Raccoon Doll Discussion - Part 4

Helloo ;v; I've fallen in love with the glamorous raccoondoll body - it's exactly the amount of curvy I've been looking for - but I have a feeling the Luts Lishe head I have may be too big for the body - anyone tried a raccoon doll hybrid? Thanks!

 

@pinnku - I haven't tried this particular hybrid and no longer have any Minifees, but here's a side-by-side of a Raccoon Lucy (slim body, sorry) and a Minifee Siean, just for height and head size. Lishe (carried over from Luts) is one of the larger heads; Siean is smaller. Your proposed hybrid might look a bit bobble-headed.

My Mika head has shipped! Sooooon I will be able to unite her with her body. SOOON. Her hands still won't match (the only extra hands I have are white and the body's NS), buuut one thing at a time.

 

Congrats on your Mika head @TatterPunk ! For the time being you can always pretend she is wearing white gloves. Lace probably isn't your thing, but what I would do is make a removable pair of white lace cuffs that she can wear with the white hands to enhance the effect.

 

I've been experimenting with making painted eyes for my smaller resin dolls. I find it challenging to capture their eyes in photographs so I wondered whether its really necessary to have the same glass/acrylic types of eyes that we use in our larger dolls for these smaller versions. Laetitia is probably not the best example as she has large eyes anyway so is easier to take photo of but here's a quick comparison...I've replaced the eyes in most of my FID/Raccoons now but will need to make more eyes to try to improve them.

Wow beautiful. To me the painted eyes look better but only because you can see the whites in her eyes more. It makes a huge difference.

 

The painted eyes look good. Most of the acrylics have a transparent layer and that pushes the whote and iris back into the head and that can be significant with small eyes.

The painted eyes look great! What are you using for the base? I experimented with polymer clay once but I couldn't shape it smooth enough--or make two exactly the same size. Then there's the matter of trying to paint something that small. I can't do it, myself. You have my deepest admiration and respect.

 

@vermont chick I am using white polymer clay - I have some more in the oven as I type I have also been mulling over making molds for them but tonight I decided again to just go ahead and roll small balls of clay. As long as the irises are painted to match (and yes that's a little challenging too!) it doesn't matter too much about the size of the eyeball itself as long as it fits into the eye-well. I'm finding them much easier to position too because there is no transparent bump to get in the way if you want to move them up or down.

I have only sealed the paint at this point but I could use some more glossy sealant to make them have that shine but I held back doing that as I'm looking for eyes that are easier to photograph and I figured in their matte form they might be easier.

I have Rosie in some simple photos now too...snapped late in the day...

Give it a try @vermont chick ! I got a bit frustrated by the tiny eyes. I absolutely love this size of doll but I was struggling to photograph them. I'm finding this a simple solution

Now the next thing I need to tackle is smaller wigs! I do love the Monique wigs for my girls but I need sleeker styles and definitely some nice short hair for the boys...somehow

 

Yes on both counts! Eyes and wigs for this size doll is something I want to attempt also. I would LOVE to learn how to make short wigs especially. You are definitely inspiring me Lyanne!

 

Yay, she's here!! And thus I have my hybrid (Raccoon Mika head on an old Iplehouse JID body)
I've named her Eleanor, and she's already being a little difficult. Apparently she has decided to change my plans for me >__>. Troublemaker. I was gonna give her pastel rainbow hair, but it seems she wants seafoam or green hair. Good thing I have plenty of colours of alpaca hair lying around!

Does anyone know if Raccoon doll wigs fit Iplehouse FIDs and vice versa?

 

I have always used the same wigs for both.

In my experience, it depends on the wig--and how long you've had it. The wigs I bought from Raccoon wouldn't go on FID heads right out of the package, but they did after I let Raccoon girls wear them for a while to stretch them. The wigs I bought from Raccoon are made by For My Doll, whose caps don't have as much stretch as Monique wigs, which I usually buy. The hairstyle has a lot to do with whether or not a wig will fit. Loose styles usually fit both, whereas anything tightly braided or pulled into a bun will fit Raccoon but not FID until it has been stretched.

I finished Eleanor's wig today, she's already starting to come together. Definitely a different hair look than I had originally planned, but I think I like this much better. Now hopefully I can get to painting her this week!

I will take better photos of the poor girl when there's light out, but I finished Eleanor's faceup today. She ended up much more Nu-goth than the original intended Pastel Goth, but I definitely love this look for her.

I have to say I LOVE your girl and her beautiful face up! Is that the Laetitia dreaming face? I wondered how open the eyes would be but yours is just beautiful!!

I actually sewed things for my dolls last night! Well. . a thing. For Eleanor. Since I finished cleaning everything up here I actually have the space and time to work on doll stuff which makes me super happy. Also, it turns out that Elle will actually wear pretty fancy dresses as long as they're a bit spooky! Unlike some other dolls -squints at Echo-.

I just finished a few new medieval gowns for my gals. I really love how these dresses look on these
amazing bodies. I’d found some new slinky stretchy fabrics and wanted to try those out in this pattern.
I’ve enjoyed these fabrics so much that I’ll probably make more of these gowns in other colors too.

And my brand new Lara (sweet mocha resin) just arrived today! She’s quite wonderful too.
My original Gene is also modeling (also sweet mocha). Both are barefoot on different stands.
Both wearing Iplehouse FID wigs. I will probably put oval glass eyes into Lara shortly.

The other project I've been working on is a room box. It's been planned a long time, but I finally got the floor laid down on Monday. I really wanted something with floorboards which could be somewhat to scale with the 1/4 and fashion range dolls, so I used Tack Board which we (mum and I) pulled the zillions of nails out of. Here is Eleanor modeling the floor and her dress.

Thank you! I will try to remember to get some group photos this weekend or so. She pretty much reads as a petite person maybe a little younger than all my other dolls. More teenager-y than the others.
