Project Runway ~ The Tales of the Arabian Nights Challenge ~ Game 12

Ugh, I've had a dolly emergency. Eric's foot has broken and it won't glue back together. I'm going to forge ahead as best I can and hope I can get him replacement feet in time for the final pictures. Either that or I'm going to have to make him a peg leg.

Though I suppose his boots would hide his missing foot too.

My boy just got hooves so none of his clothes fit him anymore and having an 70 stark naked with detailed peen is getting awkward -3-

 

The trousers of doom have been recut and fastened to a waistband. I'm thinking taht if time permits, I'll add another layer to this outfit.

 

I also bought a book at Joann's called "Stitch Step by Step" by Maggi Gordon and Ellie Vance. It has a lot of info - not only for embroidery but for other decorative stitches. They show you, picture by picture, how to do each stitch. There are some pretty interesting stitches, so fancy embroidery might not be a totally lost cause.

 

I have a huge book somewhere of needlework stitches and what not very similar to that...very true some are not so difficult, just time consuming..lol. I'm hoping to get working on my outfit soon, terrible procrastinator that I am..lol. It doesn't make it easy either having a new doll come in today.

 

I have that book! It's awesome, and the step-by-step pictures really do help. :]

I've been making pretty good progress on my costume after all the chores are done. I hope to take progress photos soon.

 

Is it too early to ask for the extention? I have a feeling I'm going to have to put this all together in the last week.

 

Clothes finished yesterday, just need to make a weapon, or two

 

I wish more people would share in progress photos. I know about the 'surprise' factor, but half the fun is seeing how people work. (I will post some as soon as I have some to share.)

 

Well, I finally got the top done. I just have to put a clasp on the back and add beads and stuff to it. This is usually how I end up doing things, right at the end. I'll be working right up to the deadline, I can guarantee it!

 

I'd actually share progress pics if I only had some progress. Nothing finished except for the pants and the shoes yet. Hopefully I can finish the top and the vest tonight and tomorrow.

 

Well, I am afraid my so called progress will result in laughter but here it is anyway... warrior's undershirt. It is not finished yet, but that's about all I have for now... sad, I know :P

I am trying hard to be historically accurate (or at least middle eastern accurate) but I am leaning toward a more 'fantasy' style outfit. The problem I am facing is fabric. I wanted a solid color for the undershirt, but somehow ended up with the stripes >.<
If I have time later on, I might re-do in solid, but I highly doubt it - I'm pretty sure I will need an extension too LOL

 

Sharkyra- those shoes, they shame mine. How long did you take on the beadwork?

Sephydoll- I like the shirt. I'm jealous you found such tiny stripes! I'm always hunting for scale prints.

elfmoon- stripes are actually one of the first patterns! Since they can be woven in, when the weaver-folk got bored, I guess somebody decided to spice things up!

 

Yeah! Progress picts! Thanks for sharing! I need to post some soon too. The most recent thing I got done was getting the embroidery patterns I wanted to use.

ukelala, they took me a couple of hours. I don't know how many though, but too many imho.

 

I find that there are one or two stitches that aren't perfectly clear to me, but if you ever get stuck, you can bet there's someone on YouTube who can actually do the stitch you want. I think I created a thread with a link to a place with videos. It's a good idea to have videos just in case you get confused. Some of the more elaborate stitches can be a little daunting to look at in pictures.

I'm currently using that book for something not related to this thread, or game, so I'll show it in the sewing section of DoA or gallery when I finish.

 

Got my fabrics at least..lol..and I've got stripes involved as well! No shoes for me since my boy actually has hooves. I was hoping to start today, but I just got a huge order last night that I need to work on first.

 

Elfmoon, please put me on the extension list, too - I'm sick. I thought it was just something I ate that disagreed with me, but four days later, weak and wobbly and running a fever, I guess it's a stomach flu of some sort. First jury duty, now pestilence. What next?

 

I found this fabric at my local fabric store - and it was on sale for $3/m!!! They had a huge sale and bunch of 'summery' fabrics so I got few with really nice prints. I buy fabric and used clothing whenever I see something I like because usually I don't find anything when I actually need it

My progress is slowly progressing... spent the whole day on pants and still not finished yet. I had tons of problems with the ankle cuffs - they don't go over the foot so I will have to take off the foot in order to put it on
I have so much left to do so no time (and no more fabric) to re-do the pants...

 

So, I think its going to come down to being like a real runway challenge, and I'm going to end up giving myself only days to work and finish this.

 

yep that is what normally happens with me as well so we'll be procrastinating together..lol

 

For once, I'm not on the procrastination bus, and I think I'll have my pics up tomorrow! Good luck in the time crunch, everyone!

 

Lol, there is something to be said about the excitement of doing things in the last minute. But I have at least done my planning and gotten patterns and fabrics together. So at least when I sit down to do this I can just start sewing.

 

At least you have your patterns done! For me, that's one of the most time consuming parts of the process, to turn the idea in my head into an actual pattern and then tweak it until it fits. That's also where dreams meet reality and the design gets modified to the elements I can actually figure out how to do. These challenges would be so much easier if we didn't have to make our own patterns! But I guess that's what designing is all about - going where none have gone before.

 

Well, crap. I just noticed the "only original patterns" thing. Which means I have to redo part of my outfit. I would really like an extension, please!

I'm usually really good at remembering all of the rules! Oops.

edit: Just checking: if I altered an existing pattern, would I be able to use that or not?

 

I'm sorry, but I will have to drop out. There's a family emergency and I will be away for a couple of days starting from tomorrow

Hope things work out for you Sharkrya. And I finally managed to get something done tonight. Mock ups of the pants and under-roos are done. I'm gonna see about the shirts and over coats tomorrow.

 

Please add my name to the extension list. I am now paying the price for my procrastination.

 

Pantsu, made from old sheets because muslin costs way too much. I can't wait to sew them up in the actual fabric!

Great looking pants hemlock! I used an old men's shirt I found at a local thrift store. I raid the store at least 5 times during a challenge >.<

Thanks, and it's a self-healing cutting matt, usually associated with quilt making. If you wait for a sale you can get them pretty reasonable at Jo-Ann's. I know I will be hitting up their Sunday sale to stock up on stuff.

in need of a big fat extension.... Did some patterning yesterday and bought materials!! But that's about it.

 

I can't help but notice that many people have finished their outfits and updated their entry posts, but then never posted about the update. Is that normal, or are we not supposed to alert everyone we finished?

 

got pretty far already tonight...everything cut out and started to sew..I'm thinking I'll be finished tomorrow night, but may have to wait until Sat or Sun to take photos. Of to look at the finished costumes..

Unfortunately it looks like I won't be able to finish in time, even with the 48 hour extension. Work has been too buisy this month and I won't have enough time to sew until late next week. I won't have an entry for the contest but if you like I can post a few pics of the outfit in a few weeks so you guys can see what I was working on.

 

Ugh need an extension, so fail.
