Resinsoul and Bobobie Mini Discussion Thread - Part 32

Nov 9, 2017

    1. transparent purple is so pretty right? My twilight has transparent purple wings and i'm like "omg this colour is gooorgeous!"

What cool eyes your boy has too.

    2. Yes, absolutely! Their transparent purple looks phenomenal; the way it lets light through gives it such a cool spectrum!

    3. Wow! That purple really is amazing, especially for the wings!

    4. I recently put a blue Mei on layway, and got a Yao head secondhand that I might put on a Minifee body if the skin tones are about right! I'm so excited for them both to get here, I've been wanting a Resinsoul for foreeeever. I wanted a Twilight head most of all, but haven't ever stumbled across one, and I couldn't pass up the chance to have a pretty moon elf with my Mei instead. I don't know what I'll do with Yao yet, though! Maybe I'll keep up the fantasy theme between the two of them! (Although that transparent purple makes me think I could be very happy with a full family of fantasy dolls from Resinsoul, it's so pretty!)

    5. Wow, Mei's head looks so good on Zhen's body. I'm strongly thinking about buying a Zhen body with fully normal-skin and seeing if I can get the legs and arms painted with a scaled pattern. I wish they had monster-hand options for Zhen too. I have a character in mind for her, and I'd probably use the Mei head on that body.

And WOW, I really love that purple and grey boy, that's such an amazing color combo. The outfit is super cute too, and that face! The eyes are so arresting!

    6. Hi everyone! I just wanted to join the discussion, I have a Dawn on a Shi body and Sui on the Tang body coming as well as my Twilight that I've named Lorelai! I redid her faceup a couple of days ago and wanted to share :3nodding: I'm super excited to get my next two dolls in!! I also ordered a new body for Lor, I just didn't love her centaur body so I've got a Shi body on the way as well.

    7. Zhen can fit Dawn's hands which are clawed if you want Monster hands.

    8. Ooh yes, those claws are quite cute. I'd love some that are properly monster-like as the feet are, but long claws like that are a good intermediary stage. Hmmm I'm getting quite the picture of the little dragon I want to make.

    9. oooooh I think that faceup is fantastic, she's got so much personality

    10. Can someone clear something up for me? I've seen several Mei's that have double jointed arms and legs, but the pictures on Resinsoul's website don't seem to be double jointed. Is that something you have to ask for? How do you do that?

    11. The resinsoul msd heads will fit onto any of their msd bodies so a lot of people request Mei's head on the Rong body or Li body (the li body is the same as the Rong just with a small bust).

RS will mix and match pieces for the most part though. You can pick any hands (they have quite a few different hand sculpts), any head, any body and i'm fairly sure the double jointed limbs will fit the mei torso anyway if you want to go that far but I suspect most of the ones you've seen are simply on a Rong body.

Be aware the double jointed limbs on the Rong/Li body isn't actually properly double jointed but uses a strange cup joint system which can be super annoying as the cups like to rotate. The Zhen and Shi bodies use a more normal peanut-like joint but are substantially taller.

but yeah, you just email Resinsoul and say "i want x head on x body in x colour" and they give you a price and tell you to paypal the amount over.
      It's pretty easy

You can even get super fancy and ask for literally every piece to be cast in different colours lol. Most of my RS dolls are hybrids of some sort. I don't think any of them are "default".

Resinsoul will let you mix and match most things, you just have to ask and they'll tell you if it's possible.

    12. That's super cool, thanks for the info!

    13. It really is awesome to read that Resinsoul is willing to build you any doll out of any fitting parts. I really wish that their website would get an upgrade into the modern day and that they'd get some proper photos of their stock; I think with a proper social media manager Resinsoul could become the top selling resin doll for beginners. If only it was more clear what you could get and what the options look like.

    14. What size eyes (mm) does Mei elf take ?

    15. 14mm I think.
I believe most RS come with 16mm which I always feel is a bit big. 14mm seems to fit much better.

    16. Does anyone know which of the boys has the double jointed body? Not the Tang version, but the less mature looking one.

    17. I think that's the "wu" body.

    18. Thanks @purple_monkfish ! I'm trying to work out ordering a body for one of my floating heads, and I prefer double joints!

    19. Also worth noting, the double jointed boy limbs fit the single jointed torso and vice versa. I dunno how useful that is but if you ever wanted a body without a waist joint maybe?

    20. So here's a Xun faceup:
I went light with the blushing because I wanted her to look etheral. But I gotta say, her boobs look enormous:wiggle
I mean, I figured as much, but...I wasn't quite prepared for the pointiness of her nipples. Even with a lace bralette under her shirt they're still clearly visible:lol: The sideview of them is also interesting. I will maybe post a few nekkid pictures of her when I have natural light again, because I couldn't find any when I was looking for them. Love her though.

    21. I love Resinsoul since I started to be interested in bjd and I tried already a few different of their dolls.
Somehow I was just never so pleased with their bodies.
So I just bought a secondhand Mei head and ordered an Almdoll body through acbjd.

Did anyone here ever try do hybrid Resinsoul with Almdoll?

    22. I haven't seen the older ResinSoul bodies in person. My Xun was initially hard to pose, but now after I've restrung her with thicker elastic she's posing decently. I think once she's sueded she'll pose like dream. I'm not confident in my glue gun skills so I ordered silicone disks last wednesday.

    23. Hey all! So I kept being indecisive on who and from what company my first doll was going to be and I finally settled on ResinSoul Mei! I had some other more expensive dolls in mind (mostly FairyLand or Iplehouse) but I decided to be practical and not spend too much on a new hobby lol. I'm so glad I did though because I love her!

Anyway, here she is! It was nice so I took her outside the other day. Her name is Leila.

She is single jointed body, light tan skin, factory face-up.

    24. She is so cute. Congrats

    25. @SeaNettle - she's absolutely lovely, congrats!
Aside from the price point in ResinSoul's favor, Iplehouse's dolls aren't better posers. Fairyland's aren't much better posers either (if at all) and FL has longstanding quality control issues, it sends out dolls with serious casting flaws - which it claims are not flaws (snowflaking, marbling, pitting, legs so warped the doll can't even stand...) - and all their dolls come with very visible seamlines (which RS sands as part of the base price)

    26. The Xun body (and I think Shi body, too) is properly double-jointed, and one thing I particularly appreciate about it is that she can kneel all the way and sit on her heels, though some might be put off by the bigger-than-average peanuts that make this possible. Another point in its favor is the very functional waist/ribcage joint. Bends very far, and gives her a very natural sitting pose, with that slight slouch that real people typically have. The only thing I'm missing is a mobility thigh joint, that would be a fantastic addition I think.

      • x 1
    27. I've been wanting a Mei for years, and things just keep coming up. Everytime I see one as lovely as yours @SeaNettle I get a little closer to taking the plunge! She's beautiful, I love her wig/eye/color combo. Her dress really is very flattering. Congrats on such a lovely little doll.

    28. I have several better posers than my resinsouls in my collection but I always go back to resinsoul for their price point and their face sculpts. And those resin colours oooo yes.
I really like how resinsoul sculpt their dolls. I like the often prominant noses, the slightly wonky hand sculpted features, the semi cartoonish look they have. It all appeals to me greatly.

Doll Leaves are similar price point wise but have substantially more "marmite" level face sculpts and only come in white or pinkish white so are quite limited in that respect. I really love that resinsoul do so many colours, especially their fantasy tones. I wish more companies did greys and blues and greens.

Mei is a gorgeous face sculpt. It's so versatile. I had one for a while but I sold her on because I don't like owning duplicate sculpts and husband already has a Mei lol. But i'm keen to get a Ju or a Zhen or is it Xun? at some point. I just have no solid plans right now and a long list of other stuff I need to buy first.

    29. I have been hanging out on this thread because I just put a 42cm Ya girl on layaway at DDE. I have a character in mind for her and she seemed perfect - I have to admit, the price was good too. It is nice to hear that these dolls, while reasonably priced, seem to do well although I am studying how to restring as that seems to be a good improvement to make (and I have yet to even remove a true BJDโ€™s head).

    30. I was pondering Zhen, but don't like the way her legs bend like double knees instead of more bird-like joints, so I was considering Yao's satyr legs, but does anyone know if it would be possible to swap Yao's hooves for Zhen's dragonic feet? Or perhaps one of the yosd dragonlings' feet (Pixiu, I think)?

I assume it's likely I'm in for a lot of modding if I'm going to be stubborn about leg joints, honestly, but I figured I would ask.

      • x 1
    31. You could always ask Resinsoul directly, they've done mods on request before and should be able to tell you if a hybrid would work or not.

Doll tax: here's my Song and Ju with new eyes from curkitty on ebay. I wasn't planning to use the eyes on them, but they worked really well as a pair, plus Song/Gilly is supposed to be a winter fey and Ju/Julie a spring fey (or transition-from-winter-to-spring, but that's a mouthful), so the colors work perfectly for them!

    32. Yeah, ResinSoul are super flexible when it comes to custom orders. I'm personally considering a custom order of transparent Xun parts. Because I decided on a water theme for my doll.

Here's a picture, I also got some new eyes; resin ones this time

    33. @monkeypizzasonic - Those eyes look really cool. What size eye and iris do you have in Song?

    34. I had heard you can ask for custom resin colors, but not mods. I'll give it a shot, thank you both so much! Also your dolls are so beautiful.

    35. They're 14mm, not sure about the iris size as I don't think it was listed.

    36. @monkeypizzasonic - Thanks. I have plans to get a song and I kind of want to order the eyes I picked out for him ahead of time.

    37. My Ya is here! I am quite pleased with her. She is beautiful and the resin is very smooth! She will soon be getting her sister. I have ordered Mei to join her. It fits perfectly with the back story I have for her. I actually like the yellow eyes they sent with her, although I think I will change them for her character. I think I will also give her more visible eyelashes.

    39. Such lovely dolls! Congratulations to all new RS owners!!
I love Resinsoul. Mei was the first one I fell in love with, but funnily enough I don't have one.

(I do have a dozen or so other Resinsoul dolls, and two Bobobie heads on Resinsoul bodies... There are just too many of them, I can't choose...)

Song and Ju looking a bit more casual. Ju's wearing a new Volks MDD set, and it actually fits pretty well!

    41. Mei came today to join her sister, Ya. I love her ears!! I need to give them both eyelashes since they do not have any. Is that common for ResinSoul?

I see some sueding and restringing in their future. Their heads are difficult to position the way I want them which is why this photo turned out seeming like they are antagonistic towards each other, but I assure you, they are friends as well as sisters!

    42. @Dollquest No lashes is pretty normal for RS I believe. I didn't receive any eyelashes with my RS Twilight's faceup.
      They're looking cute!

      • x 1
    43. @Dollquest Congrats on your new girl! They both look like sister for sure, and are super cute! I don't personally own a RS, yet, but I've purchased a few and none came with eyelashes as I can recall.

    44. I was wondering if anyone had pictures of the Purple or the Ble skin tones. I'm looking at getting a Sui. Just wanted to se ethe colours . thanks

    45. She's not a mini, so I'll link, but I've got a doll in RS purple, 3 separate batches of it, in fact (Lasci) Her head is the oldest, from 2011, her body is from 2013, and the jointed hands were casted in 2015

    46. I just saw this and I must say . Very nice Appaloosa here. I raise Appaloosa Horses. Love this.

      • x 1
    47. Thank you. That helps alot. I think I'm going to get him in the Sky Blue with transparent wings. Hes based off my Book I'm writing.
I'm also getting Dawn too in Light tan. Palomino colouring I hope. . This is my Yule gift from my Hubby

    48. Thanks! I still don't have her back from the face up artist, but she's coming along well. Here's some of the pictures from my face up artist. I can't wait for her to finally come home :atremblin[IMG]

    49. Wow shes amazing. I love it . I have an Appaloosa mare I'd love to add her spots to mine.

    50. Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone had any tips in how to improve poseability. I have a Yao that is around 3 1/2 yrs old but she hasn't been played with much. She is still very kicky in her arms and it's a bit of a struggle to get her to stand up by herself, especially when using her satyr leg joints. I also recently got a Wei and she can't keep her legs straight at all :horror::horror: I really love them both so I want to be able to have them hold their poses at least. Should restringing them work or is there something else I could do?

    51. Restringing doesn't do much, and even sueding only goes so far. I ended up using some copper jewellery wire, and that solved it for me.

      • x 1
    52. Restringing works wonders when it's done with thick enough elastic. I believe my Yao has 3.5mm in her arms and 4mm in her legs. She stands on pretty much any surface and has a really good range of movement and poses. Her arms stay straight, but she can also still touch her face, and, since I tend to string my dolls fairly loosely, she also slouches really nicely too.
This is with just thick elastic, no tension or wiring, and she's actually propping up the other doll in the 2nd picture
      [IMG][IMG]

I, personally, hate wiring in dolls. Some people swear by it. I am not one of those people, and have never found it to be much of an improvement when it comes to posability. Wire also tends to break over time, especially with frequent bending, and then you get to dig sharp jabby wire bits out of the stringing channels.

      • x 7
    53. Thank you for the tip! I will probably be trying this on my smaller girl because it seems she does need some extra help.

Thank you! This helps me a lot and it is nice to hear that Yao is a lot sturdier than i thought. I will defiantly be restringing both my girls now. Also thanks for the ref images. The second picture is so beautiful!

    54. I don't particularly like wire, but I didn't think to use thicker elastic. That's such a good idea, I'll have to try it when the wire finally gives way.

      • x 1
    55. does anyone have any good suggestions for getting yao and ming to stand in their crouched satyr mode? Mine both stand okay with their legs straight but the legs are designed to lock into a sort of digigraded beast mode too, they just... aren't very stable and the knees click out constantly.

      • x 2
    56. restring with the thickest possible elastic you can possibly squeeze through the channels. I've gotten Cre (my Yao) to crouch, but I had to take her horns off. It took a lot of patience and fiddling and she wasn't super, super stable, but it did work. I might have been able to get her to crouch with her horns on if I had used 4.5mm to string her legs, but I didn't have any extra on hand and the 4mm was already a tight squeeze anyway. I've only got 6mm on hand right now (for the big dolls) so I can't test this theory, but that's my $0.02 for what it's worth

    57. So there's a custom resinsoul msd boy I've had in my mind for a while and today I plotted him down. This was hard but fun. Hoping to order him in the beginning of next year.

    58. @Cap'n: That looks really fun!! Only thing I'm not 100% sure about is if the double-jointed 1/4 arms & legs will fit the single-jointed body. But the best way to find out is to email Resinsoul! <3
