Resinsoul and Bobobie Mini Discussion Thread - Part 32

I don't have the head yet, but I wanted it in their light tan/coffee, so I was hoping that colour had more matches, yeah.

 

I think Myou's coffee is close... ish... Dollshe have their copper oriental but horrendeous wait times.

What was the reason you didn't want to go for any of the resinsoul bodies? they have quite a few of them in msd scale.

 

I just personally don't love the proportions/look of them for the character I'm shelling. I'm making a fairy doll and I want a very pixie-like appearance, small and spindly and delicate, my current top pick is Dream Valley's 43cm body that comes with wings, or depending on if I find separate wings I like more just the regular 43cm body. Dream Valley's light tan seems to be pretty close to RS coffee/light tan, tho I'm looking for reference images to really be sure.

 

I haven't seen dv's new tan in the flesh yet unfortunately. Their old one was really orange, though it's worth mentioning that dv's tan resins are semi translucent while resinsoul's resin isn't, which will also impact how it matches.
Matching resin is a real pain in the butt though.

I wonder if one of the dealers could do a comparison picture. I know angelesque doesn't stock resinsoul anymore but she does I believe still have their resin samples so may be able to do a photo if you ask.

actually it occurs to me that there is another option.
Resinsoul WILL colour match, you just have to send them a reference. I've used pantone colours before now but you have to take into account that different monitors will display differently but what you could do is send a small piece of the body (like a foot or something or heck, buy an extra small cheap piece specifically) or go to a hardware store and pick out a paint reference card that matches and send that. Then they could cast the head in a close match. May not be exact but blushing and faceup would remedy that (it's significantly easier to match a head to a body than a body to a head when it comes to blushing)

OK my question is, I saw a body review by Christine C on youtube and I've seen elsewhere as well, a ResinSoul body that looks just like the 2 part body of old, only with double joints and is a bit taller. Might even be bigger? But this is not a body I find for sale anywhere. Can anyone tell me what this body is called please and who sells them? Thanks everyone I love my Li, she needs restringing though, LOL.

 

There is the "Rong" body that is double jointed. It is slightly taller and has a larger chest and I know you can buy it separately on DDE. I am currently thinking about replacing my Mei's and Ya's bodies with 2 of those but I would first like to know if anyone else has it and if it is significantly better. Their current bodies are just so kicky and pose terribly.

 

But this one looks like the thin ... wait a second, It wasn't Cristine's video... it was @Kitty Blue 's video. She has the one that looks like this body, but with double jointed limbs and is taller. It was in this video and it's the two dolls where one is a clear blue resin and the other a lovely brown. Here is a screenshot I took:

 

it's the Xun & Shi bodies also used for the Zhen dragon you could send a message directly to Resinsoul to purchase one, not sure why they don't have all the bodies showing in the parts section. Or if you are purchasing via Denverdoll or other distributor I'm sure you could send them a message to ask. Just to point out the clear blue girl has a modded chest by Resinsoul. Xun body has large bust by default, Shi has the smaller bust by default my clear blue girl is smaller than Shi. Both of the dolls were custom colors, the brown one is the Xun body.

Xun has pretty erm... impressive boobage lol. I have a twilight head on that body and a Li on the Shi body.
They're very lanky bodies, quite tall.

I think Kitty actually has a picture of the bodies all alongside one another don't you? Stripping mine off is a pain in the butt because they all have layered outfits with a lot of buttons and clasps hahah.

 

I believe I posted a comparison before if not here it is..these are the bodies I reviewed in the video. The cup joint refers to the sorta 1/2 double joint that is on Rong/Li has the peanut at top but cup on the bottom. Note the dark green is a custom character doll of mine that Resinsoul created that body is not available from Resinsoul. and the boys note my newer boys I requested the double joints all the boys accept for the single jointed body use the what I started calling the cup joint as the default so when you order any of those dolls they will come with a cup jointed, they haven't released a double jointed boy yet...hopefully soon along with a Centaur boy..lol. Did they charge you more for the double joints in the boy bodies? I don't mind the way they did the jointing on tang/sui's body but it's nice to know there's options there for the other boys.

So, @IngieBee , are you going to request your Xun body? I think I might eventually get that type for my ResinSoul Sisters instead of the Rong body. The double joints seen to work better than the cup joints and certainly better than the single ones I have now.

Well, I can't order for a while, I have to recoup from too much spending! I have 2 long term layaways at DDE One of the things I'll be getting there is a RS huge boy body, whatever that's called, LOL. Maybe I'll splurge next month??!!! My Rong body is so old, I don't think a new one would match in color, but it desperately needs restringing as she is like a marionette LOL.

 

they didn't per se but I also had other modifications and custom colors so they may have waived the few you'll have to ask them. To be honest I'm not to keen on the Tang body double joints they are huge I feel like they could have been smaller..I have more issues with them snapping(along with the legs) than the cup joints but I haven't hot glue sueded them yet. One of these days I'll sit down and do that..lol. It is nice that they will kneel nicely this helps because I have a bit of issue with display space at the moment (too many dolls).

 

Next month! Lol! I am tapped right now too but its going to be way after next month, although ResinSoul isn't that expensive. From looking at the price for the Xun doll, I estimate the cost for the body is going to be about $110 for normal skin. That means, for me, it will be about 220, but there are far more projects I want to do before then. At least my final layaway will be paid off next month. Let me know if you get the Xun body - the one that is truly double jointed, whether it is worth it. I don't think the Rong body will be right for my needs.

Hello everyone! Does anyone have the Sui or Zhen tails? I would like to get one for my Ju, but I am worried about the height of it. My Ju is about 25 cm from where I want it to start on her lower back to the ground. So anyone have that measurement? Also how jointed or posable is it? And how is attached? Any pics or notes on it would be greatly appreciated!

 

So I don't have exact measurements on hand, but from what i've seen with my Sui, the tail isn't really all that posable - i suspect it's meant more as a counterbalance to act as a support with the wings. It attaches like most fantasy parts, via a magnet in the back. It's not a particularly strong magnet, especially with clothes on (but tbf skylark is in like three layers so ymmv).

Ah thank you for the info! Im guess Im curious about the posablitiy mostly because I want to know if it it will flex a bit. Ju is only 42 cm, but Sui and Zhen are both 45. I was hoping it would able to flex to fit a bit, if that makes sense? Just in case its to tall.

 

Unfortunately I don't think it will - it's pretty much solid. I suppose you could give the steam trick people use to reposition hands a shot, but the tail might be too thick.

 

It is attached by magnet, and not poseable at all, the Zen/Sui is much taller than the Ju body which is the single jointed one so unless she is wearing platform boots it would be too long. I'll take a photo here in a minute You could possibly ask Resinsoul if they can mod a tail for you, worth a shot to ask. I'd say you might be better off trying to make a cloth one that is stuffed and wired. That is what I'm eventually going to do along with wings. The tail is meant to fit around the butt I'm not too keen on the design personally and none of my dragons currently are wearing their tails. One of the magnet placement in one of mine is off so having her tail on won't allow her to stand. I also feel clothing options with the way the tail is designed is limited. Just my 2 cents. I'm not even sure why it has that extra joint there it is just a magnet not like a hinge joint or anything that can be moved.

 

My guess is the extra joint in the tail is purely a mould release issue.

I have no problem posing mine with the tail, but the magnets aren't strong enough to work through cloting, so they keep falling off when I try to move my dolls.

 

Does anyone here have a Yao girl in gray skin? I've fallen in love with her from seeing photos of everyone's dolls here on DOA. Now I think I eventually want one. I'd be happy to see other colors as well, I'm just leaning towards gray resin at the moment.

 

Just curious. I got my Sui in today and a Dawn. Dawn was fine. Sui is amazing but did anyone else have the S hooks go up inside the doll till their first joint and get stuck? My guy had his wedged in there and I had to take him apart to get them out. Both hooks where into the resin too. Its took me an hour to wiggle them free after taking his string out. Lucky I had the doll tools around so I could get in there and wiggle it free. but it did danamge to the inside of the dolls leg as it was stuck inside the resin One came out the bottom and the other out though his top leg joint 1st joint above his leg where the foot attaches . It was a huge struggle but I got him back together. I did send a message to them about his s hooks being stuck. This is my guy.

 

Thanks for the help guys! Looks like my plan for her tail wont work, so I think I am going to ask the person I'm going to commission to make her wings can make her a tail too. My crafting skill are not good enough to make her a tail.

 

LOL, I just came across this loving rant on ResinSoul, and I think it ought to be on page 1 of every ResinSoul thread.

To be honest, I don't know of anyone who talks down about RS, but everything else they (you here?) say about RS is 100% true. Having just made my first order in a decade, well of a doll and not just hands, Sun was awesome as always

 

I just finally restrung one of 3 of my Resinsoul girls, who have been a jumble of bones for YEARS! Poor girls, trying to fix them all today, but I couldn't resist posting a picture of my Li on Rong body. Note, not the wrong body, but Rong body (ba dum pum)

 

She looks really nice! I love her pretty dress!

 

I'm considering another rs body for a floating head.

I have seen somewhere a photo of the msd girl body with the yosd feet from pi/pixiu but I cannot for the life of me find it now. Anyone know?

Do you mean already strung? Unless specifically stated otherwise, all doll companies I've purchased from send their dolls already strung.
The quality of the elastic they use is another matter all together. I recommend restringing your girl once you have her in hand. It'll work wonders for her ROM and posability. I also recommend 4.5mm for the legs and 4mm for the arms, basically as thick as you can possibly get through the channels - works So Much better than sueding or wiring It can wait if you feel overwhelmed at the thought of restringing, but the difference is night and day

Hey! This is my first time delving into the world of Resinsoul and I'm not sure what kinds of things I can request or are available in terms of joints. I'd like a 45cm muscular boy body. The one of the website seems to be a single jointed one (or a cup joint one, not sure what the difference is!), based on @Kitty Blue 's very helpful comparison on the previous page. But then I've also seen this version of RS Tang that also has the extra hip joint (and I'd be very interested in that as well!). If anyone has any info as to what combo is possible, I'd be very grateful!

 

I have a Tang body, it’s definitely the best resinsoul body I’ve had so far when it fined to posing

 

I agree, the Tang body is a great poser, and the detailing on it is super nice.

Speaking of which, I am currently fighting with Nimuel regarding wigs. None of them fit right except the one that is meant for a specific other character (naturally). This one looks ok, but it is barely holding on. :P

Which body did you get your Mei on @Dee55 ? @Girrl is right about the too-small chords in RS and a few other companies, but what's worse is the way they string, or strung their dolls, as my last RS doll has been a long time ago and I don't know if they learned to do it like others. Basically they start and end from the neck, and tie it there (probably as tight as they can. This is 1. not going to be tight enough and 2. going to leave you with chord ends in the head. It's much better to make a loop, do a knot, string it through the neck so the knot ends up in the body cavity and hook it with an s-hook in the center (so that you end up with two loops pointing down the cavity) then string each side down the leg to the foot, hook one foot on, then do the same on the other side, and hook the other foot. You have to guess the right length of the chord, but you can use the existing chord as a guide. That last foot is hard to hook on, but you're a lot tighter than trying to tighten from the neck! Use ribbon for stringing the loops through the body parts, and hemostats to hold the last loop while you put on the foot. There are a lot of tutorials out there you can watch to get the feel of it But having said all that, I've only recently restrung one of my girls having never done so before (over 10 years old and as floppy as a marionette) I left them as they were for far too long, and have 2 more to do, LOL. I'm so lazy!

@mxwutter Just show Sun that picture and ask which one that is exactly, remind them it has joints in the thighs or "mobility joints" and see what they say? They're very helpful. Is Sun a woman or a man, anyone know?

@cheesedemon88 it looks awesome. RS has really upped their game on their bodies. I'm hoping they'll come out with a female body with broader shoulders to match my big girls better

@Magnus Vale I ended up putting some glob lines of hot glue on my Mei top and bottom to hold her wig on, it helps grip it. Also, it doesn't hurt the resin.

 

A good starting point I've learned from doing a lot of restrings is that, for regular BJD elastic, you should have a loop that's the length of the top of the doll's neck to the foot. This will give most dolls a pretty good, firm stringing. That said, I like to do BBB/RS dolls with shock cord when possible, and that isn't as stretchy as regular BJD elastic (which is in turn less stretchy than craft store elastic), and some dolls might work better a little tighter or a little looser, but it still gives a good point to start from!

 

My Tang in that photo was a custom order I had requested double joints, you'd have to contact them to ask for that as the default is going to be the joint that has a ball on one end and a cup on the other (slightly better than just the single joint but still sorta a single joint). Both mine and the other photo is a 3 part torso that is the default, I'm not certain if you can get him in a 2 part torso but you could ask. I did a video comparison of the bodies and joints here that might explain better. Ah I see a difference the mobility joint in the upper leg...drat didn't think about asking them to do that for my dolls arms and legs, unless that is a mod that person did. It would help a lot in posing I think. I'll have to remember that for next time.

 

Did you get double joints on the other bodies as well? (the wu and girl bodies?)
I'd love it if they could do the double jointed peanuts on their girl bodies, that'd be fantastic.

 

The newer Shi/Xun/Zhen bodies already have the new peanut double joints. I did request the peanut double joints on my custom which was a Rong body with Zhen dragon legs and a Wu body with Zhen dragon legs. My other custom Ming body with dragon feet I requested as well so yes they can do the peanut double joints on Rong and Wu bodies, be sure you ask for both elbow and knee.
However to point out the joints for the arms are much different than most doll companies if you view the video I posted or the prior photos I believe on page 46 when the arms are down the peanut joints are facing forward where as on other bjds they are kinda facing towards the body. If there was a mobility joint in the upper arm it would probably fix the problem as well as the problem with the legs kinda facing inwards. This does effect poseability, in fact with the peanut joints it makes the arms and legs snap like usual but they smack onto the back of the legs and upper arms..many pinched fingers later..lol. I'm sure the usual hot glue sueding might fix the snapping issue I have yet to work on my newer ones to test it out.

 

I wish I still had my Pixiu to do a comparison..I know I stuck them on the single jointed Mei body and it wasn't to bad. Someday I might get another. The other feature to take into consideration is if you'd prefer 2 part torso or 3 part torso. There different bust sizes between the new bodies as well. I had my transparent resin girl modified to have a smaller bust. I have a video comparison of the girls as well if you wanted to check out my youtube page

 

I have both shi and xun's bodies here actually and yeah, both are fairly busty haha. I also have a mei body but don't for some reason have a rong or li, go figure.

I'm pretty unfussy to be honest, I just like variation in my dolls and want something I can attach "bird-like" feet to. The msd dragon feet are too big and lizardy for what i'm after.

 

HA restringing I hadn't even thought about it not yet anyway fun fun I bet .. I'll need a drink or two or a 12 please pack when that time comes lol. But the wig an outfit I ordered should be here by Monday or Tuesday just hope it fits

 

@Kitty Blue So I just heard back from the other person and they did do the thigh joint mod themselves. But I do wonder, since taller RS bodies have that extra joint, whether it would be possible to request it anyway? I guess it doesn't hurt to ask.

ah I haven't gotten a Shi wasn't sure if her bust was the same as Xun. My Zhen bust is definitely smaller.

 

My two Shi bodies arrived with the extra request for thigh joints, and I have to say.... AMAZING experience all around. It's been nearly 10 years since I bought a ResinSoul doll, and they've only gotten better! My Shi body is still kicky, LOL, I wouldn't have expected less, but I love the new sculpting (well new to me)

I want to put the heads I have on order from Fairyland on these bodies, so I special ordered the color. Sun said they could match a pantone color. But how do I find the Pantone color? Well, let me tell ya I went to Home Dispare and got a matching Paint chip from Behr. I don't know if all paint companies do this, but Behr has a website where you can find the hex # for your color. Hex #s are usually used for websites. Anyways, after getting the hex#, you can go to the pantone site and put it in a search function and they give you their closest matches. There aren't as many Pantone colors as there are Hex#, which are almost infinite.

So I got 5 choices from Pantone, and made my best guess, which was by nature done on an inaccurate computer screen. The result was ALMOST perfect! I'd say the RS color is a bit warmer/browner. It's hard to see, I mean REALLY hard to see, so I'm super happy. Next time I might try a Pantone that is slightly pinker than the one I chose, but I really honestly couldn't be happier!

 

I wish ResinSoul had more of a wing selection. It's only the dragon ones though...now that I read about it here I kinda wish I had thought to ask about extra thigh joints. I only have a default Xun but I'm thinking about getting her some transprent parts.
I gave her a new face up, recently, but unfortunately my hands were super shaky that day. I'll have to try again, soon.

@IngieBee So we have evidence! It is possible to order the body with the extra mobility joint. Exciting!! Did it take much longer to make because of the custom request? And how much extra did the mods cost, if you don't mind my asking?

I decided on a different, more chonky buff body for my custom boy for now, but I do have something in mind for the super lean Tang body in the future.

Also had no clue they're so accommodating with special resin colours?? I am in love??

 

yes, absolutely. I don't think they are sophisticated enough to do formal invoices and that would make me nervous too except for the fact that ResinSoul has been for many many years the best company ever. Has anyone ever had an issue with them? Please say so if so, but I don't remember anyone ever saying anything bad about their service. I recently received an order, it was special color which I figured out the pantone # for, and it was EXACTLY that. I don't think they charged extra for the color either!

I would normally not stick my neck out quite this far for a company, but... they're awesome. Their dolls are kicky though I need to suede all my RS dolls, LOL (never did because I'm lazy but now my old dolls are so loose you'd barely believe they're strung, LOL)

 

Thats what I figured! I've heard lots of good things from people, like if they get an order wrong they'll send the right parts for free which is so nice since from other companies (in general) is like pulling teeth D:

Also the fact that they're so open to custom orders is so nice, I wish I knew before I ordered from DDE-- though I'm still looking forward to getting my orders either way haha.

I get the feeling I'll be ordering a lot from them-- especially when it comes to shelling my dnd characters.
