    2. Blue Oracle, Poetic Soul: I concede! Too cute, and so beautifully done! This is fun seeing them all come together.

Elfmoon...I hate to ask, but is it too late to get on the extension list? I have been absolutely swamped and while I could technically meet the challenge, I really really really want to at least try to do his hightops. Right now, the only accessory is a hat, which doesn't really count IMO. Besides...he really wants his hightops...

    21. I made it, I made it, I made it! Wheeee! I was sure I'd need that extension. Fun challenge! Lots of firsts for me. First pockets, (never even made them in people-sized clothes!) first grommets, first shoes, first actual pattern (I've always done a gross cut, draped and basted.) I had a heck of a time with the flaps on the cargo pants. I tried everything...snaps, velcro...finally gave up and made bound button holes and I'm pretty happy with how they came out. Everything else was just too bulky.

To all the lurkers who've thought about doing one of these...I really recommend it! I'd probably have procrastinated for months on Wiishu's promised cargo pants...if I ever got around to it at all...and having committed to do it, I was "forced" to figure some things out now instead of later. Also...I was probably pickier than I might have been doing it on my own and in a hurry. Again...I really recommend it!

Gail4c: very nice! Did you use a stretch denim for those jeans? They certainly fit nicely.

    24. Namaro: That is SOOOOO cute! Having just acquired a puki pukisha and modded the clothes for him (big mod: took out stiff velcro and replaced with snaps) I can only be amazed at what you created for your little fellow. In anticipation of little Pukishu's arrival, I made him a little robe (so he wouldn't be nekkid) according to the Fairyland specs....and couldn't believe how tiny it was! And I love your glam-shot!

What would we do for these tiny guys without socks?!? That knit is wonderful.

    26. Congratulations on some great entries, you guys!

I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I have to throw in the towel. I'm not going to be able to finish and photograph my project in time even with the extension. I originally planned a cropped muscle tee, with a fine cotton jersey knit fabric printed by me on the computer (completed), a pair of linen drawstring house pants (not done), a hand knitted kimono-style cardigan (partially complete) and a pair of hand knitted socks (completed) as the accessory. The problem is, I lost too much time working on the first version of the cardigan. I was using a very fine gauge and it really ate up time, then it became apparent that it was going to be much too big. I completely redesigned the pattern for a different needle and yarn combo, started all over again, and it's working out very well now, but it is now clear that I won't finish in time for this challenge. I plan to continue and finish at a more leisurely pace, but I'm officially withdrawing from the challenge..

    28. Thank you Vindalootoo and Blue Oracle. I love little Wiishu's outfit. My original intention was to make cargo pants as well, but I just couldn't deal with tiny pockets in that fabric. It frayed almost instantly after cutting. I am amazed at the high tops you made. They are so cute and have so much detail. Great job.

    30. MilkBunny...this is adorable. I've been looking forward to seeing what you did with that pretty corduroy. What an unusual little body she has and the design looks great on her. It actually celebrates her uniqueness.
      Very cool.

namaro: thank you! I'm so glad elfmoon gave me the headzup on the black cat fabric I'd chosen initially. The fleece was the key not only to the jacket but the hightops as well. They were easier than I feared they'd be. A few design changes and I should be able to make shoes that won't skid under him! YAY! Most shoes don't give much traction. I used the non-skid shelf liner and I think it'll be a pretty good bottom sole for him. I also need to make very specific boots for my two CLines, and this convinced me I can do it, so I was really grateful for this challenge.

Cargo pants on that tiny little guy?!? the mind boggles! I got around the fraying thing by using the real feather-weight iron-on interfacing, but I'm not sure that would work on something half the size I worked on, even in the lightweight rayon. Wait...not even half, is he? 11cm or thereabouts? Yipes!

    35. Thanks for the compliment; when I can finally get it to work I'll post the outfit in the chat thread. It seems lately everything I touch goes wrong. Corduroy is a difficult fabric for any type of detail other than the simplest of styles. And being sick for almost three weeks doesn't help much either.
Your outfit is adorable - down to the shoes! Aren't the littlefees, especially the Shiwoos, fun? And my crew has grown a bit since I made the slideshow - I'm way behind on my photography too! The tag line I found in an Oriental-themed game I have.

    36. So sorry you've been sick! The flu is terrible this year...in all it's insidious forms. Just hope you're feeling better now. I've never tried detail with corduroy... certainly nothing this small...but it made a lovely and very tough replacement for velvet back in my SCA days. I LOVE what FloraLaguna did with the corduroy in that coat detail. The bias cut makes it look like a rope edging on the pocket. (Taking notes...) But it can certainly get bulky in a hurry....

I got Wiishu in September. Never been a doll person..., but these BJDs definitely are something special...and I've hugged his little eyelashes off! (I know...I'm a terrible mom...) He's got no eyelashes left, his little body is a little dirty from all the handling...I seriously need to make him a body double for making his clothes!...and I adore every smudgy little bit of him. (He'll get a nice cleanup when I get the sealant to do a little body-blushing). He's incredibly cute with his new little Pukisha brother...altho they're on a "sitzin strike" right now: no more posing until I get a package off to his Momma-D...

Cats have staff, house-elves have slaves...or maybe I'm a minion...

And I just realized I resized my pictures too much :doh - I had 460 pixels as the largest side in my mind. Is it possible to edit the photos with the exact same ones, only in the correct size?

    47. I agree, these outfits are great! Did everybody manage to do everything the way you planned? For me, I regret not being able to make all the accessories I wanted to (an embroidered scarf and earmuffs were planned and I was flirting with the Idea of gloves). Also, while I'm quite happy with how my first complete pair of jeans (skinny ones for a curvy girl, at that!) turned out, I still wonder if on the whole the outfit would have looked better with dark green ones? Also, I really regret being so short on time I could not even take nice pictures with more attention to detail to present them properly.
BTW, does anybody know if/where you can get in scale buttons that look well on jeans? I like to keep every functional and it would be lovely if for the next pair of pants they could be buttoned up like the real deal and not "just" with a snap

@ namaro: I love your presentation! The sock fabric (?) was such a good choice for his norwegian sweater and the hat is really cute. It almost looks like it was felted.

@ Blue oracle: this is such a nice ensemble. I like how the accessories tie everything together by being of the same materials. Also wow, that high waisted skirts gives your girl such long legs รถ_รถ

@ neo-ragdolls: aw, she is such a cutie pie in creams and pink! I really like the ruffled top and all the accessories. You made fur/suede boots as well! It almost seems as if they can open on the inside? That would be pretty cool - mine are slip-on

@ poetic soul: She is so colorful! During winter, I tend to go with very muted colors ( I tend to really like grey during this season >_>) but I always tell myself how nice it would be to wear something very colorful to break the more somber winter feelings. I love all the details in your coat especially!

@ FloraLaguna: wow, it looks so well constructed! Using the coat lining also for the pockets is a nice touch - it really makes me want to put my hands inside as it seems so cozy and warm! I really admire your pants construction skills. I find it difficult to keep the bulk down at the waist band due to all the layers enclosed. How do you manage? Or is it also maybe a matter of size difference between MNF and EID?

@ Milk bunny: oh, your girl looks like she migh be quite small - that must have been pretty difficult to accomodate. Her whole styling is really cute (I guess we share similar tastes ;) ) Love the styling of the blouse with the slightly poofy half-length sleeves!

@ Gail4c: your girl looks so fabulous! The texture of the coat looks really cool but like it might have been difficult to sew, so kudos. I also really like her shirt with that swooping ruffled neckline!

@ LyteAngel777: I adore the sleeveless hoody with the fur collar as well as the poofy skirt and the matching headband! Very cute idea :3

@ Child-Of-Thy-Light: Love, love the poncho, especially in that fabric - super great find!

@ Vindalootoo: Your little guy is such a model XD! Like the others, I'm in awe of your super detailed shoes, however, I also know the difficulties of making functional pockets, so really kudos for managing well on that small scale! Also love the tiny toggles - they're such a nice detail!

@ Kitty Blue: I really like your outfit! You also put in so much attention for detail with all the accesories (that belt and those earmuffs are super cute and the solution of shoes for the clawedd feet is really cool). Also, I like what you did with the satin blouse - the neckline, poofy sleeves and and the pintuck/cording (not sure of the proper term) makes it much more interesting than a plain cut would have been.

@ wyldangel; I really like the combination of colors and fabrics you have; the shawl closed with a brooch is really clever and looks like it would be very nice to wear and it looks really nice on your girl, kinda reflecting her color combinations and the slightly fragile air she seems to have!

    48. Like (since there is no like button..lol)

I hear ya on challenging body shapes...My EID girl is large busted and much thicker than my slimmer BJDs..drafting her bodice pattern was fun..lol

I hear ya on the real jean snap front..obviously they have them out there because I have some clothes that I purchased that have them, yet me search has come up with nothing other than the sew on normal snaps. I refuse to attempt a zipper though in pants..lol..life size is bad enough let alone doll scaled, but who knows maybe I'll be up for the challenge eventually...would like to purchase some smaller zippers though for boots, I had to use snaps on mine. Also I'd like to know the secret on pants/jeans waistbands..I seem to occasionally have the same problem though more on MSD scale than my SDs. And thank you for the compliments I agree totally with the shirt details I did..I had oringinally planned vertical pintucks but I thought...hmm why not something a little different. I went for a more classy kinda casual wear for her because thats what she seems to like.

      As always

    51. Windspiel: Your girl's new faceup is beautiful! As for your question regarding you darling outfit: I love color (obviously) but the balance you've struck with the gentle sparkle of pinks and greens in the blouse and lining is very pretty. Just the right green would work, IMO, but I'm not sure it would be better...or as versatile as that nice lively grey. Certainly the grey is as versatile as Wiishu's pesky black, and shows the details. I just checked out the seaming in the back of your jeans. I mean... wow. The yoke's beautiful. And love the heart pockets (you and PoeticSoul will convince me that hearts are viable clothing items yet! :D) Did you make the boots? I LOVE them. She's a Minifee, isn't she? I'm not sure I'm going to be able to resist a pair of those some day. I think the balance on the outfit is lovely. I wondered about gloves, too, but the Fairyland hands are so expressive, it's kind of a shame to cover them up! I'd like to have seen your embroidered scarf and earmuffs. Are the earmuffs held on with a complete band around the head? Or is there actually a source for the "spring" (I've been wondering about this for earphones as well.)

Re: Pockets: Thanks! I'd never done pockets of any kind and ended up doing three different kinds for these pants! :o Talk about jumping into the deep end. Fortunately, I'd just gotten done investigating how to do the side seam pockets for an outfit I'm planning for my CLine, so I had a pretty good mental picture of how to do that one. The others were just logistics, since they're essentially appliques. One thing I couldn't figure how to show in the pics: the big side-pockets actually have a working pleat down the center! I feared it would be too bulky, but I'm happy to report the rayon handled it very nicely. As for Wiishu and his posing: I tried to get him to just stand there, but he started giggling and it was all downhill...sigh...

Lessee... what would I do differently? Good question! (And if anyone has any suggestions....)

I fear several things since I was very much making this up as I went along. I'd do the bound button holes on the machine (before I assembled the pants) and on all the pockets rather than just the back hip pockets. I'd thought to fasten the pocket flaps with either snaps or velcro, both of which proved to be too bulky. By the time I decided to bite the bullet and try real button holes, I had to do them by hand and time didn't allow for the side pockets. I'd make the pants out of a lighter color. I wanted to go with khaki, but they didn't have the rayon in that color. White for Wiishu is insane, which pretty much left black...and the details get lost in the photos. The other option w/b to use contrasting tread in the top-stitching which, another time, I'd be brave enough to do. I've got to see if my machine has a foot that will help me gauge a topstitch better. I had to eyeball all of these, and my eyes are getting too old...

Hmmm...oh, yeah, I've got to figure how to do a better waist band. I only have a centimeter to work with between his ribs and hips. I wound up with too much fabric in the front crossover for a buttonhole and snaps just make it too bulky. There's a little lump right in the middle of his tummy. :( I'd make the arms on the coat larger so that I could use the blue fuzz as the liner rather than just trim. The muslin trial pattern worked fine and would have allowed for the fuzz-lining, but the fleece seam allowance used up more interior diameter than I expected, and there just wasn't room for the fuzz. I suppose I could have recut the jacket, but it was pretty time consuming and tricksey because of the arrow inserts on the shoulder seam, and I'd've had to go get more fabric...so I just made do with some some lightweight fabric I had that looked pretty with everything else.

What else...oh, the boots. Next time, a reinforced seam up the back. These work, and they're really cute, but he likes to dance, and the fabric is so soft, his foot can slip back just a bit when he really gets into his posing. A solid seam should fix that but still let him flex his ankle which was my major goal in designing them. All his purchased boots are just too stiff for him to do his action poses. I was kind of disappointed when I couldn't get him to hang onto his slingshot for the "glamor" shot. It's pretty cute. A real stick from the hawthorne tree in the backyard with a rubber band cut and self-tied to either end of the fork...a nice old-fashioned kid's slingshot! Anyway, I ended up just sticking it in his pocket for a "holster", and you can't really see what it is.

Yeah..lots I'd do differently. OTOH, my sewing machine that has been gathering dust for a decade or more got a good workout, and I'm already thinking of how to do cargo pants for my CLines and Wiishu's little brother. I really joined the challenge hoping it would gig me into doing something serious, and in that sense, I'm delighted with the outcome! Not to mention, I'm totally taking notes on what everyone else has done!

And Wiishu doesn't care that the side pockets don't button. :D

Lessee...who have I missed...LyteAngel...I love the idea of the sleeveless hoody. Your pretty lady seems very very slender. Hardly any shoulder seam there to work with, and you handled it nicely.

KittyBlue: Does the belt actually fasten the vest? Wait...no...I see it's on the outfit without the vest, too. Very pretty clasp, indeed. And love love love that mauve tone you found for the blouse.

Wyldangel: adore the star fabric, and again, such a yummy color. And the hooded shawl is a great idea. I've decided no more long sleeves with coat sleeves!

Darn. I know I've left out somebody, and my goofball cat is coming to sit on my hands which means it's seriously past bed time.

Oh...namaro: We've decided not a teddy bear, but an adorable little ewok! :D

      G'night, all.

    53. Not to fret! Monitors differ. I do covers for ebooks and print books and I finally had to get a monitor calibrator just to make the print version come out anything like what I was seeing on the monitor.

What matters most is the balance. What I'm seeing is the same tone as her ears, which is wonderful. When I say "mauve" that's a "shade of purple grey" and much more on the grey side than the purple, so don't fret. I didn't want to call it grey because it's a different grey from the one in windspiel's pants. OTOH, the pic of her out in the snow does show a lot more contrast. It was all a bit pink on the interior shots, so I'm glad you gave us the link! Maybe elfmoon would let you switch out her glamor shot for that one? At any rate, don't fret. It's a lovely outfit, either way.

    54. I don't know if comments like this belong here or in the more general PR threads, but one of the "I'm going to do it differently next time" thots I've had is to take a pic of my fabrics in natural light before I ever start. That way, if (when) I hit deadline crunch, I can take those photos and adjust my interior shots to match. Likely you all know this already, but most photo manipulation programs have a "white balance" or "temperature" balance which will let you adjust the overall colors to compensate for those pesky interior lights.

Something else I thought of...and which again, is probably old news to you-all, compact florescent lights come in all temperatures. You can get them in "natural sunlight". I don't know it that would make a difference...we tend to prefer the bit cooler 6500k lighting....but it's something to consider when choosing the lights for the shoot. (Dare I admit, I used no special lights, just took Wiishu to a display shelf in the bathroom:blush)

    55. Thanks, Windspiel and Vindalootoo. ^.^ The star fabric was originally for the leggings, but it does make a cute shirt too.

    56. I tried many times to create a fitting jeans pattern for my boys. It is not the real thing yet, I will try another one later. I try to use slim material, because there are lots of layers. I don't know the size difference, because I have just 2 EIDs, but I think it is a matter of material. But I don't know, maybe if I had another sized doll, I could be more helpful. Sorry about that.

    57. yea I did the best I could with editing my inside photos, as late as it as at night I should have been sitting an a more lit room when I was correcting the colors on them..lol.. because I do realize the colors are quite off. Or next time I will finish with time to spare so that I can take the photos outside in natural light. My camera has a white balance setting as well that I just didn't have time to fiddle with..but eh whatcha gonna do..lol.

    58. @ windspiel ~ thank you! :) Yes, her boots unsnap on the insides. I tried making spats but my initial pattern was too small, the same with the first set of boots. I love how they turned out though. microsuede with fleece lining, faux fur and pom poms...I <3 pom poms. I love the heart pocket on your girls pants! And her jacket is adorable. Would love to have one like that in my size! :D

Getting to see everyone's outfits is so awesome! I agree all the dollies get to rock some amazing winter threads. I kinda wish we had snow down here so I could take my little girl out and get some piccies of her making mini snow angels. >w< Has anyone had snow yet or taken their dollies out to get some winter photos?

    59. We had snow, but it's been too wet and heavy to risk his elastic. I had several photoshoots planned...including skating on the pond...and we've had the warmest, wettest winter we've had since we moved to Spokane! Very disappointed. Got Wiishu a snow shovel, made him skates and everything and he's had to watch wistfully from the window. :(

    60. Thank you, Windspiel, for your comments on my outfit. The coat material wasn't that hard, really. I like the way it turned out, too. The fur was the most difficult because it kept falling apart. Thank you, again.

I also love your outfit, too. Your whole outfit is so cute and your coat is wonderful!
