    1. Here is my update, i started again and so far so good. One thing i have not done is sew for my selected model before... LONGGGG legs heehee. All in all i think i am liking where i am headed with some new and reclaimed fabrics. i def should have entered this comp sooner, i am learning alot!

    2. Wow, day off =progress. I actualy finished, except for some hems. My colors turned out to be orange, blue, gray and black, and I think my look could be called 'Graveyard Bohemian' lol. I think it was a little tough making a soft style look okay on a boy, but I''m happy with it. I'll probably have my entry up in a few days.

@pinkbox- I had a chronic issue with making pants to short for the better part of a year before I got it right. I like entering these sorts of things for the learning too. I've never made a shirt like the one I'm entering, but I've always wanted to.

    3. got my concept and idea (mostly) now just to find the time to get it started...and hunt through my gazillion totes of fabrics to find the perfect ones. can't wait to start seeing some finished costumes graveyard bohemian sounds cool. I'm going for something bold but that my doll will be able to wear later. She needs more clothes.

    4. Graveyard Bohemian sounds so cool! I can't wait to see it. And I must say I just love the comments in this thread...the comraderie between designers here is a very special experience indeed.:)

I have my basic piece of fabric chosen...and sadly, that's about as far as I've gotten.:...( This challenge is very complicated for me because while I have a model, she's just that. This outfit is actually being designed for a doll that is on order, but won't arrive in time for this challenge. My model is close enough in size if I'm really careful about it, but the issue is with the on-ordered doll's character. So far, she's changed characters on me 3 times over the past few weeks:doh and of course this affects style and color...not to mention the time I've spent redoing her display space over and over. This has been a real dollemma for me, but I've finally figured it out and settled firmly on her character. Hopefully, I'll be able to finish tweaking the final redo on her display today and draw my colors from that. (The fabric I have has multiple shades, so I needed to firmly decide what type of Bohemian she was before I could choose which section to cut from.);)

    5. It's wonderful hear about everyone's plans and experiences!

I had to 'argue' a little bit to get this thread approved, and I'm glad I was persistant because I think it has enriched the game for everyone.

We are not allowed to discuss design concepts or make comments about personal experiences in the challenge threads, so this thread gives us a place to express ourselves.

I'm glad a comraderie has developed and that new designers are welcomed in and feel comfortable in joining the conversations!

Thanks everyone for sharing and making each other feel 'at home' here!

@PoeticSoul- could this be for Tombstone Rose? I read some of the Anson&Moment thread, and I remembered your post about her. It's a really creative character concept, and I'll keep an eye out to see what you do with her.
Oh, and if it's not, please don't mind my creepy ways. I didn't plan to stalk you or anything, it was entirely accidental. :sweat

    7. You're so funny, ukelala! Yes it is actually for the DZ Anson I'm getting who is called Tombstone Rose. At first I envisioned a Victorian dried flower...then a sugar skull concept (until an awful nightmare put me completely off that idea):sweat Eventually, another character shift happened and she became the ultimate flower child of the 1960's. (There will still be a darker edge to her character however because her backstory deals with the death of music legends of that era.);) Anson is so unusual with her petal limbs, I'm going to have to come up with some unique ways of fastening the garments to fit both her and my model, which won't be easy. But it will be worth it to create something unique and fun for this competition that she can wear once she arrives home.:)

    8. I had never heard of the Anson doll, so I went to the DZ website. She's quite unique and beautiful! What kind of faceup are you planning?

I have their little flower fairy coming, I hope in time for Christmas.

If you can figure out how to make clothes for her, then you truly are a designer! lol!

    9. Glad to read about everyone's progress :) It makes me inspired to do my work too hahaha

PoeticSoul, I understand your character dilemma completely. I had to tweak my design because my boy "insisted" it wasn't up to his standards. Seriously, every time I was trying things on him, his head would snap or tilt a certain way and it looked like he was saying, "Really? Are you seriously going to put that on me?" :sweat

I am having a hard time learning how to sew stretch fabrics and 'gathered' fabric. I never did this before but really need it for the outfit *sigh*...

elfmoon, I didn't even know you were fighting a good battle for us!! Thank you :chocoheart

    10. I plan to just go crazy on her!:) I've always admired those dolls on this forum with gorgeous body tattoos...there's certainly some in the Gallery and Gallery+ that take my breath away. And I always wanted to try something like that...but (big but!) I couldn't bear to do it if I was just going to cover it with clothes. So I was torn between wanting to do the artwork as part of the faceup and wanting to have fun making the clothes for the doll to wear. When I saw Anson, I saw the perfect opportunity to do the tattoo artwork on the petals and still be able to dress her however I liked. Those big petals are like big blank canvases giving me the freedom to do whatever I want! I haven't decided exactly what I'll do yet, but I have some flower child related ideas floating around in my brain and I still like the dried flower angle too. I really think it's something that will be designed on the fly and develop on it's own as I do it.

    12. I can't remember which challenge it was, but the Mods went in and deleted all the comments. It was to 'clear up the clutter'. I didn't realized at the time that we couldn't post comments in game threads.

I contacted them and said that we really needed a thread where we could discuss the game and exchange ideas and experiences. It took some convincing, but they agreed to this thread on a trial basis. I guess they monitored it for awhile, but I never heard from them, so I guess the trial is over! lol!

It wasen't easy bringing the game back to life, but I love doing it, and I hope to keep it going for as long as everyone supports and wants it.

    13. So I'm pretty sure I want to try something with crochet. I've really only done simple amigurumi before, but I got a ball of that unbelievably soft rayon crochet thread, that I think will look work up nice for doll-scale.

And then I think I'm going to recycle some fabric from a skirt I picked up at the thrift store. I *think* it should count for having in-scale print. It has a lovely little printed border at bottom that I definitely want to incorporate. Re-using existing hems from recycled fabric isn't a problem, right?

PoeticSoul: ooh your Anson sounds like she will be awesome. And quite a challenge to design something to fit her o.o especially with her not in your hands yet.

    16. I have...finally!:sweat I had to figure out what my incoming girl wanted to be first, then work out measurements, and find a color-section of my fabric that would go with my "planned" faceup and newly completed setting. And somehow make it all work with my Milagro as the stand-in model since my girl won't arrive home until after the new year. I made this hard on myself it seems...but I'm ready to start sewing first thing in the morning.:)

    17. I thought I was done, but I actually found the fabric that inspired my idea in the first place. ( I immediately lost said fabric the day after I settled on my design.) I'm trying to work in a piece, but I may just leave it out in the end. Either way, I plan on having my entry up by week's end.

I'm so excited to see everyone else's designs!

For me, this is the first outfit I made exclusively for Ko's character. He's actually been wearing man-skirts since his character was shelled, but he got a bigger body, and now he's too fat for all his clothes. >__<

    30. Lol, OT, but Ko actually took one for the team, getting a new body. I bought it for an AnotherSecret head, and those are tiny, so when it showed up, I was all 'oh, no! it's huge.....' but luckily Ko's old body fit the AnS head, and his giant melon looked great on the new bigger body. If anything, I owe him more clothing for having to become a hybrid so one of his brothers could be a real boy, too. XD I guess I'll have to enter more challenges.

    32. Awesome that more entries are coming in! I can't wait to see them all.:) flpinkboxsociety, your girl is so pretty in her new outfit. You must be very pleased with how it turned out...she's so lovely in it. And ukelala, I love your unusual boy's style...it looks amazing on him and seems to fit his character so well. You know, I looked at it and could just "see" him strolling down 4th avenue here in Tucson. It's a quirky little shopping area near the university that's been around forever and is known for its rather eclectic, bohemian nature. And of course, being so close to the border with Mexico, the day of the dead stuff is very big here. You see fabulous day of the dead sculptures all up and down forth avenue...so if your boy and my girl were human size, they could walk down the street, hand in hand, with their faceups and dressed exactly as they are and not even raise a single eyebrow. What a fun thought...golly, I just love these challenges! You just never know what people will come up with. It's like a complete exploration of style...so exciting!!!

    33. Last minute changes, ahoy! I wanted to make an empress-waisted minidress but after sewing the skirt part I found that it looks baggy and strange on Brigh's supergem-sway-back, but fits perfectly on her hips and butt! Sooo... I think I'm going to go with it, and make it a separate skirt and top.

I can't wait to look at everyone's entries in more detail, trying to focus on getting mine done first :sweat but what I've seen so far looks awesome.

    35. My entry's in!

I sort of went crochet-crazy and just turned it into a theme. The shawl is crochet of course, and so is the top, the skirt has crochet edging on the waistband to match the top, and even the necklace is done with crochet (with upholstery thread!). The only thing without any crochet is the bracelet, which is just beads on a stretch cord.

I learned so much! :D I've never done any shaping with crochet before (beyond really basic amigurumi), but managed to make up the top pattern as I went along, just through trial and error to see where it needed to decrease or increase to try to fit her body. Though I did look at a lot of photos of crocheted bikini tops to figure out how the basic cup shape is constructed. I wound up using mine at a different angle though. Having the triangle straight up and down just did not fit right over non-squishy resin like it would over a person. If Brigh were flatter-chested maybe.

    43. It's a shame that the old threads were purged. I enjoyed going back and looking at all the creative interpretations of the themes. I wonder if the mods will let us set up a single gallery thread where we could post at least the glamour shots of each entry? That way even after each challenge is over and the thread is purged, the entries will still be available to amaze and inspire, but they'll all be contained in one place. For previously purged games, I know I have my old entry pics saved and I suspect many other designers do as well.

    53. I entered again! I had fun with the last one and it seems like the deadline and specific goal help me actually *finish* things. :sweat

Her Majesty says that *obviously* she should be the doll I use for this contest. And that apparently I "owe her sewing", which is a little silly considering that she has a huge pretty fluffy dress that fits her perfectly from DoD, and Cassius only has a single pair of pants that are too long in the crotch, still unhemmed, and that he is sewn into because I never finished putting in snaps, but who can argue with the queen? (Also I'm pretty sure my work schedule is not going to allow me the time to draft a whole 3-piece suit pattern for Cass in a month when I still can't even get his pants fit right, but I can probably manage a fancy gown. *sigh* *shakes fist at pants*)

    55. reading a few posts back about purging of the older challenges... what if we use just one thread for challenges and one for chat? in the challenge thread use the #1 slot for the banner and rules. our entries, finished looks, and progress pictures will be like they are now, except then when one challenge ends, announce the new challenge with explanation in the next available slot, keeping it in the same thread? that might help in what i am guessing is a hassle to start a new thread for each challenge and finding and adding new links each time. then all the winner's pictures, our entry photos and progress pictures will be in one thread. and then our chat thread will stay as is? just suggesting... :hushes::eusa_sile

    56. The problem with that is that the Mods have to approve each game before it gets posted. I write them up and post them, then they automatically go to some kind of 'holding' place where a Mod checks it over. If the game is approved it gets posted, so multiple games can't be in the same thread.

I'm keeping a record of each game along with the winning photo so that at the end of 2012 we can host the 'members choice' game.

Thanks for the suggestion though, it is perfectly logical and would be much easier! lol!
