    7. When I was born, my birth certificate had a different surname to my father's. The short story is - same Chinese word for surname, but it has different pronunciations in English depending on dialect/language. When I was born, my birth country had a law that I had to be given a certain English spelling for my surname - which isn't the English spelling of my dad's surname (even though it's the same Chinese word).

It caused no end of confusion and unnecessary hassle when we lived in different English-speaking countries. ("Erm, can you prove you are this child's parent? Why don't your identity documents show it?") At age 6-8, my birth country dropped this dumb law. So my parents were able to legally change my surname to match my dad's.

    21. That is so cool, I really had my heart set on splitting my tongue at one point... but I chickened out. How was your healing? The closest I got to body mods, was breast implants! Does it count? :abambi: No, huh?

My random fact is that I'm developing my own video game wheeee :cheer

My second random fact is that I can't visualize. I can think of a concept of something, but I can't create a mental image of anything or anyone, no matter how familiar I am with it. I could access a list of data I know about it, and I don't have trouble recognizing things or people I'm familiar with when I do see them. I can also be creative in my own way, but I can only make up data about things. I have to actually draw or photobash the thing based on that data to have any idea what the thing I made up could look like. Likewise, I can take in facts from a conversation, but when someone says "picture this" I say I can but I can't picture a single thing, I'm just collecting the facts for any required replay or analysis :abambi: It's like a big word soup in my head, only not really cuz I can't see any letters or other symbols... it's like an audio book soup, with the volume muted, that I've memorized.
But I can see my dreams. I can also imagine tastes, smells, sounds and emotions with good clarity. I'm just brain-blind! I honestly thought that was how everyone thinks, until very recently I'm learning that most people can really see things in their mind when they try :blush I wish I had that power because most of my hobbies are visually creative ones. I guess I came to like those hobbies so much because I can't imagine visuals, so making something is the only way I could ever see something of my own creation. Why is this new knowledge stressing me out so much lately :abambi::abambi::abambi: I wish I could go back to believing that I was on the same basic level as everyone else :thumbup

    22. It totally does count to me! It's body altering :p

My healing was ridiculously easy. It was healed within 5 days. I was also lucky I had no pain, except for the initial procedure, and I had no numbing or pain killers.

Eating and talking sucked for a week though. I couldn't move my tongue since it was so swollen, and I had to make calls and barely anyone understood me

I considered breast implants actually, but oddly enough the healing process on that kinda scared me. It looks so intense in comparison to everything else I've had done.
How long did it take for you to recover?

      • x 3
    23. Thanks for sharing your story. Wow!! You must have a high pain tolerance, and be super brave, to go through it with no sort of pain killers. :aeyepop::aeyepop::aeyepop: A week of recovery only? I guess it's true that the mouth heals quickly! And now you've got your cool split tongue!!! :D So you went to a body mod artist for it, right? When I was researching it, it seems like you can't be put under at a hospital :sweat:sweat I would be soooo scared! Did the procedure take very long? For my implants, I was under the knife for about two hours. By now, can you move the two sides of your tongue independently?

My healing process for implants is quite slow in comparison.
First week I could hardly do anything except nurse my little ice pack baby :lol:and get up for little walks to avoid blood clotting. I also had a bad reaction to my prescribed pain killers, so I couldn't continue taking them. My pain peaked around 5 days after surgery. But the ice pack helped a lot, I just had to keep it filled all the time. For the first two weeks, no lifting over 15 lb or reaching above the head. It's basically T-rex arms for that time. Oh yeah, and you have to sleep sitting upright, which was not easy :sigh But I was okayed to sleep on my side after two weeks.

The pain and swelling from surgery decreased gradually. I was well enough to fly at three weeks, but my chest still looked huge. As the surgical pain and swelling went away, then it switched over to nerve pains :ablink: Random zaps or pinching sensations that last a few seconds, and touching some spots felt like getting shocked! But most of the time felt fine. The nerve pain was gone around the 5 month mark, and those electric spots became numby spots, until the 7 or 8 month mark, then everything was back to normal sensation. Around month 4, my left implant had dropped into the correct position. My right one on the other hand... took until month 11!! Almost a year! I was so worried because it sat high and felt firmer than the other... until one evening I came out of the shower and voila, it was suddenly in place, and soft! My surgeon, of course, kept telling me that for some patients, the muscles on the side of the dominant hand take a long time to relax... He was right after all! :sweat

Now everything looks and feels right. So I guess my FULL recovery took 11 months *_* I think the average full recovery is about 6 months, but the average go-back-to-work recovery is a couple of weeks. But everyone heals at a different pace. If I had a job, I don't think I would have been working at two weeks!! I think my healing was particularly long compared to people I've talked to, or read about their experiences online... but there ended up being no complications so yay :cheer Apparently, salines tend to heal faster than silicones, and over the muscle faster than under. But of course, I got silicone unders. Although the recovery was long, I couldn't be happier with the results :dance

Fun fact about silicone implants!! Spend the day out in the summer sun, and your boobies will gather all the heat, which feels great for a swim. Spend some time out in the cold, and inside your boobies feel like cool ice packs, so nice when you come back in and huddle under a warm blanket :celebrate

    35. I was born on a Saturday, which is actually a big thing for Greeks! According to our traditions, people born on a Saturday (Sabbato) often have a closer connection to their 'sixth sense'. They are thought to be able to witness spirits and apparitions, but those, though they might hurt 'normal' people, will never ever cause them harm. It's also said that both their curses and wishes have a tendency to come true a lot more often and more strongly than others'.

    39. I love video games, but in contrast, I don’t watch a lot of movies or series at all! I think it’s because I like to be involved in the story and affect it, rather than watch it.

Some of my favourite video games include the metal gear solid series, the final fantasy series, the yakuza/ryuu ga gotoku series, omori, nier replicant, the resident evil series, the silent hill series and much more that i’ve probably forgotten :XD:

    40. I used to watch movies and TV series all the time when I was a teenager and I would get really invested in them. Then suddenly… I don’t know what happened but I just stopped watching any movies or TV series at all.
I think maybe I just started getting more interested in music instead.
I still play a lot of games though my favorite video game series of all time is the Fallout series especially the earlier ones.
