Removing Hot Glue: How to Remove Eyes that are Hot Glued

Oct 15, 2004

    1. I bought a Volks head where the eyes had already been taken out. But there are a good chunk of the hot glue left around the eye wells. How can I remove it safely? At least so much of it that I can put the eyes back in again? I don't want to do anything to scratch or damage the head, even if it's on the inside.

Sorry if this is answered before, I couldn't find it anywhere.

      Thank you in advance.

    2. I think I read somewhere that freezing the head helps. Idk how long but I took one doll out in the snow for 10 minutes and the hot glue on her hooves came off right after with very little resistance.

    3. I usually use a hair blower, put it on the highest temperature and then move it left and right in front of the glue.
It will make it go warm and easier to get off.
Just don't roast the glue, it just needs to get softer :)

    4. Good luck. :)

    5. After over nine years of fiddling with these dollies and freeing countless pairs of eyes from dreaded dried hot glue, I've now just discovered a very easy method of dealing with it: apply isopropyl alcohol (over-the-counter rubbing alcohol) on the edges of the hot glue. Get some tweezers and peel the glue right off! The glue came off in one neat ring-clump. No more freezing dolly heads here!

      Here's a helpful video/article: http://lifehacker.com/5676237/use-rubbing-alcohol-to-remove-hot-glue-from-nearly-anything

Caveat: Not sure if the rubbing alcohol will possibly erase any paint, so use with caution!

    6. After a very recent clean and restringing of my Luts Kid Delf body, I was able to easily peel off the hot glue of the joints with the help of long fingernails. Over the years, the hot glue actually becomes brittle and could no longer hold a pose.
