Indeed!! ^^ Thank you~ Sewing by hand takes SOOOOO LONG. D: I hate it. lol But I tend to trust my hand more than a sewing machine. ^^;; I have a new sewing machine now and I used it the other night to make a hoodie, which I shall post pictures of when I get off work this evening. But using a sewing machine is harder work for me than sewing by hand. :/ I feel like I have much more control over sewing by hand. A lot of the time (perhaps I'm just doing it all wrong) the sewing machine goes crazy and the strings get tangled up on my fabric and it's a total bi*ch to rip all of the strings. :/ So, in any case, I'm practicing with the sewing machine to try and get better. ^_^ Sorry for that rambling. lol Glad you like my clothes!
New striped, furry sort of hoodie thing!! I made this the other night and I actually used my sewing machine! \o/ Yaaayz! I used James' hoodie pullover pattern and my boyfriend helped me scale it down using photoshop. I sewed all the pieces together with the sewing machine except for the pocket and all the lining around the hood/pockets. I sewed those by hand. I used a little kid's hoodie I found at a thrift store for the fabric. :3 I really like it. Sort of like a towel. I took the lining off the hood of the hoodie. X3 I love reusing lining. One of my few complaints is that the lining at the neck is overlapped and it sticks up a bit. Not sure if I'll try to correct it. Perhaps if it bothers me enough. *shrug* From the side: Back: Another major problem: XD The hood is WAY too short or something.. Even though we sized it down equally, it just didn't work when it came to the hood.. Next time I make a hoodie, I'll have to edit the hood part of the pattern to make it bigger/longer. Until then, Sparrow just won't be able to go out in the rain. lol... She looks like a Cosmonaut here.. Yep, stupid. Oh well. It looks fine as long as the hood is down, and she likes it anyway. XD Live and learn. Thanks for looking! \o/
Yea, every hoodie I made, the hood didn't fit when it was up. And when you make the hood bigger to get it to fit, it's sooo huge and doesn't look right when it's not up.
D: That sucks so bad. Maybe I'll just not make any more hoodies. lol Maybe that's an article of clothing I'll just have to buy. :/ Ah well.
Dolls nearly always tend to have larger heads proportionally, even the most 'realistic' molds are somewhat stylized that way. Yes, it is annoying. I've tried hoods for historical clothing, and I pretty much have to make a hood to wear up, and a hood to wear down. mrrrrow? The hoodie looks great when the hood is down, and I don't find the binding at all distracting. Ann in CT
Hmmm... *taps chin* Well, it took several hours, but it wasn't that hard. Like I said, I used the sewing machine and that made it faster, but also, using the sewing machine for the first time was scary. X3 Overall? It wasn't that hard. It takes trial and error (hood being the error), but it's definitely worth trying. =D
Maybe I should try one. But it looks like it'd be hard! And I totally don't have that much patience ^^; Plus, my Mom's machine ((the one I use)) is in desperate need of a tune up. To the point that if I zigzag stitch the needle bends and breaks every time without fail ((I just broke 4 needles the other night! I've only got one left! Yikies!)) Using machines for the first time is kinda scary, but it gets much better later :3 I definately prefer the machine over handstitching ((though I've also got a big lack there of concerning patience and even handstitching...))
Aw man. Maybe the machine just needs oiling? That could be it. But concerning hadnstitching, yeah, it can take a very long time. ;3 I'm a total perfectionist, so if I'm afraid I'll mess up with the sewing machine, or if it's very detailed/small work, then I'll always chose my reliable hands and a thread and needle anytime.
XD I'd hate to have to make an up and down hood. How annoying. In any case, thanks for the support! \o/
It needs more than that I think ^^; ((I hope it's only that though!)) The switch that moves the foot up and down doesn't work and I know a couple other things are having problems, my Mom discovered those, but I haven't yet. I'm too impatient for handstitching ^^; My onee-chan was a perfectionist, I learned a lot from her, especially concerning making beds without wrinkles... ... ... I can't believe you can handstitch so well! I mean, my handstitching always turns out sloppy, even when I'm in a really patient mood.
I really like the two-toned wig, totally adorable. I'm definetly inspired to order the swatches from the website, I was worried before what I'd do with random pieces that might not match and be too small... but it turns out it can be really cute. ^_^ Though I know they're the easiest things to make, your hats are probably my favourite things on here with the cute ears and all. ^_^;
Thank you~! ^^ I'm so glad you like the hats! And yeah, I totally agree with you. They're my favorite things that I've made. XD And sooo simple. Sparrow ALWAYS has a little hat on, until recently, when I bought her a new fur wig. X3 And definitely! You should buy those fur swatches, because you can make some cute stuff from them. X3 I would highly recommend anyone getting them because they're completely free, and even if you screw up, you didn't lose any money out of the deal. ~_^
Thank you~ ^^ I appreciate your comments quite a bit, considering how wonderful you are at making like, everything! XD
Aww so cute As for the hoodie,, I used the same pattern and scaled it down and the hood fits fine... *shrugs* maybe I just screwed up on it, lol.
Hmm, I see you have a DZ. Perhaps the Kid Delf heads are bigger than DZ heads? :/ Maybe that's why it fit? Not sure. X3 Either way, good job on getting it right. lol
Yarn wig!!! I made this wig before Sparrow got here, but it was WAY too big. I finally got around to editing it today and it finally fits (thanks to some trimming and some safety pins in the back X3;;;..)... So, I wanted it to look like those pvc dreadlocks people put in their hair, but Sparrow likes to call them "cheerlocks"! \=D/ Sorry for picspam. ^^; Thanks for looking! \o/
awwwww! Sparrow looks so cute! I wasn't really sure I liked the idea of a yarn wig... way too bulky, but you definitely used the bulk to your advantage. The "cheerlock" pigtails suit the yarn really well. Your stuff is all so adorable- Sparrow must be happy to have such a wardrobe!
@WindGuardKT: Thank you so much~! ^o^ My boyfriend wasn't sure about a yarn wig when I mentioned it to him, either. XD He called her "Raggedy Ann" today. I'm so glad you like my stuff, though! ^-^
Woah, that's really sweet looking! I origionally didn't like the idea of yarn wigs, but that is totally awesome!
I'd actually like a tutorial of how you made the yarn wig. The end result is very interesting looking!
@Nana: ^_^ Thanks! @Atsuhiko: I went to undead threads and used the furwig pattern she has (it was actually way too big, which is why I had to trim the wig down so much later). I just used regular fabric with the pattern to make a wig cap. I then cut all the yarn pieces to the length I wanted, and then hot glued them all to the wig cap. Voila! lol There's your tutorial. Extraordinarily ghetto. Since I've made that fur wig on the 3rd page or so, I have forumlated a much better wig pattern than the undead threads one, so next time I try to make a yarn wig (never lol) then I'm going to use that pattern instead, and hopefully it won't have to be held by safety pins. X3
Hmmmm. I think I might try it, then. It's nice to see people branch out, and this is definitely an interesting twist on dread wigs, etc. I'll probably use wires for my robot girl doll. Where'd you get the cute hair accessory? Or is that a charm?
heh, the undead threads patterns for msd are very strange. I used the short sleeve pattern on something- I had to cut over half an inch from the sides and the bottom, and still had room for a very, very generous seam allowance. Oddly enough, the curved part fit fine. how much did you have to shrink the wig cap?
@Atsuhiko: Ahh, wires, eh? That could be cool. I'm interested in seeing that. I got that arrow clip (not a charm) from.... Big Lots, I think? lol Which is a low-class Wal*Mart, if you have them near you. A closeout store. @WindGuardKT: I didn't get to shrink it. I made the whole wig before Sparrow even got here, so after I tried it on her, that's when I realized it was too big. I ended up just cutting and cutting gradually until it fit, and even then, it has to stay pinned with safety pins. :/ Look back to where I made that purple/blue fur wig for a link to a much better pattern. But that one is SD. I had to shrink that one in photoshop to make it fit my MSD, and I don't know by how much I shrank it. ^_^;; I just made a ton of print outs that gradually got smaller until I found one that fit. >_>... Man, I am terribly inefficient at a lot of things, aren't I?
Waah! you are doing such good jobs! Even wigs you succeed in! I totally feel I can do this too! I never sewed anything before ;_; Gotta start doing it right away! Again, you make such cool outfits and wigs!
you know, to thin out the yarn a little, you could separate the threads? i did that to make my doll some purple dread falls for the renfest
This stuff is all so adorable, especially since you called yourself a beginning sewer. I love how you showed your progression, and you've really improved over a short amount of time. The blue arm warmers fit so well, and the hats you've made are all adorable. But, I think your latest yarn wig is my favorite. Good luck with the rest of your projects!
I love the very first t-shirt, even though it's very obviously homemade. It looks like something a mother would make for her daughter, out of love.
