would make the doll's face look more manly? I saw you mention he looked a tad on the girly side.

 

I'm doing the Seasonal Sewing Project and so... Yeah. My theme (dueling themes) are spring and winter. Avalon being the doll I chose for winter I went with the "season of darkness" theme with a grim reaper/Scythe inspiration.



So now he has a cloak.

 

My first doll! Resinsoul Lan. Tracking said her wig should get here tomorrow, I'm excited.

I got her the shirt on sale for friggin $2 at Build A Bear, thanks to a post here saying that the Build a Bear Small Fry clothes can work for her body. It's appropriate since she came home to me on Valentine's. I made her a circle skirt but my sewing skills are... rather nonexistant. So far, anyways. I need to find her a proper outfit soon.

Sewing takes practice. Try working with knit fabric since it has a good stretch and it doesn't require hemming. You can also measure her, or lay her out on paper and trace around her for a rough shape of what you want. You could also look into making a "sheath" with a running stitch that's been straightened out and threading elastic through it. That makes an effective ruffly skirt but it also will go on the doll no matter what.

 

HI all, I'm wondering if anyone knows weather Resinsoul's Ju head will work with the Rong body. If you ahve this set up I would love to see a picture!

In the future I want to get a ResinSoul Mei on the double jointed Rong body and was lucky enough to have a play with one at a meet I went to recently. However it was quite difficult to pose and I'm not sure if she had been restrung or sueded but I was wondering if anyone else had similar experiences with the body? What do you think of the posing personally and have you had to do anything extra to get it to pose better? What was it like out of the box?

I can't speak for the Rong body, but I know in general Resinsoul tends to string their dolls loosely (not falling apart, but they tend to be kicky- though they are usually able to stand very well). A tighter restringing and some sueding usually gets rid of this problem and makes them great posers, especially if it's a double jointed body.

 

Once I tightened up the strings and hot glue sueded my Rong she stood like a champ. When I have her on the Yao legs it's... not as solid, I suspect they're a little lopsided. Her human legs are just fine though. Same with my other double joined Resinsoul mini.

 

I know that resinsoul are pretty hard to pose specially the msds

 

Any recommendations on wigs for Resinsoul Mei? I've tried one 6-7 from Leekeworld but it wouldn't fit. I've been told to try Monique and Luts but am wondering if there are any more choices.

 

Drive by side view. My gosh I just love how these eyes show so much more emotion then his old ones.

 

@flara My resinsoul Mei has several Leekeworld 6/7 wigs and they fit perfectly. Perhaps you just need practice to put them on? I usually push the dome of the wig inside out, so that I can find the bangs/hairline and hold it down with one thumb exactly where I want it, then pull the wig back with my other hand.

Hello! My friend is interested in getting a Resinsoul Lan and we wanted to know what eye and wig size fits her, since she seems like an odd size.

 

Hey. Wig is 5-6", eyes 8mm and 10mm. My doll has 8mm eyes, it's more realictic.
