Projects (Final casts on pg 8 & last sculpt, Ankaa) [Completed]

V chan - I might make a two peice torso for him. I'm going to do this, and then I'll start making the different parts.

Quilibet - I don't know if I work fast or I just don't have a life ! A relaxing evening for me is sitting down to sculpt (although I really want to fix my computer so I can watch some anime now and again).

 

Thanks! I've been busy and haven't gotten on these threads lately! Just a small update as to what I'm doing...The Phaet that I'm working on is being shelved for a bit...I've realized due to his size that I'll need a large (and haha more expensive) pressure chamber in order to cast him. So I'm doing some experimenting with the boys I have now to see if I can make anything neat. Also, I'm going to discontinue the original Ain and introduce a new boy....



He hasn't been named yet and he'll be the first that I'm trying a twist on headcap (if that fails I may go to magnets...not sure yet). And those ears are definately going to change.

Hello,
Been kind of busy lately, but gotten some work done on the new dolls - they're in the first post....big picture, can't miss'em. I've finally started a girl! Most of the progress photos, though, will go in my scraps section at deviantart ( I don't think I can keep up everywhere).

I've roughed out her body and arms and legs will be coming along soon.

 

His eyes have changed a bit since that first picture. It looks like he'll take 14mm eyes, but his eye wells will take up to 16mm. I think he's just about done!

 

Maia has a mouth hole! She'll have removable teeth like Keid!

 

Thanks guys! I'm really having fun making this doll! I should have her ready for a test stringing in a week or so (unless I run out of steam). It's been a while since I made an entire doll !

 

Well, since this thread is still here....

I'm still working on the girl's joints and thought I'd update.



This is the first girl I've sculpted in clay. Before that I've made one carved from wood last year. I think I'm rusty.... and I hope this gets better.

Bruny - Thanks! The light I used sort of washed out the details...just another something I need to work on .

twigling - Thanks! I keep worrying that she's too thin. Her measurements now are 22-17-24 (in cm) and she's right at 57cm tall. And I love the artdolls and how they are photographed!

petitefilou - You know, I've heard that about Naos...that he actually looks like a boy! I think it's his nose .

 

Okay, I think I fixed the picture thing. Now you should once again be able to see Maia's full body. I guess photobucket is "improving".

MieAga - Ahhg! do you really think she has an anime type body? Okay is that good or bad!? Maybe I watch a weeeee bit too much anime - and it shows? I was going for a more slender teen looking girl and I may do a plumper version later on if the mood strikes!

 

Yeah, she does look nice with the boys I have. But she's not too thin (I think) to look good with larger boys (I think Phaet will eventually be near 68-70cm guy, must get larger pressure chamber!).

And I'll have a moment of squeeling here...I just got her kitty-cat mary janes today from releaserain and they fit her little clay foot perfect(or purrrfect)! Jeez, wanting to finish a doll so bad so it can wear a cute pair of shoes...go figure!

 

I think I might have Maia the way I want her. For some reason I couldn't get her mouth right and I almost closed it again, but gave it one more try. Her teeth insert has a little tongue on the lower part instead of teeth(not that you could see it unless you took it out or looked really close ).



Anyway, they're still a bit of lopsided-ness to even out (pictures are great to discover this ).

 

Yeah, her mouth does look like Keid's (not that I mind, I loooove that mouth). Actually, in some frustration, I had him model for me because I couldn't remember how I did it before ! I keep telling myself, enough with the open mouths...but I don't listen. I think somewhere in the back of my mind, one of my MSD sizes will have it too. I can't help it!

LadySaiyuki - I think she'll have many possibilities! I had thought of a geisha too, maybe paired with the new Izar boy as a samurai (he has such a stern look)!

Miss_Pygmalion - Thanks! I just had never sculpted a girl before from clay, and I'm surrounded by real and resin boys, I had nothing to draw from, so I was worried!

She has her torso joint now! So all the jointing will come next which always stresses me! I'm going to go with a two part torso for now, and maybe later on this year I'll see what I can do with a three part (for additional posability).

AND.....I've started the MSD sized doll! Somebody shoot me, now....Actually, he's starting off very well (got the size and proportions right on the base on the first go so I'm happy). I'm planning a boy called Tyl (yet another star) and he should have a bit of an attitude problem!

 

I think I'd like to make a larger bust version later on.

 

Long lost Izar...I decided to do some more messing. He's one of those sculpts that I don't have a clear picture in my head to start, but I'll know him when I see him...sort of thing.



He looks a bit different without this particular lighting, but I thought I'd go with it. Still needs some sanding at this point.

I think I'll be making both Izar and Maia's head molds in the next few days. I think seeing them in a fleshtone with face-ups will give me the boost I need to finish the projects I have going! I think I'll even mod some miscast parts so Maia has a temporary body while I finish everything else (I knew all those parts would come in handy for something!).

This face-up is a quick one. I haven't had much time at all lately to give any of my dolls quality attention ! And her head is a bit flat on top...she's borrowed a Keid head cap (and teeth!) until hers are finished!

 

Now for Izar (Izzy!)...please excuse the face-up, I'm still fiddling with how I want him to look!





and on a body...a new body...I've been so busy...



The boys will be getting a body update and should fit normal clothes in the future. I haven't posted any pictures of the body yet, but will when he's done. So far with the clay version, I've found the three part torso to pose very well, and...no belly poppin' !

* the bodies in the photos are in the early primer stages and haven't been smoothed out too much yet (that's about six more coats down the line ).

 

Not odd! This was the part that I had to really think about. I think sculpting breasts can be a bit tricky.
