Project Runway Game 8 ~ The Pumpkin Patch Party Challenge WINNERS POSTED!

Sep 11, 2011

    1. I need to clarify a misunderstanding on my part. My doctor perscribed a new medication and apparently it's wreaking havoc on my thought process at the moment until my brain gets used to the effects!

Dragonfly's Treasure is the designer who posted her completed entry before the challenge started. For some reason I thought it was Cuprioyo-ladany.

We have accepted Dragonfly's entry and everything is good to go.

Cuprioyo was asking about a hood. I think that question was answered and understood.

Please accept my appologies for my state of confusion! My doctor says it's only temporary. Let's hope he's right! lol!

    2. That's okay, I too have been on some medications to turn my brains to goo before they do what they are supposed to do...If they are what your body needs; they will. Take your time...and don't push yourself too hard and let them do what they are supposed to do. I am currently on a new migraine medication that is supposed to help with the migraine induced seizures..so far so good. Good Luck..

    6. Cupricyo ~

ยก

I used an on line translator. I don't know how well it works. Do we have any Spanish speakers who can explain to her the rules of our challenge?

We have to disqualify her entry because it doesn't meet the requirements of the challenge. We hate to do this because of the language barrier.

      The requirements are:
The entry must be a costume. Her entry is not a costume.
There must be a treat container.
There must be a head item.
There must be a face item.

She is welcome to submit another entry before the game closes if it meets the requirements.

    13. As predicted, after making cute little pants, I got inspired in a completely different direction so now have to start from scratch. I don't have any sketches as my creativity comes out at the time of actually doing stuff LOL really sucks when you have to plan things... anyway, all I'm going to say is that my theme is "The Frog Prince" :) Hope I can deliver.

    16. So, I went to the store and bought all of my supplies. While I was at the store, I ran across a soft plastic turtle and picked him up so that I could gut him and use his shell for part of my bag. It was only after I got home that I realized this might be against the rules. So judges, can I mutilate a solid plastic turtle and use his shell along with fabric to make a bag or is the shell too much like something bought at the store? I would like to know before I start the deconstruction process on the turtle because it would be time and labor intensive to get the shell to a usable state. I can post a picture of the original turtle if it would help you make your decision.

      Thanks.

Here is the generous Mr. Turtle who has offered to donate his life in the name of fashion. My doll's hand is in there for size reference. I intend to cut off his head and legs and then hollow out his "body" so that all I have left is his back shell. I will then hot-glue some fabric to the inside of his shell to form a bag, leaving the top, where his head was, open so that candy can easily be dropped in. The bag will have one strap on the fabric side so that it can be worn on one shoulder and double as an accessory for my doll's Ninja Turtle outfit.

I got the right dremel bit today and hollowed out Mr. Turtle's shell. What a mess!

    27. I'm attempting to knit my entire costume but I have a question. Can I use an existing lace knitting pattern? Like, say I found a nifty lace stitch in a hat pattern that I want to use in a coat, the coat itself I would be designing, but I would be using the existing lace stitch pattern.

Cupricyo ~ Please make a bag to carry candy in and add it to your costume.
Please take five photos of your doll in her new mummy costume and post them in this thread.
We will then consider accepting your entry.

Please note that this is a sewing contest. All costumes must be sewn either my machine or by hand.

    32. Oh! I don't knit so I didn't understand what you meant. You don't have to design your own knitting pattern for lace if it's just a trim. We wouldn't do that to you! lol!

It would be the same as if someone bought pre made knitted lace, which you can, and used it as a trim for a fabric dress.

All costumes in this game must be sewn. This is a sewing contest. If your mummy costume is just gauze fabric drapped over your doll, we will be unable to accept it.

I don't think you are understanding the rules of this contest. I don't know how to help you any farther.

    39. The challenges always start on the first of the month and end on the last day of the month, so designers have either 28, 30 or 31 days to complete their costumes. There's also the 48 hour extension available after the last day of the month. Designers have to ask for it though.

I, too, feel badly for Cupricyo, but I feel I've done all I can do!

    42. Is Mr. Turtle made out of hard plastic? If so, you can drop him in boiling water (horror of horrors!) to soften him up and then use a hot knife to amputate his legs. Ugh! Or send him to Annie Wilkes (Misery) and let her do it for you!

I have the set and the plastic cutting edge is basically a hot knife exacto blade tip that heats up and cuts plastic...you should look it up and see if it would work for you better than just a soldering tip. it would give you better cutting ease and would make less of a mess. That and if you are going to use a hot knife you should think of doing it in a well ventilated place such as a back porch or a shop or garage.

    58. LOL..it's not really happy water. I made my costume for Emmaline in two days because I thought it had to be designed, sewn and photographed in that time. I understand now that it was a typo...LOL..but at that time I was up to the challenge, or so I thought because I watch the actual Project Runway show on Television and they usually have only two days to come up with something the same way. I was just making it smaller for a doll. I have a few patterns for her that I can use as starters. I fold a large piece of paper and then trace the half of the patterns for the larger pieces on the fold. Like the vest back. I then add design elements..Like the tentacles at the bottom and the neckline. I then do the same for the vest front but make sure that the lapel is slightly different from any regular kind of lapel. I use a duct tape body double to fit the outfit on so that I know how I will need to pinch in the pattern once I cut it out with scrap muslin and mark any changes with pins, and a permanent pen. I then mark out all changes on the paper patterns so that i have them later as well. It was fun creating this costume as I bonded two types of fabric together to make the vest. the outer fabric is a cotton batik and the inner lining is silk bonded together using an iron on interfacing called heatNbond.the heavy duty grade.
it made it stiff enough to hold the eyelets and not shred when I sewed the seams using a satin stitch on my sewing machine. Most of the supplies for the outfit came from the office supply/scrapbook supply area of the sewing and craft store. the butterflies, the stars, and eyelets were office/scrapbook supplies and the ribbons came from the sewing supply area. The fabrics were scraps from a costume I made earlier on this year. Her Shoes are made with the cotton batik and lined in felt using the same eyelets as I wanted the outfit to have continuity. I enjoyed entering thank you for letting me.
