Project Runway Chat Thread

Welcome everyone!

This thread was created as an experiment during the Marvelous Mardri Gras challenge and was on a trial basis. It has since proven successful so we're keeping it open and active.

If you have questions about a current game, please post them in the applicable challenge thread. This thread is for discussing designs, fabrics, sharing sewing techniques, commenting on contestants costumes, encouraging designers and relaying the 'trails and tribulations' you experience while preparing your costumes.

Please post sketches of your designs, photos of your costumes as they're being made, photos of your fabrics, trims, etc in the challenge thread to which they pertain.

If you have any questions about what can be posted in this thread, ask them here.

All DOA members are encouraged to participate! This thread is not just for contestants. Any 'lurkers' who are following the game, please feel free to post away!

We want to keep this thread positive and a fun experience for everyone!

Maybe you'll be able to enter our next challenge!

We're hoping that everyone is enjoying Mardi Gras challenge! This is the closest I'll ever get to being able to celebrate it! lol!

From the costumes we've seen so far, it looks like our designers have gone all out to capture the spirit of the carnival. We can't wait to see all the wonderful completed costumes!

 

Pleae keep in mind while purchasing fabrics, trims, etc that you must use green, gold or purple!

 

Oh, no! That's a set back! Your mask must be made out of some kind of clay?

You should be able to find coins in any craft store. Is there one near you? You can also recycle coins from old jewerly if you have something suitable.

Don't forget the 48 hour extension should you need it.

I agree! I think this is the most fun challenge we've had so far!

 

I've never used clay or tried to sculpt anything, so I don't have any advise to offer. I sincerely hope that your mask doesn't break and that you're able to decorate it the way you want to!

We have 12 entries ~ just enough to put together a calendar! Provided no one drops out. Wouldn't that be fun!

The winners of this challenge will be posted on May 14th. Shortly after that information concerning the next challenge will be posted in a new thread. Contestants will have until June 1st to join, at which time the challenge will begin. It will end on June 31st.

We are looking for someone to join the Project Runway Management team!

Your duties would include collaborating with us on creating and planning challenge themes, contributing your ideas and opinions on all aspects of the games, drafting challenges for posting if needed and standing in as a judge when necessary.

We are looking for a creative, imaginative person perferably with a design background.

This position takes dedication, several days a month and good communication. If you have time to devote to the game, a willingness to become a team member and it sounds like fun, please PM me!

 

Please take note that the extension ends tonight (May 2nd) at midnight PST. At 12:01 am the date changes to May 3rd.

 

Thanks to all our designers for their exceptional work on this months challenge! The judges are going to have a hard time with one! LOL!

Hello everyone ~

As you probably already know, Adarhysenthe has left the Project Runway team due to time restraints.

I want to thank her for joining me in reviving the game and for her months of hard work and dedication. She will be missed!

I would also like to introduce my two new co-mangers, RRoss and Dreadfulme. Welcome to the team!

Our goal is to keep providing interesting and fun challenges that will give contestants the chance to use their imagination, creativity, and design skills.

20 dolls! My God, woman (assumption), you are so lucky! LOL! I'm sure one of them would feel at home on another planet, or has a little alien blood?

 

To answer your question about tinies ~ I thought we had posted it somewhere, but maybe we just thought we did! You get one extra point for entering a tiny because of the difficulty of sewing for dolls that small. The question of what consitutes a tiny came up. Some people recognize a size group called 'petities' and some don't. A petite would be from 6 to 12 inches. Any doll taller would be a mini and any doll smaller would be a tiny. We decided to recognize petities because sewing for a 6 to 12 inch doll is not that difficult, but any doll smaller is. If we forgot to include the fact that an extra point is awarded, we apolegize!

Offically the games start on the 1st but I'm sure people start planning their designs, at least in their heads, as soon as they know what the challenge is. We know that time is of the essence for most people and we want to be as fair as we can, so we don't 'police' the games. If you buy your fabrics before the game starts, we don't ask!

No, there's not a separate thread. The winners of each challenge are posted in the game thread.

If you do a 'search' under Project Runway you'll get a list, in order, of the games, so it's not hard to find them.

 

That's what happens when you're a creative person! Besides, you know you can't not enter! LOL!

 

They've got 8 to choose from! You can even create the perfect world if you want! I always wanted to live in a domed city where the weather is controlled. No snow, no unbearable heat and you'd get a 'rain' schedule for the year so you could plan for it! lol!

 

Really? That's not how they did it the Star Trek movie? (The Search For Spock) If they were under a dome, I missed it! LOL! Of course, that's entirely possible. When you're as old as I am you sometimes don't pick up on things!

You don't have to live under a dome if you don't want to and no, you don't have to explain how it was done. We wouldn't do that to you! We'll just assume you can live out in the open on any of the planets.

 

No, Search For Spock was back in 1984.

I think you live under a dome if you can't terra form a planet, then you have to live in a controlled environment. Let's phone Lenard Nemoy and ask him! LOL!
