I was into "Dune" movie a lot, when I was younger. Star Wars, Terminator, Predator, stuff like that. Blame it on my dad and his movie collection...

 

I didn't read the books I think I got spoiled by the movies lol

I have an idea of a Mars that's only partially successfully terraformed. It has breathable air, but is still very desert like.

 

SkyFire - I'm thinking I'll be using Mars too.... but will be set a looooooong time after the terraforming. Love me some dystopian futures....

 

I have a vague idea...tossing around some occupations for my doll...that will determine the clothing style, colors that I use. Just hoping I have plenty of time to pull this off before the deadline.

 

Atomic_kitteh Mars has such a nifty color pallet. And dystopian futures are fun.

I'm kinda being influenced by "Dune" the movie with Kyle Mclaclan(sp?), and maybe desert dwelling peoples here on earth.

 

I thought about using Mars, but I think some of the outer planets will be a bit more interesting to use. I'm thinking about using Pluto and I might incorporate some Greek mythology into the way of life as well.

I'm gonna do Uranus, since that's my favorite Sailor Scout from Sailor Moon. XD

Since Uranus is composed mainly of rock and various ices, and has bands of clouds that blow around rapidly, I'm thinking an outfit that's warm and shielding from the elements. :3

I, or rather my doll, will be inhabiting Saturn. I feel it's the most flamboyant of all the planets and I am drawn to it LOL
The biggest challenge for me will be to a) shorten my planet summary to under 500 words (I'm a total nerd) and b) make the outfit the way I want it to look like in time.

Yayy another Uranus it has always been one of my favorite planets.

Sephydoll--I'm still working it out. But now I have to convince one of my other dolls that he doesn't need a still suit.....or blue on blue eyes.

 

hehe... my mind went straight to the sailor scouts too, thinking about Jupiter because she is my favorite. no solid ideas yet...

I've changed my mind couple times about his living condition,
but the latest was inspired by my dream.
And i did couple sketches for different type of industries they've been doing.

Well, my sketch/draft outfit looks a bit nomad-like in the color theme blue, yellow, and black. XD
Nothing too over the top, though, cause I want the outfit parts to be able to be worn as "normal" clothes by my boys. Aaaand it might be done entirely in fleece... fits Uranus' climate though.

 

I'll be using Pluto because I believe in doing everything I can to showcase Pluto as a planet. I reject the dwarf planet designation - there are 9 planets in the solar system. I have a plan for making Pluto a very hot, dry planet contending with very low-tech capabilities. I've got the majority of my design set and have most of my fabrics but I won't be able to get started until I get back from my business trip next week. My design has some loose Eastern elements and like some other designers, a sort of nomadic/bedouin feel, but it's unlikely to push any boundaries, since I also want to keep the individual pieces wearable in the "real world". I like the design and the fabrics and really hope I can execute it well.

so... my idea is 'magnetic flight'. my design is going to be for everyday clothing, but Jupi... tarians (?!) need specialty clothes for Jupiter's atmosphere. the webpage said the atmosphere of Jupiter is electo-magnetic, high velocity winds, gas planet. so my idea was that people would more 'fly' around than walk, there would be magnets in the clothing that would switch polarity to change your direction of movement by reacting with the planet and some kind of 'wings' on the clothes to kinda help steer you around.

that's the idea... gonna be making sketches and working out what my outfit is going to look like. probably post a sketch when i get this thought through. heh..

 

That sounds like it would really be neat. Looking forward to seeing some of these ideas

 

Uranus is made up of mostly ice and rocks, so yes, my outfit will be a super-warm one for the cold and wind. XD

 

Elfmoon, all you gals, this is great fun. My aplogies, I won't be able to be in this challenge, my move to Florida was sailing along smoothly, hit a bump in the road of life & have to wait to work that out before I am in gear again.
Unpacking another shipping container & I found some of my bjd fashion sketches from 3 years ago.

 

thegashlycrumb, hopefully you remember, made some shoes for one of the challenges and you said you would like some better pictures, sorry it took me so long :kept forgetting to post them:

guess this is an ok place to post them... ? anyways... sculpted them with clay onto her feet, made a mold, then cast them with resin. was hoping they would come out clear, but they are clouded. didnt have time for the challenge, but i plan on lining them and attaching some straps. for the challenge i just laced them on with ribbon.

they look icy...very cool indeed I have no idea how to make molds. Everyones ideas sound great so far. And well I may drop out as well because my girl is not coming along very well. I can't seem to come up with an idea. Maybe I'll look through some old sketches tonight and see what happens.

 

yep was just reading over it a tad, but some of it just doesn't make much sense to me being a non science person..lol..that was one of my least favorite subjects in school. I'll have to pick my boyfriends brain a bit when I get home from work...he is a total geek like that..lol

uh oh. I had a plan in my head for my planet and doll, but I have seen similar ideas here on the thread. I am choosing the planet Venus, so at least that part is unique so far.

 

namaro, I have similar problem; I am afraid that by reading other's ideas I won't be able to come up with my own without being influenced... I'll probably stop coming here for a bit, at least until I have my design all set

 

I have basic ideas when i entered this challenge.
Now, I'm trying to develop them in more details.
But every time i saw different kind of fabrics,
my ideas of the living condition or main industry have changed,
which affect my design also.
And lately, I've been busy with my new job, kind of neglecting the project little bit.
Hopefully, this weekend i got the chance to do that.
And on Monday, my sis and i plan to go to this market
that sells so many crafty stuff, going to re-stock my supplies^^
Let's hope i won't change the whole design again after came back from that place.

Oh, and i'm using these templates to help me with the design,
make sure i didn't forget the details...

I do remember. Thanks for posting a better picture of them. I thought they looked really cool before, but with the whitish cloudy resin, they got a little lost in the background. I love the shape on them and the cloudiness, almost like they're made of ice. I'm extra super impressed with all the steps involved in making them. Thanks so much for sharing!

 

I've gotten my planet decided on and most of my fabric picked out an bought. I've started sewing a few things, but I may have to remake my pants or edit my design.

 

Just need to make the shirt and I'll be done. Gotta finish since I won't be here the end of June...

Well, I finishded blushing/faceup on my model and have a planet in mind now to just iron out the details and start sewing

Sounds like we have lots of ideas brewing so hopefully this challenge will produce some fantastic outfits.

 

I can't seem to find it again but I thought I read for the last contest that the outfit you make has to be removeable like clothing and not something that is "made onto" to the doll. Since paper doilies are rather fragile, can we make something that is glued together while on the doll, left on the doll for the contest and would probably be ruined in the process of trying to take it off?

 

I think some non sewing challenges would be fun. I've never really seen the fashion design competitions on Tv but I'm pretty sure they put challenges in there where designers have to make an outfit from something strange or different.

I would love to enter this round, but can I enter two dolls in one entry? Kind of like a matching couple? And would they need to be the same sculpt/size?
