Raccoon Doll Discussion - Part 4

OMG, at the rate I'm going I'll need a bucketful! There is nothing about the pre-order (or eyes being discontinued) on their web page; however, the 15th is Friday so there's time yet. Now I'm glad that PayPal didn't apply my balance to Raccoon David -- I'll use it on eyes instead.

 

I'm saaad! It was so nice knowing that they were always there to order from. . till they weren't T___T. I'll probably be ordering a few pairs even though I'm gonna try and make my own. At least I'll be getting the Blossom and Corona ones for Julian.

I'm suspecting he'll be coming sometime in early January since I ordered him later on. Hopefully if that's the case he'll get here after my niece leaves so I don't have to hide him from her. She's five, and knows my dolls are not for touching, but I still worry. I'm of course still waiting for the status to change to queued, but as soon as it does, I'm gonna be designing and sewing like mad.

Damien is out of the shipping queue and is in transit! Normally I'd expect him within 3-4 days, but the way packages have been backing up once they arrive in New York, I'll be happy if he reaches Vermont for Christmas.

Today is the 15th and Safrindoll still has not posted the basic resin eyes. I hope she doesn't run this sale from Facebook because I'm not on it.

 

There is nothing on FB at the moment today either..............I really hope she does open it up as I need some more smaller size eyes, especially if this will be the last preorder for them.

 

What size (type) eyes do you all recommend from Safrin? Being a newbie to the FID/Raccoon Doll size I would like to have some nice eye options in my supplies.

 

8mm with small iris seems to work nicely. That's what I've got in Billie. She's got them up now. On the FB she said that they'll be up for a while. Not sure how long a while is though lol.

I caved and asked Raccoon when my Damien would ship and they said next week! I am excited!

 

I think I have 6mm in all of mine. The 6mm doesn't have a small iris option, so if you want that option you can get 8mm with small iris. There's a chart on most eye pages so you can see the relative measurements of size, eye width, regular iris, and small iris.

 

Yay, next week!! So exciting. Looking forward to seeing the Damien guys as they arrive to their new homes.

@TatterPunk & @vermont chick Thank you both so much for the information. I will need to look and decide on eyes for my Raccoon Doll Daisy and my FID Aurora.
Daisy's current eyes are pretty nice, but it is always nice to have options.

 

I have about four sets I definitely want, so I'll be ordering a bunch I'm sure. I definitely want the rainbow ones for my eventual Gene I plan to get. Oh wait, make that five. . . Yep, hopefully they keep them open at least a couple weeks into January 0__0. I need all of the eyes!

I'm super excited to get a guy doll again finally. Oddly enough I've only ever had one (an Iple SID Shane), so it's nice to be soon delving into the male gender of dolls. I'll definitely be interested to see what sorts of things fit the men, though I'm sure Julian will wind up with most of his clothes made by me due to the odd style his character seems to have. Sunday hopefully I can sew something for him. Yess. I need to make some pants for Billie too. Gotta make a run to the fabric store this week I think.

 

Can someone give me the link to the site to buy these eyes? I'd like to get a few pairs before they are gone.

I went through the Safrindoll pages listing all the eyes I liked and ended up with a list of 20 colors. No way am I buying that many eyes, no matter how inexpensive they are, so I narrowed my list down to 7. Now I have to decided which ones will be 6mm and which will be 8mm with small iris. I'm glad this sale is pre-order rather than like Doll Bakery's first-come-first-served policy. I was completely shut out of DB's most recent sale--everything was gone by the time I got there. (They don't make the smaller eyes.)

 

So I was reading previous post about Safrin eyes, just to be sure I am ordering the right size, type, etc.
If I pick 6mm, will there be a little gap? Is it better to go 8mm with small iris? Is 8mm/small iris an option for every eye color, or just some. Also I read something about 'resin basics' is that the same as urethane resin? I just want to be sure I am ordering the right ones.

Also, this is a pre-order? Are the dates on the website when they are expected to be delivered? August/Sept. Or will it be sooner?

 

Resin Basics is what Safrindoll calls its urethane eyes. I don't see a gap with my 6mm, but if you want to be absolutely certain then order 8mm with small iris. If the option is available, you'll see it in a drop-down menu under the size menu. If you order larger eyes for a different doll, be sure to look at the iris menu to see if there is a difference in price. It doesn't seem to make a difference with 8mm small iris.

It looks like they forgot to change the dates from the last pre-order period. My last order was in June of this year but I have no record of how long it took for the order to arrive. I'd plan on at least a month.

 

Thank you so much. I have about 10 in my cart but feel I should narrow it a bit.
I noticed some colors also come in a 'bold' option. Any experience with that?

 

I'm sure others feel differently, but bold colors are too bold for my taste. In the photo below, Sarah is wearing 8mm Bold Meadow, Monica is wearing 6mm Bold Juicy Pear, and Mika is wearing 6mm Bold Aegean. I like the Bold Meadow, but those Bold Juicy Pear look frightening no matter who's wearing them. (I'm so glad I looked through my envelopes, because I discovered I already have two of the colors on my want list.)


Correction: I just noticed that the envelope for the Aegean eyes says Natural. If this is natural I wouldn't want to see the bold. I was surprised by how green these are, as I expected a sea green to have some blue in it. I have 6mm Natural Tiger Lily (on FID Grace or I'd show them here) that also look brighter than you would expect. Caveat emptor.

So far I really like these eyes for Daisy. But I would like some green, hazel, light brown and gray options too.

I think I won't be able to narrow my list down anywhere smaller than 6. It's pretty bad lol. I need eyes for Echo (my FID Raffine) and Julian (my Damien) and then eyes for the doll I have on layaway, and for my future Gene, and for the Nana I want to get to replace my JID girl. And then I'm sure there's a pair I absolutely neeeed. Doomed.

Billie's piano shipped last weekend, I'm hoping the post office got it sent air this time instead of ground, cause neither I nor Billie wants to wait a month for that piano. There will of course be all of the pictures once I get it. She and Echo can have proper jam sessions.

 

Sweet Mocha Version of David now up along with some new clothes for him. Thankfully, I like the Dark Star version that I've already ordered of him.

 

@LaurieESW dollmore offers the 6mm ovals the FID and Raccoon come with in the glass version. They have several colours. I am getting 8mm eyes from Ancient Tales on etsy for mine. I know someone posted pictures of a girl wearing them, but I forgot who it was, so I am not sure how they will look. I have those in 4mm for my Ancient Tales Rachel, and they are great to photograph.

 

Thank you! It is great to have more options out there for eyes. I asked Kemper if the oval glass eyes they sell are glib, have not heard back yet from them. But I thought from a previous time I ordered from Dollmore and later Kemper that I compared and the eyes were identical.

 

I feel the same way. Comparing the photos, I think the main difference--and the reason for my preference--is the thinner eyebrows on Dark Star David.

@LaurieESW - I believe the Glib and Kemper eyes are the same. Is your Daisy wearing Glib? I like how realistic they look.

@TatterPunk - Go with as many pairs of eyes as you can afford, in case they are discontinued. (Nothing about it on the website that I can see; however, I'm not on FB where the notice apparently originated.)

@ResinRapture - I'm eager to see how your girls will look with the Ancient Tales eyes. I want to see them on a few dolls before I take the plunge.

 

@vermont chick They have a 3mm iris, so they'll be rather small. If you want the softer look of larger iris sizes, I guess the glib natural oval glass are the better option. I have those, too, but I found them rather dark in comparison.

 

I got my Daisy from Jim. He had picked these beautiful eyes for her. It is my understanding they are glib. I really like them and may never change the color for her.

 

I have Ancient Tales eyes in my FID Leonard and love them:

Shipping update: Damien is in New York. I'm hoping he'll move quickly, the way my FID Isis did. Maybe I need to stop checking every hour.

@Uminari - I like the Ancient Tales eyes your dolls are wearing. 8mm looks so small I'd be afraid to buy their 6mm. Did you specify small iris?

I got those: Puppe Augen 8mm Kugel, 3mm Iris. Urethan kleine BJD Augen 3 mm Harz Puppenaugen. BJD Puppenaugen 8. Handgemachte kleine Bjd Augen. Das menschliche Auge realistisch
I wouldn´t buy the 6 mm. The 8 mm are just big enough to fit without gapping in my Leonard. With Mari they had gapping at some positions but she has pretty big eyes

I have my Mika wearing 6mm Safrin doll eyes, and I just ordered more from them, sad to see them close up shop.

 

It sounds like Safrin is just not making their own brand anymore, but they're still retailing other brands. Safrin FB (Scared me for a second. I usually go to them for Eyecos.)

 

Ah okay at least she is not closing her entire shop, I will miss her eyes, they are really nice.

 

Yaay Julian is queued for shipment!! I hope he moves to shipping soon! I shall need to begin making things for him this week!

It's pre-Christmas rush! Everything is a bit slow this time of year.

 

I know. And yet FID Isis dashed through the airport and regional PO like a marathon runner. I was hoping Damien would do the same.

 

Guess who showed up this morning? I wasn't even dressed yet!

The short mohair wig I ordered was so tight I couldn't make it stay on. Raccoon included a piece of Velcro; I didn't think it would help so I rummaged through my wig bins and finally found one that fit with a wig cap. It's a 6-7 from Luts for their Honey Delf but seems to run smaller than usual. It's not the color or type of hair I would have chosen for him but it will do for now. I wasn't planning on pale blond with milk mocha skin.

I managed a few comparison photos in the brief time I had enough light to work with. (Snowing again.) I'll wait for another post to show one.

I forgot to mention the box! You know how the box for the girls shows The Birth of Venus with raccoon ears and tail? Well, the box for the men shows Michelangelo's David with raccoon ears and tail. Love it!

I'm amazed everyone stood unaided for this photo. Lawrence is very loose and Cuba seems to have developed a slouch. Damien arrived strung looser than I like--I may have to restring his arms. Next time the guys will sprawl on their sofa.

 

Nice!! So is Damien a tad taller than Lawrence?

 

Damien is looking really handsome and fits in well with the Iple and Soom males. Congrats of his arrival.

 

@Patrice S - Thanks! Soom ID51 has a slightly larger head; otherwise, all three are in scale.

@LaurieESW - Damien is a whole 2 cm taller than FID. The extra height is all in the legs. Damien is slightly narrower through the shoulders, chest and hips. His waist is 0.2 cm larger and feet are 0.5 cm shorter. Damien is also 0.5 cm taller than ID51.

 

lol I didn't even notice! totally love! my blank Damien too arrived today... it'll be a long while before I can work on him. so happy to have yours to admire in the meantime. ^^ gratz!

 

Congrats on Damien's arrival @ATYL! I can't wait to see one with an owner face-up. Do you have a look that you're aiming for, or will you let it develop based on the sculpt? He's got a slightly pouty mouth and a hint of a scowl between the eyebrows. Kind of reminds me of FID Arvid that way. He'll be fun to paint.

I am trying to decide if I want short or longer hair on Julian. I guess I'll have to wait till he's here to decide for certain. I'm thinking an undercut either way. . originally I was going to go with shorter-ish, but now I think it would be nice to be able to braid it.

As I feel like beeing the grinch in that crazy crazy christmastime, my lady does the same as I do: Solveigh is relaxing with Snowball... Ok, it´s not her cat. She belongs to my Raven (Iple Eva) but Snowball seems to like her and was kind of "brrrbb brrrb stroke me, love me, cuddle me"

 

Aww the kitty is so cute. Solveigh looks very relaxed in her chair.

 

@TatterPunk - Thanks! The wig is a Monique Gold Ginger in golden auburn/golden strawberry. She was wearing a Ginger in a lighter color combination, except I found that it fit Daisy Elf so Rosie got the new wig. It's not quite as red as it looks. They were standing under my dining room light, which heightened the color somewhat.
