Do Kumako's have a hard time sitting? I bought this cute little couch for my girl, but getting her to sit up is like almost impossible. She just kinda flops over backwards.

It's been a long time since I've had a bjd, but I feel like all the other volks girls I had sat up really well!

 

Mine have a hard time sitting too. The thighs aren’t very stable. In general posing is kind of a fight, which is surprising considering the notches to help keep everything set. I’ve had a lot of different types of BJDs in the past, and though I really like the sculpt, look, and feel of the doll, functionally it’s hard to pose - that said other than the thigh and balancing issues, when I set a pose it does stay. I do have to have them lean back against something though - maybe because they are too heavy for the joints. Even though she is an MSD size, she feels like an SD in weight and handling

 

Huh.............. Mine is a good sitter I have to say. Posing him is difficult though I can vouch for that. But I don't know why sitting can be a hassle for you guys but not me.

 

the boys have a torso joint which can help with sitting but the girls (barring the eggs) do not, that being said i can usually get my lala to sit but she does need something behind her to help her stay up. for my kuku to sit i just adjust his torso so hes leaning forward a bit and he usually sits nicely.

 

Sharing my girl now that I’ve got her face/eyes/hair/outfit sorted out. I have new eyes and a wig coming in that will be her final look, but so far so good. She is sitting and leaning against the wall haha

Baby got new clothes and wig . The outfit is meant for someone else, but it looks adorable on her even if it's a bit big^^.

Probably should have posted photos of him when I finished his face-up lol! Well, better late than never I guess! He's such a cutie! Got him second hand off Mercari via a proxy. I was so happy too since Kumako was one of my grails since I found out about them! You can tell which Touhou character I was thinking of when I say the idea for him was a "little vampire prince," lol!

 

Anyone have any idea on what to scale patterns to (up from 1/6 scale and down from 1/3 scale) to fit Puyoo Kumako/Chubby dolls? Even a rough idea just to help me get started! I have some cute patterns for other scales I'd like to see if I can modify to fit!

I know the measurements are kinda wonky from other 1/4 dolls.

I’ve been DESPERATELY trying to figure this event out since the teaser pics, I can’t make heads or tails of it ;A;

 

Does anyone know if this dollheart set fits kumako? I'd hate to take such an expensive gamble!
MD000503 Ajisai story - Dream [MSD/MDD]

 

Yeah, Kumako fits most MDD/Volks MSD sized clothes in my experience, just bottoms and stockings are iffy because of the big hips and chubby legs, but dresses should be no problem, especially loose ones like that one^^.

I received my second Kumako head today, a custom Ruru, and I'm so in love. Here's a quick shot of both my Puyoo babies, excuse the flash:

I noticed that the shop on puyoo's japanese website updated with stock with baby and 1/4 eggs. This is probably a dumb question, but can we order from there?

Has anyone had a good experience ordering this way?

I'm always in the in-between season when looking, this is the first time I've seen stock on the website before!

*edit* OoP there's a footnote saying you can't order the baby's internationally, but not one for the 1/4 eggs!

I kinda put off mentioning this, combined with the fact that this is the 1/4 Kumakos and not the 1/6 Baby Kumakos, but I got my hands on the Baby Kumako EGG-02 (thank proxies for that)! I've had it since January and have plans for a fanart doll of..... an obscure Japanese RPGmaker indie game series character??? But I love that guy so much so I wanna go through with it, lol!

No, Kumako is not a Big Baby. The Big Baby description is for dolls that are ~45cm tall but have a larger head (8+ inches) and childlike proportions. 1/4 Kumakos have wide hips and busts that make them more adult than child. Additionally, the styling of Kumako by the company is often adult-y, compared to the styling of, say, DearSDs, which are always styled as children by the company.

1/4 kumakos wear 8-9 inch wigs

If you’re looking for clothing, they can wear most MSD (particularly if they are A-line, or loose tops). Bottoms are a little trickier.

online you’ll see a lot of things labeled as “Bear Sister” and that’ll be referring to Kumako size.

 

Mochi-ashi I think is possible. Regular MDD is a no for the same reason as the pants. If it can fit a mochi-ashi MDD I think it can fit a Kumako though.

 

@RozenGermain: Just throwing this out there because I was just on the site. Dollhearts is having a 20% off sale (I know still expensive...) and they note on each item if it fits Kumako.
Dollhearts clothing: MDD / MSD│1/4

 

Some MDD stuff does fit! It really depends on the size. Things that are stretchy, more loose fitting and flow-y can fit. I have a few Volks MDD/MSD outfits that work great!

Anything labeled at "slim" however won't fit!

Has anyone had to restring their kumako before?

Mine is getting a little loosey goosey. I think it is probably time to restring her -- but I'm soooooo out of practice. The last time I've restrung a doll was like 15 years ago .

Does anyone know if you can use the Volks MSD elastic on other 1/4 size dolls? T_T Is that a stupid question? Anything I need to keep in mind or look out for?

Also if you happen to have a favorite guide/resource or any tips for me I'd greatly appreciate your help!

 

Can't say I've had to restring mine despite him being second hand... I think it's the jointing as to why.... I have no idea if there are even guides on how to restring Kumakos anyway...... Sorry....

 

I feel like there's probably a stringing guide with their papers since you'd have to partially unstring them to switch to the legs.
Can't seem to find it online though

 

The booklet does show how to replace the legs, but that's it! It doesn't mention how long the string is, etc.
