    2. I thought I'd share this link for Distinctive Fabrics in case some of you are unaware of it.

If you sign up on their website (totally free with no obligation to ever buy anything) you can get 5 fur swatches for free. The fur is very nice quality, the swatches are decent sized and there are lots of choices.
      The shipping is free.

The swatches are big enough to use for doll clothing and one swatch will make a wig for a tiny, two for a mini.

After the 5 free swatches they charge $1.00 per swatch and the shipping is always free.

I hope this information will be useful for anyone looking for small pieces of fur.

    8. Initially I entered my male doll, Hatter, in the new glamour and glitz challenge. But I've had to make a sudden switch to one of my girls instead, owing to a couple of quite major emergencies!:o Don't worry, these are happy emergencies.:) Emergency number 1 is that I just paid off my new Dollzone Anson and she is due home...like...tomorrow! I seriously doubt I'll be able to concentrate on anything else after her arrival because I'll be so obsessivly creative with her over the next several weeks. And emergency number 2 is that I just scored some awesome fabrics and trims for her on ebay that sent my creative juices soaring! I'm sorry my dear Hatter, but my creativity must flow where my heart goes! (He politely stepped aside when I promised him I would enter him in the next challenge.);)

    10. We were hoping to host this hame in Jan, but the threads from earlier games have been deleted. I had a record of all the games on my old computer, but it died.

We'll be hosting the Members Choice Award game in Jan of 2013. I've started a record of 2012 challenges in the PR main thread so they won't be deleted.

The first place winners of 2012 will be posted and all members of DOA will get to vote for their favorite costume. There will be only one winner. That designer will have their glamour photo posted with a trophy cup instead of a blue ribbon.

We hope it will be a fun way to get all DOA members involved in the game. I'm sure everyone who follows the challenges have their favorites and this will give them a chance to have their vote counted instead of the winner being chosen by our judges!

    11. Poeticsould has chosen to change her model doll from a previous doll to a new doll that has just arrived.

This is perfectly acceptable since the challenge has not begun yet.

After the challenges begin, designers are not allowed to switch dolls.

    13. I'm in the same boat as you, auntbear.:) I was looking for something very specific so I went shopping on ebay for supplies. I still have one more fabric to get, but I wanted to wait for the main piece I ordered to arrive first so I can traipse around the fabric store with it in hand before making my final fabric choice.

    16. Does it have to be a suit? I know we have to make a vest but does it have to be a 'traditional' male suit?

      • Funny

      • Creative
    17. Yes. The rules state that it must be a suit of the kind worn at a formal function. That would be a jacket, pants, shirt and vest. The suit does not have to be a tux, but it must be formal. It also must include two accessories.

    18. I'm going to amend my last post in the hopes of making it clearer.

The question is whether the men's suit has to be 'traditional'. It should consist of a jacket/coat, pants, shirt and vest, plus one accessory.

We don't want to curb our designers creativity so the jacket/coat can be long or short, have tails or no tails, have a lapel or no lapel. The shirt can be plain or ruffled, have a collar or no collar, etc. The requirement is that it be of the type worn at a formal function.

      Hope this helps!

    24. i started drafting my dress today. took all afternoon to get the bodice just right. i'm not sure how i want to finish the back though. i could do a simple zipper but would really like to try to do more of a corset style using the 'eyes" from hook and eyes. does anyone know where i can get a bunch of tiny ones? (they have to be willing to ship to canada)

      thanks

Please remember that if you're unable to complete the challenge, to post your intention to withdraw in the game thread before the challenge is over. It's very naughty to just disappear without a word and we know that none of you are naughty! LOL!

    27. You could use scrap book eyelets from the craft store. And use super skinny zip ties for the boning in the corsets. They should be easy to find and you may not need to have order offline. I've used regular hook and eyes for a bodice before. just used the eye part and laced them up. This was before I found out about scrapbooking eyelets. :) Not sure if it's what you were looking for. ^^ ;

    28. thanks, for the suggestion. i really wanted the eye part from a hook and eye. but it looks like i've found a source. the fabric i'm planning to use wouldn't hold an eyelet very well and i want to have the lining under the closure to prevent scratches.

    29. Here's an eyelet tip!

If you've ever used them you know that they don't work well with thin fabrics. They tend to just pull out. If you use washers, which are made for eyelets and come if different sizes, that solves the problem. The eyelet will be secure and stay in place.

    30. I had a question regarding the men's suits as well. Would I be able to make a dress kilt and a formal fly plaid for him or is the outfit strictly pants, jacket, vest etc.? I'm good either way; just wondering if I can dress up my boy in his ancestoral attire but super dress it up.

    47. Usually the next contest doesn't start until a month after the last one closed. So after the February challenge ends, the next one would be for the month of April and be announced in mid-March (around the time the February winners are announced) with two weeks for sign-ups. I wonder if it's an error or if they're trying to shift to monthly contests rather than bi-monthly.

    54. We are using this website as the basis for fairy tales. If your character/fable is listed you can enter them.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fairy_tales

If you have a character in mind, but you're not sure of the title of the tale, click on the title and you will get a short synopsis of the story line.

    56. Yes. Fairy tales tend to have different versions, so it dosen't matter if the character is an ugly human or a troll. Is that what you mean?

We just need to see the costume you're basing your design on. We don't care what the character looks like.

If, in the future, I screw up the dates of a challenge, please don't panic! Just PM me and I'll fix it. I'm so sorry I cause everyone worry, but on the other hand, I'm glad everyone takes the time to read the entire posts! lol!
