    2. This may be the last game for Project Runway! Two of the judges flaked, as far as I know. One blocked her PM's and the other read my PM's, but failed to respond. Without tw***PLEASE READ*** o more judges I will have to close down this game. I'm very sorry to have to do that. I've really enjoyed hosting Project Runway and I hate to see it go. If anyone would like to be a judge, please PM to ASAP!!! Otherwise, if anyone wants to take on the game, I will help them to get established. Again, I'm sorry.

    3. I can't run Project Runway by myself. I need two judges to help me or I'll have to end the game. Judging does not take a lot of time. Judges are given a score sheet and an explanation of how to judge the outfits. Three judges insure against ties. The points from all three judges are tallied together to determine the winners. They also submit a short critique for those designers who request one. I get together with the judges to come up with new challenges and I write up the new game. It takes a few hours a month. Please, anyone who's interested in being a judge PM me so I can keep Project Runway going!

    4. Good news everyone! I'm in the process of signing on two new judges! Game 17 has been submitted to the MODS for approval and should be up shortly. I want to thank everyone who PM'd me for info on being a judge! I'm so happy that PR will continue! Thanks to all of you for your continued support of this game! I hope we can keep PR running for many more years!

    5. I asked the MODS if we could 'advertise' PR in other sub forums. This is her answer. I hope everyone will help to promote our game! **************** Unfortunately, dedicated threads just to bring attention to PR wouldn't be appropriate in the other subforums and non-game sections. However, you do have some other options --
--why don't you and/or some of the other participants create some kind of notice and link for your signatures? Signatures go everywhere on the forum that you go, and might well attract more people to take a look at the game.
--you could also put up a gallery thread highlighting some of the interesting outfits or presentations you've made for past editions of the game, and you can mention to others that they can do so as well. Or a group gallery post of a couple of past presentations (just be sure to get permission from each member before posting a picture of their doll). End it with a link to the current edition of the game.
--there are a number of specialized sewing-related threads in Sewing and Crafting for showing off one's creations. Sharing past creations there might interest other creative people to come take a look as well.
Hope this gives you some ideas!

    7. Those are actually great suggestions. A gallery thread is a great idea. Not just the winners, but any of the outfits you can get permission to post.

I don't think that dedicated posts would make much of a dent, but talking it up on discussion threads might. Just letting other people know how much fun we had doing the outfits and thinking in a different way might help.

Is there any chance, if there were enough tinies entered...that there could be two different sets of awards? One for tinies, one for those big enough to topstitch seams? :D (I'd say YoSD and above, myself.) I've got CLines, LTF and Pukipuki sizes and the options for details are dramatically different between Wiishu and Pook. I'm thinking that it's possibly intimidating to the tiny folk Moms and Dads to enter because they see the detail in the larger outfits and think they can't compete. I'd think it would also make judging easier. Obviously, we'd have to get enough entries to warrant, but maybe if they knew it was an option...?

    23. I have a question concerning Leather as a material. I tried to read the posts in the Steampunk Challenge link, but I do not have access to it. (I don't know why, 'caus I read the candy, arabian night and many other challenges as well). I would like to know if someone used leather in their costume.

I want to know how the 25$ rule for the costume purchases applies to leather. Dolls are much smaller than human, but the tiny portion of leather used in a doll's costume can be quite expensive compared to fabric.

For exemple, in the future, if the theme was Japan-Heian period, and someone was crazy enough to do a samurai leather armor (yeah, I know, that might bust both budget and/or time limits), how would it work ? Would it be ok to finish the project anyway and post photos, just for the pleasure of sharing ? (even though we would be disqualified for sure). Are disqualified contestants allowed to post their costumes ?

    24. Recycled purses! I used an old purse in Vanye's outfit. It would be maybe $1 at a garage sale (if it sold. It was pretty beat up). Biggest expense on his outfit by far was the lace but since it's purchased by the inch...and he's REALLY small compared to MSD and larger... it actually stayed under budget. The bigger dolls are easier to sew for, but he and Wiishu are cheaper! :D

(BTW...LOVE LOVE LOVE the notion of Japan-Heian period challenge! Not to mention Korean historical?...hint hint, judges! :D)

    25. I re-read my post and I am sorry, it is confusing, lol. I meant leather like vegetable tanned cowhide tooling leather. I am a leather carver and I like to carve design unto the leather pieces, although it would be my first time on a doll scale. But when I think about it, I could carve only the chest piece and the helmet. For the rest, yes, I could use some already dyed leather, which is much cheaper.

Vindalootoo, could you post an image of the costume you mentioned ? Or Pm me if you prefer. Purse leather is very soft, I am curious of your creation.

      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...roject-Runway-Welcome-to-Camelot-Challenge-18

His boots, hat and scabbard are all made out of recycled purse leather. Granted he's only ChicLine size (39cm) but I think there was plenty body in it to go for a larger size.

What you're talking about sounds positively luscious! :D Even if you don't do it for PR, I hope you do it and post lots of in-progress pics in the "project" section!

    27. Meansanity ~ The $25 limit is an effort to keep designers on equal footing. Some people can afford to spend a lot of money on fabric and supplies and other's can't. Some people use fabrics/supplies that they already have. The rule of thumb is, if you do this, is to estimate how much the fabric, or leather in your case, would cost. As an example if you already have a yard of fabric that cost $6 and you only used 1/2 yard for your costume, the price would be $3. If you're using leather that you already have estimate how much the piece you are using would cost. We don't ask for an accounting of what you spend. We trust people to be honest. You can't post any pics in the challenges unless you enter. It is a contest and that is a rule. If you want to post pics of an outfit without entering Project Runway you can post them in the Gallery. We do hope that you will decide to join us in future challenges!

    28. Thank you both for your response.

Elfmoon, I will definitely take the 25$ limit seriously. Making costumes at a doll's scale will be a totally new challenge for me. Also, I just realized that, since dolls are smaller, I could buy tooling leather leftover scraps. Some are 10-15 $ a piece and should be sufficient. Gives me an excuse to go shopping :)

Vindalootoo : I saw your musqueteer outfit, but I assumed the hat and shoes were purchased (they look great !). And I thought the scabbard was made of fabric, dumb me (lol).
I purchased a MSD size doll precisely to be able to sew and carve leather corsets, which are thick and hard to design in very tiny scale. We'll see if I can make it work out.

So, until my doll arrive, I will keep an eye on these Challenge masterpieces all of you are making. I am starting to think I should have bought a male doll for combat costumes, oh well...

    34. Really? Wow. Cool! Hmmm...I wonder if the judges thot that, too. Guess I should make it clearer next time. Nope...I made every stitch he's wearing, including wig. ;) Well...the stitching on the scabbard was the original stitching on the purse strap. Found a cool way to make patterns for boots...involving plumber's tape. Need to post a tute, I guess. Will, if I can repeat the process successfully.

    35. Something I've wondered from the start...Why are "tinies" defined differently here than everywhere else on DoA? I mean, there's a huge difference between sewing for a pukipuki and an LTF, but not that much more than between an LTF and a minifee: there are things I can't do for Wiishu because he's just that couple of cm too small. Even sewing for Vanye was much easier because I just had that much more room to maneuver. I'm sure the judges, in fairness, take into consideration size associated problems, but I'm still curious why you have a sub-category at all, if that's the case.

Not complaining, mind you! There's a reason why I haven't competed with the pookster and why I always look forward to Mooki's entry, but I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in wondering, and with more YoSD sizes in the current competition, I thot I'd go ahead and ask.

    40. Vandalootoo ~ Cute idea! A modern version is totally acceptable. The guitar could be the modern day version of the lyre, which is one of his symbols, since they're both stringed instruments. However I'm not sure what the judges opinion of that would be. They might be more inclined to favor a lyre, but that's not his only symbol. The interpretation of the theme can span all time lines, distant past to modern day. Just a reminder ~ your design drawing should be posted in the game thread, since it pertains to the current challenge. The discussion thread is for general questions and comments. Thanks!

    41. Oops. Sorry. I don't really plan to use it, so I just didn't think.... One of the former messages commented on a contemporary interpretation, so I posted for giggles. The guitar was intended to be exactly that. I'll do this eventually just because it's too cute not to, but we have a more "traditional" look planned for the competition. Sort of. Well...it's Wiishu. As Apollo. How "traditional" can it be? :D

    53. Considering the current challenge, I had a thought that I thought I'd throw out there for consideration. PR tends to rouse images of the twenty-something New York Runway female marketing niche. When I began looking at PR, back when I first joined DoA, I hesitated to get into it because it did appear biased toward the larger, female dolls, for which detail is so much easier to achieve, and which fit into that same niche. It took me a long time (and Mookie!) to convince myself to give it a try, and Wiishu has found great acceptance, for which I'm extremely grateful, but which, I admit, surprised me just a little. I'm wondering if others have been similarly discouraged from joining in. I'm wondering about making a logo challenge that's maybe a year long challenge, that emphasizes diversity. Three outfits, Three different sized dolls, three distinct themes, either self-chosen or panel-chosen, posed together creatively to fit a logo-sized image. Most of us have (or as in my case have access to) various sized dolls to work with. The problem, of course, is that someone(s) might choose to do nothing but that challenge, spend all year on the three outfits and have predictably slammin' results which no one who participates in the monthlies could match, but I just thought I'd suggest it.

    54. We are extremely grateful to have your impute! We've always encouraged members, including non designers, to voice their opinions and concerns in this thread. Our goal is to create a game that's enjoyable for everyone. Impute helps us to work toward that goal.

Several years ago I took over the Project Runway game which had had a short life span. Together with another DOA member we tried to revive it and I think we've had some measure of success. The game is based on the TV series, which works perfectly for humans, but not so perfectly for dolls.

We've included all sizes of dolls, although the smaller the doll the harder it is to sew for, and it's true that designers are sometimes unable to achieve the same level of details in their outfits. We include an extra point as a way to compensate for this. The judges also take that fact into consideration when awarding points.

We try to choose themes that will include both male and female dolls, although it's not always a good fit. In the current logo challenge we tried to broaden the scope and get away from the image that you rightly perceived. We hoped to give more dolls an opportunity to participate.

Basically we need help to make the game accessible to all designers. We encourage all members to offer suggestions as to how to make the game better and how to meet the needs of our designers. All suggestions will be taken into consideration and those that work towards that goal will be implemented.

Please help us to help you!

    55. As for the suggestion that we feature three different sizes of dolls on a shared logo, I think it's a terrific idea, and I will confer with the judges to get their opinion.

My thoughts are that at the end of this year when the next logo challenge is due, we will ask each designer to enter up to three dolls of different sizes and the judges will choose one outfit from the three different size groups and those dolls will appear together on the same logo. It's possible that three different designers will win first place. As to the theme of the challenge, we will determine that later.

    56. I spoke with the judges and it is agreed that next year the logo will include three sizes of dolls. We couldn't change it for this year because the challenge was already posted.

Also if any one would like to suggest themes please post them in this thread. If the idea can be successfully translated to dolls we will use it.

      Thanks!
